  1. All the twists and turns! They had me going!
  2. Not to worry - we saw 2 toothbrushes going into that holder. I thought Howard and Bernadette were so cute in this episode. I mean, cute with each other.
  3. Great episode! I think this show has hit its stride.
  4. This was maybe the funniest episode I've seen. My favorite part was Jessica bargaining for the sneakers then ending up with shoes that fell apart. I love Jessica's confidence, but I also love that she doesn't always win.
  5. Loved it; I loved that the mother isn't letting the boy get away with being a jerk. I kinda feel sorry for someone who thinks Katie Mixon is fat, though.
  6. Great episode! My favorite part was at the end, when Amy and Sheldon got all worked up by their fight. But Leonard and Penny dancing around the apartment was cute too!
  7. From the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law: Details: http://www.brennancenter.org/sites/default/files/legacy/d/download_file_39242.pdf
  8. I loved this episode - it rang so true on so many levels, and it was funny to boot. Let me tell you - 2 years ago, I spent 2 months helping my 83 year old mother get a Photo ID so she could vote. We had to get a birth certificate first, which ironically was pretty difficult because she doesn't have a photo ID. (edited to add: we had to get her marriage certificate too, because of the name change.) Then I had to get her to the DMV. If I didn't have a car and the time to deal with this shit, she would not have been able to vote. Lots of older and poor people don't have photo ID; it's just not something they need. Except to vote.
  9. Obviously they had a retinal scan done previously. Maybe it's done routinely, like fingerprinting at some jobs.
  10. Different strokes - that is my very favorite episode. I actually taped it so I could watch it again this morning. All 3 family story lines were funny, and literally came together at the end.
  11. It was the final scene for me - I DVR'd it, so maybe there was another final scene. I was referencing the note that Dina was going to send to corporate, telling how when the corporate guy was there an untrained employee cut off his thumb. She kinda dangled it in front of him, so he decided HE wasn't going to send in his bad report on the store staff. He then told her she wasn't likable, and she told him "I don't care."
  12. What a great final scene! I'm glad Dina isn't totally unredeemable.
  13. I had mono in college - during finals week. I missed ALL my finals. I looked exactly like Alex - kinda grey - but fatigue and body aches were my only symptom - oh, and a neck that looked like I was swallowing hard boiled eggs. So I think Alex's symptoms were realistic. I'm glad they painted that mural - that was really ugly and totally wrong for the room of a 9 year old (! Lily is 9!)
  14. I didn't get the bit with the painting at the end - was that supposed to look like Jay?
  15. I suppose Amy only wears the tiara if she's a maid of honor. The harp playing was lovely, though. I LOL'd when Bernadette shut Howard up at the wedding. She's gonna make a great mother!
  16. The top 4 finishers in the men's 1500m (T13, visually impaired) beat the gold medal time from the Rio Olympics 1500! I heard this discussed on NPR today; apparently one reason is that the 1500 is a race of strategy as well as speed; the Olympic race was actually slower than any final since 1932. But still, an amazing feat for these 4 athletes!
  17. I saw a Chinese swimmer without arms swim the 100m backstroke... it was amazing!
  18. The first wife in "Make Room For Daddy" died when the actress wanted to leave the show. But they did it between seasons. Apparently having her die was considered more acceptable than having the couple divorce.
  19. After Larry Hagman's death, the new "Dallas" did a special opening credit:
  20. I seem to remember when they changed to rally scoring years ago, they said the matches were too long and this would speed up the game. Playing the 5th set to 15 is also done for that reason. I think it does change the intensity of the game... makes it more exciting, because every point counts.
  21. It's a sport. It requires athletic ability, flexibility, eye-hand coordination, and training. It has rules, scoring, judging and regular competitions.
  22. Actually, when I have shampoo in my eyes, I wouldn't mind large lettering on the bottles. I see why others might think it's demeaning, but I really don't think the shampoo manufacturers really think women don't understand which order to use the products. But speaking of demeaning commercials - who remembers the commercial with the tag line "My wife - I think I'll keep her." I think it was for Geritol, and iron and vitamin supplement. Mary Chapin Carpenter wrote a song with that as the title.
  23. Well, speak of the devil - just saw the 4x100 women's gold medal ceremony. 1 woman put her hand over her heart, 2 had their arms by their sides, and one was holding that little trinket they give the medalists. Wonder what Twitter will have to say about that?
  24. The hair for some of these women is amazing. But I saw a video piece on the Jamaican runner Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (she of the yellow and green hair), and they visited her in her hair salon in Jamaica, and she had very short hair. So, she must be wearing a wig. It just seems that something like that would slow you down. Plus, she looked good with the short hair. I just think it would be uncomfortable if nothing else. And yeah, FloJo had some long nails. I don't know how she dressed in the morning. Gail Devers had some long nails too. That's correct; the US had to beat China's time. Canada had the same time, but as someone said upthread, they somehow had the time measured to the 1/1000 of a second, even though the official times are only to 1/100 of a second.
