Morning Joe: All Episodes Talk

Message added by dubbel zout

Discussion of the hosts regarding a specific episode is fine here, but generalized discussion of the hosts go in the The Hosts Thread: Joe and Mika Know Their Value.

I find that Mika frequently chimes in with one or two word affirmations to validate whatever Joe is talking about. It’s distracting.

It would be fun if you could hear the doorbell ring at the bunker , and Mika left the set to go answer the door.

I find it profoundly sad for this country that the bulk of the conversation on the show today focused on how the networks were going to counteract tonight’s anticipated presidential lies. Like, not IF he lies...but WHEN he lies.

At least we don't have to worry about somebody saying "Trump became President tonight".

I find the show unwatchable lately, although I try from time to time. The Brady Bunch boxes clearly have impacted Mika badly - she says things or makes weird sounds when the camera isn’t on her and it’s incredibly distracting. Panelists who are sitting together are not sure whether to look at each other or the camera. It’s a mess. Add that to Joe wasting time talking about college football with Joe Manchin.  I did smile though when someone said “Roll Tide” and Mika, offscreen, said “Oh, yeah. Roll damn Tide.”

The current product set up is very annoying. I can’t think of any cable network show that would allow the hosts to broadcast from their home. Why won’t MSNBC let them build a studio in Florida ?

Delurking to say the show today was unwatchable, as it has been for the past few months/weeks.

I've been a regular/uninvolved viewer and it's been a sort of background part of my morning for YEARS but this new format is frustrating beyond belief, I actually went online to try to find some explanation (I assumed there was some family illness? But it appears the hosts have moved for tax reasons to Florida without bothering to move the actual studio, makeup people, camera people, lighting people, wardrobe people). Do the hosts not know how terrible it is now, and how different it is? Are there no execs or even interns who can TELL them? Today's show was a prime example, poorly lit, confusing, low-energy, stale.

Are there any complaints mechanisms with MSNBC? The only thing I found was this address: MSNBC, 30 Rockefeller Plaza New York, NY  10112. So I intend to write them a snail mail letter addressed to both "Morning Joe" and copied to "Complaints/Feedback department" (assuming there is one, which there must be).

I want the hosts back in NY, the show moved to Florida, or new hosts entirely, I don't even care which one, as long as they stop making me watch a Skype teleconference every morning.

Beyond that, are there any e-mail addresses for complaints? I heard the hosts read their instagram comments, is it advisable to complain (gently, politely) there, as their accounts are open to the public?

I'd complain to MSNBC via twitter.  You can complain to Joe and Mika, but it will fall on deaf ears.  They don't care about anything but people telling them how awesome they are.

I get the feeling in the next few months a change is going to happen.

I doubt MSNBC read or care about Twitter. Part of the collateral damage of the whole Russian social media campaign is that no one politically active in the public eye reads or cares about Twitter comments as it is always 90% bots with harrassing defamatory comments - just look at Joe's/Mika's/MJ's tags. So unfortunately legitimate, poignant, helpful criticism gets lost in all the spam.

No, I think snail mail is the way to go.

And as for instagram, it's worth a shot. I think they are just too powerful right now to have any execs (who prob don't even WATCH and just look at ratings, which are still good due to the Trump effect) or staff (who are too scared) actually tell them how terrible it is. So I just think repetition is the key. If they hear it from several fronts maybe it will finally filter through into their bubble that people are unhappy.

Very well said. ! Joe did complain on the show about the high tax rates he had to pay when he was living in Connecticut.  The state refused to cave in to his demands ,so he moved to Florida. Joe also said on the show that had to deal with world leaders & politicians frequently coming up to him in NYC and asking for his opinion on issues. He can avoid them in Florida.

And the Hillary hate continues.  How does Joe & Mika know Warren is more popular than Hillary Clinton? She announced she might run a week ago, there have been no primaries, she has no policy papers, no foreign policy stance, but she's great at making awkward videos of herself opening a beer.

I actually wonder if Mika knows Warren’s policy or if she just hitching in to a woman. Mika isn’t exactly progressive.

Well I didn't watch the show yesterday nor the circus last night so let's tune in shall we?  Ok, very funny opening montage and oh good my favorite Heidi is going to be on.  Joe fires up the morning drone about the speech last night and gets his smug on about I told he's a day trader (yes, several hundred times thank you) . . . click.

Oakville, thanks for that post about their ratings.

Joe was furious that valuable network TV time was given up for trump's speech. Joe & Willie were demanding that the network be tough on Trump when he asks to speak to the nation.

Joe was mad that Trump's speech was boring & didn't offer new information.

Nice to see Heidi in the library.

The latest ratings. Much higher than expected.

This indicates they could change hosts and ratings probably wouldn't suffer, since most viewers are fed up with the current situation.

No one can be watching for Joe & Mika, as they hardly participate when they do show up.  Mika's still a glorified news reader, and Joe just blathers about the same thing over and over.

Joe was concerned about the poll that showed that 51% of Democrats are now Liberals. It was 25% when Clinton was elected. Swan said there was more support for higher taxes on people making $10M. Heidi got Joe to smile when she mentioned that he was in Congree when there were Blue Dog Democrats. Joe loves talking about his days in Congress.

Joe did not focus on Chuck & Nancy . Kasie! is now wearing glasses ?

Joe now favours secure borders. Joe does't like heroin smugglers. Mika was muttering through Joe's rant.

Joe's new phrase today is "Ports of Entry"

Yeah he seems really concerned about heroin for some reason. I mean yes it's a problem, but he kept saying "heroin" over and over like Trump repeated "crisis".

Poor Joe. He's having a hard time reconciling the fact that progressive policies are gaining in popularity in the US, it's just that voters would like someone under the age of 70 to be the messenger.

It would probably be the UPS guy.  I doubt they have any friends who would drop by.  Seriously.  You'd sit there while Joe bloviates about (fill in the blank) while Meeka gazes at him ala Nancy Reagan, muttering yes, mmm hmmm, wow.

I'm watching the show on Central time this week. But I tuned into CNN first at 5 am. Breaking news Rod Rosenstein is leaving DOJ when new AG is confirmed.

A few minutes later I tuned to MJ. There is low energy blathering about last night's non speech. I only watched the first hour. Was the Rosenstein story ever covered?

Uh oh. I can't bear to watch Doris Kearns Goodwin anymore. I love history. I love hearing or reading about how FDR united the nation during WWII. But this is a bridge too far. Bye bye DKG.

Is it my imagination or is Joe increasingly letting others moderate discussions about anything more complicated than DC cocktail party chatter? It seems like Willie is doing more of the heavy lifting and in one instance (I think it was a deep dive into Syria) Joe sat back and let a guest interview the other guests.

Or has it always been that way?

I just started watching Morning Joe over the last 6 months here and there (I usually watch sports news in the am), anyway, as a new viewer I have been wondering about why Joe and Mika were always broadcasting from somewhere else. Your posts clarifies that for me (I thought it was wedding related at first), but here is my other question, if they are both together in Florida, why don't they appear on the same screen together? I was thinking that she was in one place and he was in another, then that confused me because they just got married, so as a new viewer, I have been totally confused! lol I do like some of the pattern shirts/dresses that Mika wears. Sort of a Diane VonFurstenberg (sp) look.

The high ratings concern me. Perhaps, Mika & Joe have convinced MSNBC to give them a contract extension and allow them to stay in Florida? . In the past, Joe has mentioned that he has powerful friends at the network.

Joe has been taking some veiled shots at AOC. Yesterday, he said progressives have to tell the truth when they were talking about her 60 minutes interview.

I think he is too afraid to confront her directly though. Has she ever been a guest on Morning Joe ?

I did notice that Joe is more laid back now. It’s hard to moderate a debate from a bunker in Florida. Joe still does like to be long winded when trying to ask a question.

She actually was on once shortly after she won her seat. Joe was dismissive and kind of oddly hostile toward her, while Mika pretended to be supportive of young women.

Catching up with the end of the show. Joe left the show for the 8:30 am segment to walk the dog. There is a picture of him walking the dog on twitter. Mika had trouble reading the teleprompter. Her comment on Rosenstein leaving as Deputy Attorney General was Yikes!. Mika said she still mistakes with using the wrong language. She defended the Democratic Congresswoman who was swearing about Trump. Adrienne Elrod was the new guest. She said not to use profanity as part of your regular Congressional speeches.

I love Senator Chris Coons and always enjoy his appearances on the show. Without Blowhard & Ditz on set, we actually got to hear some substantive policy discussions.

Still, I think they are being extraordinarily disrespectful to their viewers with their constant absences, split-screen appearances, and general shenanigans. That's not the formula that made the show successful or, frankly, watchable. If they can't manage to show up on set, they should pass the torch to someone who can (Stephanie Ruhle & Ali Velshi, perhaps?)

You  have got to be kidding me.  Missed most of the show today due to house guests who are not political and will not engage in political discussion (i.e., griping and swearing).  I was so sorry since what I caught was a pretty good show/discussions.  I even enjoyed Barnicle's description of Trump - "an empty vessel" - said with just the right tone of sarcasm and horror and resignation.

If Heidi were to replace Mika, would any of us notice in 2 weeks?  And in 3 weeks we'd forget the platinum haired big boobed matron that used to chirp syllables while other people spoke and would Ron Burgundy the teleprompter news copy.  "Mika? Who?"

Barnicle tried so so hard this morning to be sagacious and weighty.  It hurts my ears.
Donny called Trump "impotent" three times in about 20 seconds.  No accident.  He's trying to make #impotent happen.

It is stunning how much MSNBC coddles Joe and Mika. And at the same time they are condescending to the viewers by not acknowledging what we know, that they have a Potemkin Village in Florida and that Joe and Mika's schedule is determined by the parties they want to attend (Christmas, CT inauguration) as much as their actual "job".
