If I were with Matt I'd make DAMN sure it took place in the dark. Maybe even with some blindfolds.

I don't think there's any attraction towards him either. Can you imagine? Two people grossed out by each other going at it just because they're  trying to convince themselves of something that ain't there. My brain sees two folks doing their best to control their gag reflexes.

Which is why she owes money to the IRS, presumably.

Yes. It is the same issue Maci and Jenelle, I believe, had with the IRS. No deductions means they need to take care of that issue at tax time. Kail went into this in one article where she said she had no idea how much she had to owe to the IRS when tax time came around. She was floored at the amount she owed and it upset her because it dipped into her aquarium wedding budget. Maci owed over $88k in back taxes.

But she can't hide the amount of these checks from the IRS, I would think. I think I'm missing something.

Yeah, this is where I get confused as well. I would think the amount she gets paid from MTV is easily discoverable or guesstimated by the IRS. What advantage would "laundering" the money give Amber?  I thought the purpose of laundering money was to take illegally gotten funds and funnel them through a semi-legit business, like house flipping, so that they aren't traceable back to the illegal activity. Someone proposed Farrah smurfs/launders money because she gets illegal money from prostituting herself. That I understand, but I'm not getting it with Amber. Unless you are saying that Amber "launders" the money by reporting false huge losses on her house flips so she can look broke and hide the money from any collectors. Is that what y'all think she is doing?

I'm confused about money laundering as well. The purpose of money laundering is to hide illegally obtained cash in a legit business. If I have $100K, for example, obtained from selling drugs, I can't just walk into a bank and deposit it. The bank would tip off the feds, and they would demand to know where I got the cash. If I had a "home staging" business, I could break up the $100K into smaller deposits, and say these were my cash earnings from my "business". This obviously works better in cash based operations, such as laundromats and car washes.

It doesn't make sense for Amber and Farrah to "launder" their own money, as it was obtained legally. Unless the poster is suggesting that Amber and Farrah have partnered with someone who does illegal activities, they hand Farrah or Amber the cash, Farrah or Amber record it as revenues and place it into an account that the person can then access. I don't believe this though- Farrah and Amber would be the worst possible allies in illegal laundering scams. Neither of them can keep their mouths shut and I would not trust them to not screw up somehow.

To me it smacks more of some small operation thinking they can move more products with a Teen mom association, and Farrah and Amber get a cut of the proceeds for doing no work, other than lending their name and making the occasional appearance.

I'll defer to our resident expert, @TaxNerd, but I have to imagine the IRS has limitations on what kind of losses can be written off. And showing huge losses won't help her hide her assets from creditors anyway. Plus Amber is stupid and these kinds of shenanigans are beyond her.

Many months ago, there was an article about Simon that linked to public databases. His girlfriend a few years prior to Farrah had filed a restraining order, which was granted, and she took over their business of renting properties while Simon started his staging business and got his real estate license. There was a comment in the article from a person who claimed to be a real estate professional in California, and stated that Simon didn't have very many sales, and the ones he did have were questionable, based on purchase prices and resales prices, and most were bought with cash. I don't remember the specifics, and I think you have to have a real estate license to get that info. Someone asked for that person to send it to the article author. I don't know if she did, because I didn't follow-up on it.

In the public records linked, he was directly linked to a man who was charged in a Workers' Compensation fraud for his contracting business. That man was basically claiming that he paid certain workers a certain amount and those workers were "injured" and were receiving treatment from medical providers who assisted in the scam. That person had a familial relationship to either Simon or the ex-girlfriend, and had some link to the rental property, that I don't remember now. Neither Simon or the ex-girlfriend actually owned the rental properties. Simon wasn't involved in the Workers Comp fraud, neither was the ex-girlfriend, and with him separating from the ex-gf and their rental business, he was no longer linked to the man charged in the WC fraud.

The man who was connected to their rental properties was indicted for the Workers Comp fraud and the money that was flowing through his construction business was alleged to be from foreign investors linked to a criminal enterprise. The allegations were that his construction company was not doing all the work they were claiming income for doing, were not actually paying the amount in wages that they were claiming, and the partners in that construction business had direct links to the foreign criminals.

I am not suggesting that they are laundering their legitimate income. I'm suggesting that they are working with a criminal enterprise to launder illegal income. The criminal enterprise connected to the Workers' Comp fraud guy have been implicated in extortion, drug and weapon trafficking, and gang violence in British Columbia. I cannot prove that Simon, Farrah, and Amber are working with that group. What can be proven is that Farrah and Simon assisted Amber and Scuzzy into getting into house flipping. There were tweets about it several months ago. Farrah being an escort has been discussed with comments she has made to tabloids, links to her and Sophia's Amazon wish lists of expensive items, and discussions from people who have seen her with the rich business men, including one where she was negotiating with one man what expensive, several thousand dollar purse he was going to buy her. As far as I know, she has never admitted she was an escort, but has admitted to dating rich men. If you have ever seen a video clip of her at the adult entertainment tradeshows, you will see her acting completely different than on Teen Mom. She is friendly and flirtatious, and earning her money. Her primary income is earned in the adult entertainment industry, with her secondary being Teen Mom.

I suffer from a mild dyscalculia, which is known as a number dyslexia, so I'm going to use small numbers to explain the following; obviously we are talking about larger amounts. Lets say someone has $10,000 that they earned from selling drugs. They can't deposit it into a bank account, because that amount triggers required reporting to the government. Now we are going to drop that figure to $100, for the purpose of this example.

Drug dealer breaks the funds up into small amounts and has a smurf deposit them. One was is to purchase a product, or make it look like you received a service. So, the smurf receives a certain amount for processing the funds. Let's say 20% for simple math purposes.

Out of that $100, the smurf would keep $20, and need to return $80 to the drug dealer. So drug dealer purchases a product for $100 from smurf, smurf pays $5 for the product, and owes $2 in taxes, so nets $13, and returns the $80 to the drug dealer by paying for a service to a different smurf. Maybe they purchase the product for $80 from an different smurf of the dealer, only netting their $20, and making it look like the only amount they earned was $20. That smurf either takes a cut, or more likely, that smurf is a subsidiary of the dealer, so the money is going straight back to him.

Flipping houses is the same thing. Someone buys a house, in say Los Angeles, that doesn't need any work done to it, but claims repairs for several thousand dollars which is money paid to a contractor that is a subsidiary of the dealer. The house is then sold to another subsidiary of the dealer, or rented. The purchaser of the home would use their legitimate income to purchase the home or qualify for a loan, but the dirty funds would be used to pay for the non-existing repairs and/or loan payment and maintenance costs. You also see it where someone will put their house on the market for more than the fair-market value with the additional amount being returned to the seller upon closing. It is called a cash out purchase fraud. and the seller tries to pass it off as the first payment. Here is another article that discusses some major money laundering through real estate cases.

Fun fact: Jackie Chan has been accused of laundering money through real estate and his production company. He has never been found guilty in a court of law, though. Steven Segal, the martial artist and actor actually testified against the mob/mafia members who had been blackmailing him to launder their funds through a production company. Watching that man cry like an child when on the stand because he was scared to death was something. It's actually an interesting story about money laundering and blackmail/extortion for those who are interested. I can't link to anything, because I have now been working on this post for an hour, took it to Notepad, then tried to get the links to work, only to have PTV keep locking up and crashing. I've decided to walk away for now, and check in later.

(No offense to foreign copywriters, many of whom are just fine.)

Why does she even put herself out there by publicly saying this shit? Gary rarely tweets, and never about custody. Another instance of zero thinking. Now Amber will get beaten up for telling the world that she again does not have Leah.

I actually think that she can be pretty funny. I pull for a better person to emerge but it never does. It's ok to not be into kids. But I guess Amber feels that that is not a good angle to take on a show called Teen Mom. Look how C&T bitch about Carly. Yet that can't be bothered to send a Christmas present.

Soooooooo, she's not laying in bed and depressed to go and party on New Years but lays around and uses the excuse before her surgeries and now is magically better. Hey Amber, that's not how depression works, that's not how any of this works.

Just like Cate, she picks and chooses to use that excuse to explain away the laziness, the not being with your kid and weight gain when neither are depressed. Just love how she's been magically cured and her next ailment will be the next excuse for not being with her child.

And yes I understand it might not be her year to have Leah for New Years since custody arrangements usually alternate holidays every year, so I should be looking for the Christmas tweet with Boo Boo from her, right? Did she spend any time with her for Thanksgiving? But she can cry on national TV about not getting more time, so wouldn't a person that wanted more time try to see their child on that day anyway? But no she will be too busy blowing through money in Las Vegas like she doesn't even have a kid. And why be taking expensive trips and shit when you just quit your only job?

I've never been tagged before, you are making me blush :).  Thanks for making my morning!

Generally you can write losses off for a while before the IRS reclassifies the house flipping activity as a hobby, limiting the losses against the income from the same activity.  And you are right about debt, having a "credit" with the IRS is not going to stop you from getting sued by creditors.

Is the Vegas NYE a paid gig? Or are they just going expecting to be treated like celebrities?

Amber is the type to pull Leah away from her siblings and parents on Christmas just to bring her to the rented house and send her away to her bedroom when the photo opportunity is over.

Thanks!  Ha ha, I keep picturing them not being able to get into any clubs, slinking back to their overpriced hotel room and falling asleep watching the ball drop on tv.

Neither has a job to take time off from, they would literally spend half as much if they went next week.  Overcrowded hotels, fully booked restaurants, and you miss spending time with your child while they are off from school.

Is there a way to see what Ambuh posted during the holiday week last year? That would surely show if she had Leah for Xmas or NYE.

Thanks @TaxNerd for the information.

I am here having my coffee, I have some errands to run later for the holidays. I want to take this time to wish you all a wonderful holiday and a safe one! Thanks for all the laughs and snark you all brought to this site throughout the year. Going to take the rest of this to the small talk thread.

I forgot about that. Thanks for reposting.

Amber is such a piece of shit. She does the bare minimum for the sweet child -- and she has to be forced to do even that.

Gary is so laid back about custody I doubt he's sticking to rules about holidays. Even if he had Leah on the actual New Year's Eve - yeah, still lots of days in there.

We never know what is really happening, but I can't even count how many times we have heard Amber talk about not being home, being sick, depressed, busy, etc. If I narrated my life with kids, you'd hear the occasional "sick and kids went to grandmas for the morning" thing, but not much else. Daddy would get them later, or grandma would bring them home after I'd slept a few hours. Eh, I just can't with any of her excuses. Leah isn't even an infant or toddler - she pretty much takes care of herself.

Wait. We just had a conversation here about how she could actually spend the holidays spreading a bit of cheer, donating some of her time. Coincidence?

Well she did say she has three businesses on the reunion:  selling her Walmart wares from the comfort of her sofa, going to Vegas and flipping houses.  There.

Amber really needs to shut up about her businesses on TV and social medial while she owes this insane amount of money to the IRS.  Matt is a huge Stern fan, so he knows what happened to Crazy Cabbie.  He was a 'Wack Packer' who bragged about his money on the radio show but never paid his taxes.  An IRS employee was listening to the show and was tired of Crazy Cabbie's shenanigans.  An investigation began and Crazy Cabbie ended up in Federal prison for a year.

Amber doesn't seem to realize that the IRS loves nothing more than to impose prison sentences on those who absolutely refuse to pay their tax debt. They will only make so many offers to arrange payments and asset forfeiture (when you have assets) and then they are done. Especially when you owe the amount she does. It's not exactly pocket change. You would think she'd do anything she could to avoid going back to the slammer.
