Thursdays when Top Chef is on, I don't watch the regular show, just read the archive, so tonight the Masters games would have been my only J! of the day and I might enjoy it even more.  So, of course, it's not on.

Sam's "Huh" when a guess turns out to be correct is fun, as is anyone playing with him saying "Bring it" if they're the one to select the final clue.  I also liked James's "No more French".

I just adore Sam. I was wondering if he had NY roots when he mentioned having tickets  to the 1986 Mets World Series, but couldn't find any evidence of that.

I also chuckled when James said "No more French", as I'm sure I'd botch the pronunciation too.

I looked up that French pastry: "The classic Napoleon Dessert (mille-feuille)...I had NO idea that is what it's called. We've always just called it a Napoleon. Even in the bakery shops here, that's what it's called.

Anyone know why game 5 is up on the archive but not game 6?

There often seems to be a lag with getting the primetime games up there. I don't know what's involved in getting the info, but I assume they can't do it until the game airs (sometimes I go too early to get the regular game categories and it's only partially there, so I'm guessing they don't do it until it starts airing somewhere). I wonder if they prioritize getting the regular games up first..

The regular games air pretty early in some markets so I think they have time and a procedure for getting them up efficiently. As far as I know the Masters doesn't air any earlier than 8pm ET so the window is different and volunteer resources may be stretched thin.

Yeah, but Masters games 5 and 6 aired half an hour apart Wednesday night and game 5 has been up for at least a day now (I think) and game 6 still isn't available.

As for the regular games - does it air anywhere any earlier than 3:30 p.m. CT? That's when it airs in Chicago and I think that I've seen the games posted before it airs here. I know that it's available right after it airs here because I usually go to the archive a little after 4 p.m. to confirm my correct "questions" and TSs.

According to this, in a few areas it airs as early as 11am local time (two in Texas and one in Tennessee are before noon).

Yikes - I thought I remembered that it airs earlier in some areas, but that's early.

FYI - just looked and today's game is up on the J archive, about 2 hours before it airs here in Chicago. Didn't look at the board or the FJ clue because I don't want to be spoiled, but saw that the category for FJ was different than yesterday's - many more words than History. Still no Masters game 6 though.

I just enjoy this group of six so much as excellent game players and amusing personalities. And they have such a good rapport with each other.

That was a lot of fun. I was rooting for Matt as the underdog so I was disappointed to see him in the red but it warmed my heart to see James go over to him before Final.

I laughed at the clip of Amy telling James that playing against him was the culmination of a nightmare. I was also amused that James' villainous anecdote today was about how much he likes bridge.

I hope to see Amy and Sam win at least one game and James to lose at least one more before we get to eliminations.

Amy and Mattea both losing in one night added to my frustrating day induced crankiness, especially that Andrew and James won those games.  If Amy doesn't make it into the semi-finals, I'm going to be annoyed.

My power was out for a bit and didn't come back on until the interview segment of the first game.  So I don't know how I did in the first round, but I did okay in DJ.  The TS I got there were Cozumel and Christian Siriano.  When his name spilled out of my mouth upon seeing his picture, I had no idea whence it came!  He came to my attention when he was the only designer who offered to make Leslie Jones a dress for something, but I am stunned his name and face stayed in my mind.

I did okay in the second game as well.  My TS were whistleblower, Pound Puppies, and Anne Rice (I had no idea she wrote a book of that title, but she sprang to mind based on the text of the clue).

James's laugh when he beat Mattea to the buzzer on a couple of Canadian clues was funny.

I enjoyed watching both games although I didn't get either FJ and the outcomes were not to my liking.

Was nautilus an answer in both games?  I answered that in Game 1 but missed hearing if I was correct or not and I know it was an answer in Game 2.

This business of showing where the DDs are is almost embarrassing because it is so unimportant.

For the record, I based the "total correct is tie-breaker" based on Ken's comments at the end of the first day. Since then, the tie-breaker hasn't been mentioned until yesterday's (Friday) show. The tie-breaker is "number of games won", which is why Matt is in fourth place with Amy in fifth, even though they both have 3 Tournament Points (Matt has won a game while Amy has not).

This is from The Jeopardy Fan site:

Quote

Jeopardy! Masters is a three-stage event; the first 7 episodes will be the quarterfinal stage; the next 2 are the semi-final stage, and the 10th episode is a 2-game total-point affair final.

In the quarterfinal stage, the two game winners from the previous episode will play in the second game of the following episode, along with a third player randomly drawn (with any potential rematches avoided)—the other three players would then play in that episode’s first game. In every game in the quarterfinals, 3 points are awarded for a win, 1 point for second, and 0 points for third place. The six players are then ranked by points, then wins, then total number of correct responses, total Coryat Score, and then total overall score excluding Final Jeopardy! The top four players advance to the semifinals.

Everything is then reset to zero for the semifinals. In the semifinals, the 4 players will face each other—in combinations of 3 players. Points are tracked similarly to the quarterfinals, with the top 3 players qualifying for a two-day total-point final in Episode 10.

For the overall event, the winner will receive $500,000 + the Trebek Trophy, $250,000 for second, $150,000 for third, $100,000 for fourth, $75,000 for fifth, and $50,000 for sixth.

One further wrinkle that affects the at-home viewing experience. At the start of every round, Ken will tell the home audience where the Daily Doubles are located.

So this answers another question I had - does it matter how much they "earn" after FJ, or does  it just matter that they win/come in second?  Sounds like it's the latter.

Gotta say it: I had a deja-vu moment in one game.

Back in the day I was on Jeopardy, up against a formidable returning champion named only "H." Well, there was one answer neither he nor the other contestant rang in on; I couldn't believe my opportunity, plus I thought I knew it! But a wrong answer would have plunged me into negative territory, thus I, too,  refrained from buzzing in.

But I had it right then, so I had it right when I saw pretty much the same clue on the board! And the correct question was:

"What is Curacao?"

(I didn't dream all this, did I? Because  I can't find it again!)

Was it from this game in July 2015?

No; my game is unavailable on the Internet. It was televised in 1992 (not divulging more, sorry!).

I thought it was too easy but there was a clue mentioning curaçao and the returning champion was H.B. so thought I should check.

Does anyone else here watch HBO's Somebody Somewhere? If so, you know exactly where my mind went when I heard Andrew's "Minnesota sushi" story!

What is a Coryat score?

a player's score if all wagering is disregarded. In the Coryat score, there is no penalty for forced incorrect responses on Daily Doubles, but correct responses on Daily Doubles earn only the natural values of the clues, and any gain or loss from the Final Jeopardy! Round is ignored.

(from the J! Archive help page)

So basically the value of a player's correct responses minus the value of all their incorrect responses.

I had thought a Coryat score was some universally known mathematical formula, but apparently it’s named after the Jeopardy! champion who invented it:

Clearly you— and Andrew, and Sam, and Amy— are not Project Runway fans. Christian was an early season winner, and is easily the show’s most successful alumnus.

I’m not sure I’m loving the actual games all that much (it’s a little been there/ done that with this bunch), but I am really enjoying the banter. This appears to be quite the close knit group, and their good-natured rivalry is fun to witness.

Next time, I want to see the contestants face the giant wall of clues they use in the intro. Make them stand there until the entire thing is cleared, no matter how long it takes.

Nope, never seen a minute of it.  I hadn't ever heard of him until, as I said, the Leslie Jones story, and I cannot believe his name/face combination stuck in my mind from that so I could several years later unexpectedly get correct a clue that stumped three masters.

I appreciate your looking, because, though I have my ancient VHS tape, haha, it would be cool to see it on the Internet! Man, this show loves Curacao!

But speaking of taping, my TIVO now goes far enough to record up to and including the Finale, so....

BRING IT!

I'm not, either, but I can name two designers named Christian, Dior and Siriano, and just from the picture clearly he was not Dior.

I don't know much about any designers but the name I couldn't get past was Lacroix.

I finally caught up!  I am enjoying the banter between Ken and the contestants, although James is as insufferable as always.  I did appreciate that he went over to Matt at the end, but there's just something about him that bugs me.

I, too, am rooting for Amy and the Professor.

You could try joining JBoard.tv (specifically for this thread) for help getting your game into J-Archive. They might be able to help with digitizing it first, too, I don't know. I was able to use my local library to convert a VHS of old family footage into a .mp4 file.

I just saw that stupid "heart like a truck" commercial, which reminded me that I got that TS.  No idea which game (or even which night) it was, though, and I got it entirely because of that stupid commercial.

All Masters games are now up on the J! Archive. Although considering how I did on Friday - my worst showing to date - I was better off not knowing for sure how I did. 😜

Weird J round in the first game on Friday. Got 4 right in 3 categories - "Present Company Accepted M", "Johnny Gilbert's Musical Theater Audition" and "The Suffering of Jesus" (didn't hurt that Easter wasn't that long ago). Yay me. Of course then i spoiled that by only getting 1 right in the other 3 categories. Boo hiss. Did get 1 TS - Cartier - I credit Antiques Roadshow for that. Didn't do as well in DJ, although I did get the TS of Cozumel - courtesy of a cruise I was on a few years ago.

Second game was not as good as the first. Got 4 right in "Classic Movies" and the TS of whistleblower, but that's it. And I got FJ - 12 miles in circumference didn't seem very big which led to little which got me to Lilliput.

I am rooting for Sam and Amy, but right now Sam is in last place and Amy is second to last in total points.  Therefore, Andrew and Mattea have the best chances of making it to the semi-finals at the current time.  James is just killing it, especially with the number of correct responses (he has 103 correct compared to Andrew at 79 correct and Mattea at 63 correct !!)  I don't know what is happening with Matt.  He doesn't seem as quick and knowledgeable as he did in prior tournaments.  I hope the semi-finals and finals are exciting because I really don't want this tournament to become a James H. landslide victory.

Didn't necessarily do that well in tonight's games - will have to check the archive to see. But I was 3 for 3 in FJ today! Got Rolling Stone (too easy) in the regular game and Ambassador to the United Nations and (Lemonade) Lucy Hayes. Yay me.

I was 2/3. UN Ambassador was a lucky guess but I didn't know Lucy Hayes.
