To learn what shows have the most hype from fans, INSIDER worked with Parrot Analytics, which compiles available global data on social media, blogging, pirating, and other factors to figure out the viewer demand for shows.

Parrot assigned each series an "expressions" total that reflects average daily audience demand from all countries from April 8 to June 6, 2018 (adjusted for each country's population).

1. "The Walking Dead" (AMC)
...
Average Demand Expressions: 11.84 million

The eighth season of "The Walking Dead" came to an end in April, helping launch the post-apocalyptic series to the No. 1 spot on our list.

Spoiler

The show's star Andrew Lincoln is reportedly leaving the series, so we'll have to see how future seasons of "The Walking Dead" stack up.

AMC to air Best of Carol - Walking Dead Marathon

Quote

The Carol marathon will begin on Sunday at 11am E.T., and these character-based marathons will continue in the coming weeks, with a Governor marathon on July 8, a Shane marathon on July 15, a Glenn marathon on July 22, and a Michonne marathon on July 29.

Highlights of the Carol marathon include the season 2 episode "Cherokee Rose," in which Carol and Daryl first begin to bond over their shared concern for the missing Sophia, and the season 4 episode "The Grove," in which Carol is forced to shoot a young girl, Lizzie, after her obsession with zombies leads her to murder her own sister. The scene in which Carol tearfully tells Lizzie to "look at the flowers" remains one of The Walking Dead's most memorable (and tragic) moments.

Season 2, Episode 4: "Cherokee Rose"

Season 4, Episode 1: "30 Days Without An Incident"

Season 4, Episode 4: "Indifference"

Season 4, Episode 14: "The Grove"

Season 5, Episode 1: "No Sanctuary"

Season 5, Episode 13: "Forget"

Season 6, Episode 15: "East"

Season 6, Episode 16: "Last Day on Earth"

Season 7, Episode 2: "The Well"

Season 7, Episode 10: "New Best Friends"

I'll pass on the Governor marathon (yuk) but the others could be interesting.  I don't want to see Glenn die again, hopefully that's not part of his marathon.

Ha, ha - TWD's one Emmy nod went to a short-form drama about a prop weapon...

The Walking Dead Only Got One Emmy Nod, And Not The One We Expected

At one point, The Walking Dead was both a ratings monster and critical winner, with the majority of vocal fans championing how the story was going. Today, however, as the AMC hit is currently in production on the world-changing Season 9, everything feels completely backwards on the popularity front. And The Walking Dead's lowered pop culture ranks are partially evidenced by how the show fared for the 2018 Emmy nominations: it received just one nomination, and not for makeup or special effects, but for the short-form drama The Walking Dead: Red Machete.

Having premiered both on the web and as part of the commercial breaks during the first half of The Walking Dead Season 8, Red Machete is a tale told in six micro-chapters that serves as an origin story for the titular weapon that Rick has used in the flagship series. An effectively moody and plot-lite stretch of storytelling that featured a surprise appearance from The Claimers' Joe, it was nominated for Outstanding Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series at the upcoming 70th Primetime Emmy Awards, where it's going up against projects from Wyatt Cenac, James Corden, Grey's Anatomy and TV writer Megan Amram.
*  *  *
As fans are well aware, The Walking Dead has never been an awards darling anywhere outside the genre-specific circuit, so this isn't exactly a major snub. But there have been some expectations over the years. Greg Nicotero and his team won for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for those first two seasons, and was nominated in four of the next five seasons. (That was its only nomination in 2017.) But this year, it was beat out by Westworld, Game of Thrones, Star Trek: Discovery, The Assassination of Gianni Versace and American Horror Story: Cult.

Similarly, the show regularly got nominated for the Outstanding Special Visual Effects categories, as well as Outstanding Sound Editing. None of that this year either. Effects nods went to Westworld, Stranger Things, Altered Carbon, Game of Thrones and Lost In Space, so it seems like there wasn't room for anyone there other than HBO and Netflix. Sound editing also went to several of the same series we've heard about already, with Homeland also joining in.

Ooh, I may have to find a time to sit down and watch that Red Machete thing all the way through now. I love Jeff Kober (first watched him in China Beach), and thought that his Joe character was suitably creepy and menacing... And whereas I can't buy why no one has put a bullet in Negan's head way before now, I pretty much understood how Joe was able to get his small band - and even for a while Darryl - to buy into his philosophy... and also how Darryl slowly figured out what a mistake that ended up being. The Claimers storyline was one of my favorite villain arcs of the series.

Thanks for the link.

Danai continues to blow up. I never thought that her movie career would take off like this, but damn, her performance in Black Panther was stellar and deserving of all this good stuff. It will be interesting to see if she re-signs with TWD. AMC will have to write a huge check to keep her and it is cheap as hell.

The Walking Dead: Melissa McBride not attending SDCC this year
by Sonya Iryna   July 13, 2018
https://undeadwalking.com/2018/07/13/walking-dead-melissa-mcbride-not-attending-sdcc-year/

Quote

The Walking Dead’s panel for SDCC is going to be a little smaller this year. AMC confirmed to Undead Walking that Melissa McBride won’t be attending the show’s highly anticipated panel at SDCC this year. That leaves just five cast members that will be on the panel: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Also on the panel will be Executive Producer and new showrunner of The Walking Dead Angela Kang, Executive Producers Scott M. Gimple and Gale Anne Hurd, and Direction/Executive Producer/Special Effects Supervisor Greg Nicotero.

The panel will be hosted by The Walking Dead superfan Yvette Nicole Brown who stepped in to moderate both The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead panels after Chris Hardwick chose to withdraw.

There's no way she re-signs with The Sinking Titanic. Not with Hollywood in such hot pursuit right now of both her writing and acting talents. The fact that she's "in-talks" with these projects tells me she's lining up gigs for her post-TV show career.

That HAS to be breaking some kind of law, right?  The police aren’t allowed to torture people in custody, much less people standing out on the street.

I don't know if there is a law against it. If there is we will hear about it by tomorrow. I don't agree with it, but I think it is hilarious. I bet some of the protesters think it is funny. Don't worry they will stop soon. It will start driving them crazy too, or the neighbors. If I were a protester I would get a chant line-up/chain going at certain points in the melody to counter attack it. Catch it and throw it back, lol.

She was just featured in a PBS show called "Breaking Big" - 30 minutes about her life and career.  It really focused on Eclipsed but mentioned TWD and Black Panther.

I was lucky enough to see Eclipsed in San Francisco.  It was the most moving thing I've ever seen in a theater.  Why this show has not asked her to write an episode boggles the mind.

Well, in my view, the show has never appreciated what they had in Danai or the depth, talent, and charisma she brought to the show.

Oh hell no.  With their usual keen acumen, TPTB probably picked Danai simply because she looked good in the Michonne wig - kinda like Greg Brady getting picked to be Johnny Bravo simply because he fit the suit. :)

She needs to rewrite the last three years!  I can't imagine Danai being forced to write any of Negan's stupid dialogue.  lol
I saw Danai on the cover of Women's Health at the store.

I like the caption:  Want arms like these? No weights required!  I mean, no, it requires a katana.  lol

Edited to add I notice it also says she's from "Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther"  ...no walking dead

Truer words were never spoken.  They spent more time and energy on Beth than they ever did on Michonne, even though she happens to be one of THE iconic characters in TWD.  Michonne was ignored more than any of the other female characters.  They doled out Michonne story lines to Carol and other characters.  Then, after she started fucking Rick, they ignored AND neutered the character.  And now these losers are throwing $20 million at Norman Reedus while they have one of the hottest stars on the planet in their cast.

I thought his AP, and KS were better this time than the last film. JG was good. I was impressed with his KS this time around. He nailed his matter-of-fact attitude, or laissez faire attitude. This must be his plan b if he can't find acting work. Thanks for sharing.

For only an extra $5 a month you can watch the show 24 hours earlier than everyone else, along with peeks, bonuses etc, just another example of AMC dumping all over the fans who’ve dragged the show this far, who’ve stayed hanging on to it when it could, and at times should have been left to sink into the abyss without trace.

Its bad enough being treated like a second class fan just for living outside the US. Their lust for the mighty $$$$ is quite sickening at times, we’re one big happy family huh, it’s just those of us who are willing to part with the most cash get to sit nearest the head of the table ???

An article from ‘Variety’

https://variety.com/2018/tv/news/walking-dead-showrunner-angela-kang-season-9-andrew-lincoln-1202963883/

After reading I would have felt optimistic, if I hadn’t watched sneak peek 3,

The juggernaut AMC series has a new showrunner at the helm in Angela Kang, making her the fourth showrunner in the show’s history. At the same time, series mainstay Andrew Lincoln will be leaving the show while fellow star Lauren Cohan will only appear in a handful of episodes due to her commitment to the upcoming ABC series “Whiskey Cavalier.”

On top of all of that, “The Walking Dead” has been facing a growing wave of criticism for its past few seasons. Fans and critics have lambasted the show for what they feel is slowly-paced storytelling and an over-reliance on gore, blood, and guts rather than character development. Those criticisms have been reflected in the show’s ratings: While still a massive presence on television, the show has seen serious declines in its Live+Same Day numbers.

The previous series low in the key adults 18-49 demographic was set in Season 1 with a 2.4 rating. During Season 8, the show came dangerously close to matching that low, with the lowest-rated episode of the season coming in at a 2.6. In addition, the Season 8 finale was the lowest-rated since Season 1 with a 3.4 rating, while the Season 8 premiere was the lowest-rated since Season 3 with a 5.0. Though most series would crow about such ratings, it’s not great for what is frequently touted as the number one show on TV.

Yet there may be some light at the end of the zombie-filled tunnel. Kang’s love for the show and the Robert Kirkman comic book series is undeniable, and that energy and passion may well be what that the show needs in this new chapter.

Speaking with Variety, Kang did not shy away from the criticisms levied against the show.

“None of us live in a vacuum so it would be dishonest of me to say that I’ve never heard any of that stuff,” she said. “I don’t often go out seeking that stuff out there, because we really need to concentrate on making the best story possible. But I think a lot of times, we do our own internal reckonings, like ‘To us, it feels like we’ve done a lot of this type of story. What’s a new way to tell this? What are some of the things that we miss doing?’ And a lot of times that lines up with things that fans or critics have been feeling. So we’re not trying to chase something but we have a responsibility to ourselves and our viewers to not rest on our laurels.”

Early reviews for the Season 9 premiere have been mostly positive, with critics describing the episode as a “fresh start” and one of the better installments in some time. But is that momentum sustainable without Lincoln in place as the leader on set? The assumption has been that Norman Reedus, a.k.a the gruff Daryl Dixon, would fill that role with Lincoln gone, but Kang says that is not necessarily true.

“It’s a group dynamic,” she says. “Norman sort of has Daryl’s attitude, like ‘I don’t wanna be called number one.’ In his own way, he leads. I think Danai [Gurira] is a wonderful leader as well. She has her own style of things. She very much looks out to make sure things are fair for people. Melissa [McBride] is a wonderful presence that anchors stuff when she’s there…. At this point, I don’t think any one person has to be like, ‘OK, I’m the leader, guys.’ Everybody just knows whenever you’re in a scene and you’re the senior person, you set this example of the professionalism and the respect that has been the vibe of the show since the beginning, which was set by Andy. I think that’s a big part of his legacy to the show.”
