Fabric quality across the industry has declined partly due to climate change. The cotton growing today  is not the same as the cotton that was grown 10 years ago or longer. And when fast-fashion booms like what has been happening with Shein, that trickles down into the factories making clothing for Target, Walmart, Old Navy, and mid-level brands like GAP, J Crew, and Banana Republic. It's very difficult to find well-made inexpensive clothing outside of a thrift store.

I’ve bought some, and other than some fading they have kept their shape and are still wear well after 7 years.

For the already owned drawstring pants, tie the drawstring in a bow. When you need to go pull both ends at the same time.  It's a quick release move.

I live in black yoga pants or black Land's End pants.  I don't want to think about how old some of the Land's End pants are.

What about elastic waist?  Are you looking for men's or women's?  For women's, Pact has drawstring, but the darkest colour is a charcoal colour called "storm."  It's probably not dressy enough for what you're looking for.  Athleta might have some selection as well.

 I have got several pairs of Lands' End elastic waist knit pants.  I live in those all winter long.  But I don't just have black, I have gray and navy blue too.  I have multiple pairs of Lands' End yoga pants too.  These are items I always look for when I go to their annual warehouse clearance sale in the summer, held about 40 miles from where I live.  I think a majority of my wardrobe is from Lands' End:  t-shirts both short and long sleeved, polo shirts both short and long sleeved, knit pants, regular pants, fleeces, sweaters, yoga pants, shorts, nightgowns, bathrobes, coats.  Not to mention sheets and towels.  They do regular sales.  Right now it's 50% off site wide with the code KNIT50.  I'm not employed by Lands' End, just a Wisconsinite who has shopped there for decades.

Peeve of the day - when someone asks your advice on something you are actually quite knowledgeable about - and every single suggestion won't work because...reasons.  I should know by now that mostly when someone asks for advice all they really want is to vent or else to have you validate the choice they've already made and yet I fall into this trap every single time.

To be honest I have severe osteoporosis. If a dog is allowed to jump on me, causing me to fall and break a bone, they shouldn’t be surprised if I sue them for the medical costs as they have been warned. I hate to even think this way, but why should I be out thousands of dollars because they have failed to control their dog? 
 

I have an empty lot between a nice neighbor and me. She got into a rather loud argument with her neighbor on the other side about not picking up her dog’s logs. So many think that lot is no scoop zone. It isn’t. It’s the law to keep them leashed and bag up any droppings.

The fact that a local radio station started playing Christmas music 24 hours a day today. I may be one of a few Christmas traditionalists left (I don’t do any shopping or decorating until after Black Friday and I still listen to regular music in December if I get tired of hearing Santa Claus is Coming to Town for the 800th time), but I wish they would wait until Black Friday or maybe December 1 to start. Pretty soon they may as well start on November 1.

No Christmas music on our radio stations yet but they started playing it in some of the stores here November 1.  Of course we  also noticed a few trees going up inside houses nearby as well then too.  If it makes someone happy it's not a big deal to me but I honestly wonder how anyone can stand All Things Christmas for, basically, two months.  It seems...a lot.

Compressor guy took down the Halloween lights and decor on November 1 and put up Christmas trees and lights. Christmas and Thanksgiving both were put out November 1 at the stores I visited early Nov 2.  I have so far not heard Christmas music, but I haven't been out much.

November 1 is the earliest day I'll ever play Christmas music (save for when I was in high school and in the school's choir.  Rehearsals for the Nativity begin in October) and I won't put up a tree before Remembrance Day (November 11).  Most years, it goes up after December 1.

Same here, it snowed pretty good but nothing stuck. Not too far away, north of us, there were places that got between 8-26”. We did get some rain before and after but not enough. We’re in a drought with fire warnings every day for weeks now.

We got a slight dusting of snow Thursday night -- just enough stuck so that I could see the footprints of whatever small mammal visited my deck that night.  Probably a skunk.  

Now it's just cold and windy.

 We got it here. It was so pretty. It snowed overnight(Thurs/Fri) but it had all but melted by Friday afternoon(temps rose)

It snowed here the other night as well. Didn't get a ton of snow or anything, but it was enough to make the grass and roads white for a few hours. It's all melted now, though.

Going to Walmart and half the products are locked up and no one around to come get them for you. Even $4 shaving cream is inaccessible now unless I get someone to unlock the case. I needed razors last night, and even though the shelves with the three or four pack of razors were walked up, you could just grab a box with one razor and 10 blades. Tell me how the box is safe to keep out on display for anyone to grab but the cheap four pack of razors is under lock and key. 

The Target near me doesn’t lock up personal care products (it’s mostly just electronics and phone cases, which is understood) and laundry detergent, so I’ll probably take my business there. I’d also rather just run to the CVS five minutes down the road instead of waiting for who knows how long to get razors unlocked.

People today have ZERO manners.  I was running errands, about to enter a mall to head to the grocery store when a young woman decided to reply to a text right in front of an automatic door. She had a dog with her and the dog looked confused.  She just stood there and I had to say "excuse me" before she moved (and she looked p!$$ed).  If you're going to text, do it AWAY from a door.  I don't think she even realized the dog was trying to tell her that it was time to go inside (or move).

I swear, going to the grocery store makes me dislike people more and more. Our nearest grocery stores added these weird auto-open barriers at the entrances and they are soooo slooooww. The other day, I go in, get a cart, then get caught behind a lady walking into the store proper. She paused at the doors to get one of the circulars with all the deals, which she decided to peruse while leaving her cart blocking the door. When she finally decided to go in, she waited until the barriers opened all the way, paused a few more seconds, then walked in, meaning I had to wait for the damned things to open again.

And I swear, they need designated hours for anyone shopping with children under 18. I would put it younger, but last time I was there, there were three separate people, each with a teen boy. Every single boy looked like he had no clue where he was, bumping into things, nearly knocking into people with their carts, or just standing blocking the aisle, mouth-breathing until their parent grabbed them and yanked them out of the way.

Then there are the younger kids, who dart out of nowhere or toddle slowly right in the middle of an aisle while their parent pays zero attention. Surprising more don’t get run over.

Finally, I’m all for teaching children new skills. But late afternoon when there’s a long line is not the time to let your 6-year-old do the self check.

@AgathaC Parents should just teach their children good manners.  And this includes not texting in the middle of the aisle or by entrances/exits.  But then again, I see adults do that, so maybe they need to learn themselves.  Heck, that woman's dog (the one I mentioned earlier) knew that their human was being rude!  Dog should have barked though.  They just pulled on the leash (human was too engrossed with her typing).

Agreed! Adults are just as bad half the time. What amazed me the other day was none of the teens were on phones. Some sort of miracle, I’m sure. Didn’t make them any less rude or any more aware of their surroundings…

I never understand the people that go out grocery shopping as a family, like it’s some big excursion. Occasionally I’ll have to run to the store after work and I’ll have my kids with me but that’s for one or two items. When I do my weekly shopping I leave them at home and get my groceries solo. I understand the parents that are flying solo or just simply can’t leave the kids home alone but what I see is Mom, Dad, teenage kids, little kids, etc all shopping together. 
Today I ran in to Aldi for a couple things and a lady was using a scooter because she had obviously broken her foot/leg. She had her husband helping her get things and it was obvious he had never stepped inside a grocery store before. He couldn’t find anything she was pointing out to him, kept running into people, blocking the whole aisle. I eventually just left and got the remainder of my list at another store.

These are generally people that take up whole aisles, have no list, have no visible disability (yes, I know many disabilities aren’t visible as I suffer from my own), and have no control of their kids so it’s not like they are helping and the other adult looks like the grocery store is the last place they’d rather be. I shop at the same stores every week and I see the same families in there. My brother and sister in law do this as well and again- Pet Peeves- I’d much prefer shopping on my own than dragging my whole family of five through the grocery store if I had the option.

I had this happen to me yesterday.  Mom and Dad and three kids.  Two of the kids were fine but the third was a little terror.  Mom and Dad picked out the groceries but were also on their phones the entire time.  Multi-tasking at its finest, but they didn't bother to include controlling the little terror as one of their tasks.

I see people do this as well.  Also, usually men, on the phone with , presumably their wife, who is telling him exactly what to buy and where in the store to find it.  I always picture some poor woman with a broken leg getting more and more exasperated every time he calls to say "where would I find milk".

I met such a man in the store yesterday.  I helped him find something.  Then he was calling his wife about something else.  To be fair, he helped me find something!  They keep changing this store around so no one knows where things are.   Fortunately, this is a smallish store and not the Stop and Shop, where you need roller skates to get around.

Sez who?  I pretty much only use my cell phone to text people who prefer that method of communication & I don't do a lot of that, so I hardly ever know where the darn thing is.  My list, on the other hand, lives in my back pocket & is always with me.

Well, clearly not you. And I, personally, would be the same, as I rarely use my phone, and am good at keeping track of things I need (i.e. a list). But judging by how the majority of people are constantly glued to their phones, I would say we're the outliers.

Okay, I’ll take a stab. Maybe it’s a running list where you keep adding and crossing off items? And/or a list that includes items from multiple stores, but you’re only going to one on this trip?

I’m a paper list in my back pocket gal myself. Sometimes I’ll forget my list at home and have my kids text me a picture of it and I find it the most annoying way to shop. 
Alas, I loath grocery shopping and my sister in law picks on me for the way I shop. Grab the cart, race through the store and how dare anyone get in my way!

I forgot to download the app I had on my other phone, for shopping lists.  I used to use that, and I carry around a notebook.  Dad has teased me that I’m like Linus with his blanket.  I have it for shopping lists, and to-do lists.  I break some things down into actions, like blending and freezing, too.  Unload dishwasher/load it/run it.

I need the phone at all times. Mostly for business. I then don’t need to carry the paper around.  I’m a Luddite/techie hybrid. I still like writing things down. But then I’d rather just carry the phone around.

You are all illustrating for me why grocery shopping in general is one of my least favorite chores and why i do pick-up orders. The seemingly inevitable errors made by the order pickers are super-annoying, but worth it in comparison.

I do a lot of delivery since I need to rely on someone to drive me if I have to do a huge order.  But shoppers are sometimes horrible at communication and don't read notes about size and/or expiry dates (okay, fine, it might be a language issue but phones have translation apps).  And subscription services are sometimes not that great with letting the client know about substitutions either (e.g. I'm pretty picky about cucumbers - I prefer baby cukes over full sized ones never want the full size as a sub).

My parents did the 'pack the kids into the station wagon and bring them all to go grocery shopping' thing when I was a kid.  Saturday evenings.  I think it was because my father traveled A LOT for work and this was one way of them spending time together (& him w/ the kids too).

I do not trust any employee with an order that includes produce and meat. I have seen my local stores have products on the shelf that should not be sold too many times to trust anyone but me to select the correct one. From frozen bagged salad mixes to bruised apples to greyish looking beef that are all technically okay to sell, all of this could end up in your pick-up order. I know the employee does not care about getting me the best just the first one they lay their hands on before moving on to their next task.
