S05.E12: Check-Up With Dr. Drew, Part 2

Sorry, but Farrah and her mom and dad can shove it with their whole "Farrah was victimized and traumatized and should be supported, not scolded" story. It's as fake as Farrah's huge boobs - the video was a porno, made by professionals in the porn industry, with a director, lights, cameras, and a contract, not a leaked homemade sex tape made by two innocent people in a relationship. And everybody in the world knows it. Yet they continued this farce right after Dr. Drew once again pontificates about how this show is about showing the "truth," and wouldn't work otherwise. Yea, right, Drew. You really got to the bottom of that one!

Yeah, but really -- what are Michael & Debra gonna say? They are so far up her plastic surgery-ed arse and indebted to her bc she supplements their lifestyle with money, housing, plastic surgery, etc. And most importantly, because they want access to their granddaughter they pretty much have decided they have to go along and defend Farrah's nonsense if they want to keep Sophia in their lives and all the monetary perks that go along with it. They have to know they've made a deal with the devil, but it's the price they've chosen to pay.

Heh, Farrah probably supplied Michael and Debra with scripts to memorize so they'd get the dialogue down perfectly and probably did a quick table read to run their lines.

That was disgusting how they made Farrah out to be some kind of victim. If you insist on defending women who work in the sex industry as single mothers, then be honest about your own decisions and tell us why you made them.

Ugh, Tyler, you are still the worst.

So Farrah blackmails them to continue to be in Sophia's life? And they're supposedly in family therapy? Something's not right with this picture.

Exactly. It could have been an interesting follow-up to Farrah's life if they showed why Farrah went into porn (fame and fortune), or even if they explored her parent's honest feelings about their daughter making this decision. Dr. Drew even touched on this quickly when he asked Deborah how she felt about it, or whether or not she'd want Sophia to enter the porn world (although the word porn was never used...more whitewashing from MTV), and she said no, but then the subject was dropped.

Not sure why you wrote that Tyler is the worst (I'm guessing about his own segment), but at least he was the only one that said that Farrah hasn't been honest about the whole deal, and won't be honest about it in her segment, and he was right.

So Farrah pretty much admits that she never has Sophia. "From what I've heard, she's doing good." You mean, you don't know how your child is?! She's a horrible mother and a horrible person. She only wants to play the Mom role when it's convenient for her. I wish Simon would just leave her already. It's clear that he was annoyed as fuck over Soph being a total brat. I'm guessing he's digging the free publicity for his furniture store, or whatever the hell he's got.

I am forever grateful that Teen Mom has ended, hopefully permanently, and I never have to watch Farrah and Debra LIE so blatantly about the shitty life choice Farrah makes over and over again. Her only redeeming quality is that she hasn't dragged another kid into the picture.

Whatever happened to the "We don't believe in sex before marriage. You want to go to Heaven with us" bullshit they use to espouse?  Did it go out the window when James Deen's penis penetrated Farrah for money?

I am forever grateful that Teen Mom has ended...

And how about Amber's terrifying answer to Panda about how, what they really need in order to show the audience the truth about teen parenthood, is another season!? Such a shameless plug to keep the checks rolling in...

If it's not renewed (please, please, please...!), we'll hear a bunch of garbage about how they didn't bring enough salacious drama and that's the only reason it failed, ugh. I truly expected that someone in this group was actually doing something in terms of building a life or an identity, but it's a definite no on that front. The concept for the reboot would actually work if anyone was going to school, working, building a home, whatever, but s-o-m-e-t-h-i-n-g. I do think there might be a real following and interest if anyone had tried to take even a few steps in any direction. Six years is a long time not to even really quit a job or drop out halfway through some type of schooling. The sofas featured in TM are the hardest working (and most honest) cast members of the show.

At least the show ended the way it started this season: With nothing happening

It's so true, the entire boring check-up was just an echo of the worst season ever. I thought I was looking forward to this week, but realized tonight that I was actually wanting to see the steaming hot mess that is the new season of TM2 (they were running promos during the last show), and there was just nothing to see here at all. At least TM2 will be an unmitigated disaster with a whole lot of evidence of honest behavior if no actual admissions.

If you insist on defending women who work in the sex industry as single mothers, then be honest about your own decisions and tell us why you made them.

This goes for each woman featured. If they were honest, told us why they want what they want and what their motivations are, there might be something worth opening one's eyes for. Instead, they're trying to pawn off lie-filled crumbs of stories for fear of legitimate questions or criticism. I'm over the supposed stats on teen pregnancy the show keeps spouting, but I am interested in the 100% positive rate for the TM girls experiencing total arrested development, complete famewhoredom, and enough denial between 4 people to keep a rehab up and running for a decade.

But Catelyn's planning on taking college courses....online.....maybe. She repeated it, rather defensively, because she needs to keep that adoption narrative going for their speaking engagements. How old are she and Tyler now? What is her excuse for not going to school these past couple of years?

Come to think of it, between Teen Mom 1 and 2, are any of the mons working or going to school? Chelsea from Teen Mom 2 is the only one I can think of, if she's still working in a salon. And Farrah, collecting check after check for whatever she does. But I think that's it. The rest just sit on their couches.

I guess I shouldn't have expected this to be anything but odd, but what a weird show.

I enjoyed seeing Theresa (Teresa?) with Nova. Tyler had a sort of psycho look on his face when he was walking around backstage, but everyone seemed calm on the couch so that was good. Theresa seems like a very loving Mom, and I'm glad she and Catelynn have been able to maintain a good relationship. As far as I can tell Carly got an awesome family out of that whole deal. On a shallow note I thought Catelynn looked really good, too.

I also enjoyed Farrah actually calling her Dad father and/or dad.  I get that the first name was kind of a family thing but it always seemed bitter or angry to me. I still think Farrah's completely full of crap and her family is mostly hanging around for the money.  Also that weird response about how Sophia's doing, "from what I've heard..." meaning what?  You never actually see the kid? I was also confused by the whole Simon thing - oh, no, he's here, he just doesn't want to be filmed, not sure why (apparently he'd rather be backstage watching Sophia and getting smacked by her?).  It seemed like something Farrah might've discussed with him?

The whole thing at the end about everyone all being buddies now seemed so fake to me. My bet is Maci and Farrah never speak again unless (whoever-you-believe-in forbid) this show is renewed for another season. I imagine the other girls do talk, though.

Was it just me or did Leah look way bigger/older than the other kids when they brought the kids out at the end?  I don't mean weight, just generally she looked really big to me comparatively speaking. I am terrible at guessing kids' ages, but if I were to guess the other kids at 6 I would've thought she was 8 or so. Doesn't really matter, just something I re-wound for a couple of times because I couldn't believe it was even her.

Theoretically Jenelle (TM2) is supposed to finish whatever degree she's been going for in the medical field soon (ha... if anyone is nuts enough to hire her). From what I've read Chelsea (also TM2) is doing well. Farrah seems fairly busy making sex toys and club appearances - even if you don't agree with her line of work she certainly seems to stay busy.  Other than speaking engagements here and there, the rest don't seem to be doing a whole lot.

I'm so confused by Farrah's segment. So she was taken advantage of and is a victim of a trauma in regards to the leaked sex tape. So was she forced to make and sell molds of her asshole against her will after that? I was confused about the butthole and vagina molds and wished we got some clarification on that.

Yawn, boring. I fell asleep through half of Farrah's part and didn't even bother to rewind. All I got was Deborah shamelessly sucking up to her daughter. Actually, during the part where she had to name the hardest part of being Farrah's mom, and she starts bawling and talking about how Farrah doesn't believe she loves her, I got shades of an abuse victim. That whole family is so dysfunctional. I just can't.

Teresa has the biggest heart. I just love the relationship she has with Catelynn. I sort of wish Cate would finally ditch Tyler and B&T could adopt HER as well. Tyler going on about Farrah was ridiculous. HE'D do a porn in a heartbeat if anyone wanted him to. But the worst was how he totally missed Dr. Drew's point - no one said these women are happy. The point is they're doing what they think they have to do to provide. I do agree that that was not the case with narcissist Farrah, though.

I think they're just trying to create a narrative that they can live with and keep their granddaughter in their lives. Sofia would be raised by babysitters otherwise. I agree with Farrah's mom about the hypocrisy tho. Cate and Tyler are making their living because they gave up their kid. Amber made money because she kept a kid and then was unfit. Maci has money from a storyline where she had a bunch of men in and out of bentleys life and likes to stir shit in front of him so she can play victim. None of them are making their money from any kind of hard work or ethics imo. My problem with Tyler is that he thinks he's the moral compass on this show and in reality he's a manipulative narcissist attention whore who is all talk. He has balls talking about easy money. He's made money giving speeches for bethenny knowing he himself wasn't informed properly when they placed Carly. That's easier money than porn. And way more shady jmo

Farrah and her crew. I can't even begin to think of where to start with them. I DO feel like they have made progress as far as their interpersonal relationships are concerned, and that's good. I just don't know how much of their dishonesty is for the show and how much is what they really live. I mean...okay. Farrah did porn. Do they really believe that she made a private tape that was leaked? Can anyone really be that ignorant? Are they all okay with the choices she's made since? Do they blame the "leak" for her lifestyle now, or do they think she did the right thing by riding the sex worker train? Or, are they insinuating that Farrah was molested as a child, which is why she made the bad decision to do porn? And again, what about NOW? I don't know. It's so bizarre. My hope is that they're just looking to run with the best narrative for the show but in reality, they are honest about whatever's going on, but Farrah is a history revisionist (the Derek relationship being the best example), so who knows.

Tyler clearly didn't get what Dr. Drew was trying to say re: Farrah's inclusion and how it's meant to cast a negative pale on her life choices. It's obvious to me that Farrah's story is a clear cautionary tale, but maybe to younger girls in Tyler's age group, it reads like a fairytale? I don't know.

Not many thoughts, but a few:

I was multitasking while "watching" and at the end when I looked up to hit stop and delete it from the DVR it was on Farrah and Sophia. Did Maci let Bentley attend? I'm curious since she decided they couldn't film him if she kept her word about that in regards to the reunion.

Also? Dear MTV, stop calling it a reunion. It is not a reunion as there girls' lives really are not intertwined. It isn't like a reunion from The Real World where they lived together, parted ways and are now back together to film a special. Just stop MTV, just stop.

Damn it. If they were going to make us spend time with Farrah's parents they should have had a segment with all the parentals. If for no other reason than for Larry to appear.

Wow Deborah. You wasted no time in throwing Michael under the bus for the reason of you two getting a divorce. He at least tried to go the PC way with 'compatibility issues.'

Tyler says he is back in school. I will believe this when either I'm given proof or the two dollar bill is commonly used.

I chuckled at Cate and Tyler's response to if they were planning more kids.

If you don't like what Farrah's doing that's fine, but Tyler please stop the Holier than tHou attitude because no one's buying it.

Maci has no backbone, she threw a fit and no one caved to her demands, within seconds she was asking MTV to film her again and backs down immediately when Farrah is in sight. if you're gonna single out farrah and trash her lifestyle then at least own up to it and stand your moral ground.

OMG I totally take back my twin comment about Farrah. Thank God and all the holy angels that Debra is not a twin. One of her is just horrible!

I don't honestly know if I can watch the rest of this.

Debra knows damned well that she wouldn't give two shits about those single mom strippers- in fact, No Premarital Sex Deb would probably be judging the hell out of them- if not for Farrah's little foray into the world of porn.

Porn stars who are doing it as the last resort have nothing to do with Farrah. Farrah wanted the attention. She wanted everyone to tell her how hot she is. And she wants to deny the whole "porn star" image. I just can't sit and listen to them imply that James Deen was behind all of this. That man was doin his job, period. It's all such bullshit, I can't even sit there and listen to that delusional, shiny hose beast of a woman spew any more of this bullshit.

Does anyone else remember what someone posted on the old boards about the Dr. Phil show where Farrah appeared with her parents? They had attended the taping. They posted that during the breaks Farrah said to her parents, "remember what I told you!". The feeling from this poster was that Farrah was manipulating them to say the right things or else. Meaning, if they want to have Sophia in their lives, they better say the right things.

I didn't watch the episode last night. Seems as if I may have saved myself from boredom.

Exactly! I just posted on the previous check-up episode thread in response to why would Maci want to trap a guy. Someone posted it was obviously not for financial reasons. I beg to differ. I do think money plays a part in Maci's decision-making. Money may not be the only reason, but I do think it plays a huge part and this comment just wraps it up nicely.

I kept noticing Farrah's nods of approval when Debra or Michael recited the script correctly. This liquid facelifts aren't going to buy themselves Debra. And I'm shocked that Michael cheated on Debra. Even though their relationship was "toxic" I can't see him trolling for an outside piece.

I feel like 5 or 10 years from now, Farrah will fall and fall hard. She won't be young forever and the plastic surgery is already making her look freakish. I don't think Teen Mom 1 will air anymore seasons after this and she will quickly become a "has been". The offers will dry up as well as the money, Sophia will be an out of control pre-teen and her parents won't be at her beck and call for fear of losing contact with Sophia or for financial backing for crappy sauces.

Once you make big money, it's hard to go back to living hand to mouth, so I think she will end up doing hardcore porn as a way to keep the money flowing and won't be able to play the victim card anymore.

I just feel she's headed for a horrible future.

I couldn't agree more, except maybe for the use of the word star, as in porn star.  Sorry, Deb but Farrah is only a star in her own mind.  Not every woman in porn is a star, although I say this without ever having seen her "porn video".

Farrah and her family's "victim" narrative over the whole "sex tape" thing isn't very different than when she was found herself knocked up at 16.  Debra made Derrick out to be the bad guy  and Farrah the victim - remember Farrah didn't even tell him she was pregnant.  Farrah is just continuing the narrative.

Debra has always been crazy but coming out last night in cheer outfit and then trashing Tyler and Macy felt like a desperate attempt to stir up some drama for the show - I wonder if that was all Farrah's idea or a Deb/Farrah collaboration?   Either way, I thought it was ridiculous and embarrassing.

I never watch the check up specials because they do nothing but piss me off.

I think though this shows the real reason why it was better to not have Farrah on the show: all things aside, the show does nothing but serve as a way to foster her delusions. And as much as the show functions to support addictive behaviors of people like Amber and Jenelle, I almost think for Farrah its worse because there is nothing positive about feeding into her ego. At the very least, cameras around may prevent Amber from reoffending, and brought light to a potential situation involving Leah, and will serve as evidence to keep Jace with Barb (at the very, very least).

I was so confused my Farrah, too!   I wish she would just come right out and tell us what the "trauma" was in her life that so horrified Dr. Jenn.  Everything she said seems very very edited - either by her or the production.  Nothing really made sense.

I do agree that she shouldn't be called a "porn star".  She was the "star" of two videos, but she ain't no Jenna Jamison.  I understand why Farrah's camp doesn't want to use the term.  They don't want to make her seem like a pornography careerist.  But that could very well be her path in a few years.

Farrah's victimization reminds me of the Duggar girls.  Those girls were interviewed and they biggest violation they felt was that someone leaked their brother's police records.  Really? That's what brought you to tears?  Isn't that anger and disappointment a little misplaced?  How the fact that you were molested by your brother?

Maybe Farrah feels she is a victim because of MTV or the tabloids.  (She didn't seem too thrilled when Amber mentioned another season.) But she gives everyone plenty of ammunition with her choices.  She is a very confusing lady!

And the Cosmopolitan article someone posted shows that she believes she is actively pushing a feminist agenda with her life choices.  Again, very strange!

I'm embarrassed that I know this, but in my defense, I just binge-watched all the TM seasons recently so it's fresh in my mind.  ;)  Tyler did do a semester or two of college.  He started out going for a degree in human services.  It was before the part you remember.  Then when it was time to sign up for the next semester, Cate was done with high school too so they were both going to sign up.  But in the meantime they went to a get-together at Bethany, and were talking with Dawn about their schooling and future plans.  Dawn recommended they get degrees in social work instead of human services.  So Tyler was worried that he was making a mistake going for a human services degree.  They were all confused and didn't know which route to go (in their defense, Dawn didn't explain it to them very well), so even though it was time to sign up for that next semester, they held off.  That panicked Tyler's mom, so she brought them out to lunch with a friend and his co-worker.  They had both gotten their Masters (co-worker had a double Masters) for further advice.  Those 2 told Tyler and Cate to go with human services instead of social work because it's more broad.  I don't think Tyler and Cate really understood the difference honestly.  They were polite but I think they left there more confused than ever.

Not saying the molestation didn't violate them as well, but they weren't just talking about the brother's records getting released - they were talking about how the entire story was leaked, particularly the fact that *they* were 2 of the victims.  So basically they feel violated that the entire world now knows that they got molested by their own brother.  I would too.  And it's on the cover of every magazine, even though they, as the victims, didn't want it all out there for everyone to know about them.  I'm not in my early 20s like them, and I wasn't sheltered like them, but even so, if my brother had molested me, I'd feel violated if it got splashed all over the headlines as well.  I feel bad for them.  First their brother molests them, then the whole world gets told about it.  Not saying that what Josh did should've been covered up, but it's not fair that the victims got exposed the way they did.  The way they barely blacked out anything on those police reports made it crystal clear who the victims were.

I had second-hand embarrassment for her.  It was really cringeworthy.  She was acting like a high school mean girl.  I think she's having a mid-life crisis.  Plastic surgery, leather pants, feathers in her hair, etc. She's trying to dress and act like she's in her 20s.

Thank you for the clarification.  I only read some of the transcript and saw a couple clip.  Nothing gave me the whole story.

I still feel like Farrah feels victimized for some unknown or fabricated reasons.  I just don't get it.

Didn't Michael say something about Farrah's "happiness" with Derrick being similar to how he sees her with Simon? So even her parents are reciting the bullshit Farrah-Derrick soulmates story. Insert vomit icon here.

Haha!  Yes, yes he did.  Derrick, the Great Lost Love of Farrah's life rewrite.   I guess if she repeats this long enough [and there isn't anyone to dispute it]  she and her Dad start thinking of it as true.    Except I can remember her 16 &Pregnant episode where she  failed to tell Derrick she was pregnant and when he found out through the school gossip she denied it and changed her phone number.  Oh yeah, and repeatedly talked about dating including accepting a date with someone from work, who stood her up.    Meanwhile, Farrah seems to be trying the same method in passing her professional porn video off as a private couple's leaked sex tape; if she just insists that's what it was long enough it will be true!

I dislike Tyler immensely, but he was right about Farrah.  She was on the fringe of the fringe...moved back home to Council Bluffs and was supposed to open an Asian-Italian fusion restaurant that never materialized (sort of like Froco Fresh Frozen, but I digress).  The pepper sauce was going nowhere fast, and nobody was paying any attention to her anymore.  Then the drunk driving arrest -- she was really starting to look like a washed up has-been.  Suddenly those four magic words started appearing everywhere:  Teen Mom Sex Tape.  She sold out to the sex industry because it was the most expedient path to the big bucks and "fame."

Um, Dr. Drew, how can you sit there with a straight face and give PSAs about preventing pregnancy when you're literally sitting next to a knocked-up chick and have just featured a newborn?

Was it just me or did Leah look way bigger/older than the other kids when they brought the kids out at the end?

Yes, she was huge! Maybe it was partly in comparison to Amber, who is very petite despite her giant pumpkinhead.

Are they insinuating that Farrah was molested as a child, which is why she made the bad decision to do porn?

If they were going to be so close-mouthed about the "trauma," then they shouldn't have mentioned it at all.

Tyler says he is back in school. I will believe this when either I'm given proof or the two dollar bill is commonly used.

I want to see an Instagram photo of a textbook!

Debra made Derrick out to be the bad guy  and Farrah the victim - remember Farrah didn't even tell him she was pregnant.  Farrah is just continuing the narrative.

I feel so awful for his family. Can you imagine losing your son and then being completely excluded from your grandchild's life? The Abraham's are evil.

Ha!   That was awesome.

Another favorite moment from this Part II was Drew taking a whole three minutes to try and get the girls to all 'make up' with Farrah and Amber flat out telling him, "I'm not in this shit."  in response to his attempt to drag her into it.

I thought little Leah Leanne looked darling in her polka dot coat.

I've heard hints of this Farrah "trauma" before, and for some reason, I always thought they were referring to something recent. I can't really say why, but I got the impression that they were hinting she was assaulted by someone in the porn industry. At a party or something? I am really not sure where I am getting this from, lol, so please correct me if I'm way of base. I also wouldn't be surprised if she was molested in  her youth. But yea, damn, quit dancing around shit if you don't want to go there.

Well I hate to defend Dr. Drew but he is referring to unwanted pregnancies and C and T have been very clear that they were trying to conceive and even Macy in her own ever changing story acknowledges that she intentionally chose not to prevent getting pregnant.

Have you seen Leah's father?  And her extended family?   Compare them to Macy, Tyler, Farrah, etc...

Debra reminds me of my oldest sister, who is middle-aged and recently divorced. They both try to dress young and have that horrendous stringy hair style that they think makes them look younger.  Gawd just no!!!!  You're embarrassing yourselves.
