OFFICERS NOLAN AND HARPER ARE ON LOCKDOWN ON AN ALL-NEW EPISODE OF ABC’S ‘THE ROOKIE,’ AIRING SUNDAY, APRIL 26

“Under the Gun” – Officers Nolan and Harper are tasked with escorting four juvenile offenders to a Scared Straight program at a correctional facility that quickly becomes a riotous situation. Meanwhile, Nolan is uncertain about his relationship with Grace after she fails to introduce him to her ex-husband on an all-new episode of “The Rookie,” airing SUNDAY, APRIL 26 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. (TV-14, DLV) Episodes can also be viewed the next day on demand and on Hulu.

“The Rookie” stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper, Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez, Richard T. Jones as Sergeant Wade Grey, Titus Makin Jr. as Jackson West, Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen and Eric Winter as Tim Bradford.

Guest starring in this episode is Harold Perrineau as Detective Nick Armstrong, Ali Larter as Dr. Grace Sawyer, Jasmine Mathews as Rachel Hall and Matthew Glave as Oscar Hutchinson.

How is Oscar planning to explain his future snitch-like amenities, including a big screen tv? And wouldn't the 2 goons he set up know that he had set them up? It would seem like he would not last long.

There was a murder spree in Nova Scotia. A guy dressed as a cop in a realistic looking fake cop car drove through several small towns shooting random [except his girlfriend] people.

If Rachel hadn't had Iris' kid taken to the hospital, no one would know why he and the neighbor kids were so sick.  She did a good thing.  Iris should be grateful.  Of course she would get him back once a little evidence about the cluster of sick kids was presented.  The correct diagnosis was worth her temporary heartache.

Please let Grace and Nolan be over over over.  They have less chemistry than Bradford and Rachel.

Arnold should have used "a face hugger was on him and an alien burst out of his stomach" line instead of the gas station sushi line. Works 6 out of 10 times. Who eats sushi from a gas station? You deserve to be shot for doing that!

Rachel was aggressive with the mom and didn't gather all the facts. Now she made her co-worker look stupid for not putting the 4 cases together earlier.

Nyla shouldn't get on Nolan too hard about being naive. She's the one that left the key in the ignition. 

Fletcher was the real fool that needed to be scared straight. Too bad he was sent back juvenile detention and missed all the fun.

If tough guys are getting shanked to death everyday, the warden should be out of a job.

Nolan is told to stand back and keep quiet but as usual he had to interfere and tell the warden the program won't work on Hector.

Sally calls Elvis first but not the cops!? 

CO Sharp had some weird hair going on.

There are an active shooter and a prison riot taken place, yet Grey, Bradford and Chen are not summoned to either location.

The prison riot and last scene in the prison were ridiculous. And the show couldn't bother let us know the outcome of the prison (let's quickly get to the soap opera portion of the show with the time left)? Did the warden keep her promise to Oscar? Is the warden even alive? Is the fire still going? Did CO Anderson get his shirt back?

Bye Grace! Bye Rachel! Maybe Bradford can reach out to shows like "Blue Bloods" to transfer to.

Wow, I feel dumb that I didn't pick up on that - my brain was so stuck on the prison storyline that I assumed it had something to do with that.

I already see how it will be: Rachel will most likely break up with Tim, especially after Lucy said that Tim basically bled LA and he would be miserable having to start over and be away from everyone. Plus, what got me was bout Tim and Rachel asking Lucy about the other cause they really didn’t know each other that well like Lucy knows them both.
 

I do like Rachel as a character, but you can definitely tell she was only temporary. Plus, would they actually have gotten together at all if Lucy never set them up? 🤔 

Grace/Nolan: Thank you god. Even though Grace’s excuse was a pile of bullshit, I’m still happy.

So happy that Angela didn’t let that comment stop her from being the Badass she really is.

No employer can require a pre-employment (or post) genetic test.  Very very illegal.  (Unless, somehow, they can show it's job related, which I can't imagine how a test for Huntington's would be.) 

I liked how it was pointed out if Bradford transferred to NY he'd have to start all over again and basically be Nolan.  hee. 

eh, it was an ok episode.  Another OTT situation for Nolan, which is just getting tiring.  I'm glad that in the end Lopez's chance of detective hasn't been blown.  I still find West to be a relatively useless character. 

I'm perfectly fine with Grace leaving, though I can't imagine what child expert would advise two parents who are so far down the line to divorce that one is already sleeping with someone else to just get back together because the kid is having problems in school.  Like, how is that going to work out well?  Here, live in a house with two adults who really don't want to be together, but are *just because of you*, and see if that somehow creates a better environment.  Yeah, no.

Nolan is very picky. He wasn't satisfied with Sarah Shahi, and now Ali Larter goes by the board. I wonder who next?

😆  Bradford would never..but yeah, good job almost destroying your dream job before you even set into NY.

It was interesting when Grey was talking to Bradford how he was basically going to be starting over:  new city, basically living together, no social network, going through the academy again; and telling Tim if Rachel is the one, it essentially will be worth it.

How is that going to explain why she is no longer at the hospital every time they bring a patient to the ER?

She is always getting called into emergency Parent -Teacher meetings..

Or Nolan uses lethal force on EVERY perp from now on...and makes Harper his personal combat medic to avoid the hospital

I thought he was asking for a plasma TV for the whole cell block, not just for himself.

They just won't go to the ER that much. Besides, they could film half a dozen cameo appearances in one day to slip into various episodes as needed -- but probably won't even bother.

Yes, that really made me roll my eyes. You don't get back together with someone you don't love because won't you think of the children!?! Co-parent in a calm, rational, non-hateful way. Get that kid a different therapist. I realize it must be plot-driven so their hands were tied, but it was dumb. They could have made it that her relationship with Nolan made her miss all the red flags her son was giving and she needed to break up to be there for her kid, who comes first. That would have made more sense (at least to me), especially during an episode with juvenile delinquents who could probably also use more parental guidance! Full circle and all that. Blergh.

Agreed.  Maybe if you were going to be an astronaut in outer space, in which case the applicant would have been required to provide an extensive family history from the beginning.

It was unlikely that Nolan and Harper would kill them with chair legs, and he didn't know that Tomas was going to show up.

I noticed the mom was drinking a fast food soda, maybe the other parents don't drink as much water as the kids do..and even so, some people are more sensitive and react faster and more significantly than others.

I actually liked Nolan and Grace together. Too bad this one bit the dust too.

Elvis just happens to have an office in Mid Wilshire on their beat okay but the prison is nowhere near the central city even if S.W.A.T. did a story where they helped in a prison riot. I was surprised every episode they show the boots carrying all the rifles and shotguns to the "shop" yet when you think it was really needed and they took time to add additional armor nobody grabbed more firepower. 

I guess punching a wounded but resisting suspect who was hit with two pistol rounds is one thing but the follow up scene wouldn't have been sporting if she shot him with the shotgun

I don't take this show seriously at all - I just enjoy it - it's a fast hour.  It entertains me.  I will say this, a PRISON RIOT - and the SWAT Team and very available member of the LAPD weren't there in minutes?  Especially when 2 of their own were stuck in the Prison,

I LOVE all the regular female cast members, but the outsiders have been so meh. If they plan on pairing Nolan or Bradford up again they need to come up with some feisty chicks worthy of this cast.

I want to give kudos to the lighting, makeup, hair and wardrobe folks. Everyone, male and female, looks good - beautiful, natural and relaxed, not overdone or fake. The sound on the other hand, is a problem - the background noise and music are too loud and I sometimes have a hard time understanding the dialogue.

Negotiations for TV shows especially for being a lead, takes months. It doesn’t happen in a day. They were probably aware that the actress had other commitments but hired them anyway.

Both of those actresses were recurring guest stars, which entails no obligation to be exclusive to the show. While they may have signed on for a specific number of episodes, they are free to take any other work they can get. As recurring guest stars it was clear their story lines would most likely come to an end once they had fulfilled their contractual obligations.

I agree. I was responding to the other poster who implied that the writers were not aware they had other projects. That is unlikely as I am sure they were aware when they were hired.

Writers are not involved in casting and contract negotiations and have no say in who gets hired. They may or may not know what other projects actors are involved in. Even if they do know, it's irrelevant. Their job is to write the show the network wants.

Ya I meant the showrunner and network who would have informed the writers to write the character to be temporary.

they can come together and fall apart quickly. Ali Larter's show hasn't shot a pilot and doesn't have a series commitment, why not hire her seeing as her future project was at the time and still isn't anywhere near production?

JMO - for whatever reason, they are having a problem getting Nolan a love-interest.  If this show gets another year, it'll probably get 5 for syndication,  They are going to have to deal with it.  They will have to find someone Nathan clicks with and sign for a few years.

And he has had zero chemistry with the 3 he had so far. With each relationship being as boring as the other.
