So unaware. Dom & Colin nailed it when they said that he might be a fan of the game but he doesn't seem to be a student of the game. He thinks that we are going to remember him? I think I will remember S23 Mark Anthony or S23 Rick more in a few years.

Like Vince he seems to be another contestant they chose because he has not interacted with other humans very much. His condescending "Bamboo is hoooolllloooow" comment made me think "So is this guy's skull."

Dan holds the distinction of being the only Survivor contestant I've had an approximation of knowing; he was a couple years behind me in high school. I honestly don't remember him, though.

Dan reminds me of a guy I used to work with, in that he was always cracking jokes, thought he was funnier than he was, and made some inappropriate remarks in said jokes that make me wonder how never got slapped or brought up for sexual harassment.

I will say this about Dan, I'm surprised by his challenge performance.  I'm surprised he's done this well so far.  While he definitely had the smell of an extremely early boot (and no doubt would have been had BC lost, or at least been close if they targeted Mike), he could go farther than expected.  With the tribe swap coming up, he may be able to blend in and I doubt he'd be targeted early at the merge.  Unless he tells one bad joke too many and is booted for being annoying.

@MarkHB, you're a Maine guy who's also met Bob (the other Maine castaway), right?

I am from Maine, but I have never met Bob or Julie Berry, both of whom are from the same Portland suburb as Dan. I have, though, met Zoe Zanidakis, the Monhegan lobster lady who was completely inconsequential on Marquesas.

Dan reminds me of every geeky sidekick on any sitcom that is basically friends with his group because he makes the rest of them look good.  I really want heads to roll (namely his, Mike's and Rodney's) at the first TC when the tie was revealed.  He'll be dragged along for the vote, but hopefully gets booted when no one wants to play with him anymore.  He's better in challenges than Will, if I have to give him a positive.

I don't know how the hell Lindsey didn't haul off and smack him one when he a.) attacked her at the fire and b.) gave his total non-apology to her.  He's horrible.

She probably didn't because she was in Ponderosa by that time.

You're right!  I meant Sierra, but for some reason was thinking of Lindsey!  I meant how the hell didn't Sierra smack him one?  Edited! :-P

Oh my god.   Soooooo condescending.  Even when he knows the right thing to say, his tone is way off, just oozing with contempt.  But usually he just can't keep his mouth shut.  I loved how he was bragging, "I'm twice as old as you Mike! I know how to talk to women!" And then they cut to him completely blowing it with Sierra.

He's an idiot, but his idiocy makes me laugh so I don't mind if he sticks around for a while. It was so funny when he was pretending to agree with Lindsay about booting Rodney and completely overplaying it. "I absolutely think it's the right move! I agree with you 1000 percent! There is literally no other person we should even consider voting out!" I thought Lindsay was looking at him with skepticism after that, but maybe she's dumber than he is because it doesn't appear that it set off any warning bells for her.

I'm sure casting knew they hit gold when they found this overconfident guy who is completely unaware of how socially incompetent he is. He's not Coach but he'll do.

I think I hate him the most!  He's giving Rodney a run for his money anyway.

Luckily, I feel like if there's one thing this show is good at, it's setting up douchebags for a massive and wonderful fall.  So I am hopeful of seeing Dan get absolutely destroyed at some point in the game.

Going back to the premiere, I recall Dan saying he would be remembered after this season.  I really hope Probst plays that soundbite at the reunion, because for better or worse (okay, mainly for worse), Dan will be remembered.  Though likely not for the reasons he expected.

So Dan, Tyler, Sierra and Mike are friendly.  Sierra said she snuggled up to Dan for warmth and the 3 of them attended his viewing party in Maine.  There were a bunch of pictures of him on some pretty craggy cliffs, apparently he hikes and is an avid disc golf player.  So he is heavy but fit.

In a strategy move, Foley sat out the challenge for rewards but performed well in the immunity challenge. Some Escameca tribal members plotted to throw the challenge won by Nagarote but Foley didn't go along with the plot.

"I refused to do it," Foley told the crowd at the viewing party.

The plot was to protect someone on the Nagarote Tribe. But it meant Escameca was sentenced to the tribal council. The move also protected Sierra, Foley's tribal member, and sent home another, who Foley wanted gone.

??????Anyone want elucidate on the above?

auditioning

Although this is his first appearance on CBS's "Survivor", Dan Foley has been actively part of the process for about 15 years. After seeing the first season of the show in 2000, Foley was hooked. He started applying and auditioning and didn't stop until he was casted. After over 100 applications, 15 casting calls, and thousands of miles traveled, Dan Foley is now a cast member of "Survivor: Worlds Apart."

Host of TideSmart Talk with Stevoe, Steve Woods, recently welcomed current Survivor contestant Dan Foley (right).

Dan Foley, a Gorham resident, has done it all. He's a minister, an electrician, a landlord, a ski instructor, a car salesman, and a postal worker, among a plethora of other things. Before last summer the only thing Dan Foley hadn't been was a "Survivor" contestant and it had been his goal and passion since season one in 2000 to get on the show. He had sent in applications multiple times before he decided to step it up and start attending casting calls in 2008. His first trip took him from Maine to South Carolina to Maryland to Pennsylvania and eventually back home again. He became so popular in the "Survivor" casting call world, that when he missed a casting call in Las Vegas in early 2013 he had strangers who had heard about him calling to ask why he didn't attend.
When Foley was asked to described the experience of being on survivor he said it was similar to a hostage situation. There is a pre-game event that occurs a week before the show starts filming, and during this time all of the contestants are placed in a run-down resort that appears to have been hit by a hurricane and everyone lives in a tent. The contestants are not allowed to look or talk to one another, and even though they are living in close proximity to one another they are in complete isolation. Foley said that he listened to Harry Potter on tape and walked around with his walkman in his hand to help kill his boredom.

That IC that was thrown was one of the weirdest moments ever.  Kudos to Dan for not wanting to go through with it.  Sure, Kelly would have been voted off, but she only lasted another 3 days anyway and wasn't any help post-merge to her tribe.  I will say that Dan has held up pretty well in the challenges, and he did impress me in the second R/IC.  Still don't like the guy and wish he was voted off long ago (if only WC had picked a different puzzle in that first challenge...) but I'll give him credit where its due.  And since the only threat he poses now is being too close to Mike and the blues, he's probably good for awhile.

That's some perseverance right there.  I recall post show interviews and day after videos with contestants where they mention how many years it took them to finally get on, but I think Dan might hold some kind of record if he applied each and every season since the first.  And Mike seems to be close to everyone this season.  It's as though he's kind of the center holding everyone together and bringing people in.  On Joe and Jenn's instagram/twitter, looks like he was with those two plus Sierra and Tyler in AZ this past weekend visiting Joe and his family.  I've seen him with Kelly, Max, Carolyn, I think Nina.  Only ones that don't seem to be much in the Survivor loop are Lindsey, Will, Joaquin, Rodney, and Vince.

Based on this deleted scene from the episode where they threw the challenge, I'm not buying what Dan is selling about "refusing to throw" the challenge.  In the deleted scene, he explains what a good idea it was to throw challenges and he strategically didn't blow his run so as to not make it obvious to the other side what was going on. Methinks he didn't know this scene would exist when he was speaking at the viewing party.

I knew as soon as I sided with Dan on something I'd find out he was lying lol  Some interview I read, maybe with Kelly, mentioned Sierra playing her part perfectly.  Because it didn't appear Sierra was throwing the challenge, either.  I hope Jeff brings that up at the reunion, even though we likely won't get the truth.  I really want this season to be over, just to get to the interviews and see what was really happening.  Quite a bit of spin going on from most of the pre-jury boots already.  I can't imagine what the rest will be like.

There are no words to describe this baboon that calls himself a man.  And it is seriously creepy when Dan is in the water and talking to one of the ladies out there.  All that's missing is some cheap 70s porno music.  He doesn't seem to get that look when one of the guys is out there with him.

So Dan, explain the numbers thing to me-Shirin is on the bottom of her alliance.  Are you just trying to woo her to your side so she can be on the bottom there, or were you rubbing it in?  I thought at first he was trying to appeal to her to join their side, but yeah, now I see he was likely just rubbing it in.  Either way one of the worst people ever cast.  Your Mike's minion that can't play this game for yourself, and if they didn't need your vote you'd be getting voted off.  The more vitrol they throw at Shirin, the more I like her.

Oh, and apparently not only can favorites not do simple math, but can't spell the very tagline that has been used since season 1, episode 1.

I just am totally enraged at this guy.  He takes such joy in shredding women who are short on numbers against him in the game.  First Sierra, then Shirin.  And I think what fans the flames of my rage even more is the Probst spoke of him pre-season as being one of the best characters on the show.  For fucks sake (and no, I'm not going to abbreviate that), why would anyone promote him if he's shown to be this horrible to women?  That just leads Dan to think:  look at me, I'm loud, I'm just being nice, I'm just awesome, I am a character!

This could be exactly what Probst meant.  But again, he seems to think differently than a good percent of viewers when it comes to what makes the show good.  Maybe he just figured Dan would be some big old fat guy that's a huge super fan and people would find his sense of humor charming.  Even though I don't believe it's humor as much as that's how Dan really is.  Of course he could always have known that viewers would get repulsed by him and think that's what made great TV.  Dan is the very poster child for people looking for love-if he can find someone that puts up with him, there's hope for anyone out there.  What I don't understand are all the people being so tight lipped this season.  On another season, no one (especially no woman) would put up with Dan or Rodney's BS.  They would give them a huge tongue lashing.  No one seems to be doing that this season.

Could Dan just STFU...........forever!?!?!?Jeez! He is so annoying and condescending. I'm sure he will blame it on editing and say he isn't a jerk but the guy can't help himself when he talks. I would hate having to actually listens to him in real life.

I here you ByaNose about his editing claims.  Thus, for posterity, I'm going to quote his confessional about Shirin via the Dalton Ross recap:

“Shaneeni or whatever her name is—I can’t remember her damn name because she annoys me so much—somebody slap this woman. For the love of God just slap her and shut her up already. Dear God in heaven, do us all a favor. I cannot wait until her torch goes out.”

So, assuming he can't blame editing, I now think we are going to hear about "context".  Yeah, tell me about the context for that Dan.

I think what I liked best about Dan's IC loss is when Probst was checking the puzzle, Dan kept his arms up in triumph.  And then had to be told he had it wrong.  It seemed like it took him twice to get it wrong for others to realize what it was.

For the record, I used to suck at those types of puzzles.  I remember having them as a kid, and it always seemed like one piece would not go where it was supposed to.  Probably didn't help that I gave up after 5 minutes.

I made the comment last week in the episode thread about how there was not anyone in the game that I really disliked.  Well Dan changed my mind this week.  This guy might call himself a "superfan" but is he really?

I mean in a game like Survivor you are going to piss off people if you last long enough.  However, one should not go out of their way to intentionally piss off a potential jury member for no reason.  What he did to Shirin was just plain dumb.

Lindsey said in her interviews that Dan wanted to be remembered and was playing a character. If his idea of a character is a fucking misogynistic asshole then fuck him and I hope that he is doing massive amounts of damage control for a long, long time.

What pisses me off even more are the people who want Dan to stay on, I am look at Rob on Rob has a Podcast, because his behavior is so awful it is great tv. Misogynistic assholeness is not great TV. Watching a man discuss the need to slap a woman is not great TV. Finding it so over the top it is humorous is not good for women or society.

So fuck Dan. Fuck him if this is who he really is. Fuck him even more if he thinks that being this type of an asshole is a great character that will make for great TV.

ETA: I am ranting over at Rob's site. So sick of the BS and people laughing at it and writing it off as good TV.

This idiotic, rabid, prehistoric asshole is a minister?!?  Of what faith, the First Church of Misogyny?

I seriously have never been so repulsed by someone on TV in my life.
