  1. From The Spoiler Room (Entertainment Weekly):
  2. I hope there's a hidden message in there somewhere. "We get it; from now on there's Ichabbie, and then there's everything else."
  3. "Word Crimes", on the other hand, will never not be awesome.
  4. I don't know about arranged marriages. I could trust my parents, I think - but what about me? When my now-husband and I were just friends, my dad had him pegged as the guy I should be in a relationship with, but he kept his mouth shut. I don't know how I'd have reacted if he had tried to give me advice about it. But obviously he would have picked a good choice for me.
  5. What do people think of Kevin's character on Brothers and Sisters? To my eyes it felt like he had equal time with the other actors when it came to his love life, but I might have had my "straight" blinders on.
  6. Heh. Mark of Mark Watches finally got to the Best of Both Worlds. His reaction is worth reading. Great commentary from posters too; that's one of the main reasons I'm keeping up, actually.
  7. Could Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series be considered alternate history, kind of?
  8. Carter on Person of Interest. Gutted me.
  9. Is this where we talk about Death in Paradise? I like Humphrey Goodman, but I am SO PISSED at how they did the substitution! And after he came back too!
  10. I don't think the show is going there textually. I see where you're going in terms of subtext, and I agree things could be seen that way (although each of the things you mentioned could just as well have a different explanation). While this show is probably not the one to do it (and that's kind of a shame as the chemistry between them is wonderful), I reckon one of these days someone is going to go there in terms of the story. I personally think sexual orientation is more of a dual dimmer switch for two different "male" and "female" lights, and either of them can be positioned on a continuum between on and off. It'd be interesting to see how John would handle an attraction to Sherlock that's at odds with his assumption that his "male" switch is at zero. I do think Sherlock would be more matter of fact and accepting about his own attraction to John.
  11. Interesting how Selena is on the side of the angels (so to speak) in that picture. (And I'm relieved to see Barbara is decidedly not.)
  12. Do puzzles count? I'm not much of a gamer when it comes to electronics (like board games though), but I love the free Griddlers Plus app I downloaded on my Samsung Galaxy Note. Grateful for the stylus there!
  13. I think I eat very boring food compared to all of you!

    Archie

Any chance Betty isn't such a doormat when it comes to Archie in this reboot? I always thought she was a worse role model than Veronica for the way her life revolved around Archie. Which is why I'll be pissed if the reboot turns an unhealthy obsession on her part and a really degrading attitude of "you're enough until I find something better" on his into "true love". Any links to reviews or discussion of the reboot?
  15. I believe Vernon and Petunia Dursley belong in this thread.
  16. I don't think there was anything that hinted at H/H in the books, but I can certainly understand why people shipped them from the movies. The actors have wonderful chemistry. That said, it makes for great friendship chemistry too and I would have resented such a big change from the books.
  17. Something I don't think I've ever seen on TV is a story about a girl who doesn't see the nice guy in front of her who treats her awesomely, eventually realizes that maybe he's worth pursuing, pursues him - and then finds out he's not even remotely interested in dating her, he just has a kind personality. That would be a little something different to see on TV.
  18. I really like the way sorcery worked in the B/M as well; it made a lot of sense and had a lot of internal limits that solved the "just hand wave it away" issue. And I loved how the "wise mentor" trope was upended with Belgarath - he was the wisest man in the world, but also an old fart and a lech and a hedonist and just a lot of fun. And the father-daughter partnership was really unique, I think. And I loved how they pretty much sidestepped the "hero must go on alone" trope altogether - it was true, but only metaphorically.
  19. I read David Eddings' Belgariad, Mallorean, Elenium, and Tamuli series on a regular basis. Yes, the characters are thin (although I still love Belgarath and Polgara), the dialogue gets incredibly trite as the stories wear on, and the plotting starts cheating incredibly as each series wears on. I don't care. They were the first fantasy series I ever read, and I appreciated the world building (which was pretty great and not too riddled with inconsistencies considering they were written over decades) and the down-to-earth feel of the writing, which was perfect for a kid getting her feet wet in this genre. I'll always have a soft spot for it, and it'll always be the equivalent of comfort food for me.
  20. Human Beast looks like Richard Marx. I couldn't get past it. Put me on Team Beast.
  21. EVERYTHING IS AWESOME! EVERYTHING IS COOL WHEN YOU'RE PART OF A TEAM!! EVERYTHING IS AWESOME WHEN WE'RE LIVING OUR DREAM! !!!!!!! *ahem* Carry on.
  22. Voyager fell short in a lot of ways, but in my opinion they had one of the best opening credits of any show ever. I have been known to sit through the teaser of an episode I didn't want to watch just so I could see them, then immediately change the channel.
  23. Could it be more that they're responding to their owners' unconscious fears and beliefs, since the Starks don't trust the Lannisters? Once Jon warmed to Tyrion, so did Ghost, it seemed.
  24. Oh Lord, that drives me nuts too. I also just looooove it when people complain about writers deliberately dumbing down story lines for the audience, then proceed to amply demonstrate why they can't handle anything more subtle than what's already being written.
  25. I wish it could be on the same night as Person of Interest. .. that show is pretty good towards women as well.
