Arrow Stars in Other Roles

The A.V. Club has an article on Caity Lotz's movie The Machine with the title "Arrow's Black Canary Plays the Terminator of an Inventive Sci-Fi Indie."

I actually clicked on it thinking it was a new role for Katie Cassidy.

Here's the news article about Rila Fukushima being cast in a pilot for NBC. http://deadline.com/2015/02/rila-fukushima-cast-warrior-peter-gerety-sneaky-pete-1201380854/

Rila Fukushima (The Wolverine) has been cast in Warrior, NBC’s magical martial arts drama pilot written/executive produced by David DiGilio, directed by Phillip Noyce and executive produced by Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. Set in a grounded, contemporary multicultural and sometimes magical milieu, Warrior, from Universal TV, centers on Kai Forrester (Natalie Martinez), a damaged heroine who works undercover with physical and spiritual guidance from a mysterious martial arts master to bring down an international crime lord. Fukushima. repped by ICM, Seven Summits and Sloane, Offer, Webber and Dern, will play Tasu, Koto’s daughter. In reality, she lies in a coma in her dad’s apartment, but she appears to Kai (Martinez) in her dreams or when she’s unconscious. Fukushima recurs on Arrow and also will be seen on Game Of Thrones.

Here is the link to an article about SA´s new movie project. So far, we don´t know what he is up to. Do you have any suggestions/ speculations?

http://comicbook.com/2015/03/19/stephen-amell-is-watching-avengers-phase-1-as-homework-for-a-mov/

"I'm circling a movie -- that's not a Marvel movie; I don't want to allude to anything or establish any rumors," Amell said (as recorded by fans on YouTube), but I'm circling a movie and as homework for myself, this is one of the things I do, I'm rewatching all of Phase One of Marvel, culminating with The Avengers which I'm halfway through and excited to finish. I've seen it fifteen times." (SA quote)

ETA If SA doesn´t want to establish any rumors... why does he mention this project at all? Wouldn´t it have been more reasonable for him to keep silent about the whole thing until he can officially announce the movie and the part he is going to play in it?

Well, isn´t Ryan Reynolds casted as the protagonist of the Deadpool movie?

I thought so from reading this: http://screenrant.com/deadpool-movie-ryan-reynolds-thanks-fans/

What I don´t understand: What´s the point in watching Marvel movies if you are not going to play the part of a Marvel carácter? Are there any other non-Marvel and non-DC superheros that bear resemblences to "Phase One" Marvel characters? (I´m not a comic specialist at all.)

Yes, but as calliope mentioned, Deadpool is a Marvel Comic Character but film rites are owned by FOX. Technically it's not a Marvel movie but someone from Marvel comics. That's why I said better not be Deadpool.

Unless he's going to do VO work for a Marvel Carton or star in a FOX/Sony owned Marvel Comic Character Movie I don't see why he'd specify studying the MCU while not being in a Marvel movie.

So I'm left with Deadpool or X-Men since both are currently filming.

I doubt it's anything currently filming unless they scheduled around him and can wait to film his scenes for another month until Arrow wraps. And I don't think they'd be willing to plot out their filming schedule just for him when he'd obviously not be the lead (at least not in the things we're talking about here).

It also doesn't sound like he's actually been cast? Or the movie hasn't been greenlit? So it's possible that he's just trying to nail some sort of tone that he feels Movie X has that is comparable to the Marvel movies. I hope whatever it is works out for him (and fits right into the summer hiatus, because I don't want more Oliver-lite or Oliver-free episodes of Arrow).

Maybe DC changed its mind about integrating the DC Cinematic and TV Universes? Was Agents of SHIELD part of Marvel's Phase One? Perhaps, they're trying to see how they can add SA, GG, or Melissa Benoist into the Justice League movie. SA/Oliver might get a little cameo or something.

The only other franchise I can think of that is sort of trying to duplicate Marvel's cinematic universe is Ghostbusters. Didn't they say were releasing an all-dude team of that after the vile reactions to the all-female Ghostbusters (such an A-list cast of ladies!) one from Paul Feig? That would be hilarious if SA was talking about being cast in that all-bro movie. Unfortunately, even if SA gets cast, I probably won't watch it.

I don't remember her from Glee but I'm glad she's getting work. Between Arrow and The Killing I think she's a really good actress. I'm excited for the Scream show she's going to be in even if a part of me wants to see her on Arrow again. Now that Thea and Roy have training Teen Arrow should reunite!

So that makes Cooper, Barry, Sin and Donna who were all on Glee. Hu. Arrow really does need to do a musical episode.

The just need to do a musical extravaganza crossover with the Flash. Jesse L Martin (his voice is amazing, just listen to Rent) & Tom Cavanagh both have musical experience. If they're able to secure Victor Garber he is also a song & dance man. According to Facebook interviews both SA & PB also have musical theater experience (SA was in high school, but still it counts - plus hes the brooding arrow how many lines can they really make him sing?)  It would be so much fun. They can make one part sad & depressing yet inspirational like Les Mis on Arrow & then the other one can be more uplifting & happy on Flash. So I guess it would all depend on which way the plot needs to go to determine which one we start out on.

This. The first time I saw Rent was when it was still in previews starring JLM, Adam Pascal, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs and it was amazing. Also got to work with JLM on a TV special commemorating the 25th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and he is a really nice, humble guy with a great sense of humor.

From what little I've heard of SA's singing during several con appearances, he has a pretty good voice, although I assume he was kidding when he said this:

I recall him saying that he was a decent singer, although not as good as Colin Donnell, but I also seem to remember him saying that there would never be a musical Arrow ep if he had anything to do with it. Or maybe it was if there ever were a musical Arrow ep he wouldn't take part? Can't remember exactly.

Came across this snippet of SA singing on Lego Batman 3 (starts at 0:39). I think he did a better job with The Little Mermaid and Kenny Rogers.

He also nailed the jeopardy theme song better on his facebook. But see there is a precedent of him singing on Arrow :)

Well if we can secure Colin Donnell for a guest appearance there's no reason why the musical can't be part of a flashback/dream sequence too - the  more the merrier.

Late last night I put it together that she was Marley from Glee. I knew she looked familiar I just never placed her.

...Does Greg Berlanti get a discount on Glee actors or something?? (kidding of course).

Glee and Prison Break.

Season Six Buffy could give Oliver a run in the brooding/angsty department, but she sang quite a bit, too.

Anyway, I really doubt these writers can make a musical episode work. Few can. No musical episode I've seen has come even close to Once More With Feeling, that's for sure.

I've never watched Glee, but considering it has had a pretty long run and cast a lot of young unknowns throughout it, it's really no surprise to see some of them in other projects.

I'm not surprised to see them in other projects, it's just the amount of them that are showing up on Arrow. But i think the biggest shocker was seeing BTK/Sin on Glee last night. Because it was completely random and only for one scene.

I'm still bitter there was no "they all broke out of prison together" joke for all of the Prison Break characters. It would have been so easy to make too considering the amount of criminals that have broken out of Iron Heights.

I've started a rewatch of the X-Files in anticipation of new episodes (!!) next year. In "Space," Susanna Thompson works for NASA in the space shuttle program. Not a great episode, but it made me sad not to see ST on Arrow any more.

Oh, so that's the big franchise role he's been so secretive about? Good for SA. I might not be fond of Michael Bay but I can't deny that his film should give SA really good exposure, at least. SA should be used to sharing screen time with "turtle"-like beings, anyway. He's had good practice with Arrow's own red ninja turtle (sorry, Roy! I actually like you a lot now!).

Good for him.  He's not a main character, so if it flops it doesn't hurt him.  I won't be watching it (although I think Megan Fox is absolutely gorgeous, even if not a great actress), but good for him.

I wonder if he was watching the Marvel movies to get a feel for how the actors reacted to green screen characters.  The Avengers would be about the team collaboration feel too.

I'm glad he got a part in movie that probably will do well at the box office (even if I won't go near it)    It can't be much worse than the Transformer's series.  They get terrible reviews (deservedly) and still rake in the cash.

The most recent one had some well respected actors too.  Honestly, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammar and even Mark Wahlberg's acting was perfectly fine.  Actually in a different movie Tucci and Grammar probably would have received praise but the editing and storyline is so godawful. Way, way, better than Transformer's 3 but  that's still not saying much.   (I literally just watched the new one today - hey, it was on a free preview channel and I liked Optimas Prime as a kid, but I won't give Michael Bay my money.)

A quick question for all the TMNT experts out there :-) Is Casey Jones going to be a supporting character or a main character in TMNT2? Has SA hit something like a lead role or is he only going to be in some parts of the movie?

I ask because I don´t know anything about TMNT cartoons or movies (shame on me..., but probably I´m simply too old, I grew up with other cartoons), and I´d like to understand better how big of an accomplishment it is for SA to have been cast as Casey Jones.

Besides, if SA´s role in TMNT2 is very important and he is going to have many shooting days for this movie, how will this affect "Arrow"? I´m a little afraid of the show turning into some kind of ensemble show ("Justice league light") with Oliver Queen/ The Arrow absent in a bigger number of episodes.
