Notabug January 10 Share January 10 Was very definitely influenced by ER in the pace and the writing. No surprise that quite a few ER vets are on board besides NW. I'm not sure the concept, where the entire season covers a single 15 hour day in the ER hour by hour is working. It worked on 24, though, so maybe they'll convince me. However, I don't know anyone who works 15 hour shifts in the ER; 12 is the norm. Maybe the last several eppies will be the cast leaving and heading home after their shift. Multiple stories involving multiple patients and their families was definitely a throwback to ER. I didn't find myself becoming invested in any of them, though. I also wondered what they were thinking when they let the kid who was seemingly planning mass murder at school take off. Maybe I missed it, but medical staff, both doctors and nurses, are mandated reporters. As soon as the mom told them about the hit list, the kid should've been placed in a secure room and psychiatry called. Not to mention notifying the police and school of the situation immediately as part of the plan. Instead, when the kid ran faster than NW, it was 'Oh well, he got away. Better luck next time'. The COVID ER scenes were a little funny to me in that NW was parading around wearing the outfit worn in the OR for joint replacements while everyone else was seemingly in regular scrubs with paper gowns and regular protective gear. That's not how protective gear is distributed or worn. Amongst other things, I worked in hospitals during that time and I don't remember anyone wearing OR sterile garb with respirators anywhere including the ER. Also, it made no sense that NW's character got the suit while everyone else wore typical infection disease type work wear. In real life, in the early days, even N-95's were in short supply and, on more than one occasion, the doctors at the hospital where I worked volunteered to let the nurses and those with closest contact with infected patients have priority in getting them until there were enough for everyone. Finally, the whole, 'everyone has an angsty secret that no one else knows' was just a bit much. The pregnant resident who hasn't told anyone and who seemingly hates NW's character, her boss, and doesn't try to hide it. NW being guilty over his former boss' suicide 5 years later to the point where he has chosen never to work on the anniversary until now. Really? Just a bit too angsty to be real. I also missed the camaraderie and humor that characterized the ER, especially in the early years. That really made the show for me. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151373-s01e01-700-am/#findComment-8551240

Or at least the in-show reason. The mom said he was 18 so he's no longer a minor. Dr. Robby said they'd need his agreement. 8 hours ago, Notabug said: NW being guilty over his former boss' suicide 5 years later to the point where he has chosen never to work on the anniversary until now. If he was an adult, then Robby could've 'pink slipped' him into the psych ward for a 72 hour hold without his consent. Happens all the time and the easiest way to get it done is in cases where the individual presents a threat to himself or others. Writing a manifesto calling for the deaths of multiple teens by name is more than enough evidence that others were conceivably in danger. Drives me a little crazy when shows ignore the obvious for the sake of 'dramah'. I thought the mentor died from COVID, too, while Robby was busy with other critical COVID patients and couldn't attend to him quickly enough but someone else said it was a suicide and I figured they had been paying better attention than me. CarpeFelis January 11 Share January 11 (edited) A couple of familiar faces I couldn’t place right away so I looked them up on IMDB. The sarcastic resident who comes up with the snarky nicknames is Isa Briones from Star Trek: Picard. The male med student is Gerran Howell, whom I’d seen in an episode of McDonald and Dodds, but remembered better from the title role in Young Dracula, of all things, where he was a teenager with hair dyed black. Very funny series about Dracula’s son who doesn’t really want to be a vampire. Oh - I didn't even realize they were doing that. Makes sense now. But I guess that means we won't be seeing any more of Shawn Hatosy. Unless he's called back in for some reason. I believe she is a 3rd year medical student. The typical person goes to undergrad right out of high school and is around 22 when they get their college degree. If they then go right on to med school as most do, they'd be around 25 in their 3rd year and 26 at graduation. My college roommate was 16 when she graduated high school in 3 years- she was already one of the younger kids in her class with a summer birthday. She then graduated from undergrad at 19 (bachelor of science in Chemistry in 3 years) and went straight to med school. Our med school had a 3 year program which meant going during the summers and shorter breaks. She did that, too, graduating from med school at 22. i don't recall anybody ever even noticing or commenting on it. She did find out that she was the youngest intern they'd ever had at the hospital where she matched. The fact that they're including med students as well as interns is interesting to me. It makes me wonder if we'll only have those cast members for a first season but they'll be replaced in a second season. I know rotations last different lengths and can vary from school to school but they're usually not longer than 12 weeks and often shorter than that. I think my doctor friend's average rotation was 6 weeks when she was in med school. So either Season 2 is only a couple of weeks later or there will be a new group of students and even possible some new residents. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151373-s01e01-700-am/#findComment-8552413
AheadofStraight Monday at 03:37 AM Share Monday at 03:37 AM I really enjoyed this. There was just something really comforting about having "Carter" on my screen again in these crazy times. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151373-s01e01-700-am/#findComment-8553400
JeanJean Monday at 03:48 AM Share Monday at 03:48 AM Just some trivia: 3 of the interns/med students are nepo babies. Mel is Bryan Cranston's daughter. The sarcastic one is Jon Jon Brione's daughter. I can't remember who's the third. I liked Dr. Handsome a lot. He's like the new Matt Boehmer. I liked the charge nurse, too. Morrigan2575 Monday at 02:51 PM Share Monday at 02:51 PM A little clunky as all pilots are, setting up characters and relationships. I'm curious as to why Dr Collins and Dr Robby have so much conflict. I like the charge nurse and the new Dr King but the others will take some time. I started watching fireworks Noah Wyle as I loved ER and Carter back in the day. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151373-s01e01-700-am/#findComment-8553592

Since I only saw a single billboard I had no idea that it was a 24 like concept show instead of ER or Code Black with more graphic injuries. It was basically do the characters work. With the med students I was thinking has a nurse's first day ever been a series focus. While I won't buy Max to get the series while I'm visiting/house sitting for our kid I can see binge watching the series Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151373-s01e01-700-am/#findComment-8553981

The mom said he made a list of girls he'd like to harm. Is that enough to commit someone you've barely spoken to? I don't know. I liked the show. I can also see why Michael Crichton's estate is suing, if only because you switch the location to Chicago, change some names and this show could be the ER revival that was originally being planned.
