My favorite show about awful rich people having an existential crisis while on vacation (this time in Thailand) is back.  I already want to kick most of them in their soft private places.

Last time was guys trip.  Now its the ladies turn.     Although not family like with the guys it looks like the ladies are the long time friends who don't actually like each other.   Fun Fun Fun.

And then we have the family of douche bags.  Dad looks like he might be shady and going to prison when he gets home.  Wife pops pills like they were candy.   Older son thinks he is the man.   I am thinking younger son will turn out to be gay.   Daughter is a bit a mystery and the one I can't put my finger on yet.

My only thought was that older son apparently wants to have sex with his siblings.  That whole scene with he and his brother in the bedroom, what the hell was that?!?  Where is this even going?

We have this series' second rich family that somehow didn't make sure their vacation rental included enough rooms for all members.

In fairness, all the kids have beds this time around and I don't mind two siblings sharing a room.  That first season, they put one of the kids in the bar area to sleep.  It was bizarre.

I do like the girl's trip.  So much tension there that I can't wait to watch it just explode into chaos.

I also see why they brought Belinda back now.

He is super creepy, so far he's the only character I outright hate already. I'm pretty neutral on everyone else, although Chelsea seems the most likable so far.

The White Lotus finally returns to do what it does best: bring us to a beautiful, vibrant location with breathtaking scenery, culture, and history, and watch a bunch of rich assholes squander this opportunity to better themselves or have a happy life despite their wealth.  Never change!

I obviously knew there was going to be some shady stuff with the Ratliff clan, but I was not quite prepared for just how insane it went.  Sure, the mom seems to be popping pills like candy and the dad is clearly involved in something illegal and might be going down for it, but apparently we got ourselves a good old-fashioned Targaryen situation with the siblings!  HBO and potential incest: there has never been a more popular pair post-Game of Thrones!

Rick is clearly up to no good and pretty much personifies the mid life crisis douchebag, with the smoking, horrible Hawaiian shirts, greasy hair, and having a much younger girlfriend.  Normally I'd ask what she sees in him (besides potentially being rich), but after I saw how many thirsted over The Ghoul on Fallout, I've learn to underestimate Walton Goggins' sex appeal at your own peril!

Right now, the trio of friends seems to be the most shallow on the surface, but I think they could end up going in some interesting and surprising directions.  I wonder if there will be more to Carrie c****'s character besides being just jealous over the other two's supposed success and lives?

Another romance involving two of the staff members.  Considering how those played out in the previous seasons, I don't have much faith on this ending on a good note.

Glad that Belinda (and eventually her son) is here.  She better make it out of this in one piece.

On the flip side, fucking Greg!  Of course, that asshole is still around, visiting various White Lotuses and has his own younger girlfriend.  I wish the worst on him, but knowing how things tend to go, he'll probably keep popping up every season.

Right now, Saxon is the contender of being the worst, but to be fair, with that name, he was pretty much destined to end up like this.  On the other end, Chelsea (Rick's girlfriend) and Piper (the daughter) were probably the most likable outside of Belinda.

Cast was great as expected, although Jason Isaacs' attempt at an Carolina accent was dodgy at best.  But, hey, this won't be the worst thing he did to the Carolinas compared to his actions in The Patriot!

Looks like the mystery this time is some kind of shoot-out that will lead to at least one dead body.  So far, the most obvious sign is pointing to a potential confrontation between Rick and Daddy Ratliff who are already butting heads, but it really could be anyone.  I also have to imagine that the poisonous fruit the staff member mentioned will factor in somewhere this season.  Maybe the twist will be everyone dies this time (except Belinda, dammit!)

Can't wait to see what crazy shit Mike White has plan this go around!

Well hello White Lotus, we're back and  everyone is already insufferable.  Just how we love it.

Belinda's back and thinks everything is going to go well.  It's only a matter of time before she sees Greg.  What a reveal by the way.

The opening scene was intense.  Guessing that was Belinda's son.  Really hope she lives.

And what a surprise (not really), we're in Thailand where the staff is local but the general manager is a foreign white guy.

Not surprising that Laurie is probably the most intriguing character.  Being the outlier in a 3 friend circle, I felt that. The Victory Lap is definitely my favorite guest storyline so far.  Can't wait to see this inevitable blow up.

And the Ratliffs.  Hoo boy that family is a lot to unpack.  Glad I'm not the only one getting Lannister vibes.  Parker Posey is going to be a hoot in this. I know Patrick Schwarzenegger is the son of...well... obviously.  But Lachlan is Sam Nivola, son of Alessandro Nivola and Emily Mortimer.

Chelsea is probably the most likable of the bunch.  Rick is definitely on a vendetta involving the owner husband.

Good to see the hotel restaurant is still a secondary character in this show.

The White Lotus Season 3 | Opening Theme Song | Max

So the opening video sequence hints at animal passions getting out of control, as gradually the wildlife encroaches into the human habitat, which of course was the original encroachment by man into wildlife habitats, like no doubt this luxury resort on Koh Samui, which was gradually developed and no doubt overdeveloped to accommodate global tourism.

The opening credit sequence for season 2 is similar but it definitely had more graphic sexual depictions IIRC, the people in the drawings or paintings getting freaky-deaky.

In this one, eventually the animals seem to win and you have more and more images of them attacking or eating the people.

But is it a commentary just on people interacting with wildlife or really about humans being "animals" to each other?

The reviews said something very controversial happens in episode 5 & 6 so yeah it is probably this.

Good to see the hotel restaurant is still a secondary character in this show.

Opening was great, with Zion trying to stay low in the water of the pond transitioning directly to the traditional boat arrival to the WL.

IIRC in both previous seasons, the boat trips were always eventful.  In this one, Tim and Rick were about to fight over the latter's smoking.

Then you had the owner of the resort, a former singer/actress, making the boat circle around the bay because she was not ready getting made up to greet the guests.

At least initially, the Ratliffs seem too much but the two younger children seem like nice people, at least in this episode.  How could anyone in this family turn out thus?  Saxon's philosophy of life, as he laid it out to Lochy was something alright.

Considering previous WL characters, Mike White seems to have a thing about toxic masculinity.

I guess the BFF girls are on their best behavior as they arrive.  The previews show that the claws are coming out.  Margo (Carrie c****) feels hurt that Jaclyn and Kate continue their convo after she leaves them?

It's interesting that they're so complimentary of each other's looks and then in another scene, you have Chelsea and Chloe bonding at the bar after complimenting each other on some physical attribute.

And women blame men for being too preoccupied with how women look.

I guess Greg's reappearance isn't too surprising.  Hey, many people didn't like Tanya but I wouldn't have minded if they kept having the character appear every season.

The differences in the Thai characters are interesting.  Mook is actually played by a pop star, seems amiable.  Her friend who got her to  the resort seems like a decent fellow but those security guards are scary.  Presumably it's not the last we will see of them.

Unless I’m missing something, she exited the conversation voluntarily so I’m unsure how she could be mad that they continue a conversation she chose to exit.

I think, for now, she’s feeling like a third wheel or maybe she was the stereotypical “third friend” that they keep around out of pity or something like that.

I haven't watched yet and only knew WL was back after catching this snipper from Arnold Schwarzenger today about his son:

-------------

Schwarzenegger hints that there are more nude scenes (or at least uncomfortable ones) to come this season. "Episodes 5 and 6, there will be some times that I take some bathroom breaks from the family, or maybe I won't watch that episode," he told press.

Meantime, his real-life father seems unfazed by his son's disrobing. "What a show!" he wrote on Instagram after attending the premiere. "I could claim to be surprised to find out he has a nude scene, but what can I say — the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree."

The White Lotus airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.

S03 opening credits have interesting illustrations but the new theme song is kinda meh. S02 theme song is still the best, it’s iconic.

S01 — A body being transported into a plane.

S02 — A body floating in the ocean.

S03 — A body floating in the lotus pond.

The black couple that Belinda sees at the restaurant — cameos by Natalie Cole and Carl Boudreaux from Survivor S37.

The best lines from S03•E01.

Yes, when the actress and the other women were praising one another, and then they suddenly seemed to realize Carrie c**** was also there and offered her some faint praise about her job and daughter, you could kind of feel her deflate.

  • The Ratliffs: The older son is super gross and already detestable. Hopefully the weird vibes are a fakeout and he's not actually into into his younger siblings. I'm getting the feeling the youngest son is closeted, which explains why the sister wanted to share a room, possibly protecting him from the uncomfortableness of having to share a room with horndog Saxon? We know the sister converts to Buddhism at some point this season, and that she's working on a thesis. I hope they move away from the whole "young woman falls in love whilst on vacation" trope that's played out in some form in the last two seasons.
  • Parker Posey is slathering that accent on thick. Wealthy NC doesn't have nearly that strong of an accent compared to other parts of the south, especially in the triangle/cities. It's like she's doing a June Carter Walk the Line impression. It's a little too much and distracting. Jason Isaacs' is strong too.
  • So the Ratliff dad is involved in something pretty shady and it's not looking good, especially if journalists are calling him about it. Rick is clearly involved in some shadiness as well, and it's heavily implied he's into some kind of criminality by not being able to go to Australia. We know he's involved in some deal with Hollinger that seems like it went bad.
  • The three friends - I'm definitely sensing the one woman feels like the odd one out and didn't seem like she didn't really want to go but felt obligated since it was paid for by the other friend.  There is a definite tension there.
  • Belinda is back! The jumpscare with the massive monitor lizard was pretty funny, but also, you'd think she wouldn't be so shocked at nature considering she lives on a tropical island herself and it's not like Hawaii isn't full of lizards and bugs. Seems like they're setting her up to be hypervigilant for a reason.
  • Greg is also back, which hopefully means he'll be getting his just desserts this season. Lol at the "bald guys in Thailand"/LBH thing that is so accurate.
  • This season's soundtrack is AMAZING.

100% this. She was so over the top I actually thought it was a bit. Definite creep vibes from the elder son. I really hope he's not diddling his siblings.

I want to watch the ep again & play closer attention to the intros.

Its time for another season of "rich people go to the most amazing places in the world but make themselves so miserable with their various neurosis and petty power plays that they don't even enjoy it" and I am here for it. Thailand is gorgeous and the soundtrack is great so I am excited to enjoy all of that as things totally fall apart for the latest pack of rich weirdos.

The Ratliff's already have a weird dynamic, even beyond the mom popping pills like water and the dad being up to some sketchy business stuff. I am glad I'm not a freak for catching the creepy vibes between the older son and his younger siblings, he's way too obsessed with their sex lives and talking about how hot they are, its super creepy. The younger siblings both seem pretty nice and normal so far, hopefully we don't actually go...there with either of them and young Patrick Bateman.

Jason Isaacs doing a North Carolina accent isn't too bad, but Parker Posey seems like she's doing a cartoon character, which is pretty on pair for this show, they need a few campy oddballs every season.

The Victory Lap girl squad are all roses and sunshine for now, but I give it about an episode before the claws start to come out. Nothing like long time friends on vacation together far from home to bring up a lifetime of unspoken issues and resentment. It seems like Carrie c**** feels like the odd one out, the "average" one compared to her friends success, they are my favorite plot so far.

Rick is a huge asshole so far and it seems like he's here for business/sketchy reasons rather than for vacation, but his girlfriend seems nice so far.

Its great to see Belinda again, less so seeing Greg again, but hopefully this means he might get the kick in karma that he so deserves.

Not a lot with the Thai cast so far, the wellness girl and the gate guy seem nice but those security guys seem on the scary side. So many possible options for what could be going on, so many possible killers and victims.

I think it was a culmination of everything.  Leslie Bibb's character made it seem like she might have left as well but then she went back to have a conversation.  Leslie and Michelle's characters talk about how good the other one looks, how great their lives are...etc.  And Carrie clearly doesn't feel like she has much to contribute to that conversation and the two friends subtly imply that they don't think she has as much as they do.

One subtle thing I think I noticed is the level of botox between the women.  I believe I saw lines on Carrie's forehead.  The implication is that she's more 'real world' and less perfectly polished as her friends.  That probably isn't the case, as I'm sure we'll see throughout the season, but that might not stop all of them from having some unconscious bias around something like that.

I think those other two are bi and want each other.  Or maybe already had each other. But yes she's definitely the 3rd wheel.

Apart from the rich family, I was having trouble keeping track of all of the characters, especially their names.  The three blonde friends, it's like they are the Crawley sisters on Downton Abbey.  There's the Lady Mary main character hot one (Michelle Monaghan, the TV star), the just as hot one who is just as rich (Leslie Bibb), and then the sad sack woe-is-me Lady Edith frumpy one.  The show purposely makes Carrie C00n look frumpy, that trapezoid haircut is definitely not flattering.

Then there's guy who wants to meet owner's American husband to do a business deal and his much younger English girlfriend.  There's the lady the English girlfriend met at the bar who apparently is dating Greg.  Is this the same lady that Saxon hit on at the pool?

The Ratliff family does seem all kinds of messed up.  Dad's business is failing and in trouble and he appears to have made some sort of illegal deal that has backfired.  Mom pops pills and is generally trying to keep up her image as a perfect Southern rich wife.

As for the siblings, that tweet posted above seems to imply that there will be incest.  The "other HBO show that got away with it" seems to be Game of Thrones.

I really hope the sister is not involved.  Saxon seems like a player, he is telling his younger brother that you have to play the numbers, i.e. keep trying and at some point you will succeed.  Don't see why he would turn to his sister.

The younger brother seems to idolise him and probably wants to be him.  Saxon knows it, that's why he sleeps naked in the same room as his brother and doesn't care.  But he does see Locky creepily staring at him in the bathroom and closes the door.  I think it will be a threesome where Saxon invites a woman back into their room for Locky's benefit.  Then Locky indicates he is more interested in Saxon?

I knew that Greg was going to be alive.  I assume he got all of Tonya's money.  I hope he gets his just desserts this season.  He's not a particularly entertaining character so I don't know why the show has to keep him around.

I don't know what is going on with Natasha but I hope she survives.

Haven’t learned anyone’s names yet so I am just going by vague descriptions.  But I am thinking main family unit comes from an upper middle class area where they are the big time family.   They are  used to getting their way.  Used to going to the same vacations where the staff bend over backwards for them.  Where other people bend over backwards for them because they are the special lucky family of the area.   THIS is a new place,  new trip for them where other guests are just as wealthy and not particularly interested in them.   You saw it with older brother flirting with the young lady.   I am guessing back home it doesn’t take much.   Take off his shirt and smile and he gets the girl.   But here at The White Lotus in Thailand he isn’t as special as he thinks he is.    My guess is his story is going to be him getting shot down time and time again by girls who frankly can do better.

I expected Greg to be alive.  He left before all the mayhem of last season.  I am more curious if he is on the run, or got away with his crime.  Tonya's assistant did escape last season and while she doesn't know everything, she knows enough to at least see Greg investigated and perhaps charged.  That's presuming that she wasn't too frightened to come forward.

That's what I was wondering too.  His new girlfriend says that he bought a house up on the hill and that he's been in Thailand for a year.

I wonder how much Belinda knows.  I wonder how much anyone knows about Greg's part in the plan to kill his wife.

I don't think Belinda should care.  She spent all of Season 1 befriending Tonya and listening to her problems and enduring the endless crying about her dead mom.  She talked to Tonya about opening her own spa with Tonya as the primary investor.  Tonya was very interested and they bonded.  Then Tonya met Greg and completely blew off Belinda and focused all of her time and attention on him.  Belinda was devastated when Tonya told her she wasn't going to invest.

She might have heard about the death of a guest at a White Lotus in Italy, and made the connection, but she probably meets hundreds of people every week.  She had a brief bond with Tonya, but as with most guests, the guest leaves and Belinda never heard from her again.

I don't think Belinda met Greg, did she?  Even if she did, at that point, Greg seemed like he had nothing but good intentions.  Belinda wouldn't have known anything about Greg's plot to steal Tonya's money.

So every season, there's been a dead body at 3 different WL resorts.

How do they keep people coming, especially for probably thousands a night?

Trying to imagine what would happen if a very famous hotel anywhere had someone die on their premises.

Or if 3 different facilities of the same global chain had such unfortunate happenstance.

I think though it's Mike White's way of constructing season-length plots, to have a mystery, kind of a whodunnit or how someone died, who the victim is, etc.

But I'd be watching the show even if someone didn't die.

Why is Belinda at this resort? Is she on vacation?

Every time Saxon is on screen I watch through my fingers. Too disturbing. The actor playing his younger brother is so talented! I think it's ridiculous that they have to share a room given how wealthy the family is. I love Parker Posey but the moment she started talking I thought oh no this is annoying.

She might have heard about Tanya's death since she was an elite White Lotus member.  Part of me wonders if she's in contact or knows Portia but I don't think she would.  That said if Greg fell victim to Checkov's poisoned fruit I wouldn't weep.

Greg's new girlfriend said that they live in Thailand so maybe he's hiding out from the cops there? But going to a white lotus hotel if hiding is dumb. Hopefully the assistant did tell the police and let Greg get away with all the money.

The rich family siblings dynamic is weird in a creepy uncomfortable way.  The father being called by WSJ not good sign.

Watching the rich, creepy family from North Carolina, I just kept thinking of Michael Peterson and The Staircase...probably because Patrick Schwarzenegger and Parker Posey were both in that miniseries too. Patrick played a handsome, disturbed son in that too, tho his character here is definitely different. He plays douchebag well here. I hate him.

Well, you kind of hate most people on White Lotus, just in general. Greg! Ugh. I could have lived without seeing him ever again, though if he gets his just desserts, then it will be worth it. Why a young beauty like Charlotte would be with him is baffling, unless he did get all of Tonya's fortune at her death. I would still not be surprised to see Jennifer C show back up in flashbacks with either Greg or Belinda, but maybe not.

I have no idea what Rick's deal is...is he a hitman? Someone with a score to settle? He seems absolutely uninterested in Chelsea, in fact he seems to kind of hate her, though she's delightful and sunny and positive. Which is maybe WHY he hates her, but why is he with her? Whatever, it's Walton Goggins, who still manages to bring a louche sartorial sort of glamour to his Hawaiian shirts and cargo pants and perpetual cigarette, and is never not fun to watch.

I'm interested in the 3 dysfunctional friends, who I'm not sure actually even like one another, and clearly Carrie C is supposed to be the ugly duckling of the group, which: sure. But her hair is kinda bad.

That hotel is STUNNING. Looks like it'd set you back around 10 grand, or more, for a few days there.

I hope Belinda makes it out alive.

Me neither.  I know Tonya figured it out but I thought she was the only one. I don't remember Portia being told. But maybe she did?  I do remember Leo Woodall's character basically telling her to forget everything that happened.

Yeah I don't think they would know about each other either.  I assumed Tanya just cut Belinda off after Hawaii.  Portia didn't truly know but the fact that her boss had died and was almost herself killed meant she had to put a few pieces together.  We see in the season preview that Belinda sees Greg and clearly remembers him.  I don't know we'll just have to watch.

I just IMDb on a few cast members and holy hell how did I not catch that GM Fabian was Rudolf freaking Hoss from Zone of Interest.

It's obvious, I think, that that's how the other two see it, and that Carrie C (don't remember her name on the show yet) believes it, even tho she's obviously just as pretty as they are. Nothing really wrong with her hair, but it's not super flattering or styled. I thought all of this was meant to be obvious.
