And getting back to Justine Bateman - was she always like this?  She seems to be channelling her inner Megan McCain and that doesn't even work for Megan McCain.  Is she hoping for her own show where she can be the next Joe Rogan?

I looked up what she is doing now and apparently regularly appears on Fox News and was on last week to talk about the fires.

Roseanne Barr has just released a new 'video' in which she deliberately crudely  trashes African-Americans for not . .. agreeing with her about . . .something. If one thought she couldn't have possibly sung worse than her infamous attempt at the US National Anthem. . this proves that there's no such thing as 'too far' for her!

She continues to insist she’s not racist, then puts her fake blond hair in cornrows.

Is that hair style exclusive to the AA community? If so, someone needs to tell Hollywood and Bo Derek.

There was a lot of cultural push back when the movie 10 came out and the general public started to name the hair style for Bo Derek since many had no ideal of its Pan African roots and uses by Black actress in film and TV before Bo.

Nobody is accepting Rosanne aa if she was  doing an homage  but rather thinking she is using it for insulting the wearers of the style, who are mostly Black for humor.

Two things:

One is that it seemed evident to me that Miss Barr wore the cornrow [wig?] to go along with that video that went out of its way to deliberately insult African-Americans for derision (and not remotely 'humor'- unless one chooses the most mean-spirited derivation for one's definition) as opposed to in any way try to jar anyone's memory of Mrs. Derek (though now married to John Corbett).

Secondly, IMO via her tude, Miss Barr has been a complete ZERO  for some time as opposed to anything resembling a '10' -unless possibly on a scale  of one to a trillion!

People ought to remember that she didn’t get fired over that one nasty tweet: it was simply the final straw after she ignored all the warnings ABC had warned her to stop trolling people.

It always makes me smile a little when I remember how she and her apologists figured the  reboot would tank when she was fired.  Still on the air today, Roseanne.

I don't know anything about child support but wouldn't there be something temporary in place?

Depending on how far along the process is, not necessarily.  Exes can have private agreements about child support, but the state does not order anything without a hearing or an agreement placed on the record, and if they haven't gotten that far, he can't be in arrears.

He can still be in arrears.   In MD, even if there is no order or agreement, you are still supposed to support your kids.   So when they do calculate child support, it goes back to the date of filing the original request.   And you owe all that money if you haven't paid anything for the kids support in that time.   Some states allow 2 years of retroactivity.   Even if there isn't a court order, pay something so you don't get hit with owing thousands of dollars (not payable all at once but a repayment amount is stuck on TOP of the ordered amount until paid off).

For anyone else who lives under a rock and didn't know what he'd done this time:  Kanye West’s X Account Deactivated After He Declared “IM A NAZI” In Deluge Of Antisemitism (via Deadline)

Quote

Kanye West‘s Twitter/X account has been deactivated after critics have decried his “antisemitic rampage” on Elon Musk‘s social media platform.

On Monday morning, West’s page was replaced with the message: “This account doesn’t exist.” It is not clear if West deleted the account himself or if he was removed from the social media network.

Quote

The latest deactivation comes after West — known as Ye — posted a series of antisemitic posts, including declaring himself to be a Nazi. The comments prompted an outpouring of condemnation from critics including David Schwimmer and Piers Morgan.

“IM A NAZI,” he wrote over the weekend. “I LOVE HITLER NOW WHAT BITCHES.” In another all-caps missive, he added: “SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE JEWISH AND I DONT TRUST ANY OF THEM.”

Schwimmer said: “We can’t stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate filled, ignorant bile… but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk. Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X. That’s twice as many people than the number of Jews in existence. His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews.

“I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that he identifies as a Nazi (which implies he wants to exterminate ALL marginalized communities including his own) or the fact that there is not sufficient OUTRAGE to remove and ban him from all social media at this point. Silence is complicity.”

The American Jewish Committee condemned West for continuing to “purposefully use his platform to spew anti-Jewish hatred,” while the Campaign Against Antisemitism described it as an “antisemitic rampage.”

Morgan said: “So disappointed that Kanye West has deleted his X account… said nobody. From genius rap superstar to demented, vile, racist, anti-Semitic, misogynist, violence-inducing troll. What a sad, pathetic downfall.”

As if Musk isn't cheering him on, and Piers Morgan has serious nerve calling someone else racist and misogynist (takes one to know one?).

And this: Kanye West Super Bowl Ad Promotes Website Selling Swastika T-Shirts (also via Deadline)

Quote

Extending his noxious return to public life, Kanye West appeared in a Super Bowl ad on local TV stations Sunday night to promote a website selling swastika T-shirts.

The bizarrely un-cinematic spot, shot in a vertical format with an iPhone, featured West (who calls himself Ye) reclining in a dentist’s chair. “I spent, like, all the money for the commercial on these new teeth,” he explains. “Um … um … um … go to Yeezy.com.”

Visitors on Monday to Yeezy.com, which sells merchandize for West’s fashion brand, could buy only one product: a white T-shirt emblazoned with a large black swastika at a price of $20.

Quote

At the time the ad ran during the game, the source noted to Deadline, Yeezy.com was not featuring the swastika T-shirt. Shopify, which provides e-commerce services for Yeezy, last year did away with its policy banning “hateful content” in stores using its platform.

The ad coincided with the deactivation of West’s account on X, formerly Twitter, after he declared himself to be a Nazi. “I’m logging out of Twitter,” he wrote in a farewell post. “I appreciate Elon for allowing me to vent. It has been very cathartic to use the world as a sounding board.”

Fuck you, John Lithgow. Seriously, I want you to suffer the way you're enabling other people to inflict suffering.

He's going to be in the upcoming Harry Potter series. Everyone involved is permanently on my list of loathsome individuals who deserve to be hit by cars or worse.

Please tell me that John Lithgow didn't actually do or say anything horrible and you're referring to him putting money in that person's pocket...  Which I totally understand how you feel about that - I hate her too.  I'm not happy about it either, but he's such a wonderful person, I'd be heartbroken if he'd done something outright awful.

I'm not trying to downplay this, honestly, but I'm just wondering.

He's in the new HP show, thus promoting Rowling and further spreading her ideology.

Mark Harris’ Blusky had a pretty post on this that I think sums up my feelings:

Quote

I don't have the heart or energy to hate an actor who takes a gig that puts money in the pocket of someone awful. You might be horrified to know how long that list is, and I have maybe eight or ten thousand other people to deal with first. But...I wish he wouldn't.

I’m not trying to downplay it either, I’m just saying I’ve got so much hate for a lot of people these days, so like Mark, I’m trying to prioritize.

‘Cancel culture’ is beginning to have a vengeful, narcissistic feel to it, in light of some recent escalation.  Also Rowling’s friends don’t need a martyr. I likely won’t watch the show, I’m over HP, but I feel it isn’t going to hurt for people to make it, if they want. It is not a horrible story, really.

The Harry Potter books got my dyslexic son to read, to love reading.  I also will always have fond memories of lining up in bookstores with my daughter and my late sister and her daughters awaiting the newest release.  I know Rowling is a problem, I don't  agree with her, but I will never let what she is take those memories away from me.  If others have positive feelings about Harry Potter that doesn't make them supportive of Rowling and it doesn't make them terrible people.

Yeah, I see that. But I'm just saying my part. There are so many terrible people, it's hard to keep up. But right now, he's the one that's most fresh.

Yeah, I bought the books too. Indirectly, HP was an influence on my own writing. Just a couple of pics that sort of spurred ideas. There's nothing wrong with happy memories, the problem is giving Rowling any attention/money going forward. I'm very much in the no category.

Whatever happens, I do NOT want people harassing the kids that get cast over this or sending the, death threats. But knowing how the internet is, it’s probably inevitable.

It’s worth remembering that Lithgow got acclaim for playing a trans person in The World According to Garp. Maybe I’m being naive, but for all we know he’ll donate his paycheck to transgender foundations.

I have enough sense not to harass the kids. Their parents, though, should know better. So should Lithgow. No matter how much money he donates, it won't be enough for enabling hate speech.

John Lithgow has always been okay by me, and I can't begrudge him his right to work. Now, if he got on his soapbox and started blathering about poor Joann being the victim of "cancel culture" and the "woke mob" and blah, blah, blah... yeah, I'd probably look at him with a very jaundiced eye from that point on.

There are only so many people I can cancel out of my life. A ton of actors I like or even love have worked with either Polanski or Allen or both. Sad, but true.

So you expect people to stop working & earning money because someone who wrote a make-believe story has views you don't agree with? I think JKRs views are abhorrent but she's just another in a long line of bigots & I'm not going to expect people to stop watching HP or acting in it because of what she thinks or says, it doesn't mean they have the same views.

I would absolutely adore it if he did that. Not just because it's a nice thing to do... but because it would piss Joann off so, so, soooooo much.

The Lithgow thing brings up a real dilemma. While I think Rowling is an idiot, her books have brought a lot of people a lot of joy. And Lithgow is an actor who just wants to work, and Harry Potter is a well-respected franchise.

In the past few years, Lithgow has popped up on Colbert's show, doing a hilarious Rudy Ghouliani impression (most memorable for the line, when Ghouliani was making inadvertent 'calls' by sitting on his phone, "My butt is a constant source of leaks!"). His politics seem to be in the right place.

He appears to be a decent guy who took a nice role in a successful franchise. Not going to judge him too harshly for that. These days, one must pick one's battles carefully, lest one be driven exhausted and crazy.

I just did a quick look at John's filmography, and it really looks like he has a hard time saying no to a project. The man appears to be willing to act in just about anything. I do have to wonder if this is because being a working actor is tough and you take the roles you are offered to keep the SAG health insurance.

Honestly, I think Lithgow would be a great Dumbledore. The right mix of austere and quirky.

As for supporting JKR's views by taking the role, I disagree. If, as someone stated above, he was outright saying things in support of her or her views, then yeah, he's awful, but he hasn't. It's almost certain he would take the role because it's a good paycheck for an interesting role, and I don't begrudge him that. He might not even know of JKR's views. I have to remember sometime not everyone is chronically online as I am, and don't keep up with pop-culture news like I do. Also; HP is so much more then JKR now, and I don't begrudge people for still choosing to interact with the franchise. People are fans of HP rather then her. And honestly, JKR's so rich now, no amount of boycott/stepping away from her works will affect her, so, unless she's saying proceeds she gets from a project are going to a hate group or the work itself is harmful, why not allow people to still enjoy a franchise important to them.

AFAIK, Rowling is in favor of every adult who wants to change their gender to be able to do it. She has her own opinions on the matter which are hers to express.

And if those opinions get people hurt? Am I allowed to make up baseless and harmful claims about people with the initials MS?

I doubt Lithgow is struggling to make ends meet. The fact that he is choosing to do this project, at this point in time, does say something about him and what he thinks is important. I think anyone that willingly works for her - I mean that has the financial means to make an actual choice- is trash. Jmo.

But he's not the first, nor the last to work with her or socialize with her.

Honestly, I expect the list of people who have paid lip service to supporting various marginalized groups who will drop it when it becomes too inconvenient to keep up will grow. This is just a general comment, not specific to Lithgow. I have no idea what kinds of things he supports. It's just something I expect to see.more and more of.

Whether people watch or not, eh I won't but I expect in the current climate it will be successful. Or at least it won't fail bc people care that she is a terrible human being

Her opinions are hers to express and others a free to express their opinion that she is a transphobe.

She says that she is fine with trans individuals being free to make their own choices but she also bullied an Olympic boxer she thought looked too masculine to be a cis woman and she lost her shit over the phrase “people who menstruate”. So, whatever lip service she pays to not being a transphobe rings really hollow to me.
