I kind of hope we get the "Actors named Chris who play superheroes" trifecta and get Chris Evans to host before the end of the season.  I actually wish he was the host instead of Hemsworth (nothing against him, I just prefer Evans), but with his social anxiety, he might not want to host.

Hee! I was going to take bets on how soon his shirt would come off, but I didn't want that to be the first post. (I'm thinking monologue; like Channing Tatum.)

I think Kate was used in the promos because she was the only woman in the cast who could maintain her composure around Hemsworth. Aidy said she lost her mind when she met Drake so I can imagine what meeting Chris!

Anyone else coping Tom Hiddlestone makes a cameo?  It would be a good opportunity...

Or they'll probably have someone else play Loki in a sketch. Mooney maybe.

WU has a few good stories to work with this week: Hillary Clinton's email debacle, Kanye West's weird speech at Oxford, and Ben & Jerry's is considering infusing their ice cream with pot. If Colin and Michael can't make a week like this funny on Update, can they just pass the torch to Bobby, or Kenan for his last few months?

Seems legit.  Also, I doubt they could get Aidy and Chris in the same frame for a two-shot -- that guy's a GIANT.

I saw one new promo with  Chris and The Zac Brown Band last night.  What stood out to me is that Leslie was in it.  I don't  remember them using one of the featured performers in the promos before ever.

They also made a point of it being her first promos.

But for being featured rookies, she and Pete Davidson have gotten a lot of big screentime...and I'm just talking about SNL 40.

Idk if you're just joking, and if you are I apologize in advance, but idk if I can get on board with this way of thinking. Chris is a stunning man, but I'd like to give the straight ladies of the cast the benefit of the doubt that they can control themselves like normal human beings. Also, he's married.

Interestingly enough, I've seen a lot of criticism that Kate is frequently put in promos where she has to act like she's attracted to a male host (the Chris Pratt one comes to mind). Idk, just because she's not into guys doesn't mean she can't recognize a good-looking one. Also, the promos seem to be heavily improvised. If she didn't want to do that kind of shtick, I'm sure she could say so.

I have literally no faith in this current Update team, so I'm sure the coverage will be just as blah as usual.

It was tongue and cheek. I'm straight but I would definitely be a little flustered around that guy!

Oh I think blind lesbian nuns would be charmed by Chris H. And as much as I have disliked SNL in recent years, I may have to DVR this episode just so I can fast forward through all of the stupid to get to the pretty. There better be a lot of pretty.

Too bad Chris wasn't famous when the "Sexual Harassment & You" sketch from the Tom Brady episode was on, because I think that if Leslie Jones' reaction alone is any indication, not only do some of the cast members need it, I think that he would have killed it.

I think the cast likes him.  A bunch of them, including Bobby, Kate, and Colin joined Chris for a goofy musical chairs game with beer on The Tonight Show a few nights ago.  It was very loose, and everybody was having fun.  I just think that would be hard to fake if the host was a stiff.

Not having watched a full episode of SNL in years, I thought Chris did very well and really committed to the sketches.  I knew they would do an Avengers sketch and it was pretty funny, but I was surprised that none of the cast did a cameo.  It was cool to see Thor goofing off for a change.  Chris has mentioned that he wants Thor to loosen up a little, so we might actually see some of that in AoU.  Seemed like we got a spoiler about Jane, though.

Either WU was really long, or the rest of the skits are just really short.

IMO, the best skits were the American Express skit, Avengers, and the soap opera stars.  Kate McKinnon was really funny and I can see why she's featured so much.

I really liked Update tonight.  that was the best one by far of the season.

And thankfully Kate did Hillary.

I don't know what to think of "The Chicken is our Captain" sketch.  That was one of the most bizarre sketches I've seen in awhile.

I have to say this was an extremely enjoyable episode. It's on par with the Martin Freeman episode as really enjoyable. And Chris Hemsworth seems like he really got along with the cast and was just having a blast. I love when hosts are having fun. There were so many sketches that could've gone absolutely wrong but yet they didn't. They were really on par tonight.

Cold Open: This is a good example of a sketch that could've been absolutely terrible but yet somehow didn't get terrible. I think it has a lot to do with Kate McKinnon. Also the gag about the formal anniversary letter was pretty hilarious. Especially when you think of the entendres.

Monologue: I didn't even know there was a third Hemsworth brother. Nonetheless, this was boring to me. Just didn't really work though the height disparity between the oldest one and the other two is pretty hilarious.

AmEx Ad: You know how sometimes there's something that is just too accurate and too on the nose that it just doesn't seem to work? That's what this was to me. I get where they were going with it and the performances weren't bad or anything. However, it just didn't really work for me. It was well done though. It looked like an actual ad.

Disney Channel Show: Once again, I got where they were going with this and Hemsworth is charming as hell and I liked the whole constant comparison. I felt like they could've done much more with this. I mean it's a Disney Channel sitcom...make it as sanitary and ridiculous as possible.

Empire Ad: I really get annoyed by "Just add white dude. Look at the hulllaarrrious cultural differences!" themes but this wasn't that bad. We get it, us white folk are super lame. I wish this was just a straight up parody of Empire. I liked the line from Cookie about not aging a day. And I did kind of like the sweet earnestness of Hemsworth's character. And the whole slowly backing away during a fight part was amusing.

Captain Chicken: Oh my god, where do I start with this sketch? I mean that in the best way possible. This sketch is like an absolute miracle and so fascinating to dissect. First off, the whole concept of the sketch was clearly written by someone who was not only high but really hungry. Second, my god was this sketch the epitome of stupid. Third, using live animals can go so wrong at times. And fourthly, this is what a standard 10-to-1 sketch would be. Just the sheer bizarreness of it and having it air so early on in the show? That's nuts. This sketch should've been terrible. It should've been thought of as the worst sketch the show has ever done in the past 10 years. But yet....this absolutely worked and worked well. For some reason, in spite of the stupidity of the concept, I was laughing really hard just at the absurdity. Everything about this just somehow worked. A lot of credit has to go to the cast of this sketch. Hemsworth, Strong, Zamata, and Keenan played it straight and absolutely sold it and the fact that it was a live chicken really worked wonders. Then the ending with the chicken going into the "microwave" and coming out cooked. What an absurd ending. My favorite line of the entire sketch was Cecily saying "I'm going to eat her because she smells so good...and she was a bitch" for some reason, that just completely worked on me. I may be the only one loved this sketch in spite of its stupidity but I don't care. It was just great for me.

The Iggy Azalea Show: I despise Iggy Azalea. This sketch was okay. I did like seeing Sasheer's character swooning a bit over twerking Hemsworth. I mean, I definitely don't blame her. I'd be the same way. This was lame though despite it.

Weekend Update: 36 inches, huh? Jost really did a decent job this week on Update even with his flub, he saved it perfectly. "A man can dream!" He was at his best thinking off the cuff which makes me think that maybe he'd be better suited doing more off the cuff things. I did kind of like the Dr. Ben Carson piling on. There seems to be something here though. Despite that, I'm still all for Leslie Jones and Colin Jost doing Update together. Jones was alright but she was getting a little too Sam Kinison with her yelling. I enjoy her best when she's bantering with Colin. Girl at the Party was pretty decent too. I liked the line about HMOs and the ending which feels way too true with some folks I know. I feel like this could be the start of a new better Update. At least that's the hopeful fool in me talking.

Superhero Postgame: I liked how this was parodying after a sports team wins a championship. Chris was great as Thor and just going all out. I enjoyed Taran as Robert Downey Jr though is it just me or did it seem way too much like Norm's Burt Reynolds in some of the cadence? And the super serious Captain America too. This was pretty good and could've been much worse but it was saved by some good performances and some moments of amusement.

So You Think You Can Live With Brian: I loved the concept of this to begin with. I loved how such a mundane thing was magnified so hard. And Beck saying "Uh oh, Eric fell..." was just read so hilariously. This was pretty good. I enjoyed it.

Acting Coach: I really wasn't that much into this sketch. I don't know why but it just didn't work for me. I may need to rewatch this tomorrow to see if I think of it any differently.

Porn Stars: Why hasn't this stopped being funny to me? It should be worn out by now but somehow, it still makes me laugh. It's not as good as past efforts, but it still gives me a chuckle. And Douche and GoBananas was amusing. I don't know, I liked it and it made me laugh. I keep wondering when this is going to run its course. It's not as good but it hasn't quite gotten there yet for me.

All in all an enjoyable episode. I mused a lot about that chicken sketch but I just can't get over how stupidly funny it was.

Funny episode!

I loved the chicken sketch. I was impressed that the chicken walked on stage and then stayed on her seat while people yelled around her. I know chickens are intelligent, but we've seen dogs go off script on the SNL stage, so I kept wondering if they had a plan B for if the chicken started walking around the set or otherwise flubbed her role. But no! She was totally professional. Hee.

I also thought WU was markedly improved. It's like both of them showed some life. Maybe that's all it will take. Animation, people! You're not robots, you're comedians.

I love Leslie Jones. I feel like I should be put off by her tropiness, but honestly-- I love her. LOVE.

Also: Kate MacKinnon; it's at an irrational level now-- as soon as I see her, no matter what she does, I love it. It seemed like she was breaking in the "acting coach" sketch, but whatever-- she can do no wrong even when she's wrong, apparently. I didn't even think her Hillary impression was that good. She got the manic eyes and laughter, and the hand gestures. But I don't know if I would have known immediately who she was supposed to be, if I didn't recognize her from the script. And yet-- my good will towards Kate overrode my feeling that the impression was just so-so. I don't understand it, it's just the way it is.

Enjoyed the Porn Stars, and previously I had become impatient with the sketch and wanted them to retire it.

Enjoyed the housemate/dinner reality show. Just the total absurdity of it, and how it hit the musical cues and general style of that format, with such an utterly ridiculous "conflict."

The monologue was kind of a waste of time, but I liked that they didn't prolong it. I had the feeling they kind of knew they didn't really have a decent hook, so they just goofed around a little and didn't really try to sell it too hard.

I had more thoughts while watching, but am suddenly too tired to keep stringing them together.

On my NBC feed it was followed by the actual Mindy Kaling American Express Ad.

Same here.  At first I thought the 2nd ad was a follow up joke ad, then I realized it was real.  Corporate synergy or coincidence?

Did anyone else notice that the title card (not sure what it's called) before the good-byes was up for a really long time with the piano repeating?  Does that mean the show miscalculated how long some sketches were and needed to kill time?  Or that not everyone was ready on stage?

Overall it was a fun episode.  Chris Hemsworth was game and most of the sketches were funny.  Except for the Avengers parody, that was just boring for me.  Even Weekend Update was better than usual.  I seem to recall some other hosts (Seth and Amy?) doing the bit where they make several jokes in a row at the same target.

Oh, and was Hemsworth ad libbing in the chicken sketch?  There were parts like when the chicken kept turning away from him and he kept calling it.  I thought Lorne hates ad libbing.

LOVED the show tonight. It took them a while, but Colin and Michael finally meshed. I hope it continues this way. I loved Colin messing up the joke, partly because WU is his deal, as far as writing, isn't it? There shouldn't have been any surprises there. It just made it even funnier.

Does anyone know when the next show is and who the host is? I haven't heard any mention of it. Usually they have a card on the show, saying what's next, even if it's a few weeks off.

ETA: They're saying it's back on March 28, just not announcing host/musical guest yet.
