Grundoon59 November 25 Share November 25 I am with @Good Queen Jane in terms of score and cold suffering but not in terms of the wonderful treatment (your remedy sounds much better than my OTC preparations). 5/5 with 1* - more than a couple were lucky guesses. In terms of obvious news - don't get this cold that is going around if you can help it. My cough is ridiculous (think sounding like a victim of consumption). I actually went to urgent care yesterday to make sure it was nothing worse. Good news, it isn't. Bad news, the doctor said this delight was hanging around and taking people weeks to recover from. 12 1 Link to comment

Trey November 25 Share November 25 @Grundoon59, I gave you Fire for your 5/5 + 1* but I would also like to send hugs to you for your awful cold. My cold is also hanging around and sounding like consumption. I guess it will eventually go away. I am having chicken soup for lunch to help it on its way. We need to be able to do two emojis at once to make our response more precise, like Fire/Hugs, LOL/sad, etc. 6 minutes ago, Clanstarling said: Because I can't use more than one emoticon per post - what an achievement while you and @Good Queen Jane are both down with nasty colds! Browncoat November 25 Share November 25 My cold must have been a different variety. It was only really nasty for about a day, although I was still a little congested for a couple more days after the horrible day. I'd say it was maybe four days total from the time I started feeling icky until I felt well. But that one nasty day was exceptionally nasty. (I'm sitting in the airport in Charlotte, waiting for my flight to Dallas.) 6 2 Link to comment

possibilities November 26 Share November 26 Apparently there's a whooping cough (pertussis) outbreak. I don't know if it's everywhere, or just local to here. I read about it in the local newspaper, They were begging people to get vaccinated for it-- apparently it's one of the ones you're supposed to get every 10 years, and most people don't know that. Ginger tea with honey and all the sympathy you can use! We should probably go to the small talk thread if we're going to continue talking ailments.... 3 2 Link to comment

I read about it in the local newspaper, They were begging people to get vaccinated for it-- apparently it's one of the ones you're supposed to get every 10 years, and most people don't know that. it's the TDAP vaccine. Since '92, I've been getting one every 10 years, but I missed 2022 because Medicare wouldn't pay for it if I got it at the pharmacy when I was also getting my Covid booster. They wouldn't pay for it at the doc's office, either. I never got around to going to the Doc-in-a-Box, where they would pay for it. Apparently now, with the pertussis outbreak, they will pay for it at the pharmacy, so I got it last month, along with another Covid booster and the RSV vax. The nice dude giving me the vaccines said I wasn't getting too many at once - we give babies a lot more at one time. Oddly, my immune system over-reacts to flu shots. Even though it's a killed virus, my body thinks it's gotten the flu and acts like it. I'm down for at least 2 weeks til I get over it. So it's a guarantee I'm going to get sick. I take my chances that I won't get flu if I'm gonna get sick trying to prevent it. The doc agrees with me and doesn't push me to get a flu shot, since I get practically every other shot - I've gotten both pneumonia vaccines, a Hep B, two shingles vax, and a tuberculosis vaccine (that one was required by the hospital when I was doing volunteer work there. The HepB was required by the dentist office where I worked.) And, of course, ALL the Covid boosters. 6 Link to comment

From what I can observe since the latest regime change, a mod will only step in if someone complains. And since this whole thread is a user-defined topic, I can't imagine that anyone would complain unless things went wildly off the tracks (personal attacks or such) or broke the forum guidelines about spoilers. I'm not sure if the OP (I assume @Clanstarling?) can still change the title to add something like "...and related small talk" but I'm not even sure that's necessary. Seems like posters on this thread are a self-selected crowd. Also my knees hurt when I try to stand up. 2 1 4 Link to comment

I don't think I have the right to change the name of any forum except the FJ Contest - that's the only one I "authored". The friendliness of this forum is what attracted me to it. I'd been on others that I withdrew from because a number of posters were toxic. Anyway, it was good of @possibilities to make the suggestion to avoid us being scolded by a mod. 30 Helens November 29 Share November 29 Maybe we should start a Jeopardy:Ailments thread. If for no other reason than to confuse people who stumble across it. (And maybe stub a toe in the process? ONE OF US!) But I will say, in the spirit of friendly advice, get all the vaccines you can. Not to get all political about it, but there’s a decent chance that free/affordable immunizations may be harder to come by in the near future. Stock up your immune systems while you can. 8 2 1 Link to comment

Last night's pre-emption was completely ridiculous as J! was bumped for a local broadcast called Holiday Gift Guide that was basically a 30 minute advertisement for Christmas presents. What made it twice as annoying was that Wheel of Fortune did run in its regular time slot. OK, rant over.
