Kanye West: The Most Intelligent Celebrity

Discussion of Kanye's run for the US Presidency is off-limits here, unless and until the run appears on the show itself, as per our Politics Policy. https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/94644-politics-primetimer-updated-070319

Painting or not... I am curious if there are legal grounds for a lawsuit.

If the painting/photo is meant to be a parody, I don't think a lawsuit would succeed. Parodies of public figures are allowed.

But if Chief Asshat Kayne is claiming that these are real photos and that each of the public figures gave him permission to use their photos, yep, he could be crushed by lawsuits.

Kayne is lying like a mouldy rug, and is just doing something outrageous to get publicity for his album. None of those people, with the possible exceptions of Kim and Caitlyn, would have willingly posed for that photo. I think Kayne's team created the photo from a combination of Photoshop (putting celebrity heads on other people's bodies, a trick commonly used in the porn industry) and painting.

according to TMZ, (who is on the Kardashian payroll) he is claiming the people in the video are real, (or gave permission)

"Kanye West just blew the minds of thousands of people at The Forum in Inglewood, and he's about to blow yours with these images of naked people in the same bed ... and he insists it's the real deal"  this is taken from Tmz today... which indicates that he is claiming these are the real people in the video. Since he is claiming they are real, isn't he open to a lawsuit for using the real likeness of a celebrity?

I can believe its a painting more than wax figures because wax figures that detailed would cost an insane amount of money.  Even one cost a small fortune to make much less all those people. Its really eerie though how realistic it does look though which makes it even more creepy and disturbing. This is the actual painting that its supposed to model

http://blogs.artinfo.com/artintheair/2016/06/25/kanye-wests-new-video-inspired-by-vincent-desiderios-sleep/

I think it's a combination of real people recreating the painting and also having some kind of fancy CGI to superimpose the faces. Kim and Kanye's faces may be real but he wishes he was that buff and her ass may be fake too.

People maybe real, but are they really who they want us to think they are?

I doubt Taylor Swift is going to  pose like that for Kanye and Kim, she's too careful of her image.

  • Love 7

I saw the video and I dont believe for a minute they are all real. Maybe Caitlyn, Kim and Kanye but the others? No way.  When people said it was a painting they meant the way the scenes are shot they could easily be shots of a painting. And Kanye is painting himself into a corner by saying they are real when they aren't.  Since Donald Trumps rep already said that isnt him, Kanye's claims could bite him in the ass. And George Bush and Anna Wintour were going to willingly pose like that for him? Please.

I personally think there is but I could be wrong. When Kim sued Old Navy her reasoning was that they were using someone that looked like her to make people believe she was affiliated with Old Navy when in actuality she wasn't. At the time Kim was being called bitter because the girl Old Navy was using was dating Reggie Bush at the time.  But when all was said and done she did end up Old Navy settled with her and she got a lot of money out of them. I view what Kanye is doing here as something very similar. He's using images of these people/look-alikes and he's giving people the impression they are affiliated with this.

His tweet daring people to sue him begs the question of why there would be lawsuits if they were all willing participants. If they posed and agreed to be taped/photographed, why would suing even be an option he's bringing up? Even if they just posed nude, he could do whatever he wants with that picture.

I'm sorry, but you've just really confused the hell out of me. How could you possibly think those celebrities were willing participants?

Those are either look-alikes or manikins of some type. If there are real people there, there's no issue of consent, because of course he got it from THOSE people, the doubles, but that's not the only basis for a lawsuit, because the people being referenced will have other basis for lawsuits. You can be defamed or misrepresented without being present.

If this is a true artistic statement that part of the law might back King Kanye up. There's likely no direct profit motive here, so he's got that going for him, but somewhere in the middle there's a line between art and exploitation of people that he may have crossed here.

No, I was trying to point out if they were willing participants like he's claiming, there wouldn't even be a question of them suing! LOL! He's been saying they are all the real celebrity and if that was true, why would he even think they would sue? Let's pretend for a second he got them all to pose nude, even individually, if that was true, he could photoshop all the pictures together or edit a video to make it look like his released video.

What reason would RayJ have to cooperate with Kanye? And what part of his artistic genius would make him think that arranging the participants in an order that puts Ray so close to Kim that it can only be a reminder of that video, is that uncaring and unfeeling or is it passive aggressive resentment of that same video.

I can't imagine any man who truly loves his wife that would even think of such an idea. Sad that she'll support him and his unrecognized genius instead of seeing it for what it is. Disrespectful.

Artistic statement, my foot!  I just found an article showing the painting Kayne COPIED to "create" his photo montage.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/06/25/kanye-west-s-famous-video-boasts-bizarre-orgy-with-donald-trump-and-taylor-swift.html

The Daily Beast, June 25, 2016, "Kanye West’s ‘Famous’ Video Boasts Bizarre Orgy with Donald Trump and Taylor Swift"

The article says: "West has been characteristically coy about exactly how he pulled off the video’s visual stunt, and whether any of the nude bodies in it are real, though it appears that most are hyper-realistic wax figures like the ones you might find at Madame Tussaud’s. It takes as its direct inspiration the 2008 painting “Sleep” by Vincent Desiderio."  They have a picture of the Desiderio painting next to Kayne's picture. You can immediately see how closely Kayne copied Desiderio. The loudmouthed little nutjob couldn't even do anything original.

The best part about this is no one seems to care. There hasn't been a mad, frantic response from the various celebrities' PR teams and the latest Daily Fail article has only generated a couple hundred comments. Even when Kim released a new pic of Saint Elsewhere she still couldn't wrangle the spotlight away from Taylor Swift and Loki. Kanye's latest stunt will be forgotten about in a day or two and he'll be back doing the ho stroll with Kim through various airports. You know you're slipping when you're so unimportant that A-listers can't be bothered with legal action.

That's equally as true of any of them in that photo except Caitlyn. Anna Wintour is the only other one who even pretends to be their friend, and not very vigorously.

Frankly there's no debate here. A former President, a current nominee, two contenders for the biggest female pop star of the past twenty years, whatever the hell Anna Wintour is (does the phrase "fashion mogul even cover it?), a world famous rapist/comedian, and various exes and thorns in the paws of the Kardashian/West family?  I don't understand why more than a millisecond is needed to compute the absolute total impossibility.

Just because the people involved aren't blabbing on social media or in the press it doesn't mean shit isnt going down behind the scenes or that Kanye isn't getting hit with stuff in private. In fact anyone with a half of brain would know better than to discuss possible legal action publically. Lawyers would normally advice you to keep your mouth shut. I seriously doubt that Taylor, who already fed up with Kanye and is so careful about her image is just sitting around laughing this off.

The fact that he tweeted “Can somebody sue me already #I’llwait.” means he wants someone to sue him so he thinks he's on safe legal ground. He wants a lot of publicity & a court case would do it. Instead of people suing, I hope everyone just ignores him. That would hurt him more than anything else.

  • Love 3

Of course he is daring people to sue him - more attention!

If Kayne was anywhere near the "talent" that he thinks he is, he wouldn't have to resort to trotting out Taylor Swift and other celebrities in such a bizarre way to get attention.   All is says to me is that his music, artistry - whatever he wants to call it does not stand on its own.

And possibly push him to go even further for attention and publicity next time. Something even  more outrageous. He's like the kid that craves attention and doesn't care if it's good or bad, at least he's getting noticed.

I absolutely love the fact that beyond "wtf, whatever, man", people aren't really seeming to care about this. Kanye has fallen so far from artistry that he is doing the most to try and incite the lowest common denominator to talk and gossip. Only the simpering remaining even claim this is art. This is pitiful. He wants lawsuits, he wants chatter and he really hasn't gotten much. Real genius doesn't work for clickbait, real genius works for art.

Boring, Kanye. Fail. And this is coming from someone who was a real fan and believes that deep down, he does have a rare artistic genius but has been caught up in superficiality and fame.

And he  wasn't going to get caught up in the Kardashian circus. He was going to keep his daughter out of the public eye. He was going to get a law passed that the paps  would have to pay her for pictures they took of her. He wasn't going to be on KUWTK. He's ended up living with Pimp mama for close to three years, his wife is posting pictures and video of their daughter daily , he's on the show more and more as time goes by, tagging along like Corey.

He used to put reality tv and Kim's show down and act as if it were beneath him, but I guess the kool  aid has taken effect.

The dumbing down of our society continues. I long for the days when contributing something to life actually had some meaning. Now, being obnoxious is supposed to be edgy and celebrated.  It is a bit reassuring to see so little reaction. That actually must scare the crap out of the Kardashians and Kanye.

  • Love 9

Once again, to paraphrase Buffy the Vampire Slayer, just when it seems like Kanye couldn't possibly get worse than rock bottom, he finds a lower place. Kanye's latest exploitation of Kim-his own wife- is bad enough, but his umpteenth attack on Taylor Swift is beyond the pale, even for him. That Yeezy would disrespect his wife and Taylor-but not Beyonce-this way is pretty telling, the way I see it.

At this point, as far as I'm concerned, Kanye's not just insulting Taylor; he's bullying her. I know that Taylor's a big girl and she can take care of herself, but if Calvin Harris and her other exes aren't pulling this kind of shit, then Kanye shouldn't either-or rather, wouldn't, if he was even remotely as great as he thinks he is.

He didn't reference any of them by their celebrity name tho,  or has he?

As an artist,  he knows that line about perception and everyone seeing what they want to see..

I haven't been reading a bunch about this but haven't seen anything where he says " that one is Taylor, that one is Anna, etc".

Is that his loophole?

He's an ass-hat at times but he surely ran this idea through legal representation due to the salaciousness and risk of litigation involved.

(edited)

Ran across this article & this quote from Kanye caught my eye:

Quote

a lot of lines other wives would not allow a husband to say," he said. "But my wife also puts up photos that other husbands wouldn't let them put up. One of the keys to happiness in our marriage is we’re allowed to be ourselves.

Hmm, sounds like Kanye isn't loving Kim's nude selfies as much as she wants us to believe.

Taylor Swift has issues a statement, not about the video, but about the song itself. The first line is pure gold.

"Taylor does not hold anything against Kim Kardashian, as she recognizes the pressure Kim must be under and that she is only repeating what she has been told by Kanye West,"

It's a lengthy statement, more here.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/17/entertainment/taylor-swift-kim-kardashian-gq/index.html

The last line is pretty good too:

"Kim Kardashian's claim that Taylor and her team were aware [of the lyrics] is not true, and Taylor cannot understand why Kanye West, and now Kim Kardashian, will not just leave her alone."

Ray J is not happy that Kanye West featured him in his new music video "Famous." Even more, the Moesha alum says that the NSFW footage — which showed him naked — is causing relationship problems with his fiancée, Princess Love.

"Man, I'm just trying to stay positive," the rapper, 35, told Entertainment Tonight at the BET Awards at the Microsoft Theater in L.A. on Sunday, June 26.

"I'm engaged. My marriage is all messed up 'cause of craziness. I'm not part of nothing crazy. I walk down a good path," he continued. "My fiancée tripping. It's all bad in my world, and that ain't cool."

"The Famous video is one of the more disturbing 'artistic' efforts in recent memory," Dunham wrote. "Now I have to see the prone, unconscious, waxy bodies of famous women, twisted like they’ve been drugged and chucked aside at a rager? It gives me such a sickening sense of dis-ease..."

On one of the great issues of the day, Kanye West has long made his position clear: Celebrity lives matter... he's railed against how it “is OK to treat celebrities like zoo animals.” He’s vowed “to raise the respect level for celebrities so that my daughter can live a more normal life...” Watching it [the video], you think of leaked sex tapes and the violation they represent. You think of how celebrities are the foremost victims and beneficiaries of voyeurism... You think, perhaps most of all, of West’s reputation as a jackass... Truthfully, it was only Ray J, who is happy to be relevant again.  Otherwise, there is no way he is considered a celebrity anymore.  Also, does he not get like 60K a week with the profits of that tape?  It is probably his main source of income these days.

If I was his fiance, I would be more embarrassed with those "For the Love of Ray Jay" shows he did a while back.

Kanye claimed everyone wanted to be in the bed with him and Kim.  He said there were many people who were mad they were not included.  Yeah, you keep telling yourself that.

Is Kanye really on point to become a billionaire through the Adidas shoe deal?

I heard rumors that before their marriage Kim and Kanye signed a prenup that what's her is hers and what's his is his before and after the marriage.  I think at that time Kim had more money through all her gigs and family wealth and she wanted to protect her money.  I bet if he becomes a billionaire she will want to renegotiate.

This is all rumors, so I really do not know if it is true.

The Adidas deal is definitely going to make him a shitload of money, but I think Kanye always had more money than Kim because I remember the figures being tossed around when the stuff about the pre-nup was all over the rags.. he didn't want a pre-nup because he said the money didnt matter to him and people in his camp were telling him he was nuts. IIRC it was Kris and Jay Z who pushed them into signing one. I would have to look it up but I know the one thing that was definitely in Kim's favor was a supposed enormous life insurance policy that she's the beneficiary on.

If the deal happens the way its supposed to he is going to be downright insufferable.

This is what I was able to find about the pre-nup..he has a 20 million dollar insurance policy that Kim gets even if they are divorced when he dies and at the time they note she was worth about 40 million and he was worth 100 million.  Granted Kim has since made a ton more money due to the video game mostly..but yeah she just might be married to a billionaire soon. Gag.

Me too. Deals like this explain why he gets away with being so crazy. Companies keep throwing millions of dollars at him. In a way it makes me understand why he is so narcisstic, thinking he's such a great "artist." He is being well rewarded for his behavior. All the lucrative deals just reinforce his delusions of grandeur.

I saw some of his new Yeezy sneakers in articles about the Adidas deal. Those are butt-ugly sneakers. I don't know why any celebrity would want to be seen in them. Oh well, now Anna Wintour will probably do a Vogue photo spread on the hideous Yeezy fashions.

Discussion of Kanye's run for the US Presidency is off-limits here, unless and until the run appears on the show itself, as per our Politics Policy. https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/94644-politics-primetimer-updated-070319
