Episode Discussion II: The TFGH

Culture Check: How can we discuss a character's or actor's appearance without objectifying them? How can we express likes or dislikes and still respect an individual's humanity or be mindful that a character represents a person someone else might relate to or identify with?

I hate surprise kids, but in the case I would accept it. Michael is completely intolerable. He's a stupid little shit who has no business acumen; is a petty, selfish asshole; and has never lived up to the position his mother, especially, has assigned him. If a long-lost AJ kid can come back and destroy Michael professionally, that would be amazing. But Michael can never lose, especially via a child of the despised AJ. That kid would become another dumping ground for all of the Q and PC ills. We have enough of those the way it is.

Remember that brief period of time when Dex was first on the scene and his hatred for Sonny was so intense that we all figured there was a personal history there and some wondered if he could have been AJ’s long lost son? It would have been terrible in execution because the actor isn’t good enough but more importantly on this show Sonny always wins. But man if they could bring on a show runner who didn’t always force the Carly’s to win, I would love to see it.

Drew is the absolute worst it almost makes me look forward to him getting

Spoiler

completely shunted to make way for Jason. But I also hate that Carly will be so happy to be in Jasons orbit again. Can we somehow have Jason date Nina so Carly’s head literally explodes?

I am not surprised that Carly will be running Crimson. I had thought that Drew was eventually going to offer that way back when she lost the Metrocourt.

It is also a soap, so people with no experience/training generally get jobs/careers that they would never get in the real world.

Currently on canvas, we have only a handful of people who we saw go to school and get trained for their careers without much career sorasing (Liz somewhat, TJ and Molly).

I will watch it this weekend, but did Nina actually thought that Michael would be on her side versus Drew.

She thought that Michael, as a hard-headed Quartermaine (lol) would be opposed to Drew tanking the prime Aurora acquisition just to mess with Nina. She didn't know that Drew was lying when he said that he would fire everyone if she didn't resign.

Nik has a more checkered past, is on the run from the police, doesn’t have any legal rights to the child, and is a terrible parent to boot.

And on top of those, for all that Spencer keeps calling Esme a psychopath (she's not), Nik is a proven sociopath. I don't know what they're trying to do with this because this is the worst that Spencer has ever been.

BTW, he had totally Crazy!Eyes! when he revealed that.

Also, it's pretty gross that Carly was all "golly, gee, were you supposed to meet Drew--I think something came up, cut him some slack" and talking about grace and second chances to Sam when she was about to do her bad Alexis Carrington impersonation at Crimson.

Like she’s clearly relishing Drew being a petty asshole and doesn’t care that his daughter is suffering as a result. She’s always salivated when the men in her life treat other women like garbage. It’s gross and her biggest toxic trait.

Drew has definitely become a jerk with that Aurora/Nina move; very vindictive. Carly was saying earlier that it’s best to just let things go but she sure jumped on board to stick it to Nina. I hope she’s side eyeing Drew with his recent attitude and actions because she could end up on his bad side

Why did Cyrus wait hours to tell Laura that Nic took Ace?

Adam’s dad is certainly a jerk. Like others, I wish the writers had gone in a different direction and not make parents the bad guys

I’m not sure I liked how careful Dr. Robinson was talking to Adam, at least initially. It was like she was purposely being vague when the patient had a right to know what was going on. It felt weird

Nina has money.  She should have poached all the staff and started a new magazine.

Carly, putting her heart and soul into Bobbie's Diner, then abandoning it to flunkies before the paint has dried on the new sign.  Her new purpose in life got old fast.

How else would brave, strong, Joss be able to stand up to injustice?  I kind of wish Adam's parental issues were all in his head.  And that they send him away for a long, restful vacation.

I love it here. It's makes my blood boil just to read all that's happening on the show. I'm glad I barely watch anymore, if that makes sense. Lol.  I saw a YouTube comment today saying that Laura Wright has brought a sweetness to Carly that the other actresses didn't. Are you kidding me? I actually used to like Carly when Tamara was playing her. I didn't watch the Sarah Brown days. But LW's Carly has been nothing but a shrieking harpy. That's how I've always put it. Lol I've hated Carly ever since she took over the role. I don't love Nina, but let her take them all down!

You know the Carlys would pillory Nina for giving up on her family. Nina can't win no matter what.

We've suffered through months of Nina being piled on one way or another. When Nina is getting blamed for being blackmailed, it's time to change the direction of the story. I'd like to see her do something for the Carlys that's so significantly good they can't deny it, and then have things go from there. They'll still hate her and accuse of acting in her own self-interest, but at least Nina would have something unarguably decent on her scorecard.

And speaking of blackmail, I hope Esmé calls Spencer's bluff. I can't believe that turd put his own feelings for revenge ahead of the well-being of his 1-year-old brother.

Or maybe Esme should fidget herself a linebacker boyfriend at PCU and have him beat the holy crap out of Spencer.

I would love to play the role of a prominent Aurora shareholder and rip into Drew for what he’s already done and the crap he was saying about destroying his own PUBLICLY TRADED COMPANY in the process.

Then he threatens to put all his employees out of work over his petty vendetta.

Reading all the crap the show has going on, it makes me glad that I only watch for Sam & her kids/Davis Girls/Sante. I don't give a flip about the rest. I used to be a fan of Maxie, and still sort of am, but she's been boring, at least to me, lately.

I've been watching in fast forward mode on Hulu, and it goes so much faster, when all I have to do is look for Sam & her kids/Davis Girls/Sante. It means I don't have to watch the rest of the dumpster fire the show is. I tolerate BLQ/Chase scenes, but I don't like them as much as Sante.

Carly pisses me off regularly, unless she's nice to Sam. I don't have any use for her other than that. I don't care about Nina either way, to be honest. But I will say that Carly's psychotic hate for her, is tiring and irritating. As soon as they found out they shared a grandchild, Carly lost her flipping mind and never got it back.

Also, Drew annoys me, so I mostly ignore him unless he's in scenes with Sam or Scout.

If this were real life, Nina could sue the hell out of Drew and Aurora for firing her. She’s covered by the whistleblower protection act for reporting insider trading.

And Drew’s ass is hanging as far as civil litigation for his corporate malfeasance as Aurora’s CEO or whatever the Hell he is there.  They. Ed a new nemesis for him that would be an Aurora shareholder that his antics screwed worse than Carly.  I could play that brilliantly, and I’m not even an actor.

And it would actually salvage this whole shit storyline if his obnoxious entitled ass were forced to deal with someone he hurt with the whole stupid merger storyline.

But these writers are the most untalented, ignorant morons I’ve ever seen on a network show.

I can tell you for sure that she isn't because she was with him when he hatched this ugly little chicken. He  told her he knew how to make Nina pay. So he probably told her then that he was going to fire Nina and put her in charge.

And Drew became a jerk as soon as he came back from Greece and got the idea for the merger that was going to leave Ned out in the cold. He's gotten only worse since he became Carly's latest purse holder and glorified mouth piece.

The writing today also made Carly appear to be fake as hell with Sam today. Carly clearly knew what Drew was doing while Sam was waiting on him yet was patting her on the head telling her to give Drew grace. I mean, why didn’t Carly tell her bff that Drew left her waiting because he thought plotting revenge on Nina was more important? I guess because she knows it doesn’t make her look like the good person she thinks she is when she’s stoking the fire and giving that smug smirk alongside him while Sam is concerned about his behavior.

Yes.  This is the problem.  The Facebook Frannies.  They are unhinged, and it appears to be TPTB's top place to visit.  I think Twitter can have some influence, but only when it goes viral, like red flag Finn, which was totally a twitter thing. And Sprina fans are big there.  But it in no way even approaches the influence Facebook GH has on them. And the Frannies do love their mob moll with the big hair and mouth to match.

I used to write a column about All My Children and, therefore, was forced to endure CM' s horrific lack of acting ability. Oh, the joy of being able to FF'd through his one-note line readings!

Nina's mistake was not that she reported them but that she didn't think through the repercussions in her own life and that makes her, well, human.

Note to Carly: Smug is not a fashion statement.

I don't know what Esme wrote on the birth certificate. If she wrote Nik's name on it, she should be able to get funds from the Cassadine estate for support and she isn't.

I don't know US law but it is illegal in Canada for one parent to take a child out of the country without written permission from the other parent.

It is stupid. And easily solved by asking someone with medical experience.

Finn would have signed off to another ER doc when he went off shift (highly unlikely that it would be to the co-chief of staff/internal medicine specialist though). Adam should have been assessed by the psych attending or resident who would then decide if he needed to be admitted and be the doctor of record.

I have a feeling that Dante and Sam are going to get engaged at one point, and it'll be a horrible repeat of Jason coming back and ruining their wedding/relationship, just like he did with Patrick and Sam. That burned me up so much. Put Jason up someone else's ass, and let Sam be happy for more than 5 minutes.

PS: No shade to anyone who doesn't like Sam. She's my favorite character and has been since I started watching in like, 2005 or whatever year the Summer of Sleeze happened, where Ric and Sam slept together. Maybe 2007? It was also the same time when Liz slept with Jason and got knocked up with the spawn of Satan.

That might have raised red flags with Willow. Michael has never taken much interest in Crimson. And Sonny's pea brain might have wondered as well.

I feel like Jason and Sam are genuinely dunzo. Carly is the one who will want to get Jason back. But it depends on the writers, of course.

I hope they are. I used to be a JaSam fan, but how many flipping times are they going to "kill" Jason off, and leave Sam torn and broken? Only for her to put her life back together, finally move on, only for him to come back and wreck it all again. So tired of that.

As much as I hate the idea of Jarly, as long as Jason leaves Sam tf alone, and she can keep being happy with Dante, I'm good. I just want Sam to be happy. Jason, Sonny, Carly, Liz, Nina, they can all be pushed off a cliff for all I care. Maybe even little creepy Roadkill can do it. (Roadkill is Jake, btw.)

I hope they don't try to put Jason and Sam back together. They seemed to be really over long before Jason "died" again. Just make him focus on his kids. Like that will happen. Lol.

The only reason I might be happy about him coming back is so Drew can get dropped like a hot potato again. I hated it with Billy Miller's Drew, but with this guy I'm all for it. Although I'm really not on board with Carly and Jason possibly becoming a real couple again.

My one long-standing wish for this show is that Carly NEVER gets Jason, as that's her fucking Mount Everest.  As long as she doesn't accomplish that, I feel like a part of her will always be a loser and I'm good with that.  Also, it's hilarious to me because SBu has played Jason as almost asexual for yeras--especially when it comes to Carly.  I don't care what rewritten bullshit the writers tried to pull before he left.

They were done as a couple before Jason's latest death. He was into Britt before the writing sent him Carly's way. Sam and Dante were getting close. He even told Drew about it while they were being held together by Victor.

I think Jason and Sam are DOA. During his last run, they had Jason said he’s always been in love with Carly and should have said no when Sam said she wanted to have kids. I don’t think there’s any way coming back from that.

If anybody has a right to push Sam down the stairs, then it is the child that could have been killed twice over when he was an infant due to her actions.  She allowed him to be kidnapped by a woman suffering a psychotic break.  He was less than 6 months old!  It was just luck that the kidnapper had the wherewithal to actually care for him.  If her psychosis was deep enough, then Jake could have starved to death before he was found.  It was also just luck that he didn't have an allergic reaction to anything the kidnapper gave him.  Sam also had him threatened at gunpoint, also when he was less than 6 months old.  What if the Keystone PCPD showed up and started shooting?  Sam is no heroine.

The only person Jason has ever truly fought for is Sonny. The women always do the heavy lifting in relationships. Oh, Jason tells Carly to lay off the sniping and snarking of his girlfriends, but that's barely the least he could do.

I'd be more than fine if Jason never has another woman in his life. He won't change his ways for anyone, and even without that, he's no prize.
