S18.E03: Did Y'all Meet My Husband

Did anything interesting/noteworthy happen on the Afterparty? For some reason my DVR recording didn't include it this time (maybe they split out the listings).

The coming up scenes for the season gave me anxiety, not knowing what was misleading, what was overblown, what was an actual sign of things to come, etc. Apparently I've become invested in Madison and Allen working out and will be sad if they don't. Doesn't help that there haven't been any spoilers about decision day yet (at least not here; I'm not quite invested enough to go searching elsewhere).

I temporarily forgot that Tom was a twin and was really confused for a minute at the beginning of Camille's chat with his friends/groomsmen, thinking somehow she was having that chat with Tom there.

Well, I'm not hopeful - again.  Madison will not be happy with an guy who is too nice and not great looking with a hot bod.  Tom is too set in his ways and won't be able to commit.  The basement guy will be hurt, she's not happy with the family/basement situation and seems high maintenance.  Karla will be too nutty for Juan.  Eman will find her husband a little out there, as in mentally unstable.  I hope I'm wrong.....

Concur with each point.

"Mom's Basement" is ONLY the cliché about a LOSER!

Juan is gorgeous! And ambitious, so he will not be pleased at all when his New Age Go With The Flow wife quits her job (preview).

Same here. I think they are listed as 2 separate shows, but I forgot to record.

I was liking how well Madison and Allen were vibing until her chat with his friends. What a colossal ego she has! I've never seen a person on this show refer to herself as beautiful.at least not out loud to others. I mean, even if she truly believes that, you don't say it. That tiny thing turned me off. And, fwiw, I don't find her beautiful at all, but what I think doesn't matter. Allen is smitten.

Michelle was turned off that David still lives at home, but that's only temporary. I'd be more concerned about his smoking. Gross is right . This couple is doomed. I don't have much hope for the others, either.

When Juan busted out his guitar I was cringing so hard. That was SO bad. His ego is HUGE and I'm here for it!

Madison talking about how beautiful she is was also a Big Fat No. She and Allen are not a match but she is being gracious about it.

Tim and Camille? I don't know, but she seems sweet.

The other black couple isn't going to work. He's way too serious and she seems pretty wild. The yellow eyeshadow was really bad.

Michelle and David? He asks her if she drinks? I don't believe him when he says he doesn't crack open a beer at home. Nope. Not a match. I don't blame her for spinning out. Smoking is also a deal breaker.

This season is going to be good. I'm already offended by all of it!🤣

I didn’t get the After Party, but my sister in Florida got it right after the show.  My husband saw it on tv at one or two in the morning.  WTF.  I’m on Long Island.

I thought it was a snooze. I don’t remember learning anything we didn’t already know, except that KKP has a hard time pronouncing Iketchi’s name.

Poor Michelle. She waited 38 years to get married and ended up with a basement-dwelling smoker who looks like a genie.

To be fair, she wanted someone who looked like a genie. She didn’t say that in so many words, but that’s what she described.

I’m wondering if any of them were married before.  I think one of them mentioned this was his second marriage.

Ikechi was engaged before but not married. Tom had been in an 8 or 9 year relationship but wasn’t married. Michelle had been in a longer term relationship, not married and has been single for 6 years. I’m not sure about any of the others but I don’t remember any of them saying they’d been married before.

I think smoking should be a dealbreaker for the experts.  Same with wanting kids or not wanting kids.  I'm not sure his pink shorts going to bed helped change her mind at all either.  And I would perfer aguyw ith one good job over 2 jobs as then when would he have time for a relationship and kids.  He seems like a nice guy and he is physically what she asked for but she is not feeling it at all.  I think she wanted a light skinned, bun wearing businessman who lives in a highrise downtown.  Which is probably why she is still single.

I think $$ will be an issue for Emem and her husband.  Doubt he makes much as a school counselor and she seems like she's high maintenance.

Juan's song was horrific but she seemed all in.  Juan definitely seems to love Juan.  I think they consummate the marriage on their wedding night.

I think Madison seemed genuinely happy with Allen.  Was it Allen that said about the cameramen "can they please leave now"?

Tom & Camille-I think they are a good match physically and personality wise but I feel like something is off on her end.  Not sure if he isn't attracted to him or if it's  something else.  He seems like a great guy.

I cannot figure out who is going to swap.  I kind of think maybe Karla and David?

I’m really interested in the After Party.  I have Optimum tv.  You might also.  Maybe it’s on one of the Demand channels?

The flowers are to die for.  Maybe they were flown from somewhere?

Madison mentioned her 'beauty' more than once and then followed it up with how humble she was.  Nope, not going to last-too bad as I like Alan.

I think Michelle saw a few red flags with David.  Don't know if she'll be able to come back from that.  I did laugh though when she wore the most covered up pajamas possible-she is so not feeling it.

David look like Michael from Denver with that hair! I don’t see those two working

I don’t see them working either but not because of how he looks. He is exactly what she asked for physically. I just don’t think that she is going to get past him living in his parents’ basement and I think it’s more than just a geographical issue. I’m betting mom cooks for him and does his laundry and makes sure that he gets up and gets to work on time. That’s too much mommy-ing for a 36-year-old.

I loved the pink ones especially. I would have left out the feathers; the flowers were pretty enough on their own.

Plus, the first thing his friends/family said about him in the 'meet your fiance' script that the offient read was that he was a momma's boy.  That plus his living in the basement may be way too much of an indicator that there could be some red flags.

Me neither, and I've been wondering for a couple weeks. Anyone I can think mayyybe they'd cheat, I can't figure out who they'd cheat with that would also cheat with them. The previews also got me wondering if it actually ends up being more an emotional thing, or just texting, than actually physical.

Tom led his ex-girlfriend on for 9 years, cheated on her in the end and left because he "wasn't ready for marriage" and then he goes on this show?! The nerve 🥴😖.  This is why the show "Snapped" exists! Tom always looks like he's grimacing. Ikechi is entirely up his own ass about his letters to his wife book- we'll never see it on this season, but we will see it red-tagged on sale in a Walmart crate display.  The basement guy is all stocked up on his childhood snacks and his first big-boy bed smells like his cigarettes- what a catch!

Allen's wife feels like she's too attractive for him and doing him a favor- pink broccoli boxer briefs and a little undershirt cemented him into the friend zone. I hate watching this show, but I might stay to watch Allen drop kick a kitchen cabinet 😅.  Madison will make out with him since it's something to do, but she's not into him. You want your hot dream guy or girl? Go on the apps and find that person instead of trusting money hungry charlatans to line up your first divorce! 😏

Is that from the Preview, or is it a Spoiler?

The smoking mamas boy wears that unfortunate mop that reminds me of the weirdo that was on last season. The one who spent a lot of money on ugly clothes. This one is better looking but seems like a party boy to me. He needs to pull his hair back or get a nice haircut. Oh and move out of mommy’s and quit smoking. Crying in the bathroom is a bad sign.

I think with Eman and Ikechi, the show was hoping to recapture the magic of Woody and Amani but he’s not as charismatic as Woody.

The banana couple, that guy has a honker on him. I noticed when he was dancing. I don’t see her being that into him.  The bridesmaid with the double chin had a point about his childhood coming back to bite him.

Karla will start getting on Juan’s nerves soon. It should be funny. She was a good sport about his guitar and terrible singing.

The cheater probably didn’t need to announce it. He wasn’t married and it was a long time ago.

Michelle definitely has the ick with David, not sure she can get over that.  She seems wound up really tight, no surprise.  I too bet his mom does all his laundry, and I get the feeling he’s a slob.
I like Allen a lot (wife is a pretty girl, but the whole “I’m beautiful” humblebrag was a huge turnoff.) I like Tom too but I feel like he’s indecisive, or anxiety-filled, or something.  Can’t get a read on Camille as they haven’t shown much of her personality.
Karla and Juan are two exhausting high-maintenance people and it’s clear to me why they are both single.
It’s going to be a good season!
I didn’t get Afterparty recorded either, need to figure that out.

I looked ahead to next week since it wasn't on this week and there doesn't seem to be an after party listed.  So maybe there wasn't one this week. If there was, it was the first time EVER that it didn't record along with the show.

That curly pony guy is really into that hairdo, isn't he?  My 2 biggest turn-offs if I were his wife would be that he swears a lot for meeting new people for the first time, and the way he said multiple times that once he said her blonde hair he had no other qualms.

I find it hilarious that Karla's sister is completely unembarrassed to introduce herself to new people as "Beans".  Can you imagine if she were the one on the show?  "Juan, I'd like you to meet your wife, Beans.  Bean's family and friends say . . ." 😂

There was one last week. Ikechi, Camille, and David were on as guests. You didn't miss much, though - the only thing I can honestly remember was an unaired clip where David introduced himself to Michelle's family and mistook her sister for her mom. 😬

I think it is wonderful that Alan, more or less, got his dream girl but the couples on this show that start hot and heavy usually fizzle out just as fast.

Here's hoping it goes well for them.

I have hair similar to that guy's, and I would never wear it like that in a situation where my physical appearance mattered. I usually wear it that way after work, when I am cleaning my house.

I imagine meeting your bride for the first time at your wedding would make you want to look your best or at least put your best foot forward.

To be fair he did do something with it for the meeting/wedding, but then he busted out the old front ponytail for the reception 😂

His suit was also too tight but I understand they do not have the time to do proper tailoring before the MAFS wedding.

I honestly think the old boy did not try that hard because he knew how unlikely it was that this marriage would amount to anything.

I imagine when he saw his bride he thought, damn, I should have made that extra effort to look good because she did not look thrilled.

I know we are supposed to be talking about this current season, but since we didn't get a show this week, I have one more comment about Lindy. . .I just remember her saying that she wanted his medical benefits and she only worked part-time so she could travel, etc. She also was very clear that she did not want anyone to ask her to justify why she only worked the limited hours she did. As a physical therapist, I'm sure she could get many hours.  But, she did strike me as entitled and kind of lazy - getting by on her extraordinary good looks. (She was cute, but that's about it.)

And I bet a couple of dollars its not just tobacco he is puffing. Did he share that tidbit with the so called experts? Its intellectual suicide to match a smoker with a non-smoker. I guess they wanted to make sure there was drama.

That was a big deal last season too though I don’t think we saw much of it. I can’t remember their names but the guy who seemed like he was always stoned probably was always stoned - he smoked and hid it from his wife, who didn’t want him to smoke in the apartment. She was the one with the blond hair who had just had surgery before the weddings? Anyway, evidently their issue wasn’t as much the smoking as it was his dishonesty about the smoking but still… that tends to be pretty much a deal breaker of an issue.

Didn't he mention that he was vaping?

He said he was going to transition to vaping with the goal of eventually quitting nicotine altogether.

Which basically exposed his lie of being a social smoker only. If he really only did it that infrequently, it shouldn't require that extensive of a process to just give it up.

I never knew someone who only light up socially. Aren't smokers thought of as pariahs? Back when I smoked it was still a popular habit. I don't know anyone who lets you smoke inside a house or apartment.

Anyway what a terrible match. What made anyone think this guy is ready for marriage?

Karla is wacky. In their first conversation after the ceremony she asks Juan whether he’s in love, and as soon as she meets his parents she tells them she’s in love already. She’s a lot personality-wise. But I guess he’s a lot, too, with his fake crying before the ceremony as if he’s the only immigrant in America. Karla said what was seemingly a “joke” after the ceremony that she’s an alien from another planet. Now she’s doubling down on her epiphany that they’re all light beings who came to earth. Isn’t that Scientology? But this is like her own thing. Ooh, boy. Meanwhile poor Juan is just trying to network at the airport. What do we think his app is called? I’m going with FlyHi.

Poor Michelle. She ends up with “the genie from Aladdin” (as she thought he looked like) who, at age 36, still lives with his parents! Yikes!! And to show how much David defers to parents, he was tripping over himself to pay his respects to Michelle’s parents before even introducing himself to her. She must be thinking I’m either going to always have to put his mother first or end up acting like his mother. Run, girl! Later, David unleashed his bang ponytail! Why does he wear that side pony so forward?!? Anywhere back of center of the head would be better! Sir, you already have to overcome living with your parents. This is not helping your case!

Camille and Thomas. I can’t tell whether she’s just shy or has no interest in him. She’s not even looking at him as they’re dancing and talking. He’s going on and on and she’s just giving some “um-hmms” and “yeahs” while looking over his shoulder. Thomas made the fatal mistake of telling Michelle’s friends that he cheated on his ex before telling her! Now she’s going to find out from her friends and not trust him vs if he brought it up to her during intimate conversations during the honeymoon. Ok, I was wrong. She seems to like him and thinks he’s shown growth, so I guess she was just shy.

Ikechi and Emem seem to have this whole high-achieving, god’s plan type of outlooks going on, so I could see them being a match. Um, these two did not get equal screen time. I have nothing else to say. Maybe that’s a good sign that they didn’t really have any drama other than Emem’s cousin questioning why he hasn’t committed to someone sooner.

Madison and Allen. I would have thought she’d think she’s way out of his league. But even though HE realizes it, she seems to be immediately smitten with him, too. I guess they got the same “dad joke” humor going on. They seem like they’re trying too hard to be two wild and crazy guys, but okay, Godspeed, you two. Though, once they sat down with each other’s friends, they revealed deeper sides of themselves that the other hasn’t seen yet, so I think it’s a good sign. They seem to have the most immediate chemistry as well as you could see getting along as friends, so so far I have the highest hopes for these two working out.
