I don’t get it. Fernanda tells Jon’s mom that he’s everything she wants in a man. Then she tells him he’s selfish, thoughtless and cruel. When he’s buying her stuff and escorting her around town, going to the gym and having everyone look at her and Jon, the glamorous beautiful couple everything is swell. He works long hours to make a decent living and he seems pretty generous. Yes it is boring to be home alone for long periods of time day after day, but that’s his lifestyle, she’s been with him long enough to know it. He’s given her a car and that offers her some freedom, he doesn’t have her locked up in a tower.

If she’s mature enough to get married, she should be mature enough to figure out how to fill the time that she is alone. It’s not forever, just til the green card is approved. She and Jon  both argue that she is indeed mature enough to leave her family and home to marry and start a new life in the US, but as soon as she’s no longer the center of attention and Jon’s universe, she flips out and becomes an hysterical mess.

I find it so amusing that Leida and Larissa and Fernanda and many of the participants on these shows complain that they’ve been lied to, deceived, treated badly, disrespected etc by their partner and are so unhappy and homesick, yet when it’s suggested that they return home to their motherland, irs all “oh, I can’t, I love him/her!!!”  How do you love someone who makes you feel so miserable ?

I agree.  I feel like you can always find something to do if you make the effort.  I would take an online class if I were her since I'm assuming that she will want a job once she has a green card.  There is so much you can do online today.  Or maybe she can learn a new hobby- knitting, painting, yoga, whatever.  I'm an introvert so I thrive on time at home!

I think it was the first episode when he is listing off the stuff he had paid for.  Naturally "boobies" were of great importance, but he mentioned the Jeep, her rent and her tuition.

Does anybody know what Kalani is referring to when she tells Asuelu (and she has, several times) that she helped *his* family so much.  I mean, in addition to defying her father and taking her baby to let its father's family look at it.

I am a houseflipper so I buy and sell my own houses to save on paying commissions. But I choose not to sell on behalf of others.

Can you clarify what selling on behalf of others is?  Because this is the post I was responding to:

Normally it is the man with a betrothed fiance back in the old country in effect buying aiding the new extended family even before the legal marriage.  We do know that she was able to afford multiple international trips and probably pay for her husband to come to America along with the government fees  some how. While he hasn't talked about helping his brothers and sisters back home like another resort spouse from Jamaica did in an earlier season she has probably been sending a stipend which has gone to his extended family while waiting for the consulate to approve his entry visa.

She has friends, Jon  said she spends hours on the phone with them., spend another hour or two, I’m sure she can find lots to complain about.

Cant she go to the library? Read magazines, books etc. sit in the park and people watch? Go to Starbucks and kill time, there are always people there to speak to.

Maybe Jon can register for online classes for her to take (under his name). I would think as long as the classes don’t count towards a degree  or have college credits, it wouldn’t be illegal.

Its her immaturity that becomes so obvious in these situations. Carrying on like she did will drive Jon away, he’ll spend more and more time “at work” ( which reflects on his maturity also) to avoid the inevitable fight.

Same here.

I'm kind of surprised by the number of people that seem to think she should be able to contend easily with being housebound.  Yes, you can take online classes.  Yes, you can clean.  Yes, you can bingewatch Netflix.  Yes, you could Uber somewhere, provided your fiance is okay with paying the tab for that.  She's essentially housebound in a foreign country with no friends here, all at the age of 19 when being housebound is the last thing you want to do.

At 51, I go stir crazy working from home 7 days a week.  I can keep myself busy with work, but it is isolating being all by yourself on a routine basis  -- and I have the means to get out of the house.  And with Fernanda and others, it's a 3 month process.  It's not a week we're talking about.  She's not staying at a luxury resort where there is plenty to do in walking distance.  And she doesn't have a endless budget to do fun things during this 3 month process.  Is it really too much to ask of her mate to be spend that time with her on the off hours?  Or maybe be more courteous and invite her out w/his friends?  I understand his need for solo time but could he not have met the friend for lunch?  While she speaks the language well, it's still her foreign tongue.  Her friends are not local.  There's an age gap with his friends.

Did she overreact?  Likely.  But I think she's going stir crazy and this was just one more example of his thoughtlessness.

I thought Luis was a real fucking turd, but I had a twinge of feeling sorry for him b/c he was also pretty much housebound in Molly's house -- and she basically expected him to babysit the kids.

You can fill your days with activities; you can talk on the phone with your friends.  But the need for real human interaction, in person, is really huge.  And for now, she has no real friends in the area.  It would be nice if Jon would come get her for lunch during the day just to get her out.

You need a student visa to come here as a student. You also need to prove you can support a spouse to get a spousal visa. Just marrying a foreigner does not guarantee you can get any long term visa. I dont think Steven would even qualify to  have Olga stay here in the USA. He may need to get someone else to help sponsor her. Other 90 day fiance people have had to get other co sponsers. I think maybe Danielle asked her father?

So, I get that if you're a college student whose only reason for coming to the us is to study.  But is this true if you're just here for another reason, like a k1 visa?  I do not want to get political but how do the daca recipients take classes?*

You cant study or work on a K1.. As soon as you marry you appy to change your sttus to some sort of resident. DACA is a whole different issue. They didnt come in on a visa. They were brought here illegally, through no fault of their own as children. They have spent most of their lives here. DACA defers their deportation

Very true. Making a living selling real estate is tough. But all you need a few good sells and you can make your income for the year.

DACA, and anyone here illegally, can take classes. You just can't get any type of student loan or aid. My husband's sister and brother both went to college in DACA status. They had to pay full price so they went to community colleges part time. People here illegally can go to college. It's just unlikely that illegals have the money to do so, and if they do, they risk not being able to use it due to their inability to work legally. You can use a taxpayer ID instead of a SSN.

So I finally finished this episode and have a few observations.

1. Larissa’s argument with Colt was ridiculous and I can’t believe I’m defending him but he was right when he called her batshit crazy.  She’s also at fault for the lack of compliments and is proof of why you should probably tone it down every day.  She fussed about taking 2 hours to get ready, but she looked the same way she always does because she’s always all glammed up.  If you walk around in full make up, lashes, hair done, and club clothing, then no one will notice when you dress up to go out.  It’s the norm, nothing special.

2. Here’s how the conversation between Tania and Leida should have gone:

Leida: Hey

Tania: You must want to die.

Leida: What? What are you talking about?

Tania: You must want to die for hollaring at my kid in her own house.

Leida: Well, there was a mess and...

Tania: All I know is if you raise a voice or a hand to my kid again, they’ll never find your body and I’ll have Alless back on a plane to Jakarta before the maggots get to you.  And if you’re feeling froogy bitch, then jump!

Leida: (stands with mouth agape)

Okay, so then would I be correct to think that someone in a k1 could attend classes but would have to pay full price?

People on a K-1 Visa can go to school (they would pay full price) AND they can work. To work, they would need to file an I-765 alongside their K-1 application. I never understood why they always say they can't work-- they definitely can. The work authorization is only valid for the 90 days-- but it can be extended in the case of marriage. So you get your K-1 and work authorization for the the same valid dates-- get married in 70 days-- you have 20 days to file and extend your work authorization until you get the green card.

Because the real purpose of the 90 days is to get the culturally approved wedding party ready and move the immigrant into a new house. Why pay an extra $500 in fees to the government to see if you can get a few shifts at McDonalds ? Even if you could technically work many if not most would take a leave of absence for those two events.

Going to your county clerk of justice of the peace and few days after entry and immediately moving from just having an one time entry visa to adjust your status  is what most do. Then file for the status adjustment and a social security along with  tax ID number for that first year's income tax filing

The reason I'm not more sympathetic about her being housebound is that it is temporary.  And she, and the other fiancees, knew that coming over.  Their significant others still needs to work. Maybe Jon can't come home during lunch hour.  Many jobs don't offer that flexibility.  My husband works too far away to even consider coming home at lunch.  You can't expect the partner to take off for weeks at a time.  Most jobs won't allow that.  And I still hold that going to a bar ONE NIGHT after work isn't that ridiculous.  I don't think that is thoughtless at all, although he could have responded to her texts.  It might be a personality thing in that I've always enjoyed being home and can always find something to do (yes, even after I had surgery once and couldn't drive for weeks).  If Fernanda is an extrovert, I'm sure it is harder.  I don't think there is definitely a right or wrong way to react to Fernanda's situation.  It is about how people cope with different situations and what our expectations are of our partners.  I do agree with you in that Jonathan should probably take more time to know what she likes and doesn't like to help her adjust to life in the USA.

Luis was a slightly different story because it was wrong for Molly to expect him to babysit HER kids.

I understand that they *know* what they are getting into.  But they really don't.  It is temporary yes.  But maybe I personalize it b/c I work from home and know the isolation and yet I can leave the house when I want for the most part.  Going to the bar one night isn't a big deal in general but it wouldn't surprise me if he kinda does what he wants b/c he feels like she's bought and paid for.  I get the feeling that Jon probably pulls stunts like this on her more than just that one night.  If I liked him more, maybe I would think she's being totally unreasonable.

Ha!  Good point.

I guess I feel sorry for her in some respects b/c I think her fiance is a douchey frat boy that I suspect is generally only interested in parading around his 19 year-old show piece.  And she's young enough and immature enough not to understand that her new boobies gives him license to do whatever he wants b/c he bought them.

But maybe she's just an immature brat.

Luis was a slightly different story because it was wrong for Molly to expect him to babysit HER kids.

Plus a lot of jobs don't want non-workers hanging around.  I got my husband written up at a job when I was still in college.  My car broke down on my way home from school and I wasn't far from where he worked, so I walked to his job and waited for his shift to end.  The boss walked in and saw me, and wrote him up - even after we explained my car broke down.  They told me I should have left with his car, and come back to get him when his shift was over.  I was right around age 20, so close to Fernanda's age.  He worked at a truck stop at the time, and I didn't interfere with his ability to do his job while I was there.  I was livid and didn't understand at the time, but I get it now.  There was a restaurant there, and I could have gone and sat there and did homework until his shift was over, and it wouldn't have been an issue.  Jill Duggar-Dillard got her husband fired from a job as an accountant at Wal-Mart corporate because she insisted on eating lunch with him every single day.

The whole Molly/Luis thing was just weird.  She should have known better than to bring Vacation D home, but she did it anyway.  I think she thought her brother would help keep him company, and the time would be good for her kids to get to know him, but she seemed to forget he was much younger, and had no clue.  And I still think he planned to run off from the start (hence their getting married in secret not long after he arrived), so I thought his inappropriate talk to Olivia, and his "I'm your daddy now!" to Kinsley was on purpose, to drive wedges in.  I have a feeling she also told him about her racist dad ahead of time, and he saw her as a perfect opportunity to get here, and take off.  His brothers came and got him very quickly......

I am floored with Stephen's (Steven's?) American AND male arrogance that he can take his son to America to live, and it's too bad for Olga. She should be scared. I wouldn't put it past him to try and forge Olga's permission to allow the baby to travel with him. It's clear that he's too young and immature to handle a wife and baby and the baby would not thrive living in America with Steven as his only parental support. I am a nervous wreck just listening to him, so I haven't even watched all of episodes one and two to find out what happens (so forgive my early ignorance).

LOL - Okay, I've just started Part 2 of Backed Into a Corner, where Colt is confiding that he's trying his best to avoid interacting with the waitress (who is clearly lusting after him). Are he and Larissa even residing on planet earth? Colt must have a mild form of aspergers or something on the autism spectrum because he appears confident yet with a completely oblivious and uninformed self awareness. I wish I was just as detached (eg less sensitive), but not to the extreme where my behaviour is ridiculous. I swore off watching this show, yet here I am watching with my daughter and I still dislike the entire group. The American participants don't even adequately represent the average American. (Or do they... and I just don't know any average Americans? Can anyone help me out as I am not from the USA?)

Personally know many DACA kids.   Here in California, they get pretty much a free ride and aid through college.  All they need to prove is that they are low income which is fairly easy to do.  Most DACA families get aid here in some form.

Which is all kinda upside down.  Those that do it leagally, seem to have a harder time once they get here.  It’s why I suggest that Olga come here just to have the baby.   At least here in California, she would not be deported especially if she ended up marrying Steven.  I’m pretty sure Baltimore is a sanctuary city and if she and Steven settled there, she would have no problem staying and probably receiving aid.

During Part 2 I was interacting with my tv - not a good look for me, lol. I am very puzzled with Eric and Leida's relationship. Is this a 'real' match or is it a business partnership? After watching Leida dismiss Eric's family stating she only cares about Eric and her son, and the others 'don't matter', I can't figure out the attraction. What 'good things' do they get from this relationship? How is Eric rewarded by estranging his children and how is Leida rewarded by being with someone as disadvantaged, financially, as Eric? And I was actually yelling at the screen for Fernanda to "GO HOME!" Every couple of days she's sobbing about wanting to go home. So...? Go home, already. I know Jon is 32 going on 16, but let her go. It's not like he'll never date again. Yeesh, these people are so unlikeable!!

Only five states give state aid for DACA students and even fewer give aid to nonDACA undocumented students. Maryland is not one of them. The suggestion that it would be easy for her to come here marry him and deal with a child is quite silly. It is really not easy for poor immigrants maybe she thinks it's easier than staying in Russia that's really her decision I don't think we have enough information suggests which was a better idea for her.

Ugh I'm growing tired of Olga, the Martyr storyline. What is wrong with her? Why doesn't she assert herself...ever? Or is that all editing? Are we to believe Steven showed zero signs of being a fuck boi during the summer when they dated? He was a perfect angel?

All during the fight with Natalie I kept seeing the scooter and super hoping it was hers.  AND IT WAS!

The highlight of the entire episode was Natalie angrily scooting off on her scooter. It was like those clowns that ride the miniature bikes in the circus. What a laugh!

Can you clarify what selling on behalf of others is?  Because this is the post I was responding to:

In NYC you have to be an attorney to sell real estate on behalf of others.

Is selling on behalf of others different from representing a seller as a real estate agent?

Representing a seller or buyer who is someone other than yourself.

Sorry to keep bringing this up, but it's still not clear.  Is a real estate agent/broker defined as someone who sells real estate on behalf of others?  Are they the same thing?

I'm just trying to figure out whether real estate agents in New York City have to be attorneys, because it definitely surprises me, and I find it hard to believe.

Okay, so I did the quickest of Google searches on this...because I had heard that in order to sell real estate in NYC you had to be an attorney.

It sounds like, from my understanding that there has to be an attorney to prepare and represent you for the contractual portion of the transaction.

I bet you Eric has been swindled into thinking he will have access to a fat inheritance once leida's parents die.  O have my doubts.

Also, I'm sure he'd like it if she became a well paid doctor and kept him in the manner to which he will like to become accustomed.

So, is it possible that if Olga marries him and gets her green card that she can qualify for government based financial aid?

Even without a degree, I feel like Olga would be an asset for a company.  If they move in with his grandparents, I suspect she would lean on them to help watch the baby (maybe Stevens mother?  Have we seen her yet, is she awful or she just didn't want to put up with him?)

The agent is just the salesperson. So certainly no agent would need to be an atty. The broker is the agent's boss and the owner of the brokerage where agents work (or it could be a one-person shop where the broker also sells). The broker is responsible for writing (or at least approving) all contracts. In Ohio, where I live, brokers don't need to be attys, bc they need to have worked as an agent for 3+ yrs first and a certain minimum # of hours & sales, and taken additional college level coursework and passed an additional statewide licensing exam before in order to become brokers. But I can def see why some states would require that.

In Arizona we do not require that agents/brokers be attorneys.   Technically, attorneys are not "required" in New York, but I read that 99% of all real estate deals there have attorneys.

If she has her green card she can apply for federal student loans. Now, what she is awarded depends on her income. She'd probably get a Pell Grant and a subsidized loans (the best). Scholarships I don't know about.

That's adorable that your thinking about Olga's value to an employer. AWWWW.

I think a lot of people Olga's age have high expectations and a relatively small skill set.  Finding a pleasant, reliable employee should be an asset to any employer, especially in an unskilled position.  And one that can learn and won't mind additional responsibility should be valuable to anyone.

We do not have that requirement in California either.  Which I think makes the job more challenging because you'd have to understand contractual complexities and explain them to a client.  Whereas in new York you can likely push that off on an attorney.

Interesting thought.  Eons ago, when I worked at Wal-Mart in the office, one of my co-workers was married to a career Army guy.  He got out when the military started getting cutbacks, and she said he just couldn't function without someone telling him what to do, and she was getting tired of it.  They ultimately divorced.  He started working for W-M when she did, and he didn't last long because if someone wasn't telling him every move, he'd be lost.

How does he think the baby would feel growing up without his mother? Short sighted jerk. I can only hope it will be impossible to get the baby out of Russia on his terms.

He's incapable of looking after an infant. And especially when he's too stupid to have back up pumped milk for his hungry son. Instead he says, "He's fine! Feed him!" God knows what happened to have that baby screaming like that, blocks away. I hope TLC didn't purposely wait for the baby to be upset before they filmed. I felt so anxious for Olga.

I think her new name should be Kolonics because she is peddling so much shit, she is in desperate need of one.

Every person I know who has used “pull out” as their method of contraceptives has a child.....so it’s not a method I would trust. Especially as a woman. It’s 2018, not 1818..... Kalani is just lazy and immature (too lazy to use contraceptives and immature because she wants to blame Asuelu).

LOL - My Mother relied on rhythm method and/or pull out as she was unable to handle the pill back in the early days of its introduction. Her method resulted in six kids. She always pointed this out to us kids as what NOT to do.

I didn't realize anybody was excited about scooters. Are they a trend now? They just seem underwhelming in suburbia.

The visual of Natalie angrily scooting off on that little scooter was hilarious to me.

I've seen people in the city riding scooters, but it's normally young, fit and fabulous college students (or in that age range).  Those scooters are not funny.  But Natalie in that scooter....comedy gold.

I thought that maybe he saw what I saw - she's nice looking but not all that and more. In fact, I would like to see her not made up so heavily as she looks like she's closer to 40 than 30. The makeup makes her look hardened.
