I liked Neil too but HATED the romance angle.  They should have just dropped that rather than the character.

Aside from character deaths like Selma and Flo the original never acknowledged Lana or other characters leaving.  They might not acknowledge Neil leaving.

I think they're writing him out so we don't have the love triangle anymore. They do need to do more comedy and less drama.

I'M SO RELIEVED!!!!! I really grew to love this show, for all of its faults, even as a huge fan of the original. Now all I need is ABC to renew NOT DEAD YET and my doses of fizzy effervescence for the week will be just fine.

Well, I’m only watching the show for nostalgias sake and there really isn’t any. I think it is pretty bad and it makes me furious that this was renewed for season 3 when the wonderful, funny, entertaining, great acting “So Help Me Todd” was canceled!

I have only watched a few shows because I love Dan so much, but it is so bad to me! I keep up on this forum to see if any episodes seem like ones I would want to watch, like the one with the Weavers.

Looks like the new version of Night Court has inherited the OG's revolving door of characters - according to TVLine, India de Beaufort is not returning as Olivia in Season 3.

That is really disappointing. After Dan, I thought Olivia was the most entertaining character on the show.

Interestingly enough, India was a replacement for another actress after the original pilot.

I will agree with one thing I read elsewhere. Olivia wasn't much of a sparring partner for Dan as they were both jaded characters. I suspect they'll go with another younger actress like India but an older actress whose character has been around a long time like Dan would be intriguing.

At least in the original show’s defense part of the reason for the revolving door was due to actor deaths and one of the actors (Markie Post) not being available initially.  This version seems to have actors that just don’t want to stay. Although IMO Neil was not a loss.  Olivia was growing on me.

Actors leaving the show has me concerned about it going beyond Season 3.

Watching the reruns to see if the show has improved.

I made 15 minutes before switching to something else.

The judge and the prosecutor talk so fast their lines are hard to understand.

Maybe that's a blessing as the lines don't seem to be funny and the deliveries are awful.

How did this mess get renewed?

New season premieres Tuesday November 19 at 8:30pm ET. Seems kind of a late premiere, but that’s likely due to the Tuesday edition of The Voice being at 8pm for awhile

I am so excited about this! Yes, her character is crazy, but hopefully they'll dial that down a bit (and keep her edge). She and John Larroquette are awesome together, and in a whole other league of comedy actors (I would go so far as to say comedy treasures).

I have found myself torn on Olivia and unable to articulate why.  I was sad when it was announced she was leaving but I also understood why they got rid of her. 

Her delivery was like she was trying to emulate an old-timey movie, like His Girl Friday.  It didn't seamlessly fit in with the tone of the show nor do I think she pulled it off very well.  (Amy Yasbeck did a similar delivery in the TV show Wings once upon a time and she was able to pull it off, IMO.) 

However, if you were to ask me which original cast member had the best chemistry with others in the cast, I'd probably say Olivia.  I think she and Dan had a great dynamic.  Olivia and Gurgs were a fun duo.  I even think she had more romantic chemistry potential with Neil and Wyatt.  For that reason, I was a little bummed she was going to be replaced.

That said. Wendie Malik is a legend. She definitely made the writing shine last season (although I didn't remember she was a lawyer.)  I can't fault them for this decision.

Did not expect it. It might not make any sense hoe she is now a prosecutor but it's Night Court. Malick is great as is her chemistry with Dan. Should be a lot of fun.

Larroquette needs someone from his own era to play against so this is a good move. Now they need to bring back Linda the records clerk.

I was sorry to hear that Olivia was leaving but now that I know they're replacing her with Wendie Malick I totally get it and approve. I'm still sad, but approve nonetheless. I always felt like Olivia's character wasn't integrated enough into the cast or the show itself.

I only watched a couple of episodes at most of this show, but I will be tuning in to see if Wendie Malick's magic can make it worth my while.

I am rescinding my disdain for this show because Malick and Larroquette together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm hoping the writing does them justice.
