Episode Discussion: TFGH

It's basically embarrassing when GH, for the millionth time, tries to insist that THIS violence is bad, bad, bad, but THAT violence is okay and should be ignored or seen as a sign of heroism.

So Julian being violent with Alexis, threatening her, and everything that was going on today is bad, bad, bad.

BUT.

Sonny threatening the lives of THREE women in the last six months? Is okay.  Franco being a romantic partner for ANYONE? Is okay.  Nikolas getting a new adventure storyline and romantic interest in Ava after trying to murder his last bed partner, getting away with it and more people being horrified/hostile by said bed partner, Hayden, lying about her past and name than they are with Nikolas, in cold blood, trying to murder said woman.  Jason getting to be in a romance with anyone? Okay.

It's EMBARRASSING. It's PATHETIC.

They just don't get it. They never have and they never will. This show will be canceled and Sonny will be the one to turn off the lights.

I haven't been watching, but Julian and Alexis are still married, right? Has anyone on the show addressed that the one person who can't be wired up to get a confession is that person's spouse?

Or is that supposed to be some bombshell dropped at the trial, and everyone's like "huh, how would we, with our law degrees and decades of law enforcement experience, have possibly known that."

I mean, Alexis will now be able to testify all she wants about what Julian did to her. She holds the testimonial privilege. But Julian holds the conversation privilege.

I'm not a lawyer, so I could be wrong, but I think if a spouse agrees to help or testify or whatever, spousal privilege can be waived.

Under New York law, as I remember it (it's where I went to law school), Alexis holds the testimonial privilege. She can choose to testify or not. Julian holds the communication privilege. Anything he tells her in the course of the marriage is privileged. There are some exceptions, but I'm not aware of one for confession of a past crime. That's typically right in the wheelhouse of the privilege.

The exceptions I know of are for solicitations to commit future crimes or conspiracies between the spouses to commit a crime together (the former is what happened when Lulu tried to convince Dante to commit perjury -- Dante was allowed to testify that his wife had entreated him to commit a felony).

I was only wondering if the show had even addressed the issue. If they had brought it up to shoot down the idea with "soap law," then it's highly likely that they'd allow the confession to stand at trial. If no one's even mentioned it, though, I fear that this will be a "bombshell" dropped at the trial, and Julian walks away free. That's my concern. Ehh, "concern" is too heavy a term at this point given my level of ennui. But it'd be nice to have Julian gone for good.

Bree Williamson is trying too hard to be a bad girl. Girl, stop.

And Ryan Paevy can't act. This is going to be a long summer unless she's just here to kill Nathan, then off herself.

Has Julian always had psychotic tendencies? They are laying it on thick. I half expect him to rape her next. God.

I agree about Bree, but I thought RP actually seemed lively today. Guess working with two new people perked him up. And lol at his face when Maxie talked about the Lucky affair. Yup, that's the chick you've been dating for years buddy.

I gather Julian/Alexis were the offensive stuff? I FFed them so I don't know.

@Thorpe Julian was fine with killing Michael and Morgan so yeah he's always been a loose cannon [insert joke about understanding why he'd wanna off them]

Claudette looks like Francine from American Dad. I feel bad comparing the actress to a cartoon character, but that's exactly who she reminds me of.

I was thinking that Claudette and Lulu were apparently separated at birth. Or the poppet and wig mold that they used for Lulu were re-purposed.

As I predicted, Anna's obsession with #JusticeforDewq has put Alexis's life in danger. Why didn't Jordan have a sympathetic judge awake and waiting to write the warrant? With the DA and the Police Commissioner directly involved in the sting, surely a judge would cooperate. And if Julian's gang was smart enough to disable to van, surely they spotted Jordan dispatch an officer with the evidence files, followed and overcame him, and grabbed the files. A very amateur effort by the PCPD.

Did Julian's gang put a banana in the van's tailpipe, a la Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop?

I found myself hoping that Kristina had a wee pocket somewhere on that outfit to carry condoms for her breezy spontaneous dude seductions. Modest Aaron had not apparently planned ahead for such an encounter.

Oh, and I wouldn't put it past mixed-up Kristina to have murmured "Parker" on purpose just to mess with Aaron's head.

Oh for fuck's sakes, Sonny paid for the town's fireworks?!?!  These writers are shameless.

I lost my mind over that. This show, man. All of us still watching are part of the problem!

I know it's not what I'm supposed to want but I really did just want Julian to pull a murder suicide on the docks and save us all from having to watch their dysfunctional relationship anymore.

My sister watched with me today and she said this exact thing lol.

His voice is so bad. I feel bad for judging him on something he can't control but it's just so embarrassing.

So am I the only one who has always had minimal issues with Molly Burnett and thinks she might make a viable Christina Baldwin? It's cool, I'll wait

I like her. Sure her mouth makes weird movements sometimes, but I can easily overlook it.

So how are they gonna pivot Sonny into position to save Alexis?  Because it's not like a cop is gonna save her, and Alexis surely can't be expected to save herself. #alltheeyerolls

Sonny will be out on the docks inspecting the outcome of his paternalistic firework diversions. So naturally he will run into them poised on the docks. Or Jason will step through the wormhole from casa Cassadine and perform the rescue.

Well Julian is pretty stupid bringing the murder weapon to her house and confessing and only figuring out afterwards that she is wired.  But other than making me happy, what does disappearing Alexis do for him?

But the stupidest thing was that the Keystone Cops couldn't get a judge to get a warrant cause it is July 4th.  But they knew it was July 4th so why did they set it up for that night?  I really hate Anna now more than anything.

Claudette can only be Lisa Niles 2.0 at this point which means her place on the show ain't for long. Nathan told Maxie everything about the shooting and he exposed Claudette as his ex-wife. What's her story now besides psycho ex-wife murderess to be? I can now see why the actress was hired as recurring.

I thought that Maxie told Nathan everything about her past. And we actually discussed that here in the last few months or so. Oh well, why should I be surprised that they can't get continuity right.

No, she never did. I remember because I think that's what the debate was about - me or someone else mentioned that it was a bit much of Maxie to get riled up over Nathan's past when hers was so shady, and someone replied that they had gotten the impression that Maxie told Nathan everything there was to tell, and there was disagreement over that. But there was never a scene where Maxie told him about Lucky and pillowena explicitly.

I did take notice of this second Lucky mention in, what, under a month?  But of course, he can't be mentioned in relation to his kids, not when there's a SERIAL KILLER playing Daddy Dearest. #eyeroll

Oh, Lisa Niles 1.0 hung in there for quuuite a while.

But she ultimately ended up in a body bag nonetheless. I don't know what Claudette is around for with everything surrounding her exposed. Maxie certainly has no reason to want to work with her at this point. There's Griffin to contend with along with his holy purity, but I don't know what he'll contribute to anything unless Claud can convince him to become her partner-in-crime.

Isn't Alexis' house way out in the country somewhere?  How exactly did they get to the docks?  Did they walk?  Drive while holding a dagger?  It  makes no sense.

Why does Claudette have to be crazy with an agenda?  So far, I had liked what I saw of Bree (and I hate all newbies) so of course she's a mental case, who still has a thing for a guy she hasn't been with in 10 years, who she didn't want 10 years ago when she had him.

Love KS as Maxie, but gotta admit, I'm not hating MoBu in that role.  I'm actually having a hard time picturing KS being so calm in those scenes.

I can't see Claudette as being anything but a wacko and a troublemaker. Surely she's not in town to become a friend and a drinking buddy to the ex-husband who tried to kill her. Instead, she probably wants him as her lover. WACKO!

I really just don't understand this heel turn with Julian and Alexis after these writers were all, "Romance!  More romance!" when they came aboard.  They get married in mid February, he's holding a knife to her throat in early July?  Like...what?

Something happened BTS, IMO. This isn't soap couple angst. This is destruction. And I say that in an unbiased way bc I really don't care about them.

Could it be that the Julian/Alexis mob soap couple is the "foil" of the Sonny/Carly mob soap couple? That the trouble and scandal of the Jerome marriage throws the warm, loving, mutually propping Corinthos marriage into high relief, amplifying its goodness ? That the abuse and danger of the wife and child in the Jerome couple highlights and contrasts with the tender love, mutual support, and family loyalty in the Corinthos clan? </sarcasm>

I don't hate KS as Maxie, and I always gave her credit for her Maxie never reminding me of her Belle on DOOL, but I think MoBu is better at serious scenes. I'm imagining KS mincing and squeaking through that confession scene after they left Claudette's hotel room (which seems to be the only one at the Metro Court), and I don't think she would have done such a good job with it. MoBu is more grown up.

Like jsbt has mentioned, I don't think anything particularly new happened . . . I think FV got the word GH is safe for another year or two, so he went loose on things he may have been holding back on for the sake of ratings . . . giving Budig a contract, hiring Easton back, and cutting Julian/WdV loose.

I think KSt has been deeply bored for ages now, and has shown it (to be fair she's hardly the only one). I think Burnett has been okay, although I don't know if she's the right fit for Maxie. I'm still distracted by whatever's going on with her teeth/mouth though. I also think she and Paevey have so far shown more chemistry in today's episode than KSt and RP have in a while.

I was really hoping Aaron was an undercover Fed trying to get dirt on Sonny, but no, let's not do anything even slightly interesting, rather let's have him, for some reason, actually be interested in insipid, bitchy Kristina.  Fingers crossed for a totally 'who the frig cares?' triangle with those two and Parker.

Julian is such a BIG BAD now I'm shocked WdV wasn't ordered to grow a mustache just so he could twirl it.

Really surprised at what Julexis has become. I always got the sense that they were a writer's pet as far as pairings go.  Now we have Julian being a physically abusive psycho - threatening to murder the woman he claimed to love with the same knife that took her mother.

I guess I'm gonna be most interested in seeing Sam's reaction to all this. As for Molly, I can see her kicking herself for giving Julexis her blessing for marriage.

Where is the real Alexis?  The one who'd have a keychain made of Joolian's balls by now?  I'm so sick of her whimpering.

And right to the poster upthread who said they could put the wire anywhere in the house, it wouldn't have to be on Alexis.  And when she was about to be discovered?  Excuse yourself and get rid of the wire.  "Julian, I'll be right back after I go pee."  How hard is that?
