To add Raven because she is a "self-assured lunatic" just shows how desperate they have become in trying to save the show.

Or just speed up the cancellation, fingers crossed.  Which means of course it will just continue to make money and stay on the air.

The Kool-Aid Man!

I enjoyed The Kool-Aid Man, Deborah Roberts and the chef at the end of the show. The rest was meh.

That host that filled in Wednesday was filling in for the original fill in for that day Elizabeth Vargas who was listed here in the OP of this thread to host Thursday too when Stacey London was on. I wonder what happened that caused Elizabeth to miss both days? Even the ABC website has Elizabeth listed for Wednesday.

Does anyone know why Whoopi ends the show with the awkwardly phrased - "take a little time to enjoy whatever view you happen upon" instead of just a plain and simple - "take a little time to enjoy the view"?

Because The Whoopster is making it HERS!!!  It's all about her ego & what they let her get away with -- GAWD!

I am so disappointed that Nicolle has been given the power to promote that spin unchecked.

This is why I don't want to watch as the 2016 elections grow near. I would rather here a discussion with different views rather than just one view stated as fact!

Rosie yesterday" "What I'm trying to say, what I'm trying to say"

SAY IT!

It's also interesting that the day after they announce Raven as permanent they invite Stacy London on. I like Michelle Collins better but I'm over the comedic angle as a panelist.

also I'm glad Nicolle read that hilarious quote Ally Wentworth said about Lena Dunham! Glad we didn't miss out on that hilarious exchange....

That's the bizarre thing that stands out to me about the Republican party----they will praise and get behind any/all candidates no matter what.  Candidate could be an evangelical looney, they could spew hate, violence, ignorance and judgement on any level, be embarrassing, and the talking heads support them.  I just don't get it.  Nicolle is just a squawking fool (IMHO).

They support the team  not the players.  And they always hate the other team so to them no matter who is running on the Republican ticket they will always blindly support them.  Because you know, they are one of them and not one of those other people. And by other people I mean anyone not a rich Christian male.

Why can't we trade Raven for Deborah Roberts, she is so intelligent and articulate.   It was like a breath of fresh air.

Because TPTB at The Spew are allergic to intelligence, articulation and fresh air.

True.  It's embarrassing.  The U.S. is the most important country on earth.  Only an educated, deep-thinking diplomat should be in charge.  Spirituality is important, too. It's not about voting in a frat boy or close-minded mental defective.

I've liked Roberts ever since I watched her ages ago on Orlando, Florida local news. She's always been appealing. I'm still willing to give Raven a chance. Also articulate, while unpredictable. However, her scary hair/clothes days have to go. That get-up yesterday was unforgiveable.

That's one of many pet peeves about Whoopi.  I used to think she did it to annoy BW.  It's sounds awkward and she always stumbles through it.  I think it is fine the way it was originally.

I agree with you.  But I think she should replace Whoopi.

Elizabeth has missed a couple of 20/20 episodes off and on.

Can you imagine any candidate for Presidency/Prime Minister in the world who would utter the words "Bro without a ho?"

Okay, so the Whoopster has said on many occasions she doesn't wear a bra or panties, but today she said that she MUST have fresh underwear everyday.  WTH?

yeah, I caught that too.  It was only a few days ago that she said "i don't wear a bra and I don't wear underwear."  Then today she says she has to have clean underwear every day.

So the discussion yesterday about Ali Wentworth letting her pre-teen girls see her naked so they would know what a woman's body looks like was completely hijacked by Nicole to a discussion of her three-year-old son seeing her naked. What she said was cute and funny, about taking a bath with him, making a joke about it to her husband, etc, but it wasn't that point of what Wentworth was trying to say.

Not everything about being a parent of teenage girls applies to being a parent to a toddler boy.

I missed big chunks of today's show, but heard something near the end about (I think) transgender guests.  Do I have it correct that the dad became female, and his child transgendered female to male?  If so, there's a family with a whole lot of adjustments!

......If the View thinks Raven Symone  is the answer they are wrong.  That Daily Beast article insists the audience likes a circus.  Bullshit.  Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the View's ratings were at their best when they had a panel that actually consisted of women who where smart and able to get their point across without being crazy just for the sake of being crazy......

It's not really fair to compare ratings from Summer 2015 to the early 2000s.  Everything has changed.  Since then, we have the following on air:

The Talk

The Chew

The Five

The Real

The Cycle

Outnumbered

The Wendy

KLG+Hoda

TMZ on TV

Every single one of those "brings the crazy" and has multiple demented, out-there co-hosts, or at least periods of outrage/bombast/mis-education/cray-cray. And they periodically spike up the ratings.  It's a different world than Meredith babbling about being underwear-free and mourning a dead dog, than Joy tossing out 20-year-old material, than Star hawking her wedding deals, than Matenopolous comparing the Spice Girls to the Beatles, than Lisa Ling being afraid to commit, than a reality star morphing into The World's Most Important Conservative Voice (complete with earpiece and blue card notes).

Meredith's new show got a two-year commitment and is likely to be cancelled next season.  NBC Universal, which syndicates the show, already has allegedly made plans to launch a "View-type" panel show.

http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/83827/connick-show-heads-2016-development-slate

It's the hot trend right now, and ABC wants as many eyeballs as possible for the 32 minutes of content they spread across an hour of daytime, slapped under the legacy title "The View".  I like Raven. She brings a fresh and unconventional perspective.  She may flame out like Matenopolous did, but she has been in the TV/entertainment industry for 25+ years.  She is clearly out of touch about some things -- "Lets all vote by smartphone" or "I buy $450 bras" or "I feel dumb, where do I go to get taught stuff" or her craziest comment this week about "never wearing the same outfit in public twice".   But she can read a teleprompter smoothly and seems open to opinions other than her own.

I used to be in favor of adding Michelle Collins too, but her comedic schtick seemed a bit forced during her most recent gig, and I have a feeling she may be out of the running.  I think the christian newswoman who filled in quite a bit about a month ago would be a better addition.  She has some journalism chops and could be a better moderator when St Whoopi is away.  Strangely, I also thought the parade of blonde models (Molly Simms? and one other one?) who alternated in the middle seat would add better to the mix than Michelle Collins.  They seemed to actually have opinions that varied from the expected.

I also think Joy Behar is going to return and replace Rosie Perez for next season.

The son said at the same time he's transitioning to manhood his Dad is transitioning to womanhood. Or something along those lines. The way the son worded what he said was kind of confusing but I think he was also nervous about being interviewed in front of an audience.

Sandiegoinexile, you've made great points. The small point that differs for me is that I want a panelist who is likable. I find Ellen Degeneres and Meredith Viera and Clinton Kelly and Joy Behar likeable, for example. I don't find any of the panel on The View likable. And I'm not a picky sort.

I truly love this group. I've said it, and I mean it. I have also been, at various times, Republican, Independent, and Confused. I am a "social liberal" for damn sure. I identify as Feminist. HOWEVER, I am fiscally conservative, and I think BOTH Bush AND Obama suck ass for different reasons. I am sorely dismayed at the red/blue division that threatens to tear this country up in some unsavory manner. I think BOTH PARTIES suck Major Ass, and I hate them both (sorry - feeling extreme feels and have to word carefully - don't want to stir up a lot of trouble. just enough)

I know now why I love the color purple.

BTW, my folks come from tough midwestern stock. Forged in the Drought and Great Depression. Rural poverty like you don't know (or DO know - let's not assume!!) My father had many unconventional views on poverty, etc. They are Republican and proud of it. Sadly, I can not get behind the Republican party like I once thought maybe I did. For many of the reasons you smart folk articulate quite well.

I look at things from an economic view as well, and no, economics doesn't mean "money." In my opinion, the Dems put blinders on at times and fail to see the Big Picture (just like those nasty Repubs) and like to ignore the Costs. (Like we all do in our own budgets. Lots of us, and this country, are in DEBT. enough said)

To hook back to the show, I cannot stand Nicole as a "representative" of the Republican Party. I am amazed at the low level of intelligence required to land a major job pontificating to "the world."

Finally, when y'all bash the repubs, it kinda hurts. "We" all are not total jerks. Plus, in spite of the reservations I have about Hillary, and how much I dislike Slick Willy, I "think" I would take either of those yahoos over any Bush or Obama. The Clintons knew/know how to govern from "center"

WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER!! (I will include America, and the Whole World in my group hug) Peace Out (need more coffee)

Yep, you've nailed it.  I like to watch shows where the hosts seem like people i'd like to hang out with.   Even the evening talk shows, people watch(ed)  Jonny Carson, David Letterman, Jon Stewart, Jimmy Kimmel, and all the new hosts, because they seem like people you want to listen to, people you'd like to meet for drinks or coffee, and talk to .  People who might give a shit about who you are and what you think.  For me, it would be Meredith, Rosie O, Joy - if they lived in my neighborhood, or worked in my office, I'd want to hang out with them.

I don't LIKE anyone on the current panel   I used to like Whoopi - but she has shown herself to be someone different than who I thought she was.  She's told us over and over that she doesn't give a shit about anyone else's opinion, she is all about kissing up to the Hollywood elite.  Nicole is empty-headed and can't listen to anyone else.  Rosie P is a nice enough person, but the type who would make me nervous to be around.  Raven over-estimates her own intelligence and seems entitled and spoiled.

It seems as if Whoopi's  don't tweet me, etc.  could be an echo of ABC honchos. Why else would they not wake the hell up? The message board for The View is a good example. There isn't much about the actual show on there, and what there is mostly matches what is being said here.

It would be watchable again if Joy returns.  I like her very much.  Some of one-liners are tired, but she is a smart, sophisticated, informed woman and she is very comfortable on-camera.  And watching her verbally hold Nicole accountable for her stupid gibberish-to-nowhere will be an asset.  Nobody is solid on that panel at the moment.

Oh gosh, I'm so glad you meant this group here and not the current The View panel (at least that's what I think you are saying). For a moment I thought oh, wow, what would it be like to be a poster and deeply love Whoopi and Nicolle, and Rosie P. and Raven and be posting here. That would be more uncomfortable than to be a rare Republican poster, lol. I think it is tempting to bash Republicans here mostly because of Nicolle now and Elizabeth in the past. They weren't good representatives. I guess Rozie P is a Democrat, but I don't think Whoopi is either is she (who knows with Whoopi). Anyway none of them are good at representing any reasonable political view whatsoever in my opinion.

Maybe she's a hoarder.  She HAS to have clean underwear every day but she ain't gonna wear it!

Remember when we used to hear/read about "Q" ratings?  Per Wikipedia:  The Q Score is a measurement of the familiarity and appeal of a brand, celebrity, company, or entertainment product (e.g., television show) used in the United States. The higher the Q Score, the more highly regarded the item or person is among the group familiar with them.

I wonder if the networks are using this measurement...and if so, have they removed "appeal" from the criteria?

That's the bizarre thing that stands out to me about the Republican party----they will praise and get behind any/all candidates no matter what.  Candidate could be an evangelical looney, they could spew hate, violence, ignorance and judgement on any level, be embarrassing, and the talking heads support them.  I just don't get it.  Nicolle is just a squawking fool (IMHO).

MatchaLove, that's because most Republicans adhere to Ronald Reagan's Eleventh Commandment quote, "The personal attacks against me during the primary finally became so heavy that the state Republican chairman, Gaylord Parkinson, postulated what he called the Eleventh Commandment: Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican. It's a rule I followed during that campaign and have ever since."

I still can't wrap my head around it.  Pretending all candidates are 100% equal and capable of running the world just makes everyone going along with the farce look even more absurd.  I'm personally incapable of championing an idiot or a fool.  I'd stay silent.  I guess that's why it makes my head spin.

Here's a link to some very interesting Q scores.  (I can't believe the Whoopster's!!!??)

Perhaps this is what ABC bases decisions on. These scores were before Barbara's  retirement. Barbara 12, Sherri 8 and Jenny 7. All went poof!

I didn't see the discussion about clean underwear.  Are there people who don't have clean underwear every day?  Have I been living a life of privilege by putting on a fresh pair every morning?  I'm also sick of the no bra thing, as if dressing in a slovenly fashion is striking some kind of blow against societal norms or expectations.

The quote/various icons are still not working for me...nor is BOLD.

I had lunch with a friend yesterday who said, "I know you don't like Whoopi, but I really like her. She's the reason I watch The View." S

She's probably in the majority (boo hoo).
