My initial reaction is its hard to put this on Goodell, but its not the first time issues like this have happened.  In fact, if you think about it, it seems to be a disturbing trend about lack of preparation before games and preparing stadiums for games

There was the Dallas SB, a ticket mix up leaves 400 fans who bought tickets without seats to the game

The SB in New Orleans between SF-Baltimore, the lights are gone in the middle of the damn game.

Now this, you can't prepare the field correctly for the one game a year played at this stadium for the first game of the year, even if it is preseason

Weather events happen, games get changed, those are things you can't control.  But these were all preventable it seems and well within league control.

The New Orleans thing was that the booster switch installed to make sure the lights didn't go out under unusual load in the aging Superdome failed.   So in that case, trying to fix the probelm caused the problem.

The Dallas Super Bowl had an unprecedented ice storm.   Which meant the work crews couldn't get in to finish the extra seating.   However, that was stupid to even have extra seating in the first place.

The problem with Canton is they try to do everything in the same place.   I've been to the Hall.   There is plenty of room out front to have the ceremony on the steps.   No reason to use the field for the concert and the ceremony and the game.

There was one other issue at Canton, filed under "Does Anyone Know What They Are Doing?"  The seating for the Enshrinement was all screwed up.  Sometime in the spring they brought in more bleachers, which changed all the seat numbering, however the tickets were based on the old seating chart.  When my family presented their tickets they were told they were invalid, someone had already entered with those seat numbers.  They had to go to the ticketing office so the agents could figure out a comparable place to seat them.  It turned out fine, but was another example of how unprepared the HoF/NFL was.

I enjoyed tonight's preseason game between the Cowboys and Rams. The LA Rams had a great turnout. I read that they sold over 89,000 tickets for tonight's preseason opener. The LA crowd seemed into the game and had a nice energy about them.

I was impressed with what I saw of Dak Prescott. I know it's only one preseason game, but he seemed confident, and poised on the field. I thought that overall he made pretty good throws and smart decisions on the field. I definitely want to see more of him and how he fares against other teams. I also enjoyed the play that Jameill Showers made when he escaped some tackles and threw a 47 yard completion. As far as the Rams goes,  I thought that Sean Mannion was solid tonight with the way he played and throwing 3TDs.  Rams WR Nelson Spruce also had a nice showing tonight.

I'm glad that Football is back. :)

It was kind of weird hearing Gruden without Turico.

ETA Well, now the NFL is feeling saucy in the wake of their court victory over Brady and is using the threat of suspension as a kind of subpoena power. If those players do submit to being "interviewed" I hope they answer every question with "fuck off."

Which is something James Harrison might actually do.

ETAA. Today Harrison (who has been the most vocal opponent of the interviews) was scheduled for a "random" drug test. I'm sure it was purely coincidence.

I've seen grumbling online that the NFL refunding the game cost and one night of hotels is not enough because they should also refund airfare.

I disagree with that, because if you flew to Canton on say Friday, and went to the ceremony on Saturday, you got your airfare's worth of entertainment.  The game was the least interesting thing of the entire weekend.

Refunding a night of a hotel is nice because people probably did stay the extra night for the game.

Thank you to all the 31 other teams that passed on Dak Prescott -- 4 times.

I like Dak and have been impressed with the way he has played preseason. He seems mature and he makes good decisions on the field. I hope he continues to do that. I am interested in seeing how he fares as a starter now that it's being reported that Tony Romo will probably be out for several weeks. It has just been reported that Tony will probably be out at least until mid-season, due to the back injury he got on Thursday.  I hope that Dak can step up and play well (or as well as he can as a rookie) for the first half of the season. At least there are some good pieces surrounding him. I like what little I saw of Ezekiel Elliot from Thursday's game. I thought he seemed strong and wasn't afraid of the competition. He challenged Kam Chancellor multiple times and surprised him. I hope he does well this season too.

Well, it looks like the Cowboys season is already over before it has even started. I can imagine what excuses ESPN will cook up when the Cowboys struggle this season.

The more I hear from Josh Norman, the more that I want him to shut up. I can't wait for him to fall flat on his face this season. Its bad enough that his beef with Odell Beckham Jr is still going & ESPN just won't shut up about it. Now that he signed with the Redskins in the off-season, now I have him & Odell griping at each other twice a year. I find both of them to be morons.

Odell Beckham Jr is still living off that sensual catch for the past couple of seasons & he hasn't done much for the Giants since. I can't even remember how many touchdowns he caught last season. And that Josh Norman have better enjoyed that Super Bowl last season with the Panthers because he will never be in another one.

He's only been in the league a couple of seasons. And in each one, he has been in the top ten in receptions, receiving yards and receiving TDs.

I don't know how much more he can do.

I'm so sorry that the Redskins picked up Josh Norman because I'm sick of him and his mouth already.  The season hasn't even started yet.  Gah!  So he owned Odell Beckham in one game and that seems to be his claim to fame.

I think that Josh will cut down on his trash talking after the season gets underway. I like him and look forward to seeing how he performs in Washington.

Also, I am interested in seeing what happens with the QB situation in Denver. The Broncos haven’t revealed who will play after him. Right now it looks like Mark Sanchez may not be their starting QB this season (though that could change). I had felt like the starting QB job was Mark's to lose and that he would beat out Trevor and a raw rookie Paxton Lynch. But that may not end up being the case. I’ve heard some discussion earlier this week that Mark may not even make the Broncos team. If so I wonder where he will end up going.

And I liked seeing Josh Gordon play again last night. Hopefully he will help out the Browns and stay out of trouble this time around. RGIII and the Browns are definitely going to need him. I've heard rumors about him possibly being traded, but it seems like both him and the Browns want him to stay put for now.

Actually I am optimistic about the Cowboys finally this season.   Prescott looks good.   He has a lot of potential.   As noted above, he has a lot of good players surrounding him.    Hopefully, he won't do the choke thing Romo does.   We have HOPE.

I too hope Romo retires while he can still walk.

As for Kapernick, he could so so much more.  Sitting during the national anthem accomplishes absolutely nothing.   Everyone is talking about whether it is respectful to sit or not.   They are NOT talking about the race problem in this country.   And where was he when Michael Brown was shot (close to St. Louis an NFL city, okay was).  When Freddie Gray was killed (Baltimore an NFL City).   Tavon Rice (Cleveland, an NFL city).   What has he done to keep Detroit from turing into a hellhole?  Nothing but play games in those cities and collect his game check.   Which his money and his national platform he could do so much to advance the debate or even effect real change.   Instead he literally sits on his ass.

Eli gets knocked down all the time, he just gets back up...unlike Romo.  Ba-dum-bump

As for the Giants our O-Line sucks so bad we'll end up with another losing season. What else is new?

Oh joy, Eli just threw a Pic...lovely

Kapernick did explain why he was doing it, the fact that people choose to harp on the respectful or not and ignore what he said is how a certain segment rolls, look at Gabby Douglas who wasn't making any sort of statement got raked over the coals on social media for not putting her hand over her heart.

He explained.   But people are still talking about what he did, not why he did it.   Which makes it a wasted gesture then.   He could have actually DONE something about the problem and get people talking about that problem.

Many people more famous/richer than Colin (I am a football fan, though not a 49ers fan, who lives in San Francisco and even here he is not that talked about that often) have done many, many things with time, money and attention and it hasn't gotten people talking. Hell I do see it as progress that both the NFL and the 49ers have been supportive given similar protests by the players of the NBA and WNBA have resulted in fines and suspensions.

Colin supports children's charities in the bay area but I wouldn't presume to know where he has contribute in other places.

Kaepernick is a jackass. If you want to support causes you believe in fine, but you don't act like a disrespectful douchebag while representing your organization. People of all races have fought and died so Colin can collect his multi million dollar paycheck.

Romo needs to retire, like yesterday. He's going to end up in a wheelchair if he keeps going like this. I'm sure Jerry can give him some cushy front office job if he wants to remain with the organization.

He's a good looking guy,  I have no doubt some channel would want him doing sports commentary.  He'll definitely have a life after football as either an Analyst or within the Cowboys organization.  I just hope he's smart enough to quit before he does permanent damage.

Not really about the paycheck, but people have fought and died for the right to protest our government be it using words, salutes, silence or even sitting down.

Personally I think Colin can do whatever he wants.  He sat down.  He didn't piss on the flag or burn it in front of a group of veterans.  He did as is his right according to the laws of this country.

Also, I respect Victor Cruz's opinion, but it's not really his place to say what another man should or should not do.  All I ask of you Victor is to catch passes and stay healthy.

Kaepernick chooses now to protest (as far as I know he did not do this previously or publicly protest in any manner during the offseason), just as rumors are being reported that he very well may not be the starting QB and/or be cut before the year is out. He then speaks to the press saying he doesn't care if he's cut because of his protests.  To me its coming across as using issues to gain publicity for himself & laying the groundwork to use this as an excuse for he losing his job instead of it being about football.

Every person has the right to protest.  However, he is doing while on the job and bringing negative press/controversy (not all is negative but much of it is) to his teammates and organization. The season is about to start and all the press is about him/his protest instead of the team and their upcoming season.

He's done his interviews with the media and everyone now knows why he is sitting. IMO, its time for him to stop doing interviews. Stand, sit, whatever but allow your team to be able to start their season without distraction.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't a reporter ask Kaepernick why he was sitting during the Anthem? If that's the case why shouldn't he say exactly why?  I find it incredibly off putting that so much (negative) attention is being heaped on him for exercising his American right to protest (silently I might add) yet hardly anyone has expressed outrage for WHY he's actually protesting.  If people got as worked up over the way minorities are treated...how some cops use us as target practice, the systemic and institutional racism that exists to destroy us, Kaepernick wouldn't feel the need to say and do what he did. Not to mention, this whole argument about locker room distraction is BS to me.  Because distractions don't stop teams from picking up players who abuse their wives or girlfriends, drive drunk, smoke weed, or whatever else.  It's only a 'distraction' if the player can't play.

The flag doesn't just represent the military.  It represents the entire country and it's supposed values. Black people have historically been devalued. Thats not opinion, that's fact. So for people to turn Kaep's protest over the Anthem into an attack or disrespect for the military is head scratching but not surprising.  Lets completely misrepresent what Kaepernick said so we can pretty much just ignore the problem like we've always done.

I'm happy athletes are using their voices to speak out. Kaepernick, MJ, Lebron, Melo, etc.  Whatever his motivation, Kaepernick is using his platform to bring attention to something that's bigger than him. Bravo.

The first thing I thought of when I heard about Kap was "why do we play the anthem at sporting events?" The follow up was the "he's doing it in the wrong way" canard. Because there's a "right way" that you (general) would have accepted. If the 9ers don't like it they can cut him. Otherwise boo hoo if you don't like it. Then don't watch.

I liked Mark Cuban's comments. It was something like, "he's sitting there. he didn't start a riot, fight, or shoot at anyone. he's just sitting down."

I hope he stands up next time and busts out the black power salute. Wrists will shatter like glass from the collective clutching of pearls.

I feel for Vikings fans right now.   I really do.   Bridgewater was looking good.   Even as a fan of other NFC North teams, I recognized his ability.

I am reading that this injury may be season ending. I hope it isn't and I wish Teddy a healthy recovery.

I wonder who they will get to replace him if he's out a long time? Maybe Mark Sanchez who I think may end up getting cut from the Broncos. Mark didn't play in last week's preseason game and it's being speculated that he may be released from the team. I also have seen Josh McCown and Geno Smith thrown out as suggestions to stand in for Teddy. Both the Browns and the Jets have QBs to spare so maybe one of these teams will be willing to trade a QB to the Vikings.

I don't have a problem with Kaepernick sitting down.  I haven't seen him since last season and I didn't see him much then, and I haven't seen anything he's written on twitter or other social media.  The only thing I knew about him was that he was iffy playing for the 49ers in the future.  So, I guess what I'm saying is, I always thought of him as kind of laid back with a Jason Kidd haircut (cut close so no one could see the "black" in him).  So, in my ignorance, I was surprised when he made the gesture of sitting during the national anthem to protest the way minorities are being treated--and then growing his hair out.  For me, all that just seemed to come out of nowhere and I said "Whaaaa???"

I am gutted for Teddy. What a terrible injury he had to endure- he's  lucky there wasn't arterial or nerve damage to the dislocated knee. Wishing him the best, and right now Mark Sanchez looks pretty good to the Vikings if the Broncos cut him. The Vikings can still have a decent defense behind AP and that defense, but teams will probably be expecting AP to run more which will decrease his numbers.

I don't have a problem with what Kaepernick is doing.  Doesn't matter if I agree with him or not.  He has a right to his opinion.  Its one of the very rights the flag stands for, which is ironic of course.  But the idea of basically forcing people to stand and salute the flag is in itself un-American.  You should do it out of pride and do it voluntarily.  Forcing everyone to do it defeats the very purpose of the act itself.

Huge blow for the Vikings, not sure where they go now.

Denver's offense this year is going to be pretty boring.  I know Manning last year was not great, but he at least knew how to get them into a play that could work and knew what might be exploited against a defense, even if physically he struggled to do so.  Now I think it will be line up and run it, doesn't matter what the D has in store for them.  Even Osweiler, he had not started but had a few years experience with the team and offense as the back up, knew how to run it.  I think teams will just load up the box and key on stopping the run game, which was not even great last year for Denver

My verdict: If I were in Colin Kapernick's shoes, I wouldn't protest like he's doing, but I applaud him for doing it. This is what freedom of speech is all about. Kapernick's not the first pro athlete to stand up for his beliefs by a long shot. Case in point: Muhammad Ali, who protested against racism, the draft and the Vietnam war, at great professional and personal cost, only to be vindicated and eventually revered for it. I'm not saying that Kapernick is even remotely at that level yet, but he's off to a good start. Consistency is the key. While Kapernick clarified his stance to say that he wasn't disrespecting the military-which IMO, he didn't-he needs to stand firm.

As for whether Kapernick did it for publicity, I don't think so because there are much easier ways of getting it than this. If anything, Kapernick has much more to lose than to gain by taking a stand, especially since he might be cut in a few weeks anyway. However, what I resent are the pseudo-intellectual "pundits" who accuse Kapernick of being "anti-White," "Anti-American" and "Anti-military." Worse, an ex-player named Rodney Harrison accused Kapernick of not being Black when Kapernick is part Black. News flash: Kapernick didn't check his First Amendment rights at the door when he turned pro. Like the saying goes, "To whom much is given, much is expected." Kapernick has the money, the the voice and the platform. How he uses them is up to him.

I feel awful for Teddy as well. That injury is just not good at all.  However, I don't think it's the Top Ten of brutal losses that turns one team from good to bad.  As mentioned, the defense and running game gives Minnesota hope.  I just don't think I would have picked them to finish over Green Bay WITH Bridgewater.  It's a shame since we'll never know. Definitely a significant loss, but I have belief that Minnesota will be okay.  Not as great as pre-injury but barring another big hit, they'll be okay

The media isn't letting this go.  One thing I would love for them to bring up is to question if fans are going to start telling players to leave the country or burning the jerseys of players who have been accused and/or convicted of domestic violence, assault, manslaughter, drug use etc. etc. etc.  Because all of those things are way worse than a peaceful protest.

I hate the Niners but have always had a fondness for Kap and am really starting to get angry about how he is getting treated.  It's bullshit.

And I can't really talk about morality in the nature of football because Josh Brown is on my team.

I really want some form of implosion in the NFL.

I'd also love to see and end to playing the anthem at domestic sporting events too. The cold war ended a long time ago.

Seems like the THs on ESPN & the NFL are newly educated on this whole freedom of speech/1st Amendment thing, and I'm happy for them.

Maybe going forward they'll stop being selective in their application of this defense.  Free speech doesn't just apply to speech that you agree with.
