  1. I am so glad Isaac lost! Between the leaning, the slightly loose tie, the starting mid-category and his voice, I had a hard time watching the second round. Yay, Rick! FJ was an instaget for me. I was sad that "invincible" was a TS, and kind of surprised at how many states they missed. I'm pro-beard, but then I've always been a fan of well-kept facial hair. As long as it isn't stubble, though, it's all good. :)
  2. I love the new (to me) Subaru/dogs commercial! It's a take on the school team/cheerleaders fundraising car wash. All the dogs washing the car are bulldogs, who are having fun playing in the water and spraying the hose, just like teenagers do at a car wash, but when our dog family leaves, the car is only clean up to just above the wheels. Because the bulldogs can't reach any higher. I am still laughing about it. Unlike the one where our dog family drops their pup off at obedience school. I love that ad too, but it's a tearjerker.
  3. Way back in the dark ages, when the movie was first released, the Endor/Redwood forest fact was common knowledge -- even among more casual fans. :)
  4. Here in western Va, we also have two venomous snakes, at least two venomous spiders, but no alligators. In eastern Va, add at least another venomous snake or two. And there’s underbrush like crazy — shrubs and vines and low-hanging branches. The only forests that are somewhat clear are the tree farms, and those still have the spider webs.
  5. And no one who goes into the woods on TV ever runs into a spider web at face level. That always happens to me!
  6. More people didn't like it than did -- and that's part of why it was cancelled halfway through the season. No apologies necessary! I'm sure there are shows you like that I can't abide. :)
  7. I love the song -- and the show, in case you couldn't tell from my name here. :)
  8. Re: Firefly -- I think I can overlook some of the things Mal and Jayne do and say because of all the strong, independent, downright badass women on the show. I would not want to be on the bad side of River (who can kill you with her brain), Zoe, Kaylee or even Inara. They were all forces to be reckoned with in their own ways.
  9. OMG! I apparently can. not. escape the Rhonda Rousey Twizzlers ad! I went to a movie this afternoon, and that idiotic ad played before the trailers! Save me!!!! LOL
  10. I just got back from seeing this, and I loved it! I haven't read the books -- I'm not sure I even knew there were books -- but I plan to! The opening scene, to me, conveyed that Eleanor was no one to be trifled with, and that certainly played out in the rest of the movie. Thanks to @arc for posting the link to the piece explaining the mah jongg scene -- while I was watching, I kept thinking that it would probably be more meaningful if I knew how to play. Not that I didn't get the gist of it all, but it might have made more sense when they both turned over their tiles at the end. I liked that we didn't get the actual conversation between Nick and Eleanor at the hotel. Just showing her there to talk to him, and then the reveal of Nick giving Rachel Eleanor's ring were enough. Show, don't tell. One of my favorite bits, though, was when Rachel and Nick arrived at the Singapore airport and she says she can't believe how nice it is, while all JFK has is salmonella and despair. Truer words were never spoken!
  11. I'm watching Harry Potter on SyFy, and it seems like the Rhonda Rousey Twizzler ad is on every single time they break for commercials. As if it weren't annoying enough just seeing it once or twice a day, I've seen it three or four times every hour for several hours! Ugh.
  12. Every time I hear the Purdue University Global ad, it sounds like the announcer is saying, “Purdue University Blowhole”. At least it catches my attention, I guess.
  13. I suspect everyone involved (including Senator McCain) had some say in how the funeral(s) would be handled/organized. It wouldn't surprise me if they had started planning the service(s) months ago. ETA: I appreciate the televising of celebrity funerals, since I obviously wouldn't be able to attend -- much like royal weddings.

    Titanic (1997)

My eyes were rolling too hard for me to cry about Jack and Rose.
  15. Did the shocks scramble Steve’s brain, too? I thought he was at least a little smarter than that. In fact I thought he was playing Declan by pretending not to know what chess was. Agreed about Jess and Todd and Pack.
  16. Finally got to see this last night, and I loved it! It really kept me guessing, wondering where exactly they were going with this story, and I did think at first that the Equi sapiens were a hallucination. When I realized they were real, I figured Cassius would become one -- just that the drug was not fast-acting. Anyway, so much subtext and social commentary/satire -- it was great, and I think it'll take some thinking about to unpack it all. He did, at one point, say he was too old for this shit.
  17. Thanks for the info! I don't know why I thought the Teacher's Tournament was like the others.
  18. Re: The teachers -- I thought teachers applied specifically for the tournament, and were not in the general pool of contestants?
  19. I don't know how I really feel about a Bewitched reboot, but if, as mentioned in another thread somewhere, they cast Nicole Beharie and Tom Mison as the leads, I'm all in. Especially if Tom reboots the beard.
  20. Will their children have polka dots like Tabitha and her Black friend in the Very Special Episode?
