The toothbrush, her sons, was gross

The worst part(s) were that she was going to take the batteries from the smoke detector first, but- of course- there aren't any. So then she goes to the electric toothbrush, and instead of going to the trouble of removing the battery and reinstalling it in the vibrator (which is bad enough), she's in such a hurry to masturbate that she just uses the toothbrush? This is kind of repulsive.

In this economy, the best job Beth (the one who was capable of managing a car dealership, remember) can find is some half-assed looking Hallmark store? I thought they were doing these jobs in order to acquire singles-and chemicals, in Ruby's case- for their counterfeiting, but why would there be large amounts of currency in this shop?

I thought at first that Rhea was poor, and that was why Beth was giving her hand-me-downs, but then she's able to write a big check to help Beth out?

If they want us to think Rio did the massacre of the FBI guys, they failed (imo). I assume the head FBI guy (can't think of his name) is wearing a vest, but there seemed to be a lot of blood on the pavement.

I didn't expect them to keep the payday loan guy around, but I'm glad they did. He's delightful.

Wouldn't Ruby have to get some kind of certification to work in a nail salon? I feel like that's a lot of extra work (and financial investment) to get access to chemicals that are available elsewhere.

I don't like the stereotype the show was reinforcing about strippers being dumb. Not knowing there's a popcorn button on the microwave--really? This is a post-Hustlers world, people.

There was no way they'd kill Rio off for good, but I am surprised they appear to be getting rid of Turner so quickly.

Beyond gross ( I hope she wiped it off) it was stupid writing again.  Did it take AA, 9 V or D.? She was grabbing them all.  Is someone really owning up to this script? Didn’t think it would be as dumb as housewives or whatever the first season.  It can be fun and well written

I like that they had the payday loan guy back. He's funny. "You trippin' if you think that's how our founding father wears his cravat."

I loved that. And really, the details he's obsessing over are the ones that will make or break their counterfeit dough, so maybe be grateful he's trying to help! Sometimes Annie is so deeply annoying.

Also masturbating with your kid's toothbrush is gross.

And maybe a bit painful. Ouch. I think the toothbrush was rechargable, i.e., no batteries, so that's why she had to use it. Doesn't make it any less gross, of course.

My electric toothbrush is rechargeable. Fun fact: rechargeable sex toys exist, so that's an investment Annie might want to make.

I am thrilled that payday loan guy has returned, I didn't expect to see him at all but I am happy that he is back again! "You trippin' if you think that's how our founding father wears his cravat." Is almost certain to be my favorite line of the season.

Shouldn't Ruby have some kind of certification to work at a nail place? They arent supposed to let just any random person do that. I guess its supposed to be really low rent and crappy? Also I dont think I like that they are doing the "strippers are stupid slutty morons" trope, its so tired and meanly stereotypical. It did like the bit where Ruby ended up having to comfort the woman from the insurance agency who just got downsized. That took a real turn!

Beth befriending Rios baby mamma is so going to end badly. It would end badly even if we didn't know that Rio was still alive.

Did they really just off Agent Turner so quickly into the new season? After saving him last finale?

Did Annie just seriously steal her kids toothbrush to use it to masturbate?! After trying to take the batteries out of the smoke detector (which there arent any, of course! Why would there be batteries in something that can save you and your child's life!?) first? She needed to get off that much? Thats just nasty, as well as being shitty, even for Annie, who is generally the captain of the hot mess express. Just...ewwwww! It was so gross, I thought it was a dream sequence for a second, but nope! Annie is just that gross.

I haven't watched it yet, but I will say that this show has 'killed' several people before and they came back, so maybe he isn't gone for good. Although, that'd be silly for them to do that for like the fourth time.

Not only that, but the whole setup in the garage with the specialty printers, dehydrators, etc, must have cost more than Beth's delinquent mortgage payments. And then, after what must have been months of trying to get it right, they burn the first batch that could fool the machine because Turner paid Beth a visit at her place of work. Did they think the FBI would just forget about them?

Did not like Retta being so judgmental about strippers. Stan isn't doing anything untoward; he's professional with the strippers, who are just women doing a job.

And one of the strippers even taught Sarah how to suppress her gag reflex so she could swallow her pills. Ruby should be thankful for the expert advice. 😂

I'm probably the only person who couldn't stand Rio, so I'm not happy he's still alive. I wanted fresh storylines for this season, and with Rio still involved it will just be more of the same.

Was James Lesure in the main credits in previous seasons? He got a guest star in this ep. Not that that means he won't return. I suspect he'll be gone for a few eps while his character recovers from the gunshot (and Lesure works on other projects). He might have turned down a series regular spot for flexibility.

It's too bad Manny Montana was listed in the opening credits, because that spoiled the "surprise" for me that Rio was alive.

I was not surprised.  I predicted this last season in a comment.  I believe many scoffed.  They still have not explained exactly how he lived, but he may have been wearing a vest.

Did anyone else find the plot hard and super boring to follow?  Like @chocolatine said this damn counterfeit story doesn't make any sense.  God I hope this picks up next week.

I thought the printing press was in the back of the card shop?  It seemed like it was a high-end boutique paper goods shop, where the in-house graphic artist designed the cards and they printed them onsite.

But would a card shop print press also have a washer and dryer? It looked like the entire process, including the drying the money with Scrabble tiles, all happened in the same place.

And I thought Beth took the money HOME to dry it with the Scrabble tiles, LOL!  I'm basing my assumption that the press is in the store on the scene where Beth hurries Lucy (the graphic artist) out at the end of the night, then opens up the back door to let in Annie and Ruby, who've brought with them their ones and polish remover, respectively.  Annie complains about having to wait outside in the cold.  I think they've set up after-hours operations in the card store, then Beth takes the product home to finish the drying and "aging."

When the raid turned out to be a bust Agent Turner threw his vest and pistol into the car in disgust. I thought it strange that the pistol was also thrown when the scene shifted to the van starting its roll. Some of the other agents still had their vest on with at least one other taking it off. In any case assuming the drive by was done by a machine gun by looking at the windows and all the agents being down body armor still won't stand up to that kind of firepower.

Rio wasn't in the van but seeing him check out of the safe house/hotel room, well he knew and set it up.

The show lives on silly, not realism and just from a visual Agent Turner's two obvious wounds seemed in less critical spots than Rio survived. As a planned raid I can head canon that medical assistance was part of the plan and ready to move faster than the 9-1-1 call to save Rio before he could bleed out.  Although I bet that Turner will be the lone survivor from his team.

There was a big expose in the NY Times a few years ago about how exploitative many nail salons are (there's a reason some mani-pedi prices are so low). I can fully believe this one doesn't require any certifications.

But also, Beth said she hadn't paid her mortgage in four months, so some time has passed. Maybe that was enough time for Ruby to do whatever she needed to do; we don't know how long Ruby's been working there.

Interesting interview with Manny. I have a gut feeling "Beth" wanted Manny shot in the end and that was why Manny was surprised but knew he'd be back. I think those scenes were not her favorite and maybe they agreed on a different angle. If she's pregnant it will be interesting because BC is nonexistent in 2020 on TV. I can't think of what he is referring too other than that. I will watch a little for those scenes but know the stuff like laundering money and vibrator toothbrushes will be FF.

If the story is true I heard that the stand alone nail salons took off because of the lack of regulation in that field. Vietnamese refugees after the fall of Saigon were being helped into business but due to language they were not able to pass the test for working on hair so actress Tippi Hedren was the spark of getting into a business without the hair test turning away their people.

Thus Vietnamese family operators tended to dominate the industry and other ethnic groups joined in the new industry.

I kind of hated that too. I mean sure that woman is stripping to pay her bills, but you and your friends are committing multiple felonies and doing shit that leads to people getting killed to pay yours. So maybe don't be so judgemental.

I am curious where they go with this, because it seems like a gang drive-by that kills a whole team of FBI agents would be a huge deal. Detroit would probably be placed under martial law if that actually happened.

BC = birth control?

Thinks for the link; it sounds like Brio - as a couple or "romantic" - is dead. I mean, that might seem obvious because she shot him, but it's TV, and they could bring it back if they wanted to. But it sounds like they're not; even if Manny plays up the sexual tension.

Best line of the episode for me!  Got a genuine LOL.

This show to me is all about the girls taking 1 step forward, 5 steps back.  This episode succeeded in that respect, plus some.

I love the additional ladies on the show with Charlene Yi (the condiments at the diner cracked me up, for some reason) and Flaca.  That's said, I cringed EVERYTIME Beth interacted with Rhea and Marcus.  I know it is her feeling guilty and that she actual likes Rhea, but the shit is going to hit the fan now that Rio is back.

It is super hypocritical for Ruby to be pissed at Stan for working at a strip club and dealing with the strippers.  It is clear he is just working the job for the family and at this point WHAT choice does he have at this point?  The stripper explaining to Sara how to relax her gag reflex was so genius and cringeworthy.  Also cringeworthy?  Annie and that damn SpongeBob toothbrush.  Girl. No.

So, Dean is back in the house? Ugh. Sidenote: Does Matthew Lillard look a bit better this season?

While I find the Girls very compelling, I can't lie and say that Manny Montana and Rio isn't a huge hook for me.  I wasn't under the impression he was dead (and honestly, the ppl in charge seem to see the fanbase of the show tends to LOVE him), and I'm excited he's back.  I think his relationship with Beth is going to get significantly more interesting.  She shot him.  3 times.  I don't think he's going to want to roll in the sheets with her anytime soon, but that chemistry has to translate to something.   I hear from you guys that there may be tension between CH and MM, so that may explain some of the change in direction.

Happy season 3, friends!

Nail tech school depending on area can take anywhere from three months to a year. If Ruby went to school full time to put the hours in, it could’ve happened quickly.

I know they were going for humor with the strippers being dumb but it’s 2020, no need for that. Also I’m sure the writers didn’t intend for this but the one bending over topless to look at the phone shows how desensitized you become around nudity when you’re around it so much. She’s so used to being topless that she doesn’t realize it. Same with Stan. He looks like he’s been there long enough to become desensitized to it. Ruby’s eyes were bugging out of her head while Stan isn’t reacting to any of it.

Annie. Ugh. I didn’t find humor in any of her behavior.

I used to have crushes on quirky looking cute guys like Dax Shepard and Mathew Lillard. Dax might actually look better now then back then but Lillard has not aged as well. It’s crazy how some people just age better than others, though taking care of yourself and not having health issues are also factors.

The toothbrush masturbation was just too far.  Totally gross.  And.... painful, I would assume.

I was surprised Turner died but when you make as many stupid decisions as he did, I guess it's to be expected it will come back to bite you.  I feel badly for all those he took down with him though.

Which, now that he's gone, we'll likely never get an explanation for why he cared more about stopping Beth than stopping Rio. And why he would trust Rio after Rio beat him up, tied him up, etc at the end of last season.

Rio turned snitch? Aw geez. And it doesn't look like he was in official witness protection. Wonder if the feds knew Agent Turner had him stashed like that?

Yeah, it's funny how so many people think Hamilton was a president because he's on money. Doesn't seem like Lin-Manuel's success fixed that issue.

I don't think I'd ever heard that sappy song by Diana Ross. Which apparently was a remake of a Marlo Thomas song. Yikes.

So Beth thinks Rio is really, most sincerely dead or was that just a cover story?

Wait, did Turner somehow find out about the new batch of counterfeit money or did he just remind Beth occasionally that he was keeping an eye on them?

Whee, what's a champagne room?! Lol'd at that stripper inadvertently teaching Ruby's daughter how to deep throat.

I'm confused. Was Rio somehow channeling money to his girlfriend? Who used some of it to put a hit on Turner? I do get though that Rio removed all his competition by ratting them out to Turner. Turner's head got big from all his successful raids and then Rio set the trap.

Since Turner had removed his vest I think he's probably dead for real. And the FBI might think it was one of guys who Rio ratted on who did it. They might not even know Rio is alive since he was in that hotel under an assumed name.

I was shocked to see Ethan Suplee!  Dude was a huge part of my 90s life!  I loved his ex-con character delivering the money to Beth at the end; it was well handled.

Jessica Walter is a national treasure!  She is so great as Dean's mom.  I love the push-pull, irritated relationship she has with Beth.  I enjoyed the childishness she brought out in Beth "let's go crush some brownies".  LOL.

I knew Rio was going to be at the bar waiting for Beth.  Her look of sheer dumbfoundedness was, IMO, excellent work on CH's part.   Rio was so cute with Marcus, so I knew the transformation talking to Beth was going to be chilling.

Oh, Annie. Girl, why did you go back to the hot child psychologist?!  We all know how this is going to end up.  Greg is a real dick, so I'm not surprised he barged into her apartment to justify blaming his consensual cheating on her.

Stan and Ruby's plot was interesting.  I notice their family are some of the few ppl of color faces when they are out, so I wondered if that was going to be addressed.  I see both sides of it.

Any bets on when Dean cheats with his boss?  I like the tables turning on that since it seems that Dean always cheated with people he had authority over.  Still sucks for Beth (who certainly may not be hittin' it with Rio anytime soon...what with the attempted murder).

"Those" people? Yeesh, that could've taken a wrong turn.

Rouge.

Beth's poor kids didn't know whether to obey her or Darth Grandma.

OMG, how did the good girls think it was going to work out hiring convicts as employees in a criminal enterprise? I'm surprised Beth didn't get beaten up or worse. But maybe parolees are just vulnerable enough since they really don't want to lose their jobs and possibly get sent back to prison.

Beth said now she's going to make some "real" money. Grandma seemed suspicious though. Wonder if she'll start nosing around and become a threat to the good girls?

Rio isn't a very big guy. Come on, how did he survive all those bullets, especially since they were fired at close range?

Did we know that Ben's name was now Ben before tonight?  I had missed that because I found myself wondering about it prior to last night's show.

The Girls were pretty dumb to just give that guy the money when he'd already shown he wasn't dealing with them honestly. Though I guess by that point, they didn't have much choice since he knew who they were, where Beth lived, where she worked, and exactly what they were doing.

I think this is the first time we've heard his new name. He also seems to be presenting as fully male now, as opposed to the more androgynous look of last year. I like how they're rolling out this story. I think it's the one thing they're letting Annie do right. Otherwise she annoys the living daylights out of me.

I'm still not entirely convinced that James Lesure's character is positively, absolutely dead dead.

I was shocked to see Ethan Suplee!  Dude was a huge part of my 90s life!  I loved his ex-con character delivering the money to Beth at the end; it was well handled.

Oh my god, that was him?  Wow.  He looks like in a lot better shape now, right?

Oh, Annie. Girl, why did you go back to the hot child psychologist?!  We all know how this is going to end up.  Greg is a real dick, so I'm not surprised he barged into her apartment to justify blaming his consensual cheating on her.

I've seen this before on shows too when the person should just ask the psychologist out on a date!  And see a therapist you're not romantically interested in!  But oh no, that would be way too logical!

Stan and Ruby's plot was interesting.

It was!  You're right!

Any bets on when Dean cheats with his boss?  I like the tables turning on that since it seems that Dean always cheated with people he had authority over.  Still sucks for Beth (who certainly may not be hittin' it with Rio anytime soon...what with the attempted murder).

Was that Ione Skye?  (Checks Wikipedia)  It was!

The Girls were pretty dumb to just give that guy the money when he'd already shown he wasn't dealing with them honestly. Though I guess by that point, they didn't have much choice since he knew who they were, where Beth lived, where she worked, and exactly what they were doing.

It drives me crazy how Beth acts, and it seems so unrealistic for her to live her life with so many criminals / people who are angry with her who know where her children live.  No way!

Completely agree. And all good will she amassed with me during that scene disappeared when she was like "Hey, what's wrong with you?" to a kid in the therapist's office.

I don't get all the guys that constantly fall for her.  She's awful.

I thought the whole point of that scene was actually Annie reassuring the kid that he's totally fine, and that his parents should be the ones getting counselled.

I was initially glad this show was coming back, but after these past 2 episodes, I’m not so sure.  I feel like it’s the same plot line over and over and over for all 3 main characters.  And maybe that’s what the writers are intending?  That once you make bad decisions, you keep making more bad decisions?  But I am tired of the same story every week/season...Dean is a serial cheater, Beth could be a bad ass boss, but also wants to be the bestest PTA mom EVER!, Annie is a mess who will sleep with any man who maintains eye contact for 15 seconds.  I think the only people I like are Ruby, Stanley and Ben.

The whole scheme of getting strange criminals and parolees to launder the money....how else did they think that would go?  Of course the guy was going to attempt to wipe you out!  And even though it looks like Beth ‘won’ the battle by threatening the guy, Beth has put herself, her kids and her sister and friend in more jeopardy than when they worked for Rico!
