I’m only a few eps in but I just don’t get it. They don’t get paid really, are worked to death and are literally risking their health. The fact that the DCC mavens know doing something like the jump splits are literally causing physical damage to these women but won’t change it because it “looks impressive” tells me all I need to know about them despite all their “I just love you girls so much” is utter bull crap. The one woman who said she had to have ten orthopedic surgeries tells me this is just a gussied up cult.

ASDCC focused on jump split injuries much more than DCCMTT ever did.  We knew the newbies were scared the first time, but we didn't know about the magnitude of injuries and lingering hip pain.  I wonder if Judy could come up with another "wow" ending that's less taxing on the women's bodies.

And did anybody else want more Evan?  I love him, but he came and went so fast, he was barely noticeable.

I really enjoyed the series.  I adored Charly!  She appeared to be an amazing dancer (didn't someone say, "is this another Clare?" about her?) but also just very mature, likeable and down to earth.  So I'm still unclear, what was the reason they cut her??  What did I miss?

I can see why people had a hard time stomaching Reese.  But what doesn't jive is that she seemed to be completely accepted and liked by the other girls.  That tells me there's probably more to who she is and she is probably just a genuinely happy, sweet person.  The fiance situation though.....hmmmmm.  Poor guy was certainly not facially gifted and didn't seem to have much going on in the way of a career path.  But I'm sure he was nice enough?  I hate to see her close down her options before she's really gotten out in the world, and certainly with the opportunity she has ahead of her to meet a lot of new people.  But I think like she said, she wasn't interested in dating.  She wanted her first boyfriend to be "the one".  By the end, he almost seemed to have become like a fan too, which had a weird feeling to it.

The Victoria issue is a hard one to dissect.  I understood early on some of the negativity directed at her but I was one who was never bothered by her.  I'm just feeling there has to be a TON more to this story.  If she is "the most popular girl" in every other facet of her life, what has happened within the squad?  There were so many rumors of her being a tattle-tale and the issue with the cell phone case early on.  There has to be a reason things are this way.  I fear she and Tina are going to turn into Grey Gardens.  She may keep Victoria under her thumb for life.  From the old footage right up to today, Tina looks like one of those women who has to be the center of attention anywhere she goes.  Exhausting.

Ugh - I had wiped Kat from my brain.  I had to stop watching during her season because I could not tolerate her.  Not sure why they chose to focus on her out of all of the impactful dancers there are to choose from.

Her boyfriend seems nice but when Kelli said she was surprised when she met him, let's be honest I think looks wise she was surprised about him.

Yeah, when they showed the clip of him being the ultimate Alabama fan with his tongue out, and all... that, I was like "girl, NO!!!" He seemed nice, but I was like Reese! You don't have to marry the first guy you're with. Jesus. I think she genuinely loves cheerleading and will fully drink the Kool-Aid as far as DCC goes. I did enjoy her friendship with Charly.

I am kind of getting a weird religious kind of thing with Reese and maybe her fiancee was arranged or picked? I know a really nice young woman who had an arranged marriage by their families and she knows no other life.  I am not going to mention the religion because I know there are off-shoots and more cultish versions. At least Reese seems to have been able to spend some time alone with her guy. Another guy I know has just gone on family dates with the girl he is "dating."  Unfortunately, in his case that would be the only way he could get a date.

Former avid watcher of MTT but I've admittedly missed the last few years. I think I last watched was the one where Victoria was cut and constantly told she was too fat.

I like the new format in that we get to the hear the real music but agree that there could have been way more actual dancing. Disappointing that too often while they were rehearsing, the camera would cut away and focus on Kelli or Judy. Give us a split screen so I can at see what they're reacting to.

I really like Kelly V and Ari, so were sad to see them cut. I also thought it was extremely bad optics to cut two of the WOC rookies so early and on the same night.

Things I missed from MTT: the outrageousness of Kitty Carter, watching them stumble over Dallas Cowboys trivia, show team tryouts.

Also realized that like on competitive singing shows, I like what I like and so often disagree with the judges on who is cut. The only time it makes sense to me is when their kicks aren't high enough.

I don’t really share the negativity toward Will. Yes, somewhat surprised when first seeing him on tv (followed by “whatever”, I’m no longer trying to understand the mysteries of love).

They seem to share the same interests and seem genuinely happy. They’ve both said they hung out 15-20 times before he first put an arm around her. That tells me he’s a pretty decent guy, who was willing to give it time.

Reese seems pretty immature and naive, most likely the result of a very religious and conservative upbringing. I bet she’ll be pregnant the year after she resigns and be very happy leading a fairly conservative life of a stay af home mom with 4 kids or so.

Will's not what any of us expected but they do seem happy together. The only thing I found odd was that with a degree from Alabama the job he found was  selling parts for pressure washers? That's not going to support a trad wife lifestyle.

Interestingly, learned that Ari's ex is Kendall from Love Island USA. He supposedly ended things to go on the show.

Lots of focus on Caroline. I don't remember her background, but curious why no talk of a career or job. Thinking she should focus on her own future rather than spend all that time around DCC and her sister.

True, though I must say I was very pleased to finally see them dance to Thunderstruck. I hated the music they were forced to edit in. It never looked right.

Thunderstruck is a very expensive song. Varsity Blues paid $500K 25 years ago to use a few seconds of the song in that movie. I can't imagine what Netflix had to pay.

As much as I despise Charlotte and the entire Jones family, Tina Kalina and the rest of the Kalina family are the real villains here. I about choked when Tina Kalina was defending the poverty wages the DCC receive. Your own daughter is being taken advantage of and you, a woman who has been underpaid your entire like should know better. Her father and brothers never attending one dance recital was sad. What a terrible man her father is and her brothers aren't much better.

^ it's on his linkedin profile. He's a bachelors in finance/marketing. Dallas is an extremely hot job market. It appears he never worked prior to graduating college nor did he have any internships, which is very odd for a finance/marketing major. Wondering if his GPA was bad or if he quotes bible verses for every interview answer.

Reece's degree is in dance. https://www.linkedin.com/in/reece-weaver-697a93191/ What exactly does one do with that? Teach?

A word of caution here: We don’t know what happened here and why dad and the boys walked out on Victoria and her mom. Kids do not simply walk away from a parent or other sibling. There’s always two sides to a coin.

I don’t have any inside knowledge on this either, but it wouldn’t surprise me if TK’s boisterous, rude presence (she can’t have been easy to live with) and a total focus on her own mini-me, has taken its toll on the family as a whole. the ignored sibling often grows to resent the other and the parent involved.

And there is another, quite simple explanation for this: kids choosing sides when parents split up. Wrong? Absolutely! But divorces are notorious for ripping entire families apart!

Hasn't she been dancing from birth though? Also, she had posted with one of her brothers. I just think they don't care and she's unsupported.

The language she used was so telling, too. She said something like, these millennials think of this as a "job" but we thought of it as a "privilege." But, even back then, you had to be privileged enough to spend that much time working for little money. I noticed that on one of the many, many vintage clips of TK, her hobbies were listed as golf, racketball and tennis--basically, country club sports (yes, I know there are public golf and tennis courts, but my point is that TK seemed to have had plenty of recreational time on her hands and could afford a limited-paying job like DCC). The Cowboys & Jones family still would make plenty if they paid these women better for their time and talents. I think the Jones family also can be villains here. Equal opportunity!

My cousin had two sons for years who, based on what she posted on social media, she absolutely adored and doted on. Then when her second son was about eight years old she had a daughter. Immediately her social media posts were all about the daughter. She spent thousands throwing her daughter princess themed birthday parties. Her sons virtually vanished from her posts and photos. Apparently she'd always wanted a daughter and when she got one she became her primary focus.

So I could imagine TK spending 90% of her time and putting 90% of her focus on Victoria. Her boys weren't going to be Cowboys cheerleaders.

I actually think Victoria stretched the truth when saying her brothers and dad never came to anything.  I use to follow her old account and her brothers and dad have been at Meet the Team and at games.  Even on Victoria's new instagram page there is a picture of her brothers there with her sister in law.  TK (her mom) even has family photos posted on facebook with the whole family being at Meet the Team and games.

When you have multiple kids usually parents have to divide and conquer.  Meaning mom might being running one kid somewhere and dad is running the other kids somewhere.  As of 2023 they still had family photos together so I don't know that they are divorced like some have said in here.  Looking back through photos on different accounts it looks like the boys were involved in multiple sports and Victoria danced.  It would be hard to be at all of those.  Her brothers are also older, one brother got married in 2021 or 2022 and lives out of state.  Both brothers left the state after high school (I'm pretty sure) so that would be why they weren't at every cowboy game.  However, Victoria did not tell the truth when she said they have never been to any of her dance things.

Her mom seems to have made her whole life about Victoria and pushing her agenda on her.  Victoria also allows it.  I've followed the DCC Making the Team since it started.  Victoria got away with so much those first couple of years due to the relationship with Kelli and Judy.  I thought Kelli and Judy handled it very well and they were constantly asking if Victoria was okay and saying you have enough  outside pressure.  I think they were talking about pressure from mom.  Yes, being a DCC has a lot of pressure and expectations but you know that going into it.  Especially if you have been there 4 years.  Personally, I think VK was embarrassed after the first few seasons so this time she was going to make up for it and have a sad story line.  It's just telling when her mom is saying your 50% is other peoples 100%.  She has been told her whole life she is perfect and better than everyone else.  I have a similar experience with another parent like that.  The kid is told she makes no mistakes and is perfect which also causes this kid to have anxiety.  It's crazy.  Kelli and Judy even said where are these goals coming from, they had multiple talks during the season.  We see a very small portion, but they seemed over it because it looks like it was for the cameras.  Even at Kelsey's engagement, VK kept looking at the camera before talking.  It just seems like she was very aware of what to do when the cameras were running.

Haven't read all the posts as I don't want to be spoiled. I'm on E3. But I was surprised when Kelli said the uniforms now are the same size as years ago. I thought I had seen pictures of previous DCCs and the shorts looked longer and not as skimpy. Were they really that small in the 70s and 80s?

Kelly has said several times the uniform has never changed, and held those old shorts as proof.  But I just don't buy it either.  When you look at old pictures, they just look so obviously different.  So I don't know for sure, but I ain't buying it.

I do not believe they are divorced.

One brother is super religious and is married. He is trying to get his own social media stuff going regarding religion.

The other brother is younger than Victoria. He recently tagged her in a social media post so they aren't estranged by any means. I think they are both two young people doing their own things.

Both brothers were seriously into baseball growing up and had scholarships. Like Texasgirl said, you likely had to divide and conquer.

If anything, these 3 kids interests were heavily supported while they were growing up. I can see what Victoria meant, she felt like an outsider in her own family because she was the only child into dance and DCC. That schedule alone must of been her entire life, and in a way, isolating from her siblings.

This. Victoria talks about this in the podcast I linked above, how her parents literally had to divide and conquer. The podcast host even mentioned that Netflix presented it very differently, and made it seem as if her dad and brothers were not in the picture. She explained it a lot and spoke of her brothers.

Victoria is still a pick me. I have a few thoughts on her performance.

I think Netflix purposely showed her in a more sympathetic light to make it seem she had it harder than originally thought. She was so coddled and got away with things others wouldn’t have during her seasons as a rookie candidate (which I’m sure carried over into her DCC years).  I’m sure the other girls took notice.  I mean could you imagine ANY of the other girls ignoring a valued alumni’s call to help her? Or crying in the office about not making show group the first year she tried out? No way Kelli would let that happen, but Victoria got away with it.

Also, in previous forums it was said she would tell her mom or would tell Kelli what the girls were saying and doing which was why she had no friends on the team, other than the alumni. If that was true I fully understand why the other girls didn’t really rock with her.

Just seems to me that, once again, she was given it easy in order to make her the star of the show.

I find it interesting that VK says she wants to find herself away from DCC, but instead that is what she continues to identify with, ride the gravy train so to speak.   Goes around wearing mostly DCC logos and dancing on the street, while mom films.    Both are obsessed with being center of attention check  the Youtube channel.  Also found it interesting that VK is teaching DCc routines in NYC as her choreography

Are her parents divorced.  I get the impression they are still married and all live in the same home the boys just decided they wouldn't go to the dancing events.

Wow Kelsey and several other DCC are commenting in that thread saying that they would have loved to attend her birthday party if they had been invited. It's like Victoria wanted to create this narrative for herself but she had to sort of throw her teammates and the organization under the bus to do so.

The pile on is a bit tacky, even if deserved. It will only make her feel more attacked and isolated - someone that clearly is already really struggling. Even if that podcast struck a nerve - it seems like one or two comments would suffice.

Some of these more senior vets, like Kelcey, would understand that TV narrative is often so skewed from reality. I thought the bday party was staged by producers to appear lonely. I guess not fully? And maybe they were invited last minute, but didn't get it? Seems like Victoria's communication, or lack thereof, if anything, was constantly misunderstood. I don't think she was a master manipulator trying to not have friends, but I could see how once she ran into difficulty she got stuck in that loop in her head.

The problem is these girls are getting piled on, on social media by VK-stans for being mean to Vic. I'm not at all surprised they're starting to defend themselves publicly.

Eh - it still reflects poorly on them, IMO. It looks like a cultish sorority girl pile on.
Victoria never attacked her teammates on the podcast, her fault lies in that she didn't try to control the narrative post show. I don't think she has that kind of power, frankly. The Netflix audience will all draw their own conclusions no matter what.

DCC vets are pissed VK-stans are attacking them and the presumed narrative spun by producers, it is still probably not the best way to handle it with saccharine sweet backhanded comments at VK on tik tok. It is not a good look. It really just continues the mean girl stuff.

I see both sides with the Vets commenting on that TikTok saying they'd have been there for her party. VK sure makes it sound on the podcast like she told them, even last minute. She does also admit maybe she didn't share the info well, but between that comment and her comment about Kelli and Judy kind of tarnishing the way others see her, she doesn't seem to speak of her former teammates in a positive manner. She's also making sure to repost to her Insta stories many "supportive" stories from fans/supporters that indicate she was wronged and that's got to be rough for any teammate that feels like they supported her. I also know that sometimes we cling hard to our own truth, regardless of how others see it.

Messy! I can understand some saying DCC posts on that thread isn't a great look for them. But, I don't think those particular cheerleaders would have posted comments if they had known about the party details. I always took Jessica to be a very supportive and kind teammate, but what do I know. I don't think their comments are on the orders of Kelli, like some thread commenters suggested, because it's all former DCC and she can't tell them what to do in the same way she could control the social media lockdowns of current cheerleaders and TCCs. I feel badly for VK even as I agree that she contributes to her difficulties with DCC.

Cosmopolitan posted that the Netflix doc makers said they'd be into doing a second season, so I'm hoping it happens!

It really begs the question, what did they tell Ariana in 2022? I wanna know! She came back, so it was probably somewhat encouraging, a big mistake on K&J because her height issue was not going to go away. Maybe they were betting that some of the tall girls in the kickline would retire by 2023? I don't know. I am sure there have been years when they had mostly short dancers.

Also, just my take, I don't feel like the Ari cut was the first time she had been called into the office that training camp on AS. She seemed to instantly know and said very little beyond, "I think God has another plan for me." I think if it was her first time in the office that season she may have seemed more surprised and had more questions.

I didn’t understand why they cut her. Also didn’t like they didn’t show the follow-up with her after she left the office. If there is a height requirement, then they need to say so at the beginning. How tall is she anyway? She is beautiful and a great dancer.

The emotional, intense reactions women have as part of this team or when they are not part of it are unsettling to me. I realize the pressure and scrutiny they are under, but there is a cultish feel to the whole thing. Victoria is probably not the only one struggling with an eating disorder and feelings of  insecurity.

100 percent. I just watched the season of MTT when Victoria made the squad and her dad was there at the Meet the Team night and was even interviewed and talked about how proud they were of her!

OK, my mouth was hanging open multiple times during the podcast. Right after the part where she says no one came to her birthday after being invited, the host asks her about who Netflix selected the DCC and TCC who'd get main story lines. VK said she didn't pay any attention to that or to who was miced up when or how often--but that totally goes against the Reddit account about TK flipping out on Armani because Armani took up too much mic and camera time. I do believe that story, and I just feel like VK is doing way too much to spin her story to be her as the victim and just an innocent that fans are drawn to and others get jealous. And, she said the Netflix producer is now like her "brother" and he will always have her back, so I guess I have some idea why TK showing her dance-mom ass with Armani and Chandi story didn't make the documentary. And oh, wow, now she's saying she thinks it's "wild" that the crew picked up on how she was kind of an outcast but no one in the organization had noticed for her 4 years there. There's either a massive lack of self-awareness or she's actively trying to mold this story her way, maybe a mix of both. And now I'm on the floor because VK she said her mom was "the perfect dance mom" and they want to start some kind of good dance mom show. Ew.

Interesting that neither VK nor TK have talked to Kelli since the show aired.

Hearing her talk about how serious her depression was shocked me, though. I hope her break from DCC and move to NYC help her find her way and be healthy and genuinely happier.
