Way to go, Frederick!!!  At his age, he may have lots of room for improvement too.

Did all the US women get to compete in the finals or was one left out.  In which case, why?  It seems kind of cold to be on a team and not get to compete (except for the injury, which was awful and I feel bad for Jocelyn).

The original plan was for Wong to do beam and Roberson to do vault and floor.  So Wong ended up adding vault and floor and, ironically, faltering on beam.  Biles and Jones did all four, and Blakey did bars.

She got the silver in Vault because she had too much power on Biles II and sat down on the landing. Even though the vault is head and shoulders above anything anyone is attempting, the sit down, paired with a deduction for her coach being on the mat, gave Andrade the gold.

If you're going to attempt a vault as dangerous as the Biles II, having a coach spotting you closely seems like a necessary safety precaution. Instead, she got a deduction. Whatever.

Pretty sure she was given the deduction at Nationals. Hopefully, the PTB will remove the deduction in upcoming years. They have coaches standing close by during bar routines. How is this any different?

It could be that the coach on the vault ends up blocking the judges view of the landings.  Whereas most of the bar elements are in the air, so they're not blocking the judges view.

Thanks to Xfinity being crappy I only got to watch the Women's Team competion and I had to record it twice because they ended up not showing it the first time I recorded it.

Great job USA! Simone is still so awesome. I love how she's still going despite her age. Way to go Simone. I felt bad for Leanne when she fell on the beam when she was filling in for someone else. I felt bad for Roberson getting injuried before she could compete. That stinks.

France and Brazil were really good. Rebeca Andrade is still incredible and so were Marine Boyer and Melanie De Jesus Dos Santos.

Thank you for posting about how well the men's team did. That's wonderful!

That's horrible. I really wish I was surprised by it. It's been happing in elite gymnastics. Of course it happens in NCAA. I remember Raine Gordon competing. She was a very talent gymnast. Poor Kara driven to quit something she loved and was really talented at. None of that should ever happen.

U of Oklahoma got knocked out in the semi-finals today--they had a really bad vault rotation and then almost as bad a beam rotation. I don't think they've lost a meet all season. The final is Saturday--LSU, U of Florida, U of Utah and I think Cal? I think it's LSU's to lose.

(Shallow night--Ragan Smith needs to lay off the self-tanner. She was literally orange.)

I'm shocked that Oklahoma was knocked out. But they had a brutal vault and beam. Alabama also had a brutal meet. Even Luisa Blanco fell off the beam. Alabama and Oklahoma have been getting 99.00 scores this season and a few 199.00. I was hopinig they kept getting higher. That's really rare. It would be great to see that at the final.

I'm excited that Cal made it to final. I hope they win. But Florida, LSU and Utah are tough competition. As much as I love those teams I'd love Cal to win.

L-S-U! L-S-U! Geaux Tigers!

The look of joy on Aleah Finnegan's face as she stuck her beam dismount was wonderful. (And I just have a soft spot for the Finnegans.) The Tigers have had such an amazing season, I am so proud of them! Between last season and this one, I've really started to love college gymnastics! (I went to a tiny private women's college and never had the experience of playing in an arena or a stadium with 10,000 fans. Or even sitting in one. I loved my college experience but I did miss out on the huge college sports scenarios.)

Just watching the American Classic on a stream on flipnow.  After the first rotation Gabby had an extremely rough floor routine scoring 11.450; Jade had a strong vault (couldn’t ID it, but it was worth 5.00 - DTY?) scoring 14.200; and Suni was the final performer of all on beam with a good performance scoring  14.300 with a D value of 5.9.  Kelise Woolford has a particularly lovely, precise dance quality with gorgeous turns on the floor.  She had a relatively high score of 13.150.

I’m sure there were other athletes of note that I didn’t focus on.  The competition is taking place at a gym, and there are no ID’s of competitors or announcement of the scores.  There’s a separate page you can follow with the scoring.

Second rotation about to start ...

ETA: looks like Suni’s not doing floor. Roberson didn’t do floor and is not going to do vault.  Jade is on bars now, and Gabby on vault.

ETA2: Didn’t know Gabby was working with Liukin.  Good vault.  Looked like a DTY, and she scored 14.000.

ETA3: Whoa, Jade just laid down a strong bars routine with lots of twisty moves between the bars (see, I’m an expert!). Let’s see what the D level is ... 5.2.  She scored 13.400.  It’s the second highest bar score after Myli Lew, who seems to be the next best one after the Olympic champions.  Unfortunately I missed both Lew’s performances.

ETA4: Oh, crap.  Gabby’s off the bars twice.  Sigh.  Suni did a lovely 4.2 D vault for 13.250. Jade did a good beam set: 13.650. Roberson did bars: 12.650.

ETA5: Suni didn’t do the bars as originally scheduled.  DK why.  Gabby was okay on beam: 13.350.  Jade was good on floor: 13.750.  I’ve heard there are new artistic/dance requirements/standards; maybe she’s running afoul of those.  Roberson was okay on beam: 12.500.

Stupid question. Is this the same as the Core Hydration Classic? Or a different one? The Core Hydration Classic just aired with US Classic tomorrow.

Can someone explain what happened to the American Cup? Why don't they do it anymore?

For a while it was absorbed into the FIG All-Around World Cup series, but the FIG hasn't reinstated that since COVID (2020 American Cup, which Morgan Hurd won, was the last event in the series before the shutdowns). USAG hasn't seen a need to resurrect it if it's not going to be an FIG event. Plus now they have Winter Cup at the same point in the season, which has the advantage that far more US gymnasts can compete than just 1 or 2 in American Cup. It's too bad because at least American Cup got a handful of international gymnasts to compete in person in the US every year.

Thank you! Very helpful.

And a little confusing, it had such a big American brand, I'm honestly confused as to how they abandoned it so easily. It had been around since Nadia, for God's sake.

Just finished watching Day 2:

Suni’s red leo and lip was EVERYTHING.

Next quad will be just as competitive, if not more, than this one

Jordan’s personality is great, and I’m glad the Karolyi’s are gone, cause we would have never seen that

My team right now:

Simone

Shilese

Suni

Skye

Jordan (if she hits both days at Trials. I think the way she stepped in in Tokyo is going to help her cause)

Skye was awesome last night! I wish Jordan hadn't fallen off the beam but she's probably still going to be picked.

Great job from Jade and Tiana. Hezly was really good too.

I hope Shiliese heels. She's so good I want her on the team.

Simone was awesome.

I really hope Kayla makes it. She was good. There's so many great gymnasts it's going to be hard to chose.

I've been lucky enough to have attended all the sessions so far - and the women's  final tonight!!!  Woo!

Anyway, my heart breaks for Shane Wiskus.  He came in 3rd and yet was named an alternate.  Meanwhile, Asher Hong falls off the pommel horse, which I've never seen in my life, and makes the team!  I know the selection committee does all sorts of math to figure out the best chance for medals, but I think it sucks!

I know this is mean and probably unpopular, but I haaaate how the US men scream, yell, and make a scene after finishing an apparatus. The women don't do that (and if they did, they would probably be accused of being arrogant or bad sportsmanship). I get being excited when you do well, but it gets on my nerves because it is so over the top.

The incredibly bitchy side of me also thinks, my dudes, win consistently at World's and the Olympics like the ladies and then you can do that.
