  1. I thought it was excellent. I have been quite meh with the Lead Actors the past few years, and Bradley just gave me a real passionate reason to care about that category again. He was phenomenal. Gaga was terrific, if perhaps not in the same level as Cooper. She established terrific rapport with all of the other characters, not just Cooper. Her rise to fame loses focus here, and we lose her perspective. But she was great in her final sequence. I am sure this movie will get the inevitable backlash. But I will continue to back it. I want the big studios to continuing to make more adult dramas.
  2. First Asian Woman to host since Lucy Liu in 2000. 18 years.
  3. I saw the first episode. It was exhausting. And I found the mom really mean. But I like actors, so I will give it a shot. Also, I like the other 3 NBC sitcoms, and I'm a completist.
  4. Rebecca is such a tragic character. Withdrawn Rebecca reminds me so much of an aunt I had, who never fully came back to life after my uncle passed, even though my special needs cousin was still alive and needed attention. Rebecca has a new life with Miguel, but I wonder if we will ever see Rebecca be as free and happy as when she was with Jack. I am less concerned about whether Mandy can pass certain ages, but I buy her emotional well being in the various Rebecca's she had to play tonight.
  5. I hate anti heroes SO much, if I am supposed to hate them, I will do my best to hate them. Some exceptions: 1. The Principal in The Breakfast Club 2. Sam Niell's character in The Piano 3. Ben Affleck and Parker Posey in Dazed and Confused
  6. I like this show a lot already. I enjoyed that the parents are generally competent and the kids and parents generally don't hate each other. Everyone is enjoyable. The kids are extra in a likeable way. No one is overly mean or trashy.
  7. I loved Matt Keesler too. I had such a crush on him in The Last Days of Disco. I am kinda surprised that there has not been any attempts at a remake of one of John Hughes' films. A Breakfast Club remake would make so much money.
  8. I liked it enough. I hope Grace Park has a bigger part. I like her so much, that it shades how I view the marital affair.
  9. I like Jennifer Love Hewitt and enjoy her on 911.
  10. I think if you are dating someone who just came from a war, I would expect that person to be in a period of significant adjustment. I personally don't think Jack was particularly unusual in that date.
  11. Why would Tess have such a tough time to see her aunt or grandmother? Certainly sad, but Tess is an adult. She should be there more her father, who would be losing either a sister or mother.
  12. I love the show, loved the episode. Nothing on TV moves me more. I too thought about adoption but beyond the show wanting to explore a different avenue of having children, but I wonder if Toby and Kate's weight would make them less likely to qualify? I know little about adoption, so do not know. Do you have to go through health tests? Beth and Zoe's fight was everything.
  13. I will always love Jennifer. The Ghost Whisperer rocks! I will give the character more time.
  14. I really enjoyed it. Has a Timeless type of sensibility. Hopefully, the other passengers will get their Lost moments in the spotlight. I will enjoy the flight.
  15. I cannot remember the last time a romantic movie Oscar frontrunner has NOT received a backlash, whether they win or not. Maybe Sense and Sensibility?
  16. I really liked Love, Simon but I could have loved it if they either removed the Martin character or just made him a straight up villain. Any and all attempts to make him endearing made me angry. The last 30 or so minutes when he pretty much disappears is perfect filmmaking, imo. Places in the Heart is such a beautiful piece, where the central Field Malkovich Glover relationship is so strong. But the Harris Crouse marital affair subplot is so pointless and distracting.
  17. Good Will Hunting. I HATED Matt Damon's character. I generally resent/despise naturally gifted people, who are then burdened by such gifts. Gah. That "How 'bout dem apples" scene had me seething. He is so obnoxious. The same for Ladybird. How she got into an elite east coast school is beyond me.
  18. With the success of Crazy Rich Asians, we can see a few of the actors really break out: Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Awkwafina, Gemma Chan. Gemma seems to be a shoo-in for whatever Bond film that will come out eventually. Henry could work in the Marvel universe. Constance has also shown a character actress side from her Fresh Off the Boat show, so she could lead a few more comedies. Either Constance or Awkwafina should be considered for hosts of the upcoming SNL season.
  19. Yep, it's hot garbage but the last movie may have one of my favourite end credits ever. At the very least, it's the best end credits this decade (the end credits for Call Me By Your Name a close second).
  20. Is La La Land not considered a romantic comedy? I guess it falls under the musical label. We're The Millers and The Help seem to be the BO models for CRA. We're the Millers got to the 150m mark, The Help got to around $175m mark. CRA seems to be doing better than both those movies.
  21. What is Emma's ethnic background? I am not sure if Eric (he's her dad, right?) is Italian but I wouldn't be shocked if someone told me he is. And Julia played a Portuguese character in Mystic Pizza (and I think maybe Wonder?).
  22. They also changed where the mom lived. In the book, it was somewhere in California. In the film, it was Flushing. That is why I assumed Rachel studied in New York, doubt she could afford out of state tuition.
  23. Her father in the movie said he is from Cupertino, so Peik Lin probably has California roots. And she did go to NYC university with Rachel (Rachel works at NYU, cannot recall whether she studied there too). Peik Lin could have been living in Queens.
  24. Also, I think the author has a different interpretation of the character of Peik Lin from the books. I suspect he did that to fit his thesis.
  25. There is also a diversity in the types of characters actors of colour are playing, I feel. Raj, Cookie and Randall are quite different in temperament and character background.
