Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

More proof that Jill smothers her kids’ partners when they are just “courting” and not yet engaged. DIL to be? And since when does she refer to herself as “mom?” It is a welcome change from mama/mamma/momma but I don’t recall hearing “mom” before.

I am quite she was was as self-centered and overbearing as she is now.  I imagine she wasn't too well liked in school.   She is exhausting to be around.   People don't want to be around others who are energy vampires.  But of course Jill would spin it as "persecution" for being so dogly.   Instead, of " you are so annoying, just shut up for 10 minutes would you?"

I agree.

I suppose the worst case actual scenario was that she was bullied. I suspect that she showed up at cosmetology school after years of being homeschooled and assured she was the dogliest and Jesus' favorite. And interacting with others only at home and at church. Which would hardly equip her to deal with ordinary everyday interactions with instructors and the other students. Especially if her personality was as loud and proud and in-charge as it is now. That could have activated some mean girl measures against her. I'm not an apologist for bullying, but of course we don't know what really happened to Jill. She could be crying "persecution" over just not being included at a lunch table, or being the object of some unfriendly comments, or not be praised to the skies. Or just tolerated by the people around her, and not becoming the teacher's pet in any of her classes.

So chances are, the other students in her Cosmetolody classes were normal. They may have smoked, swore, dressed to trend and overall did not exemplify Jillzilla’s overzealous beliefs. Not to mention, she may have had a male teacher who was “wimpy” and therefore sinful and not worthy of her attention. I can see Jill complaining that none of the students and teachers obeyed her demands to comply with her dress, speech and behavior demands and the school leadership telling her to suck it up or get out. Persecution!!!

Jill was in a vocational ed program so she was among high school students and maybe a few older people. Despite her persecution, she finished the program and received her license. She worked for a short time in her aunt's home beauty salon. Hunk was eyeing her in church, and at some point she gave up the idea of a profession and decided to be a model housewife and mother.

Personally, I think she has failed at hairdressing/cosmetology, housewifery, and raising children, but that's just my heathen opinion.

Jill is only notable for one thing, which is being willing to do the dance with no pants with her hunk.  She sucked and sucks at anything else she did/does.

Seems like they do this every time Nurie leaves. So dramatic. I guess since Ma Turtleneck had her stroke she doesn’t know Jill so deeply.

So Nurie paid for a dinner at Applebee's for Mahmo.  got it.

Geez, Jill, your other children may have also enjoyed dinner at Applebee’s.  The favoritism she shows is so blatant.  I grew up with 7 siblings and even if it was one’s birthday, we all celebrated together whether it was at home or a restaurant (although as a large family, going to a restaurant really only happened on a birthday or very special occasion).  None of us were whisked off for a nice dinner out while the rest of us ate scraps at home.  Maybe if it’s something they did with each child every now and then, it would be different, but so often it’s just with precious Nurie when she’s visiting or the Rods are on one of their frequent trips to Florida.  Mahmo just infuriates me!

I looked at the photo.   I am trying to decide if they are in the front  seat of an SUV or the back seat. There doesn’t appear to be a steering wheel.  If they are in the back seat, that implies that they weren’t alone.   So what did the other person or persons do while these two were ‘pouring their hearts out’?

He sat there and stuffed his face with the dinner special. Maybe there were two stuffers since neither Jill nor Nurie would want to be mistaken for an unmarried woman out on the town at night.

Nurie is Jill's clear favorite. I wonder how the other kids feel. Also, Jill has set Nurie up as her soulmate. Nurie better not EVER disappoint Mahmo.

I wonder if Jill and Nurie "pouring their hearts out" consists of Jill sobbing and wailing about what a flawed human she is, while Nurie just says "woo woo, woo woo" and pats Jill's hair and tells her how beautiful she is.  I can't imagine any deep soup searching goes on between those two - I don't think they're capable of that.

Jill: "When I felt this ... then Nurie felt this." x 3 or 4.

Did Nurie get to feel anything?  Again, its ALL about Jill.

This is Jill getting to share and Nurie offering the comfort and encouragement.  Nurie probably just gets maybe a few sips of soup and a bite of bread out of the deal as Jill starts her sharing right away.

So more than likely:

1. DBD drove and they pretended they were sisters out for dinner with dad.

2. Jill and Nurie shared a meal, because calories!  Dave dipped up his own meal and whatever was left from the women’s plates.

3. They stayed at Applebee’s for three hours, taking up the server’s time (and possible tips from other customers) only to order multiple refills of pop and leave a tract as tip.

How does anybody know where God wants them? I see all these people that talk to God and ask for answers – and get them. I just saw Jed and Katey say that they pray about their family size and when it’s time to have another baby. What happens when you pray and ask questions? These people get answers. That never happens to me. At some point, you’re just making up your own mind, and pretending that God is answering you.

What happens if they pray and God is silent?  I guess they would do what they want to do and still say "God told me...."

Isn’t that how horror movies start?    But seriously in most circles sex without the possibility of unplanned pregnancy would be a good thing but then Jill lives in a world where not being able to have any more kids must push every paranoid button that Hunk would leave her for someone fertile.

They will continue to have their Friday night unprotected sex night and if one of them gets pregnant then God is answering.   If not that just need to pray harder.

Edited to add:   These idiots are so uneducated and stupid I am genuinely surprised they even know how to do sex.

Well, of course, the men know about sex because of Jim Bob’s Lego instructions! I don’t know what the girls get. Michelle telling them to close their eyes and pray until it’s over?

What exactly are they pouring their hearts out over? Aren’t they living the perfect God example life? Nothing is supposed to be wrong that you should be sitting and sobbing with your adult daughter about how things are going. And Nurie should be on top of the world.

I imagine that Nurie comments on how much work being a mother of three is.  The problem with Jill pouring her heart out to Nurie is that Jill is most likely complaining about David or the children… in other  words, Nurie’s Dad and siblings.  Jill has no other life, so what else could she be talking about?

I think that is the point where they start saying they "have a burden" for whatever. Timothy had a burden for aviation ministry, Phillip had a burden for Hungary.

Erin and Chad Paine seem to keep having a burden to find a home. I doubt the rentals they get are what they envision, but since their god seems to not answer their prayers and they refuse to get real jobs, it remains a burden.

I think Jill complains about her "haters" - how we persecute her with our criticisms of the Best Mother Ever, who also happens to be the World's Best Christian! So unfair! She probably also complains about whatever led to their leaving their former church.

Are these women allowed to complain about their headships?  My feeling is that they have sneaky and creative ways to do so without actually doing it - maybe talking about how hard it is to stretch their food budget for the large family that God provided (the unspoken part being that Headship isn't working enough to support them), or how exhausted they are taking care of their many blessings (Headship not helping out because that's women's work), etc.  I think Jill and her counterparts feel that suffering daily is part of their burden of being good Christian women.  If Jill weren't burdened by her daily life, she'd have no foundation for her beliefs.  And if she looked around with gratitude at what she does have, that would mean she's satisfied and we all know that is definitely NOT the case.

For Jed and Katie, its an excuse not to pop one out every year.   "Oh hey we prayed to God and he said it wasn't the right time  yet."   When in reality they are using birth control but don't want anyone to know because that isn't allowed in their religion.

Basically, its amazing that God just happens to agree with whatever they want.  Jill prays that she needs a break from raising 13 kids and voila a vacation appears.   Never mind she had already booked the AirBnB, this was God talking.

When I was a kid, we were told God answers all prayers, but sometimes the answer is no.   Amazing how for fundies the answer is always yes for something they want to do anyway.

So Jill poured her heart out to Nurie for three hours while Nurie just ocasionally nodded her head.

That's how I see the evening. Jill tells Nurie how much persecution she has suffered all year, and Nurie nods and occasionally tells Jill what a wonderful mother and woman she is to be so strong and faithful when everyone is so mean to her.

If Nurie does mention how tired she gets taking care of three small children, Jill nods and then launches into a long story of hard it was for her to take care of five little blessings while David was working away from home.

Jill had a good evening with Nurie because it was all about Jill.

And now it is a tradition to do this every visit.  I guess Kaylie Girl isn't there for Jill.

I'm sure andKaylee has the "poor Mama" nod and sympathy cooing sound mastered, but Princess Nurie does it bigger and better. Nurie was and still is Jill's favorite daughter, and that won't change unless Nurie does something awful to Jill, which is unlikely. Also, Kaylee is always available, and Nurie is out of everyday reach, making her company even more desirable.

Poor Phillip seems to be back home and as lost as ever.

Interesting. Wasn't he last living in West Virginia, probably with Ma and Pa Noyes? I wonder who made the decision to move Phillip back to the barndo and why? There seems to be a story here, which may have been part of Things Mama Had to Tearfully Tell Nurie at Applebee's.

From the photos, he doesn't look overjoyed to be home.

Oh, I hope Philip isn’t home for good. I was wishing it was just him visiting for the holidays, and he will go back somewhere else. He even had a little paunch! I was so happy for him that he’s eating. So there goes Jill‘s theory that they are naturally thin children. Philip got away and decided that food was OK after all. No more fasting BS.

Here is how that post should have read:

It’s become a tradition for Nurie and me to have a “girls night out” on the last night of her visit. Since she and her husband live so far away, it’s nice to connect with her one-on-one like this while also giving her a much-needed break. Thank you to the staff at Applebees in Wooster for the great service and for allowing us to spend so much time there.

There is video of Janessa bugging the crap out of poor little cinnamon. She’s trying to put a crown on him/her, and then trying to put on a dress. Perfect cinnamon is growling and nipping. Jill told her to take a break, but then the next video is of her continuing to bug the dog. Damn that kid is so spoiled. I thought cinnamon was mommy‘s new baby.
