I have never been a conspiracy theorist but the one conspiracy theory I believe 100% is that Emmy voters don’t actually watch any of the tv shows they are voting on.  They recognized a name or the network and get free merch (and since the wealthier networks spend more money to advertise they are more known and probably have better merch) and THAT is the show/actor they vote for.

12 Things I Learned Perusing All 886 Pages of the Emmy Ballots
Steve Pond   June 18, 2024
https://www.thewrap.com/emmy-ballots-2024-analysis/

Quote

The nominating ballots for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards went up online last Thursday, the first day of voting. They were separated into 35 separate fields covering 106 of the Emmys’ 118 categories, with the other 12 categories not included on the ballots because they’re decided by juries or panels.

The ballots covered a total of 886 pages, with a high of 239 pages for the 17 performer categories and a low of two pages for the 26 contenders in Outstanding Emerging Media Program.

We’ve looked through the ballots, and here’s some of what we learned.

Fewer contenders
A LOT of “SNL” submissions
Ken!
Actors playing themselves
Actors competing against themselves
EGOT chasers
Potential dominators
Shows that defied conventional wisdom
Shows that stuck with conventional wisdom
Category Hogs
One person, two names
The Multi-Cam Wild Card

Reservation Dogs, The Gilded Age and The Traitors finally made the cut for the top categories, while Shōgun, The Bear and Abbott Elementary lived up to expectations that they would earn nominations for the 76th annual Emmy Awards.

If it seems like the 75th Emmys just happened, it’s because they pretty much just did. The 2023 ceremony, after being delayed due to the impact of the Hollywood strikes, took place January 15 — right as the film awards season was ramping up. For this year, the Emmys return to their regular September slot: the 2024 Emmys ceremony is September 15 live on ABC. No host for that yet.

Shows on the Broadcast networks just don’t get any love or stand a chance anymore! They should have separated broadcast/cable/streaming years ago!

The Bear is still a “comedy “🙄

Lessons in Chemistry seems like a lifetime ago!

I agree, and I like The Bear.  I'm thrilled to see the nominations for Slow Horses, Fallout, and Shogun.

With all due respect to those who liked Mr. and Mrs. Smith, because I know everyone has different tastes (my son loved it), I absolutely hated it.  I don't get the love for it.

So disappointed.  It's same old, same old every year.  If you're a slumming movie star, you automatically get nominated.  Palm Royale taking a comedy nomination over Ghosts and Acapulco is incredibly annoying to me.  Also, The Bear is not a comedy, and the producers should be brave enough to enter it in the drama categories instead of going for a sure thing win in comedy.

Sorry about the quote box below.  I can't figure out how to remove it.

Dictionaries might as well add a second definition for comedy,
meaning:
A television series whose episodes run under 40 minutes

I read somewhere that that's apparently the criteria the awards shows do use. Which is...kind of dumb, 'cause yeah, more often than not dramas are an hour long and comedies are a half-hour....but in today's landscape, with streaming being iwhat it is and the fact that many epsiodes' run time within one series, be it comedy or drama, can vary, that sems an awfully limiting defintion.

Anywho, I haven't seen, like, pracitcally almost anything off this list of nominees this year, so I can't comment on most of these shows one way or another. I am sad that "Ghosts" continues to be overlooked at the Emmys, though. It'd be nice to see them get some Emmy love sometime.

At least, "Abbott", John Oliver, and Stephen Colbert got nominations. Not surprised by that, of course, but still. Yay :)!

Using the criteria of shows under 40 minutes are a comedy, then most of The Acolyte then qualifies as a comedy, which it is not. A LOT of the season’s episodes were 34-35 minutes.

I recently binge-watched all of Reservation Dogs, some of the most incredible television I've ever seen in my life, so I'm going to be hella pissed if that doesn't win Outstanding Comedy -- irrational as that is given I haven't seen any of the other shows besides The Bear, which I made it a whopping 2-1/2 episodes into before taking a hard pass.

I love the comedy Animal Control and it's too bad it wasn't nominated, even though it probably wouldn't have won.  Oh well, at least it's been renewed for another season, so I'm happy about that.

I got through season 1 of The Bear and I was done after that.

I'm pretty sure The Bear has most of the categories locked (including guest).  If anyone sneaks through I'm hoping Hannah Einbinder snags supporting actress. She had a phenomenal season on Hacks.

Glad to see Fallout and Walton nominated.  Hoping Ella Purnell would sneak in but no go for Goosy.

While this is often true, Emma Stone, who had been considered a lock for a Lead Actress in a Drama nomination, wasn't nominated, and she's one of the biggest movie stars there is right now.

I remember seeing a tweet (I think it was there) from an actor that said something like that while they don't believe The Bear is a comedy, they will still be voting for it to get nominated in the category it has been place into, becaure there is nothing they can do about it.

Technically there is. Don't vote for it when placed in comedy. That's how you send a message to production that they are doing category fraud.
