Interview with Grammer, and some details…as well as a new cast member/character:

Casting Grammer's real-life daughter as Roz's daughter, Alice, makes me wonder if they're considering a reveal of Frasier being Alice's real father.

  Quote

…In Season 2, Roz is contemplating leaving Seattle and we get to meet her daughter, played by Grammer’s own daughter, Greer. (Here’s the character description: “Now in her late twenties, friendly, outgoing Alice has inherited more than some of her mother Roz’s free-spirited ways. Having just moved to Providence to study architecture, Alice is eager to catch up with Frasier’s son Freddy—and complicate whatever romantic plans he may have.”)…

Meh.

Patricia Heaton Joins ‘Frasier’, Reuniting With Kelsey Grammer

"she will play Holly who is down-to-earth, unpretentious, and openly mocking of overly-intellectual types. A Boston native who tends bar at upscale restaurants and events, Holly is extraordinarily comfortable with both who and where she is in life, a quality that the always-climbing, always-reaching Frasier (Grammer) finds as alien as he does attractive."

While she sounds like the opposite of Diane...having him get involved with another Boston barmaid?

So Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer worked together on Back To You; then Kelsey's daughter, Greer Grammer had a recurring role on Patricia's show (The Middle); and now they're all going to be on Frasier. Am I missing any more connections?

Ooh!  Ooh!  I have one!  She had a one-season series where she went back to school to become a doctor (Carol’s Second Act - I had to look it up) and he was in the last episode as her ex.

Apparently he has a type?

He was such a great supporting character. "Romping with my school chums..."

My other favorite Gil moment was in the episode with the good looking Clint Webber.

  Quote

Gil: I must confess, I didn't notice he was all that handsome.

Roz: You didn't notice? You of all people?

Gil: Just what are you insinuating?

Roz: Well, you know, you're a little... er....

Gil: For your information, I happen to be a happily married man.

Frasier: You're... married?

Bulldog: To a woman?

Gil: Of course to a woman! You've all heard me mention Deb. Well, how often have I said, "I must be running along now, Deb will be waiting."

Roz: We thought Deb was your cat.

Gil: She is not a cat! She is Mrs. Gilbert Leslie Chesterton, a Sarah Lawrence graduate, and the owner of a very successful auto body repair shop. Honestly, the conclusions people make, just because a man dresses well and knows how to use a pastry bag!

I absolutely LOVE the way he delivers the line "She is not a cat" 🤣

"I'm the ice cream man..."

Now, did he start it, “Hi-ho, I’m the ice cream man ... ?"

(Or did Niles say that as one of the characters in his classic bursting-the-balloons rant?  Either way, I just love it when they threw in these random British-sounding expressions, even for the non-British characters.)

I know it's not exactly appointment TV anymore, and I'm not invested enough to start new threads, but new season 2 episode(s?) are up on P+ now.

FWIW, there are new threads for 2.1 and 2.2:

So far, the plots are not my thing.

What do we think the chances of renewal are? While the episodes have improved slightly I don’t see this on any streaming charts and doesn’t that normally dictate renewal?

Does Paramount+ have a Top 10 streaming chart for its service like Netflix and Amazon Prime do?  That's the only Top 10 that will truly give an indication about how this is performing.

For the other independent charts like Nielson, Paramount+ shows won't compete because it's not big enough.  Netflix usually dominates those charts with a Amazon Prime or massive Peacock hit thrown in every now and then.

It’s number six on the paramount app. Two spots behind OG Frasier. It’s hard to tell though if that matters as there’s barely any original or new content on the paramount app.

Darn, I liked it.  Maybe Prime will pick it up.

If they do they'll probably cancel it after a season or two as well. Streamers don't seem to invest much into growing the audience for their shows. Kelsey Grammer's salary for a 22 minute show probably rivals some of what they're spending on their hour-long fantasy shows.

ETA: I'm going to miss the Christmas episodes; they were a hoot.

There's a gossip site that claims that Grammer is having trouble remembering his lines now, and filming takes longer because of it. It may or may not be true.

That's interesting. In case you haven't heard, the show has recently been canceled.

^^^From an episode thread…

I’ve heard a recent interview with him on the Bullseye podcast and he seemed pretty sharp. And within the last year or so, another podcaster I follow, who was a fan of the show & the character but hadn’t seemed especially impressed with him as a person, actually met him and seemed to come away a fan. He apparently can turn on the charm!
