Milestone Moments: All The Celebrity Vitals

While I was a fan of Val, I really became a fan after seeing his documentary that is a reflection by Val on his life. It’s amazing!  I can’t say enough good things about it.  Just incredible. I’ve seen it at least twice and will definitely watch it again this weekend.  It’s narrated by his son, but with his words.  Lots of actual footage from his personal vault of other stars he was friends and colleagues with.  If you have time, I’d check it out.

RIP, Mr. Kilmer.

By the by, I thought Iceman was the real hero of Top Gun.

You are not alone in this thought.

The hero and so damn sexy.

Tom who?

But I will always, always remember this moment. When Val's Doc Holiday stepped out of the shadows to surprise Johnny Ringo.

Absolutely iconic.

RIP, Val.

Val Kilmer showed up on the small screen too. He was in episodes of Psych and Numb3rs.

I remember his one scene in Psych's series finale! Shawn always talked about his love for Val Kilmer and both he and the show's creator were so happy when they were able to get Kilmer to play the always offscreen detective.

*sniff*

He suffered for so long, and was gossiped abt so much before he made his throat cancer diagnosis public, that he deserves and probably needs his rest.

Yes. All of this.

I will always be awed by his portrayal of Jim Morrison

Val Kilmer *was* Jim Morrison in that role.

Always loved Val. Saw an article or a post refer to him as having the looks of a leading man and the soul of a character actor. And that's so true. He was great in everything. As so many others have said, my favorite performance from him is Tombstone, which is also my favorite movie. He was so charming and funny while also being so poignant and convincingly dangerous.

Love the scene where he mocks Johnny Ringo and even manages to make Ringo's buddy Curly Bill (the late great Powers Boothe) crack a smile. LOL

I loved Val Kilmer in everything I saw him in, especially some of his early work.  "Real Genius" is an underrated gem.

Rest well, Madmartigan.

Absolutely. His comic timing is what made that film and it will always be a favorite of mine.  I've been looking at remarks about Val Kilmer on many different forums and very few people have mentioned Real Genius, so yes, it's definitely underrated.

I don't think any of Val's more comedic work is underrated per se. I find that when people pass and others want to memorialize them, they tend to focus more on either the more high brow artistic offerings or the biggest box office hits. So, they talk about Val's work in Tombstone, Top Gun, and The Doors with maybe a reference to Willow instead of the rest of Val's filmography. It's like they are competing to be the best film snob on the internet.

Wow, this one surprised me. He was so great in so many great movies but my favorite will always be Doc Holliday in Tombstone. Such a great movie. He was perfect for the role. So funny and the best friend to have.

It's truly the last great, iconic Western role, and it was when the genre had pretty much petered out.  Many other actors have played the character but Kilmer really made it his own and became the definitive Doc Holliday.

Jay North, who played Dennis the Menace on tv, dead at 73.

Mr. North didn't have an easy life as a child performer. However,  even during those tough times, he had friends. Including Jeannie Russell who played Dennis's nemesis Margaret who not only was his friend during that time but the two would STAY friends the rest of Mr. North's life and, in fact, she was the one who made the announcement of his passing, calling him her 'brother'!

RIP, Mr. North.
