To Kathy’s credit, she does it well and has been very entertaining even it it is act. It is such a nice change from the dreck that the RH  franchises have been in the last 16 months.

This is my first experience of Kathy, so I had no idea that she wasn't just the bumbling, silly doofus she's portraying, until I read many comments here!  I thought she was fun and a little ott, but now I'm side-eyeing her.

 Of course I knew about Paris, but didn't pay much attention except to eye roll here and there, and wonder if she'd have to have her phone surgically removed, but that's about the extent of what I knew. It's disappointing if Kathy isn't a nice yet shallow person, but she is adding some lightness and goofiness on this show so far.

She's got to be doing one of those couture rental subscriptions, right? She doesn't wear anything on camera twice that I've noticed. I know there's even subscriptions for rental designer shoes.

I'm sure some of the women will take to Kathy due to her name and wealth, but the fact she gets along with most people says something. I cut her slack for sister stuff, because sisters will get into it. 

I hope Kathy continues as "friend of" for the lifestyle porn. A lot of the parties these ladies have aren't all that different from ones I attend, but Kathy's are on another level.

Me too! I love things like that. I still feel ripped off we didn’t get a full tour from when Candy Spelling sold her manor. I wanted to see everything in detail.

Does anyone here know much about Rick? I don't know if it's Kathy's age, her personality or having a secure partner, but she seems so comfortable in her skin. Some of the others seem like they compete for most popular housewife, most glam, etc. Kathy seems happy just being herself. I read Big Kathy kind of raised the girls to be competitive, not sure if that's true. I see that in Kyle, but not in Kathy.

From the bits and pieces we’ve seen of him over the years he still acts like a dork the pretty girl said yes to and still can’t believe it. That’s the vibe he gives off.

One of the blogs or social media stated that Rick was considered a bit of a failure in business by his relatives, I think his father and grandfather? Also, I learned that the Hilton dynasty does not leave vast wealth to its descendants. It is said that they are given enough to have a business foundation, but they are expected to succeed on their own merits (and Hilton connections, of course).

I have a suspicion that Kathy and Rick are not as wealthy as many believe. This is based on media stuff that was reported during Paris' first appearance on the porn scene. I clearly remember reading that her parents helped her negotiate the rights and sales to her porn video, which has colored my opinions of them ever since.

I’ve never thought they were as rich as everyone thinks but still very rich. Hilton & Hyland does really well.

I'm doing a rewatch of Season 5. Kathy shows up for Brooke's wedding dress shopping and criticizes every single thing about the gowns she's trying on. Kim, Kyle and their kids seem terrified of her.

I've read that Kim and Kathy get along better than Kyle does with either of them. 

I think Kathy may have a more objective vantage point of Kim vs. Kyle because of the age difference and might be more sympathetic about Kim's experiences than Kyle is.  Just speculation.

As for her goofiness, I think it's true but played up a bit. I still laugh when I remember her showing up and the season 6(?) finale where Adrienne was doing her fundraiser and Kathy was like 'you do magic now?'. lol

It's hard to figure out. I remember season one Kyle was really hurt that Kathy and the rest of the Hilton clan didn't show up to Farrah's college graduation. I forgot what reason they gave, but they did give a "very generous" amount of money. 

When Nicky got married, I don't think Mauricio and the two younger girls were invited. I think that may have been due to The Agency, but not sure why it affected the kids. Kyle always talks about Paris and Nicky so affectionately, it would be weird for Nicky to not want all four Umanksy cousins at her wedding. 

Not talking for so many years started due to Limogate in season 1, right? I wonder if Kathy would have been as concerned about American Woman if Kim was never outed as an alcoholic.

The thing is though, for Paris, acting dumb is something she’s been desperately trying to get away from. The woman has a master’s degree and actual intelligence, but due to her prior “dumb” act, it’s still following her around (which is unfortunate). 

I noticed that Kathy doesn’t seem to know how to do a lot of things (or won’t). I honestly can’t tell if it’s an act or if Kathy truly just doesn’t know. It’s mind boggling. 

I don’t dislike Kathy, but I don’t love her either. I do love that she eats actual food and isn’t filmed taking just a bite or two—she eats!

I'm assuming you mean a metaphorical master's degree because Paris has a GED and not a single second of college education. Maybe she attended that Harvard Business certificate program for high net worth individuals that Tyra Banks did (and keeps misstating that she has a "degree" from Harvard Business School). Nicky dropped out of FIT. Barron is the only one in the immediate family, other than Rick, with a college degree. Paris might intelligent, but she's not formally educated.

As for Kathy, I've never liked her and still don't. She's managed to raise or not raise children with not insignificant periods of awfulness, which includes many instances of proclaiming their bigotry. Furthermore she was usually came off like a cow and bully during her previous appearances on the show. Finally despite Kim saying that Kathy would have her back like a real sister, the one time Kathy publicly got involved in the Kim/Rinna feud was to defend Big Kathy because Rinna said that all three of the sisters were screwed up because of Big Kathy. Kathy chastised Rinna for talking about her mother. Kathy still kept inviting Rinna to her Christmas party.

I am not an expert on the Hiltons, but based on what I've seen on RH and read posted on the board . . .

Kathy is probably the sister that's easiest to be friends with. If she has an ugly side to her, we haven't seen it on the show. She hasn't been part of anything like Limogate, Game Night, screaming and cursing people out, bullying anyone, etc. 

Kyle and Kim sound like they're more loving mothers. Say what you want about Kyle, but I can't see her ever sending her kid off to boarding school, much less doing it and not regularly checking up on them. She is very loving and nurturing toward her girls. (I really hope that's not true in Kathy's case, because, who does that?! I didn't watch the documentary about Paris, but she went through hell, right?) I also think Kim's kids are her world, and that she really hates that she missed out on stuff due to her struggles. 

I don't think Kathy is a stupid person, but I think she's kind of in her own world and can be a ham for the cameras. She didn't grow up with Hilton money, but she did grow up very comfortably and got with Rick right out of high school, right? She doesn't know what it's like to be poor. She's been very rich her entire adult life. She's used to being taken care of. Whatever is going on politically, her life will be just fine. 

My favorite thing about her is how secure she is with herself and the fact she doesn't try hard. I get the impression she knows she has a good life, and she couldn't care less if other women get more attention from fans or being glam. She doesn't have to prove that she's rich, we know she is. She doesn't have to brag about who she knows, we know her circle is full of famous folks. As far as reality TV goes, she brings a calmness to the show. A lot of the others bring this negative energy. Despite her $ and famous name, I find her one of the least intimidating. Erika will go off on you for a bad analogy. Dorit would give you etiquette lessons. Kyle will throw a tantrum if you show up late to an event that's not even hers. Rinna throws her own friend under the bus. Crystal will gleefully smirk that she hasn't heard of you, like ever. Kathy might forget who people are or forget to show up, but she's lovely when she's around.

I almost expected Kathy's "obsession" with needing her fan to annoy me, until she explained she needs one to help her sleep and keep her asleep. 

I have a similar issue and listen to ambient music to fall asleep.

Fans are great for sleeping! You need one thats not quiet though, because it blocks out most all other noise without being too loud. It doesn’t engage the mind with any words, thought pictures, or music, which can make you be anticipatory for the next note to play, you knowing exactly what note should come next. No engagement of the mind at all because its just indistinguishable background noise you don’t even notice after its on for a minute . Plus that cool fresh breeze a’blowing on your face giving you cool fresh air if you want it. If not, just turn over and pull up the blankets. I used to have a solar battery powered one for when I went camping back in the day. Like Kathy , I had to/have to, have a fan to sleep. I completely understand her need to drag that thing around everywhere she goes. It’s definitely a necessity!

I should implement a fan into my sleep routine for the reasons you mentioned.

And you know what? I don't think bringing your own fan on a visit is over the top. How is that any different than Kyle (Doogie) bringing her Nespresso machine or when Kim brings her own juicer?

She should travel with her butler, he can plug in her fan and each night get her the most recent newspaper and a bag of chips.  As dim as she seems and as frustrating it can be for Kyle and the rest of us I do like her, she is a straight shooter, a helpless with basic life skills straight shooter.

For the life of me I cannot figure out helpless people like that, I have a friend that has a very fancy car that speaks to her and yet she could not figure out what it was saying, it was saying "fill the car up with gasoline, you are going to run out of gas, I mean it, seriously girl, you will be stranded on the highway if you don't fill up NOW!!!), road side assistance had to bring her gas, she said she does not get gas, it is her husband's job to do that sort of thing, ugh.

Act or not, I love Kathy on the show. I haven’t liked anyone since Lisa Vanderpump left and Kathy has filled that void for me. I also liked Paris so when she had her show, so I guess the whole charade works for me. I hope she doesn’t change if she decides to continue on the show. She’s made me forget how much I hate Dorit (at lest until Dorit comes onscreen, then it all comes back to me).

Anybody else see Paris on NBC Nightly News just now? She’s lending support to legislation in Congress to regulate group homes. Sounds like she suffered horrific treatment — I looked online and apparently Kathy and her husband sent her away when she was 16 because of behavior issues.

 Just watched the Paris documentary on YouTube over the weekend. It's all about this. It was brutal by her account. Not gonna lie, it made me cry. She's still processing the trauma. They interview her friends and roommate while she was there. All the stories they tell are awful.

I only watched a few episodes of this season (mostly to see the Erika Jayne drama unfold), but I wanted to say that Paris's wedding dress is beautiful.    I thought that Kathy was a nice addition to the show.  Do you all want her back for another season?  Again, I only saw a few shows, so I didn't see a lot of her.  She seemed kind of quiet and in the background.
