I really hope they don't bring Jedidiah back. I wrote elsewhere that I wouldn't be surprised if they come up with an arrangement where Ana does 2-3 shows a week and another conservative host (whether completely new to the show or a past co-host) fills out the other days.

When they go back in the studio, Ana won't be in NY 2-3 days a week.

I'd really like to see Jeanine Pirro take McCain's seat. Honestly ! The fireworks on that show every day ? Talk about ratings !

I'd prefer someone who sticks to the truth and has a voice volume of fewer decibels than a jet engine.

EGAD!  I don't know how anyone can stand to LISTEN to Foghorn Pirro. The BLAST of misinformation is ear-splitting.  I completely agree with you, Gemma Violet.  The only time I can enjoy "Jeanine" is when she's parodied on SNL.

WHY can't we meet someone new?  Why recycle the conservative women who have been around and AROUND already?  We've seen 'em.  We've heard 'em.  Bring something fresh and exciting...and someone most can appreciate.

While it's possible she may not want to, it's not, however, impossible for a person to film a couple of days across the country... So you have a right to your opinion, but I don't agree with you.

My first thought was hell no to Jeanine, but my second was we'd get incredible SNL skits! I heard Cecily's leaving, but she'd have to stay if The View hired Jeanine.

That's an excellent idea!  Chelsea would be fantastic.  She is mature, wellspoken and educated.  Would she still be considered Millennial? Oh bother, doesnt matter anyway heh.  She would bring a fresh air to the place with a viewpoint of someone who actually grew up in the WH snerk

I disagree that they have to represent every part of the political spectrum.  I hate that the show has contributed to the binary view of every single news item.

Though the show has recently done extensive coverage of political issues, I disagree with the premise that it is a show for political discussion ONLY.  I hope they go back to the original premise - women from different age groups, ethnic backgrounds, and experiences, talking about issues that concern women.  There are a lot of issues that cannot and should not be reduced to conservative viewpoint vs liberal viewpoint.  Women can have their own OPINIONS on topics that don't reflect the political party they last voted for.

I miss the old days of the show, but if it's going to remain so political, I would personally appreciate a diversity of views.

It would be great if The View went back to its original premise. It's true that women have opinions on so many things that have nothing to do with their politics. Meghan almost seemed like she liked to play up the stereotype of a conservative woman, but whatever our politics, we're not all a bunch of caricatures. There are liberal, feminist women who are very traditional, stay at home moms, have family values, etc. There are republican women who don't believe in the nuclear family, don't all love guns, some are atheists, some are part of the LGBT+ community, etc. Even The View seems to prefer a certain type of conservative woman. She's usually a white, blonde Christian who fits into the stereotype. Meghan thought she was so cool and edgy just because she takes up for the gay community. Just because you're not no cakes for gays Candace doesn't mean you're special Meghan.

I was listening today to an interview with the head of the London School of Economics on post pandemic recovery. She was talking about leave for new parents in Iceland. Mothers get 4 months, fathers get 4 months and 4 months goes to either. If fathers don't take their leave, it's lost.

And it occurred to me that that is the kind of discussion I'd be interested in watching on The View: is forced paternal leave going to help raise the status of taking care of children (harkening back to the breast feeding discussion earlier this week) and should governments be manipulating this way even if it works?

I have zero interest in the kind of pre-packaged political talking points that Meghan has been presenting.

YES! More topics like this please. This show's appeal was that it was for women. It wasn't supposed to be all politics. There are so many real life topics that affect women. The options are not politics and Kardashian. Now that Meghan's leaving, maybe we can get more life topics. She'd often say "I don't care. I have nothing to say. I'm bored with this topic." I hope the next host is happy to talk about anything.

The View follows Fox News with that assumption.  They both seem to think that is the definition of female conservative.

I think the View does need a younger cohost.  Preferable single.  That point of view is missing from the panel.  Topics such as reproductive rights and climate change and anything financial is going to affect a younger woman in a different way.

Knowing the View they will probably want someone with name recognition but I would like to see them hire someone who would be good at the job. And someone who knows what their job is and not someone who proclaims themselve's something just because they think they are something.

I've heard some people online laugh that we might end up with Tomi Lahren, but tbh, I think any random conservative, including her, would be an improvement on McCain. Tomi Lahren's had one appearance on The View before, and it actually was an example of what you described above (that no person is a caricature of party politics). I think Joy went at her about hypocrisy of wanting the government not to regulate guns, but being fine with wanting them to regulate a woman's right to choose. Lahren agreed with Joy and said at least she'll be consistent in saying that she didn't want the government involved with her guns or her body. She actually got suspended by some show she was working on at FOX (run by Glenn Beck) because of that opinion she gave on The View... That's why when people like McCain or those in the media try to insinuate that The View is some kind of oppressive liberal platform, I laugh because The View has never suspended conservative co-hosts simply for an opinion like that before. Whether or not another co-host on this show who disagrees may counter that opinion is another story, but everyone's at least given free reign to say whatever they choose on this show.

Besides, unless they have a famous father with friends at the top, nobody could ever cause as many problems as McCain did and be coddle to the same degree. Anyone else will face consequences much sooner than she did.

Fox seemed like they tried to draw in a male audience. The hosts tend to be pretty, and I remember they used to dress provocatively. I think they've dialed it back, but not entirely sure. Isn't The View audience mostly women? We could do just fine without a cute blonde conservative, but maybe they often pick them to draw in male viewers.

YES! As a single woman younger than all the hosts, I'd love to have a single woman who's a millennial. In addition to the subjects you mentioned, none of the current hosts can discuss what it's like dating right now.

They usually do that at the end of a season we they already know they're letting someone go. The only person they've been doing that with this year is Ana, whose been on much more than usual the past month and a half. Either she'll go full-time or they already have a specific person in mind. They did do several trial discussions BTS when Rosie came back the 2nd time; S.E. Cupp got knocked out of the running that way.

That's when I came back, but it was Jedediah interrupting everyone mid-sentence that made me watch less and less. It was exasperating to never hear a complete thought.  Little did I know there could be someone worse than that.  I actually enjoy political discussions where everyone follows the normal rules of conversation, where everyone gets a chance to concisely state their view and give everyone else a chance to speak. No screaming, no ranting, no interrupting. Listen.  You can actually learn why someone holds their opinion if you listen instead of focusing on sharpening your filet knife while others are speaking. Most issues aren't black and white; there are shades of grey and nuance to different situations.

Glad I'm not the only one who didn't like her. I think the thing that rubbed me wrong the most about her though was that, imo at least, she was a liar. I don't mean that she lied about the topics (which is something that often happens when people argue politics on any show), but to me she lied about herself because she thought it would make it more likely viewers would listen to the things she was saying if she acted like she was an unbiased spectator with no real motive in the political discussions.

The person I'd like to see take over Meghan's seat would be someone who has never been on the panel before. The only exception would be Meredith, but then that would mean Whoopi would have to leave, and chances of that happening are slim to none ☹️

One conservative voice I would love for them to hire on the show is former FOX host Gretchen Carlson. She's been a guest and guest host a few times in the past four years (since her lawsuit against FOX) and she's rather enjoyable. She may have a tendency to be too passive (and end up like Candace, Paula and Jed on the show), but I'm hoping she'd be more aggressive with the others.

In any event. I don't think they're going to rush to fill the seat before September. They have the four of them in place now (Sara's staying) and Ana as the spare - so they really don't need to fill McCain's chair right away.

I didn't watch the View when Debbie was a cohost because my local ABC station didn't carry the View at that time.  I did watch Debbie after she left on an entertainment news show and I liked  her.  She seemed nice and likable.  I would have no problem with her coming back to the View but she seems to fill the same role as Sara.

I think this would be very weird, if true—and I’m definitely leaning towards “not true.” The only thing I could take from it, if there is anything there, is that the new ABC president is looking back at The View’s history and wants to go back to what the show was about with the original panel being mostly accomplished women who seemed like real friends and could have rational conversations about everything (of which Joy and Matenopoulos were a part). I wouldn’t say no to that at all, but, while I think Debbie is better now than she was back then, still a weird choice even if that actually was the direction they wanted to go in. If they wanted to go back to the vibe of the show when it began, it would probably be better to make Ana full-time as McCain’s replacement or (if she didn't want to do that) bring someone mild-mannered and intelligent like Star, Meredith, or Lisa (who came on in the third season) back.

I don’t know, maybe it is possible? If The View not even getting nominated for awards for the first time is a part of McCain leaving (and I think it did play a factor, in part because McCain said something about how they should’ve won a Pulitzer Prize or something in her goodbye speech, which seemed pretty random if the lack of awards hadn’t been mentioned to her when she was let go), then… Perhaps they think going back to the show’s roots would get them more awards favor since McCain turning the show into Jerry Springer clearly lost them a lot of respect? Who knows. I still lean towards unlikely, but I suppose there’s a slim possibility the show could be looking into doing something like that.

The show and the cohosts were almost always nominated each year with a few exceptions. Joy used to say they never won for hosting because there was always someone on the panel people hated.   They only won once for hosting. In 2008. It was the year Whoopi and Sherri joined the View.  But for them to not even be nominated?  Yikes.

There's also this I noticed, only mentioned at the top of the article and not in the article itself:

Quote

The source also hinted that another host may be exiting

'There may be another change coming that we need to plan for and Debbie would be the perfect fit for our anniversary season,' they said

Maybe this is the debunked Sara rumor raising its head again? If Joy was leaving, I can tell you there is no way Matenopolous could fill her shoes in any universe if they're thinking simply someone from the first season like Joy would be adequate enough to be Joy's replacement; nobody would stick with the show for Matenopolous the way they have for Joy. I think Whoopi and Rosie are the only other co-hosts who have displayed that same kind of fanbase where there are a sizable number of viewers who likely tuned in simply to see them and nobody else, and tuned out when they've gone or would tune out if they ever left in Whoopi's case (I don't count myself as one of those Whoopi fans, but I do think it's true). I could possibly see Matenopolous in Sara's seat though, which is why I think this is the lie about Sara again.

That said, there's been a lot of false stuff in the press around The View the past week that I think is all coming from McCain, tbh. Since she joined the show, I could tell she had a lot of control over media that felt really weird, like maybe she was calling in family favors at different outlets all over the place. This is probably just an attempt by her to cause drama for the show and the other co-hosts (making them think they may be about to get the ax) on her way out, the same way she tried to insinuate Sunny was leaking in an attempt to get her fired through "sources" a year ago or that article that sounded like it could've been McCain herself writing about how unfair it was Whoopi got an invite to the White House over COVID and McCain didn't. Which, really, is what I always expected to happen whenever she would go.

I thought that as well.  A permanent seat at that table is always crazy sought after whenever someone leaves.  If Sara is leaving I don't know why ABC wouldn't just announce it since Wendy Williams possibly let the cat out of the bag.  If she is leaving and they announce the end of the month when they go dark for the summer it makes them look stupid.

But it being the 25th anniversary next year does lend some credibility to the idea they might be looking at bringing someone from those early years back as part of a year-long "celebration." I so wish Meredith would come back although I don't think she'd want to (and even if she did Whoopi's already there as moderator which means there would end up having to be a conflict somewhere and Meredith wouldn't want that either). Love Lisa, too but probably wouldn't be interested in coming back either and Star would be way too similar to Sunny for them both to be there even if she was interested. So Matenopolous may be the one they're looking at after the process of elimination.

On the other hand, if the idea of them trying to re-capture what the show was really like is wrong, then they could use that 25th anniversary excuse as a way to justify Elisabeth's return, too, I suppose, if they're thinking of that. (And they did ask Elisabeth back two years ago as a way to ditch McCain, I believe, but she turned it down although she then guested in the next season for the first time since she left almost as if she might be re-considering the offer.) That's in the case they simply want to put an argumentative conservative in McCain's seat, only one who can mostly argue about the *topic* and allow the other sides to be heard instead of making everything personal, screaming so that nobody can counter, or throwing a fit over when they take commercial breaks.

Matenopolous has responded to the press about her:

https://www.etonline.com/debbie-matenopoulos-spokesperson-responds-to-report-shes-returning-to-the-view-168622

She doesn’t say it’s false because I’m sure she would be open to a well-paying job like this one again if ABC ever wanted her, but her statement sort of says to me she was only in talks to maybe show up several times (maybe guest host) as part of the 25th tagline they’ll probably talk about all season. Could be a source found out she’d had contact with ABC and wrongly assumed more co-host departures could be the meaning.

I’m glad she’ll be showing up again as part of looking back at the show's history though, even if it’s not as anything more than a guest or guest co-host. I loved that day back in November 2016 when all the original hosts returned one-day only. That was really nice.

Anyway, I also saw this at the same time:

https://www.deseret.com/2021/7/9/22568801/caitlyn-jenner-abby-huntsman-who-will-the-view-choose-to-replace-meghan-mccain-conservative-politics

If ABC is smart and Abby were willing, Abby returning to the show would be the best counter the network could think of to all the dirt McCain’s camp is trying to stir up in the press about how she was persecuted by all the evil liberals, since Abby (conservative) left the show because of McCain being so toxic, not the liberal hosts. Even this article itself sounds like it came from the same pro-McCain camp to me because it pushes Bari Weiss and S.E. Cupp (both friends of McCain) as well as her always-the-victim narrative by saying they would never have two conservatives on their show. Um...they had two on with Abby and Meghan? They even had three at one point when Jedidiah, Paula, and Candace were all on the show at the same time.

I do wonder if Sara will be more of a part-time host next season. She’s doing well on The Chase and ABC might want to use her for other things, so maybe she won’t be available all the time to appear on The View once they return to the studio.

I am confused, so is Nutmeg trashing the ladies via her minions.  This bitch does not know what being on code means..  I remember Jedidiah was back on foxnews and they were goading her to trash the ladies and she refused to do it.  She said that she loves being exposed to views that differed from hers. It was diplomatic and professional. You never know what could happen in life..  Why create enemies for no reason and till this day Sunny and Sarah have maintained friendships with her, people can love and interact with people who do not vote like them.  I absolutely loved the Paula/Joy friendship on the show..

Well, it won't be Jerry O' Connell replacing McCain. He was officially announced today as being Sharon's replacement on 'The Talk'. I guess 'The Talk' just wants to remain in last place at this point, and be done with it.

Good news is - O'Connell won't be a regular fill-in guest on 'The View' any longer. Actually, that's great news.

The View briefly considered adding a male co-host some years back (I think that guy from American Pie was one of the contenders). Thank God that never happened. The Talk really messed up picking a man... There's nothing wrong with having a mixed-sex talkshow in daytime or anything, but taking a show that was specifically intended for only women and adding a guy is a jump-the-shark decision, imo. Which I don't really care about them anyway (and them eventually getting cancelled will be better for The View because they'll never have to deal with being compared to that copycat wannabe again!), but The Talk had potential to be a decent show for the first time after finally getting rid of Osbourne. Oh, well. The View and The Real for that matter were always better than it.

Oh hell no! Damn it, I've said all along almost anyone would be an upgrade. They better not pick one of the few people who's not. I also prefer Meghan.
