Faison was fantastically evil because Anders committed to it.  He didn't straddle the fence of good and evil, he was all in on the side of evil.  Peter/Wes/the writers want their cake and eat it too, they want Peter to be evil like his father but also want him to be Maxie's knight in shining armor and no offence to Wes, but he can't pull that off.  So what we get is a diluted version of evil

Wanting things both ways is one of the show's bigger problems, IMO. The writers hedge their bets with too many characters. Look at Ava: She's OMG TEH EVUL; no, she's a crying softie. MW tries, but she's really let down by the writing, and I think WR is, too. I'm sure the writers think this is giving the characters layers, but it's not. It's too plot-pointy to work for me.

Faison worked because, as @perkie1968 notes, Anders committed to it. And the writers didn't try to make him anything but evil, so they held up their end, too. Things got pretty nutty at the end, but it was still entertaining for me because Anders made it work, and for once, Faison stayed a villain.

I don't think any soap is going to want Billy Miller again as long as he doesn't want to sign anything else besides one year contracts.

I guess that says something about the industry in general -- people with talent who won't commit to long term contracts are ignored, but people who phone in performances for months on end (and we've discussed some of that behavior here in the past)  keep getting rehired.

Y&R used him and gave him material for years. On this show he was neglected a bit but imo he also phoned it in a lot.

Roger Howarth also only signed one year contracts (on GH, I don't know about his other shows) until 2017.

Liesl being a boss and singing "Guilty" was definitely the highlight of today's show.

Cam's snicker when Franco was revealed was adorable. I also loved how Elizabeth laughed looking at him. I feel like that was more WL and BH. They have such a good vibe between them. (I still crack up when I think of Elizabeth's "Aw, baby's first hangover!")

I always get weird secondhand embarrassment at the NB opening numbers with Jackie Zeman.  I know I should applaud her for being a good sport, but I just cringe.

Also, I was reminded today how much I hated that whole Mike/Yvonne storyline.

I thought the exact same thing about JZ. I watched only for the performances. ?it took less than 4 minutes. LOL

On today's General Hospital, also from the Nurses Ball 2019

Finn proposes to Anna and she accepts (interesting that a year later and there's  been no real movement on that front)

Kristina confronts Shiloh.  Sonny warns him to back off.  Kris is worried about Sam.

Lucas wonders why Brad is acting squirelly.  (otherwise known as a day that ends in a Y)

Joss watches a DVD from Oscar beyond the grave which convinces her to go the ball.  She puts on three boxes of aluminum foil and heads over there.

Liesl and Franco perform, as does Cameron and later, Ava.  (One thing I learned from watching 5 balls back to back is that it's a good thing Kathleen Gahti and Maura West are here, since they're the ones that were the standouts, with a smaller shoutout to Wally Kurth, and this year, William Lipton)

Nina overhears Willow on the phone with Diane, talking about the baby.   Shiloh overhears them discuss it.  So basically it was all Nina's fault.

Kevin is worried about Laura and Curtis, who are on the hunt for Ryan.  Curtis reaches out to Chase to let him know that Ryan is alive and on his way to PC.

LOL. Joss's dress really was awful. And the DVD reminded me how obsessed she was with what Oscar would want her to do. I know the NB was pretty soon after he died, but wow, she really couldn't make any decision without thinking how Oscar may have reacted. Ugh.

But, honestly, one of the most annoying soap tropes is how everyone discusses these MAJOR SECRETS out in public and then acts shocked when someone overhears.

Chase hugging Finn to congratulate him on his engagement was adorable.

When she was waffling about going back to school, I'm surprised no one thought to tell her that Oscar had walked those hallowed halls and if she went back to school her feet could tread upon the same tiles.

I don’t care if this makes me look petty and/or mean, but I really resent that there were pictures of Oscarrr while Cam was singing at the Ball. A Ball that was/is for AIDS/HIV research. And this twerp didn’t die from either.😒😒😒🤬🤬🤬

That’s what I meant when I stated that Hack!Frank’s! version lacks HEART. Pictures, videos of real people who are fighting this disease should have been shown instead.

And SHUTUP, Anna. If you knew how important this night was, then you could have held your glands in check until the end, before boinking Finn.

MAC* should have been the one to talk about Robin since he was there and raised her when she was diagnosed.🤬🤬🤬

*Still Bitter.

Pfft, Drew. He's JasonLite, as far as the show is concerned, so whatever happened to him is no big deal.

(And I don't think he's really dead, either. He'll return eventually, I think, whether he's played by Billy Miller or a recast. The show can't resist bringing back "dead" characters.)

I don't think Drew is dead either.  He'll be back during one of the Sweeps with yet another new face.  (I'd be shocked if Billy Miller returns, considering they way he was treated and the crappy exit they gave him.  I mean his character didn't even warrant  a Memorial.

All those dresses which finish the long skirts and run out of material before finished the tops.

I'd forgotten how much of a BSC bitch OldNina was.  A much better fit for Valentin than the current version.

Stop talking about the RCMP! They have no jurisdiction in Niagara Falls. Yes, it's a recognizable name but don't encourage misinformation about other countries.

To be fair the GH writers encourage a lot of misinformation about the US as well.

The Canadian side of Niagara Falls, I think.

The RCMP functions in those areas of Canada that don't have provincial police forces. In Ontario, it would be the Ontario Provincial Police who has jurisdiction, not the RCMP.

If they were in Quebec, it's the Surete du Quebec.

I was simultaneously cracking up and rolling my eyes as Laura, a mayor in a town in another country, was ordering around the RCMP to get her a helicopter to fly back to PC.

OMG, the MetroCourt hostage story! Jerry Jacks! Lorenzo Alcazar! OG Lulu!

Did they actually show this episode? If that's the case, color me shocked!

Today's episode originally aired in 2007 during the Metrocourt hostage.....

Original recipe Lulu, Nikolas, Lucky, and red headed demon Michael.  Emily, Patrick, Ric Skye and Lorenzo still live in Port Charles..  Liz is pregnant with Jake.  Mac's the police commisioner.  Everyone looks like they're twelve.  ...

Jerry Jackes is in charge of the hostage situation.  He allows  Liz, Emily and Carly to  take care of a shot Robin via Patrick over the phone.

Alexis blames Lorenzo but Skye reassures him.  Alexis is admitted to the hospital after almost passing out, a remnant of her lung cancer treatment.  she and Ric argue over custody of Molly.

Sonny's been beaten up and is locked in a room with Lulu.  Jerry dumps Carly in with him when she's done sewing up Robin.  Carly complains about Robin.  So, nothing's changed there in 13 years.

Spinelli bangs on keyboard keys while Jason stands over him.  So, nothing's changed there in 13 years

Seriously. They're all babies.

We also got Manny's twin brother the priest, and Sam asks him if he's ever used a knife, and could he use it to kill someone today. She hasn't gotten smarter as the years have passed.

When I saw 2007 I thought it would TB Carly but it was LW. I guess I didn’t realize she’s been on GH. Everyone did look young. Sprinelli with his over brushed hair & Jason.....is Jason. I still with JMB was playing LuLu. She had more grit & didn’t sound like a twelve year old. I know ER is well liked but she just doesn’t have the feisty nature that JMB had. She was 10 times better as LuLu. She also looked like GF which really helped.

Who would have thought I would have gotten the feels watching that opening? When the previous one was so much better. You know the one that had the sound of the heart? Showed all the couples? But compared to the cheapness of the past 7-8 years, I got all misty today. Even watching Luke walking off.

Oh! Lookie! It’s that doctor who so Cheesily got killed off on Night Shift I!

I never knew a doctor could force you to check yourself into the hospital! @perkie1968 and @dubbel zout are right: they ALL look like babies! I miss Julie’s Lulu so much.

STFU, Mooby. I won’t lie: I had a big ass grin on my face seeing him all beat to shit.

SheBeast can also shut it. Never fails to make everything about her. Projecting what she would obviously say if the same thing happened to her onto Robin. 😒😒😒

Skye can also STFU.

I could feel Patrick’s fear as he walked Emily through helping Robin.

And that scream at the end? I felt it all the way to my bones.🥺🥺🥺

I know I mentioned it when it first aired, but I will never understand why Jerry shot Robin like that; so indifferently; coldly. Considering that he knew her. I can’t recall if she and the original Jerry ever shared scenes, but he was at the Nurses Ball when Robin was there.

That said, I do so love Sebastian’s “Darling” as he’s threatening Elizabeth, Emily and SheBeast. Or was it to Lulu as he dragged her away?

I’M SO NOT looking forward to what’s facing Alan.

OH! And STFU AD INFINITUM, JAR JAR BINKS! I don’t care that he doesn’t know that Robin’s been shot; stupid Jaysus, I would like to think would save Robin first. I don’t remember how that played out.

Oh yuck. Red-headed demon spawn STUPID LITTLE SHIT.

Man, this re-run is showing me a) how bad the writing has gotten b) how hard the actors are phoning it in NOW.  People were actually....acting in this 2007 episode. Damn, I miss it.

And I miss the original theme song too.

All of the women in this show probably looked their best around that time in 2007

While NLG has always looked the same to me she looked really good here. 13 years ago is a lot of years for anyone. Also, the show wasn’t even in high def. They would probably have looked even better on when they were younger in high definition and better lighting. The show was a lit a a lot darker then. Were they afraid to pay for the electrical bill? LOL!!!

I see it the other way. There was more natural lighting. What we see today? CHEAPASS flourescent lighting. Not to mention the horrific "makeover" of the Quartermaine Mansion.

I’ve gotten over the makeover but I wish they had just kept the front entry and staircase the same. I like the blues and lighter colors though. That said, I don’t like Sonny & Carly’s house. The tiny staircase looks horrible. Once again, the set was fine but just needed some new paint to lighten things up a bit. They are always bitching about their budgets but then they build whole new sets when they didn’t need to. They should put their budget into better writers if anything,

I still haven't. It all looks very sterile, and not like a home at all. The warmth is gone. But I shouldn't be surprised.

I love that haircut on LW. I also like the purple shirt and tie combo on MB.

It cracks me up that this is supposedly "the best of Carly and Sonny," and all they do is yell and fight. It is something they do a lot.

Ugh, OG Lauren. And this dumb bouncing between idiot Corinthii sons.

What???!! You mean they didn't continue with yesterday's episode?

On one hand, I'm glad, because ALAN!😭

But the other, dammit, I wanted to see if Jerry let Robin go or...what happened. My mind's all fuzzy.

It is soooo sad that I was looking forward to more of 2007...

Today's episode originally aired in 2013.  The players and storylines at this time are:

Dante (who's idea was it to let the super hot and talented Dominic go?), Lulu (as now played by Emme Rylan), Maxie (Kirsten was looking fantastic here) and Spinelli.  Lante have a new baby girl to deal with thanks to Maxie's surrogacy.  But Spinelli has just found out that the baby is actually his daughter with Maxie.

Baby Danny is recovering from his cancer scare.  Sam is dating Dr Silas Clay.

Sonny, Carly (Laura looked fantastic with that hair and red dress), Ava, Morgan, Kiki (as played by Kirsten Alderson), and Michael.  Connie has recently died and Sonny has gone off his meds to feel the pain.  Morgan has rushed Kiki to the altar, before she can find out that she's not related to Michael after all.  At the wedding reception, Sonny, who knows the truth, blows it out of the water, imploding the marriage.  Carly tears a strip off of Sonny and convinces him to go back onto his meds.  Kiki and MIchael admit their feelings for each other.  Morgan seeks solace in Ava's arms.

The babies were adorable. They should have ended having babies right then and there.

First Ava/Morgan hookup! Such a contrast to boring stale Michael/Kiki, who even described their sex back then as "nice". The kiss of death.

That's all I got. The rest wasn't worth commenting on.
