I don't dislike him, but he leaves me cold. Physically, I find him kind of scary-looking. His teeth and jaw look so carnivorous. And Duff has much better dad jokes on Kids Baking.

I like him and I don’t blame him for the corny jokes since he doesn’t write them.

I do find it amusing how different he has to be for his three main jobs:  cheery and supportive with bad dad jokes here, sincere and supportive on the various Bachelor shows, and authoritative and quick thinking commentating on college football games.

The problem I had with this episode is the same problem I have with all the baking championship shows. They give a few bakers a lot of screen time and then give the other bakers very little screen time. That doesn't seem fair.

By the time they got to the judges' tasting the desserts, I was surprised by how many "new" faces I was seeing.

Who is coming up with these flavors? Beets and pancetta on a cake? I'm sorry that's gross.

So far this season, I think has really sucked. Doing these theme shows, like Minecraft, makes this show nothing but one long commercial, which I find irritating. And I think these bakers leave a lot to be desired in the talent part. Their cakes are messy. The decorations are pretty darn bad.  These bakers look like they barely bake anything and they definitely are not good at decorating.

How about Nancy’s hair tonight?!?!?  Does she look like one of the game’s characters?  If so, she is a trouper.

I was wondering about her hair!  On a quick, side eyed first glance I thought Anne Burrell was there!  It does not favor Nancy at all. I hadn't thought about it being part of the "Minecraft" theme. I know nothing about Minecraft.

(I watched part of last weeks episode right before the new episode, the two bakers on the bottom must have really screwed up for Mary-Frances not to get booted after giving the judges two dishes in a row that were very tart)

S11.E02 “The Magical World of Minecraft”     New,  3/17/2025

“Jesse Palmer challenges the 12 remaining bakers to make Minecraft-inspired square fruit entremets, each using an assigned fruit to create perfectly geometric, visually striking desserts. Then, the competitors team up to bring the blocky, adventurous world of "A Minecraft Movie" to life by designing landscape cakes, with one baker representing the Overworld and the other the Netherworld with unique flavors. To tie it all together for judges Duff Goldman, Kardea Brown and Nancy Fuller, the teams must connect their worlds with an edible portal that bridges the two realms in both design and taste.”

12 remaining bakers:

Jon’nae  "Chef J"- Atlanta. Does catering for life events

Priya -Calgary, Alberta  Her chocolate desserts are beautiful. Chocolatier and pastry chef (Looks like Mindy Kaling)

Kareem -Brooklyn  Learned from grandpa and You Tube, has bakery.

Julian - Sacramento  Newlywed and pastry chef, lovely desserts.

Corey -Washington, D.C. Wants Nancy to be so happy she conducts music. (She did on the first episode)

Jamie-San Mateo CA. Grew up in Hawai'i, loves tropical flavors.  Cake business.

Raveena Oberol-Vancouver, B.C. (Judge on Wall of Bakers) Made her own wedding cake, opened first storefront at 22.

Kari -San Diego.  Seven years clean and sober.

Lisa -Boston. Catering company chef.

Paul Feybesse-Bay Area (wife Monique was on Top Chef, Season 19, Houston) Co-owns two bakeries. Trained as a savory chef.

Mary-Frances-Calgary, Alberta.  Culinary instructor.

Stacy -New Jersey. Pastry chef, loves Duff.

Preheat challenge: Minecraft-inspired square fruit entremets.  The mirror glaze entremets look lovely.  I'm worried for Jon'nae, her dessert is a total failure, Stacy is very behind too. Kareem's is not going to work either.   Jon'nae's failed, not glazed at all.  Paul's looks lovely, but the judges are so much more critical of the European contestants.  Stacy's looks nothing like and entremet.

On a tacky note, what the hell did they do to Nancy's hair?

Top Two:  Priya and Lisa

Winner:   Lisa (receives a gift basket of $250 in shopping dollars to buy items in the shop.)

Elimination Challenge: competitors team up to bring the world of "A Minecraft Movie" to life by designing landscape cakes, with one baker representing the Overworld and the other the Netherworld with unique flavors. To tie it all together for judges, the teams must connect their worlds with an edible portal that bridges the two realms in both design and taste.

Sadly, some of these desserts look awful.

Julian/Raveena-Did a great job. Julian did great sugar work. Lack of flavor in both cakes.

Lisa/Cory-nice decorating. Fits the theme.  Flavors are great.

Jon'nae/Stacy-Stacy's look lik it's sinking in the middle.  Decorating in nice. Flavors are good for Stacy, Jon'nae good flavors but a little dry.

Mary-Frances/Kari- decorating is OK for Mary-Francis but not overworld, Kari did a better decorating job.   Flavors are great for Kari, Mary-Frances flavor is lacking.  Portal is wrong.

Paul/Jamie-Decorating for Paul is great, and innovative.  Jamie's is lumpy and crooked, and her fondant fell off at the judging, and her airbrushing is awful.    Taste is  great for Paul, Jamie's flavor is good, but cake is too dense

Kareem/Priya-Decorating for Kareem is awful, Priya's is equally lackluster.  They don't fit the them for the Netherworld.  Taste is good for Kareem, Priya's lacks flavor.

Top Two:  Corey and Lisa

Winner: Corey

Bottom Four:  Paul and Jamie, Kareem and Priya

Bottom Two:  Jamie and Paul

Eliminated: Jamie

I get frustrated with the bakers when they begin to list everything they are going to include in a bake that would need to be twice as long to make it a success for 99% of them.  Good grief!  If I tried to make a cake with 7 or 8 elements and flavors, it would be an 8 hours challenge for me.  I also sometimes have a problem with the many flavors they combine in one bake.  I guess I'm a simple person to please when it comes to flavors.  Just give me chocolate cake, with chocolate fudge icing and call it a day.

In Nancy Fuller's warped imagination does she think she's Guy Fieri's mother, sister, or child?  Whichever it is, she's way too old to be able to pull off that "look".  If no-one in her entourage or family can help her see that, then I really feel sorry for her.

It might not have been completely her choice.

I really don’t understand Kareem’s thought process on making a green “underworld” cake. They were clearly given a brief with the appropriate colors. He’s over his head ok skills, but this was just a weird decision that had nothing to do with his baking skills.

I agree, I see him gone next week. He got lucky that fondant fell off the cake Jamie made.

I went into this episode already annoyed because I think the Minecraft movie looks awful and its stupid commercials are all over the place, so I was already rolling my eyes going into this and the episode itself didn't do much to change my mind. This was such cringe product placement, which I know that they do every year but this was particularly egregious. At least with most of their obvious commercial tie ins they usually have something to do with the theme, like the Disney Cruise in summer, but what the hell is the connection to spring from Minecraft? Farming?

These cakes were not the best, probably because the theme sucked and even the best bakers were struggling. Even the winning cakes weren't as great as they could have been without the dumb theme, through no fault of Corey and Lisa, who did great with what they had. I didn't really notice Lisa in the first episode, but I liked her here.

Jamie seems nice but the right person went home. I feel bad that Paul got dinged because he kept stopping to help her, which was really nice of him and I hope the judges noticed.

That is the thing, usually the movie or theme is close enough to what the show is about. Minecraft has nothing to do with spring unless I'm missing something. I this was one of the worst movie tie ins they have had.

And did you notice Marie Francis (is that her name?) had flowers on hers and it was too baby shower. Flowers are springy!

I didn't get it either.  I also didn't understand why Priya didn't set him straight as they were going to be judged together.  Maybe she's just too nice.

The other thing I didn't get was the portals.  I don't know what they look like in Minecraft but they didn't look like much to me.  It seems like a portal should connect the two locations or there should be identical portals, one on each side - an exit and entrance so to speak.  Most of them just looked like an arch slapped on.

I like Priya, Corey and Julian even though his awful haircut is a distraction.

I don't have anything against Paul but he didn't help his partner to save her - he helped his partner because as a team they were in danger together - he pretty much said as much.  He actually finished his cake (and he should have gone back and done some clean-up on it) with plenty of time to spare so he did help his partner but I honestly don't think it was altruistic.  He did a lot of eye rolling and is lucky he was paired with a person whose presentation was significantly worse than his.

I don't know what was going on with Prya, who has been excellent in previous challenges.  Perhaps she was thrown off by being paired with Kareem, who while being a really nice person is way out of his league in this competition.  Seems like she did her thing and he did his thing and they didn't even try and connect together.  I noticed during the show that they didn't show the two of them very much and focused on the other couples.  I figured they were going to be in danger simply because of that.

I would have been lost, having never watched anything to do with Mimecraft or Mimecast or whatever it is.

A bunch of thoughts! I think Duff or another baker should have to make the assigned cake in the given time before they decide to use a challenge. There is no way someone could make a legit Minecraft cake in the time given and it showed in ALL of the cakes. If they had to do Minecraft, then why not have pairs make one cake? And I expected the portal to be something that would connect the cakes, more like a tunnel. So far, I like the bakers. They seem like a nice bunch. And kudos to Nancy for rocking the Minecraft hairstyle! Unpopular opinion here, but I like Nancy! In my previous post, I said the set seemed like fall, now I'm thinking it seems like Halloween with the dark gray streaked walls. Maybe I just need something light and cheery!
