Awww....I kind of figured it would be the end for the Masqueraders tonight, but I hope they've gotten enough publicity that they can do some shows somewhere.  Maybe contact TJ Lubinsky and go on one of those doo wop shows on PBS.

I was watching Masterchef and switching over at the commercial breaks to try and catch who advanced. On one of the breaks I saw when the Pompeyo family got eliminated. Was it just me or did they leave the stage when they weren't supposed to? The deaf singer went to hug them and they were already gone. I know they were upset, the little girl was crying before they read the results. Too bad. Loved the dogs.

They certainly whisk away the losers very quickly. Both Merrick and Mandy tried to console the losers but they were nowhere to be found. A little surprised Eric beat out the Masqueraders. Everything else was rather obvious to me. Dogs were cute but act was nothing special. On a lighter note I really hoped that VFTW might keep the Mirror Image twins in the game just to irritate Simon. I think the fact they didn't survive speaks volumes about the shows demographics not including teenage girls.

Either let the viewers pick ALL the acts or have the deciding vote count as "2 points" so there won't be any ties. I think the judges let it go to the viewers vote to decide the outcome, so they might as well let us decide.

I thought The Masqueraders should've gone through. Eric's card trick wasn't that great especially when it was clearly noticeable that Howie's card wasn't the same card Eric ended up with.

Evie probably shouldn't gone through.

I'm a little disappointed that Evie goy in over the masqueraders. I dont think her voice is that great and the main reason she keeps getting through is because of the sympathy vote. I feel bad because what is going with her dad is truly awful but we have a lot of younger singers and she not even close to being one if the better ones.

Am thrilled Mirror Image is finally gone.  I think America (if not the judges too) are voting for the sympathy factor, not the "Is this act worth a million dollars?" factor.  I definitely would have given the vote to the Masqueraders over the other two acts they were against.  I wonder if they would have won if the last performance wasn't overproduced by the show, not them, with the background music overtaking their singing somewhat.  Glad Merrick Hanna made it and am sad to see the Pompeyo Family & Dogs go.  Next week Sara & Hero are on.  I doubt they'll make it but am glad they get another chance to show their stuff.

Circus 1903 was darn good.  More, please.

Ameriker did a lot better this week.  It screwed up saving Evie and Mandy over the Masqueraders, for sure.  I would have saved the dogs over either of those singers.

I wanted to smack Mel B with her "confused" reaction as Celine was named a semifinalist.  I fully admit I am happily surprised that she got through, given all TPTB did to sabotage her.  I predict she makes the Finals, now.

I'm also pleased that Eric the magician got through.  As Howie said when he threw the choice back to Ameriker: "For variety."  A TO THE MEN!

Aside from wishing that the dog act had made it through, we were okay to pleased with the results.  I so agree with Howie about wanting more variety.  Too.many.singers!!

Also, I was annoyed that I did not get to take part in the Dunkin' Save.  I tried to log in from my laptop, and the site would not authenticate me either logging in through Facebook, which I usually do, or logging in through e-mail.  So I tried logging in from my desktop computer.  Page took so long to load that by the time it was up, the voting was closed.  Anyone else have trouble last night?

I think Mirror Image is entirely the fault of the judges (or not being able to vote until now), but as a general principle, I've noticed it's:

(Sympathy)^n * talent=votes.  I'm not sure how big n is, but it's at least 2.

A good sob story will get you some votes--but you need some talent as well.  That's one of the areas where the producers can shape things; it's not the "best" sob story, but the best story we see.  That's balanced out a little by people who fast-forward through the sob stories, and the people who (in keeping with the American Idol playbook), are sad in part because they keep chasing a dream of being a singer/dancer/etc., but get cut in the audition rounds because their talent doesn't show up on stage well.

I was so tired Wednesday noon after I got off from work I actually fell asleep at the computer posting my reviews...lol! So I didn't get to rate the performances so I'll instead rate last nights acts going to the next round:

7. Evie Clair- The Masqueraders should've gone instead of her. Her voice is the weakest of the remaining singers. Definitely the sob story helped.

6. Merrick Hanna - I really don't know what people see in this kids performance....really! Now, can I move like he does? No way, but I'm not trying to make it as an entertainer...lol! His moves are repeated in every performance and at times he's not in sync with the music. I think America is afraid to bump this kid out. Go ahead America, I think the little dude can take it! I wasn't a fan of Pompeyo, but I think they or Brobots & Mandroids should've gone in his place.

5.Mandy Harvey - (Sigh)....Another singer with weak vocals. Someone here posted that they couldn't understand her. Well, they have a point! I couldn't understand her either. I had to rewind a couple of times. Based on her vocals, she shouldn't have gone through.

4. Eric Jones - I love magic! I liked his audition. Tuesday night wasn't a good night for Eric. In the coin trick, you can see that he had another coin in his right hand that was under the glass. In the card trick with Howie Mandel, the card that Howie wrote his name wasn't the same card that Eric pulled out. The signature was different and was at a different angle. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy! The Masqueraders should have gone through.

3. Johnny Manuel - Ah, now we're starting to get somewhere. Johnny's audition was great! I thought he's a sure thing to get to the finals. Not so fast!! I wasn't "wowed" by his singing or performance Tuesday night, but he did enough to get through.

2. Celine Tram - She deserved to go through! I disagreed with MelB (I always do anyway..lol) about the song was to big for her. I thought she sang the song well and one of the things I like about Celine is she sounds like a little girl. She doesn't try to sound grown up (Hint, hint to Angelica!). I actually think she has the better vocals of the two girls.

1. Light Balance - They were awesome! I enjoy this type of act, whatever you call it! The music, the lightshow, and the dancing were all spot on! I'm sure they would've better in the live show.

A few loose points....

. What's with MelB with her hair? She looks awful and old!

. Can the other producers not named Simon Cowell stop with MelB throwing water at Simon? I'm sure this was scripted and the TPTB probably thinks we like this sort of silliness.

. Tyra Banks looks good! It looks like she lost some weight, but she still lacks the style or any style for that matter that Nick Cannon has. Tyra in my opinion tries to get as much tv time as possible, while Nick looked like he really cared for the contestants and always seemed to put these nervous contestants at ease.

. Did I mention that MelB looked awful?  Hehehe!  :D

 Until next time....

The best things about tonight's show is that Light Balance got through and Mirror Image didn't.   Although, there is disagreement about all the other acts, it seems most agree about that.

Disappointed to see the dogs and the Masqueraders go.  Thought both deserved it over the magician, but no really big deal as neither was going to win it all anyway.

People vote for a lot of different reasons and it shouldn't just be the default sympathy reason that many give.

There are advantages to a good story, being an adult, being a child, being a teenager as negatives.

Some seem to despise the back stories and they act immune to it, yet they accuse most of falling for it.

Just because someone doesn't like someone's singing isn't automatically the sympathy vote.  Perhaps, more voters do like the singing.

Plus, the default sympathy vote doesn't really seem to hold up as many go through with little or no good back story while the some sob stories go home.

The Masqueraders had a heartfelt story but went home.  Evie barely made it through, while other's with hardly anything emotional beat her out.   Light Balance for one.

Plus, hardly anyone is voting for an act worth a million dollars.  People just vote for who they like.

The show is paying the million to attract talent, but is the actual act worth a million?  No way to know, but that isn't the point.  The show is making millions, so it is to them.

It's starting to seem like the judges don't want to stand up and pick someone and kick it over to the votes.  They call it the judge's pick, but most of the time, the audience picks it.  Why not just let the audience pick it anyway?

Is it just me or does Tyra look ghoulish tonight?  Like bad makeup or bad lighting?

And what is with her weird manner with the younger contestants?  Extreme close talking, awkward hugging, uncomfortable to watch.

Coming to really like Heidi, she seems real.

Thank you for quoting me again, Parker.  I'm not going to take your bait and try to defend what I've already written and have you start another argument.  Although I may read your posts, I will not be responding to any of them in the future.

Heidi's wardrobe is way better than Tyra's lately, IMO.  I think Tyra is trying to embrace the young ones so she will seem sweet and sympathetic to them.  I know she has a son, but it just seems like it's part of her act.  "Look at me, I'm really nice and understanding with children."

Finally! So long, Mirror Image! Maybe you never darken a doorstep again with your uncanny valley ways!

I feel like I say this way too much but little Merrick is just the cutest. I thought it was really nice of him to mention that while he's happy to go through, he's also sad to lose some of the friends he made on the show. I imagine a lot of friendships have sprung up between acts getting to know each other.

Yeah, I think the parents scurried their daughter off so the poor thing didn't have a meltdown on live tv. As you mentioned she was already crying before the results were even read.

This year in general it seems like a lot of acts run off stage before Tyra or the act that got through can console them. I understand it for the little kids (who wants to see them have a breakdown? not me) but for the adults it comes off as being a sore loser. Only one act can win this whole thing, there's dignity in being gracious in defeat.

No, they're not always ties.

Every once in a while, maybe like once a season, the judges will put actually make a decision without it being tossed back to the viewer vote. Many have speculated that they do this when the act the show wants to put through comes in behind the one they don't, and I don't think that's an unreasonable assumption.

I thought the losers were asked to leave the stage immediately by the producers ??  It was obvious by how Tyra immediately went to talk to the winner and basically ignored the losers even though they were being consoled / hugged.  All of the losers left immediately, except for Dancing Trump who was asked to stay by Tyra.

I thought the show should be called Americas Got Tyra's Boobs :D  I was afraid one or both going to pop out every time she bowed down to talk to the younger contestants (and there seem to be more of them this year)

oh my god, no.

A couple years there was two rounds of finals where everyone performed twice. I dont think that will happen this year as we are about to hit september and not in the semi finals even yet. The format the last couple years has been Top 22 in finals. 11 on each show. So that means there will be one wildcard from this round that they will bring back. I wonder who it will be? Last year it was the rubiks cube guy.
