Rinaldo June 29, 2017 Share June 29, 2017 This is absolutely wonderful news. (And I fully believe that Netflix loves it too -- but just imagine the multimillions they've been hemorrhaging with every episode, for years.) Despite the hedging in this letter with "after that... who knows?" I hope they have the sense to tie everything up in a satisfying way in a true finale. I doubt that another reprieve like this could happen. But never mind all that. I'm just going to be happy right now! 7 Link to comment
SnoGirl June 29, 2017 Share June 29, 2017 I can't believe it! I definitely did not think that was going to happen! I love that the end of the letter says "Let's find out what happens to Wolfgang." I've been waiting for someone, anyone to say what would happen to him. Have any of the cast members posted anything?? I was hoping we'd get some Pride pictures with them together but this has been even better! 4 Link to comment

SnoGirl June 29, 2017 Share June 29, 2017 Buzzfeed posted an article about all the efforts people put in to try and save Sense8. I am in awe, I wish I had sent flipflops in, what a brilliant idea. The Sense8 Twitter posted as well, using a video. The best part was using Lito's dramatic scream, which I'm positive is going to be all over Twitter ad more people find out. 17 minutes ago, nosleepforme said: I never thought this was going to happen after their "we tried to make it work"-excuse. I think it's a testament to how passionate the Sense8 fanbase is, but I am also happy that the people at Netflix have come to their senses and realized that you don't cancel a cult show like this without offering a proper conclusion. Netflix calls it a "2-hour finale special", so I think they will give it a proper conclusion, while also keeping a door open for another miracle. I wonder though how much the special will cost and whether they'll continue to have multiple locations around the world or whether it will mostly be shot in London. Fingers crossed that they'll get at least a couple of location shoots around the world. Hey, I was apart of the Chuck Subway Campaign when I was in college. You never know what could happen between now and then. We got more than one season of Chuck after that. I feel like the Global Cluster needs to focus its efforts now on building the fanbase. Wooohooo Sense8! 2 Link to comment

Granted, Dead Like Me came back with a subpar movie. Oh I get that. I'm a victim of Pushing Daisies, Agent Carter and a ton of Fox shows (to the point where I refuse to watch Fox shows until the second season). But Chuck, now that was a gift. 1 Link to comment
Lady Calypso June 29, 2017 Share June 29, 2017 Yes! I was really hoping that they'd give them the closure that they very much deserve! Even if the two hour final episode is it, at least they're given the chance for closure, something that a lot of cancelled shows never get to do. It's going to be a lot to wrap up as much as possible, in case they don't get another miracle like this one, but I have faith that they can do it. I do think the half a million signatures on that one petition, followed by plenty more media uproar, had Netflix reconsider how the show was being perceived. Even outside of ratings, there's always more to it and the fans really showed that side. 5 Link to comment
justmehere June 29, 2017 Share June 29, 2017 Someone posted yesterday in the comments for an article about the revival of Tales of the City that Netflix had agreed to a Sense8 movie but didn't provide details. Even one of the staff of the site (TV Line) replied asking for info. No idea how that person knew, but now, confirmed!!!! I am so freakin' happy right now. Of course I'd hope for more beyond, but this is like a little miracle, and I am ridiculously grateful. 1 Link to comment

I know I need to find better things to be happy about but I was just so upset that this show got cancelled without an ending. Now we can at least get one. Even a two hour finale is better then an open ended "You want a war we'll give you a war." bullshit. Netflix we can be friends again. Putting Sense8 back on my homepage. On topic, I was semi-right about the celebratory tweets on twitter. A lot of people were using Lito giphies in their posts, however not the screaming dramatic Lito from this season. Others were using giphs where all eight Sense8's were in them. I saw tweets from Freema Agyeman, Tony Onwumere, Alfonso Herrera, Tina Desai and Brian Smith thanking fans in various levels of sheer glee. I laughed that Max Riemelt's twitter (which is apparently run by his social media team) just retweeted the announcement. I thought it was very Wolfgang of the account to acknowledge the renewal but not post anything more than it. These actors have to have a group text between them all. I would kill to see what they all sent to each other when the renewal went through. I hope they were together when they found out, it would be bittersweet. 1 Link to comment
tennisgurl June 30, 2017 Share June 30, 2017 (edited) I would totally do a rewatch! I haven't seen the first season in awhile, and I would like to talk about it with you guys, now that we know more about what's going on, and where the story is going. Plus, I'm still riding my Sense8 high, and I want to keep it going! You know, I actually speculated (mostly joking) earlier in this thread that this whole thing was a publicity stunt that Netflix was putting on, that only the execs at Netflix knew about. They would cancel the show, the fans would freak out and make a huge splash online and drum up lots of free press, than be the hero and bring the show back in some form. I mean, Netflix cancels a show that is super expensive and not hugely successful in the general public, so a cancelation is believable, but also has a large and dedicated cult audience with a big social media presence, on the first day of Pride month, which pisses off fans even MORE, and makes themselves look like jerks. This gets lots of publicity for the show, both in the cancelation, and in the massive fan backlash (I remember lots of legit news sites covering it), and gets the fans all organized, and screaming about the show all throughput Pride month, and telling people to watch it and how great it is, and making a huge push on social media. Then, when Pride month is almost over, they show up again and get to play Big Damn Heroes by giving fans a two hours finale, and they get to look like the good guys who care about their fans. The equivalent of a person punching you in the face, then giving you a pack of ice, and you thanking them for saving your face. Alright, I know that's probably not what happened, but the whole cancelation was super sketchy from the start, and this...would kind of explain a lot. Alright, I know that's probably not what happened, but the whole cancelation was super sketchy from the start, and this...would kind of explain a lot. I thought the same thing. It all seems super sketchy. Plus I think a lot of contract negotiations were going on. I mean dude. Everything about this at best seems like a tone deaf decision that got reversed. At worst it seems like a super sketchy plan to make Netflix look like heroes while getting a better read on the actual demographic of the fans of the show. 2 Link to comment
Boundary July 1, 2017 Share July 1, 2017 I don't find the sketchy plan feasible - it was just a misjudgement. Netflix generally don't make dumb decisions but this was certainly one of them. They thought cancelling 2 expensive shows at once would give them a pass and overlooked everything else, especially the social media presence of fans. But the fan backlash was stronger than anyone could have imagined; whoever made the decision tried to stick it out but I suspect his/her higher ups, perhaps even Sarandos or Hastings themselves, saw the pummelling the Netflix brand was taking and decided to quieten fans down. Looking at it that way, a two hour special seems like a very cheap way out of a PR crisis, a full season 3 was in order (but that'll really also make us too greedy as fans, won't it?) 3 Link to comment

I've indulged in such fantasy-spinning about favorite shows in the past myself, but in reality it's not how such things work. Looking at the bottom line (I mean this show is ridiculously expensive to make), cancellation was an entirely reasonable decision -- it just didn't allow for the really intense loyalty of the fans. The whole month I'd been thinking to myself "Couldn't they at least spring for a movie to wrap it up?" And now that's what'll happen. 1 Link to comment

kieyra July 14, 2017 Share July 14, 2017 (edited) They're up against a lot of competition from really outstanding actors, and high profile shows like Handmaid's Tale. (And a few less outstanding shows, like a certain nighttime soap I won't name.) But I think more to the point is that this kind of high-concept ... I guess SciFi? for want of a better term ... show rarely gets recognition. It took Game of Thrones to break through the SF&F genre wall, and that thing was such a monster they couldn't ignore it. I'm particularly thinking of Battlestar Galactica's omissions here. (Disproving my point, I suppose, is that they did actually give Tatianna Maslany that win, which shocked the hell out of me, but I suppose they could only ignore the feat of one actress playing five or six different roles per episode for so many seasons.) But, however hard it is to remember objectively now, that first season was recognition-worthy. It took a bad turn toward the end of that season, but during the summer was easy to excuse that as a blip, rather than a premonition of how disappointing the show was going to become from then on. Which of course sours the memory of that first season, looking back. Edited July 14, 2017 by Rinaldo 2 Link to comment

Actually, Orphan Black was similarly ignored initially, until clamour from all sides led to Tatiana's well deserved recognition. Another factor is that I don't think Netflix submitted anyone for the major categories, I am led to believe the show was missing from the Netflix FYSee installation. Even though I love the show, to be fair only Doona would deserve to be considered this year. 1 Link to comment

First my tears began at the song What's Going On as forever that song and this show will go together for me like salt and pepper. The magnitude of what every fan has done by responding in such definitive terms of love for this show has changed what would have been a massive loss...of the show denied an ending. It sincerely crosses all boundaries and barriers as we all watch it for different reasons and in each of our own ways finds its profoundness in our hearts. I'm probably not expressing myself well but as a viewer I am truly grateful to all of you other watchers for making your wish known to continue this magical show forward. Go and look at their Twitter account and it becomes very, very clear how this company uses everything with a mix of joking wink, pretending to care (they do things like using a hashtag like BlackLivesMattter to promote their stuff!). Nope, they don't really care about any matters but their money bag, while pretending to be progressive . Makes me sad to see, how many fans fall for it in a mix of naivity, ignorance, desperation and obsession for the show. Some wouldn't mind to prostitute the show even, because that would be pretty much what a sale to xHamster could be called. Meanwhile media of course love the scandal in sensationalist manner.
