Oh man, I really liked Cricket. But of course, as a principled member of the bomb squad, she wasn't going to let someone not on the bomb squad risk their lives.

I have to say, I didn't quite understand what was going on with the COTW. Would someone like to enlighten me?

It continues next week, but it seemed like people in prison are threatening to beat up other prisoners unless their family members are willing to pay them not to do it. I am not exactly sure why they are blowing up the people who are paying them, because I don't think they had stopped paying.

I think that's where the serial killer/Trent's father comes into it. He wanted to talk to Trent but Trent wouldn't reach out.  I guess he started killing people knowing he'd eventually come to jail to prevent more deaths?  Or at least I think that's where they were going with this.

I don’t think the bombs are COTW.  It might be the overriding mystery for the first half of the season.  Why would criminals in prison blow up the cars of people that were paying them not to beat up weaker inmates?  It makes no sense.  Then we have Will Trent’s father who is a serial killer and a psychopath who may be doing it just to play with Will Trent.  But is he really involved or is there something else at play?   And then add Will’s guilt with losing Cricket someone who he actually liked who wasn’t Angie.

The whole thing has legs.  At least for a few episodes.

NOOOOOOOOO CRICKET!!!!!!! They were so sparkly together!!!! 😭

I missed this show. This was an amazing premiere, so many great lines, beginning with Luke calling Ormewood a bitch and refusing to take his orders and then later when Faith is talking to him about the car they're looking for and she describes it to him over the phone and he says 'How'd you know that, witch?' Like she literally had powers lol. Will being all up in Faith's business and that 'He is a TALL drink of water' comment. And of course the opening scene with Will in Spanish class. Was it just me, or did all the women fall in lust when he pulled out Betty?

Why am I not surprised Angie was sleeping with her doctor? And she blackmailed him into signing her return to work? Still don't think you're ready for that physical, Ange.

So do we think Nico called Amanda to Will's house at the end, or she just showed up? Either way, Will's little family of misfit toys is my favorite thing.

Next week....... 😬

Not just you. Will knows that Betty is magic. Plus I like how he said she was his family. I'm so happy this show is back.

I'm still upset they killed Cricket. She was awesome, and she and Will together were awesome. And even with its hardships and sad backstory, this show was fundamentally happy and did not let itself turn into an angstfest or a show where they beat up the main character just for kicks. I don't need to see Our Hero destroyed by guilt, loneliness, or any other kind of pain. I don't need to see a healthy, happy, empowered, available, awesome character show up for one episode and then be blown to bits. Fuck this emo bullshit. I really don't like that they did that.

I would normally make a terrible "this season started out with a bang" joke, but that feels like its in poor taste considering poor Cricket. Damn it, I liked her so much and she and Will were so cute, so of course she has to die. Will's been through a lot lately (and in general) cant he have something nice?

Looks like the bomb plot will be more than just a case of the week, especially now that its personal. Wasn't expecting to see Clark Gregg here but he did a good job as always, and the whole prison hostage scheme is interesting. So why the bombs if the relatives were going to pay? Were both the almost bomb victims late on their payments? Then why not kill their relatives in jail? Should be interesting going forward.

Ormewood has a lot of nerve getting upset about his wife having an affair and basically stalking her considering his own affairs. No wonder his son is mad at him, and while I don't condone anyone having affairs, two wrongs don't make a right, I can get why his wife might find finding "company" with someone else appealing.

At least the cats are alright, and Betty continues to be the cutest cutie. That opener was adorable, I about melted along with everyone in that class.

My thought was the relatives were told not to discuss with anyone and Clark Gregg said he was approached by the other lady at the bank the prior week.  Maybe they were concerned she had gone to the police and they were trying to eliminate all of the witnesses outside of prison.  If they left the families alone and killed the prisons, then there was no reason for the families not to go to the police at that point.  I don't think it had anything to do with being late on payments.  The other almost victims were people the lady had also reached out to.

They are blowing up family members who they think went to the authorities or are likely to try to stop the extortion scheme.

I think Will's potential biological father is a possible source of information, not the mastermind of the entire extortion scheme.

I think I may stick with the show even though it's a little darker in tone than I usually like.

Almost forgot - I'm calling an audible on Clark Gregg's character. There was something weird about that prison video call with his 'son' and the way they were talking to each other, and while they did go ahead and blow up Cricket, I feel Gregg's character has something nefarious up his sleeve and he may be the mastermind behind it all.  I know, Will figured out he was supposed to be the original target but his character is making my hairs stand up so there you go.

The car scene with the other woman and Will and Cricket was nicely done too. Loved Will tryna put her at ease by saying he peed his pants too and they're all just sitting in their warm urine lol.

And Faith....girl, go one and get yours. I ain't mad at her lol.

Betty and Will riding in the car was the cutest thing ever!  I loved Will and Angie's swimming scene.  French cuffs, LOL.

Killing Cricket was the worst thing ever!  Bad show, bad.  Maybe Will and Angie are endgame, but they're not ready for that, so why kill a great character.

This is such a great show, otherwise.  So glad it's back.  Lots of great comments above.  There's more commentary traffic on this show than others, so that indicates to me that people are drawn into it.

Agreed to all.  Especially to Will's line about being warm & comfortable (I'll need to re-watch to get his precise dialogue).  And having Cricket (RIP, we hardly knew ye!) say right after that: "Hello I'm Cricket, your bomb tech; I'll be disarming your bomb today" made that whole scene fantastic.

Geez writers, you can traumatize Will all you want but you don’t have to kill Cricket. They have sizzling chemistry. Angie who?

“Am trying to set the stage for you to ask me out, Will.”

😂😂😂

Why doesn’t GBI provide appropriate bomb tech's suit for Cricket to perform her job? She doesn’t wear one every time she dismantles a bomb. No SOP in place?

Ormewood’s wife is cheating on him. Dude, it’s karma!

The adorable Betty in her colorful knitted sweater. I truly miss this little nugget! 💙

I see Will and Angie as each other's third or fourth chocolate covered marshmallow. You know it's a bad idea, but you do it anyway. I think the two of them can be friends with benefits and source of support or comfort, but there is no way the two of them are headed for a long term stable relationship with each other.

OH, I see it differently.   They are linked for life!  So devoted.  They need a lot of healing.  We'll see . . .

I wonder if Clark Gregg is this year’s Mark Paul Gossler or Greg German nd will be on more episodes?   He is a recognizable actor in a relatively small role.

Will and Angie are a toxic pairing and Will deserves better. I can't see them as endgame.

Payback, thy name is Gina Ormewood. Reap what you sow, dude.

I thought Ulster died at the end of last season when he drank a poisoned drink, or am I due for a rewatch of that ep? I'm liking the recurring side characters like Clark Gregg, Greg Germann, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

RIP Cricket!

Yea, I feel similar. Or I thought maybe his son was actually behind it. In any case, there's certainly more to it than 'random prison gang extorts loved ones and then kills them because they might talk.'

I agree. I like the Will/Angie relationship and I do think they'll be endgame tbh.

Did we meet this man that Faith is hooking up with last season? I don't remember him at all. I like him. I kinda wanted to see her with that doctor though.

No, we haven't seen the new guy before. I wanted to see her with Dr. Farhad, too. I think I'm going to carry a grudge about not seeing more of him for as long as this show is on the air. 🤷🏾 Probably the same amount of time I'll be pissed about them killing Cricket.

Even if they intend to put Will and Angie together as endgame, they could have let Cricket live. Maybe she eventually transfers to another location or leaves for some other reason. Killing her was just gratuitous and punishing to give Will the misery.

Cricket was a great character, and I thought it was a bad move to kill her off. She could have been recurring for future story lines. The strength of this show lies in the characters and the actors. The writing is OK, but not top notch.

I will always think of Sonja Sohn as Detective Kima Greggs from The Wire. I love that she gets to shine in this role and always looks fabulous!

I thought for certain they were setting up Cricket for a long term arc. So, in that sense, we’ll played, show. Even though I liked the character, I like it more when shows do the unexpected.

How could anyone possibly not care about Betty???

I missed this show!

Shocked they killed Cricket. Sad too. I thought she would have been fun with Trent. Please do not turn Trent into Benson. Misery porn is the worst.

I see Angie is still riding the Hot Mess Express. That said, I do like the character and I like her and Trent, though I don’t need them together romantically. I would be good with platonic vibes.

Putting a tracker on the wife’s car is in very poor taste. Especially given the history there. I do hope he and his wife work it out cause I hate him and Angie and do not want to watch him be single.

So Faith and Hot Doc did not work out? Pity. Wished we hadn’t missed the meet cute on this one.

I hope Mark Paul is returning. He was an unexpected highlight for me in the first season.

I'd like a Mark Paul appearance this season.

Bummed about Faith and Hot Doc not dating.

I wonder if we will get Sara in the future. Angie needs to be single and work on herself.

I think they have a strong bond that no one else will ever be able to understand and they are absolutely devoted to each other. I do not see that translating into a long term romantic relationship.

This is exactly the way I feel about them, or possibly friends with benefits if they are both single and not seeing anyone else romantically.

Who says they're not? They could be dating but not exclusive. Faith deserves ALL the options.

Maybe Cricket is an identical twin? And her sister will show up to get answers from Will and he'll see her and think he's hallucinating?? I know, I know but I just can't quit Susan Kelechi Watson yet, DAMN YOU, SHOW!!!!!! 😭

I was thinking Cricket might  show up to be one of the ghosts in Will’s head that pop up from time to time until he solves the mystery.  His way of keeping her alive until he figures out who killed her.

Definitely don't read any of the book series.

I can't stand Angie, she nothing but a user.

And as cute as it is for betty to be riding unrestrained in an open-top car, that is incredibly dangerous.  One slam on the brakes and she's toast.  I hate when they show that ridiculous shit.

1 episode in and I'm pissed at everybody already.

Mark Paul has his own show now, so I don’t think we will get to see him.  I weep many, many bitter tears over this because I really thought he added a lot to the show.  And I liked his childhood connection to Will and Angie.

Cricket was too cool to live.  Obviously they had to give Will a personal reason to want to bring the bad guys down.  Like everyone else, I hope this doesn’t mean Will will become a tortured monk and never have a girlfriend again.

I thought Cricket was going to be a replacement for Sara Linton, just to change things up from the book.  Sadly that was not meant to be.  I thought she and Will had really good chemistry.

Why does everyone talk so fast?  Especially Sonia Sohn, she flies across her scenes and you can barely understand what she is saying.  I get that her character is intense, but Sonia takes it way too far, IMO.

I don't normally talk back to the TV - especially when my husband is doing something else in the room. But as soon as she was running, I said "oh, no don't do that, show!" and a moment's relief when she slammed the door shut, and then the horrible explosion. At that point I yelled a bunch of expletives. That amount of emotion is unusual for me.

She was so great, and they  had amazing chemistry - not tortured soul chemistry. I really wanted her to be part of the show, because she just shines on camera, whatever she's in. I'm really ticked, and my husband is a little amused I was so vocal.

As for Ormwood, whatever he was in the past, that scene with his wife was really moving on both parts - well acted.

Will and Angie are most likely endgame.   Season 1 was there in large part to highlight why they were bad for each other.   I already see this season is going to be more why they have stayed friends all these years.   You saw it in the pool scene.    They know each other.   And when Will told Angie he wanted to date Cricket she acted rather adult about it.   These are two people who have been down a long road together.

Super bummed about Cricket.  I liked her no-nonsense manner and sense of humor.  It would have been really fun seeing how she and Will might have meshed. Oh well.

The Will and Faith partnership is still great.  I loved them tsk tsking over how dumb the main target was while he was eating his food at a diner.

I dunno. I still see Angie as a person making a lot of bad decisions.  Sure, fine, have a taboo sexual relationship with your doctor, but to blackmail him into clearing you against your own best interest tells me she still has not learned.

As much as I respect their history, Angie is still too volatile, imo.

I suspect that Angie is not the only woman Ormewood has cheated with, so his being all worried about being cheated on was some great irony.  I love that his wife was like... 'Yeah, about that... ' Heh.

So glad this show is back!

I did not realize how much I had missed this show until I was able to see S2/Ep1 last evening! Very sorry about Cricket but she went out doing what she chose and did so well...and no, I don't see this as adding to Will's angst quotient because he already has plenty of motivation (the right kind: a thirst for truth and justice). The cast is all so good. Beyond happy this got renewed.

I saw a similar comment about fast talking on the Abbott Elementary forum. I honestly wonder if it's because the networks keep making commercial breaks longer, so there's less time for the actual episode to play out.

I do think if they wanted full misery for Will, Cricket would have been killed off in the mid season finale instead. After Will had really started to fall in love.

I also thought it strange that they would introduce Cricket, then kill her off.

I loved the Spanish class. I hope we get to see more scenes there.

I think they have filmed at least six episodes. I saw something from Erika Christensen saying that she had six done. By the way, I like the new look for Erika / Angie.

I dunno. I don't get OTP vibes from Will/Angie. For me, Angie is too self destructive, and her sobriety is extremely fragile. It doesn't appear she's actually doing any of the work she needs to do for recovery, otherwise she wouldn't be sleeping with her doctor and then blackmailing him to go back to work. She told Will in the pool she had to go back to work or she was gonna start using again. Will has enough of his own damage to work through without the added burden of Angie's shit as well. Like Cricket told him, he deserves good things. Angie is not one of those good things. I also don't think she cares nearly as much about him as he does about her. It's been shown he's pretty much been in love with her since they met at the group home, but I've never gotten the sense that she feels as deeply about him as he does about her. I'm not even sure if she's capable of the kind of love Will needs. And I sure the fuck don't want him waiting around to find out if she is.
