Current Plots Discussion: Actually Today's Episode
Happytobehere replied to CatLady's topic in Days Of Our Lives
Came back to check on the boards to see if Days was worth checking out again, and based on what I'm reading, it remains a shit storm. Glad to see the Higlemonster still dumping on Kayla. Steve an Kayla remain my all time favorite couple but I can't co-sign on Kayla continuing to be the victim of pain, torment agony and misery because of her connection to Steve. As a fan of her character, I think oth she and MBE deserve better. Unfortunately if Kayla is not paired with Steve, the show fails to untilze MBE talents and she gets written off. So I guess the only way to keep Kayla is for her to be saddled with Steve, too bad, every other woman on the show gets to have more than one love interest, but not Kayla. Instead, she gets to be perpetually victims by the assorted skanks that Steve hooks up with, and now the progeny of said unions. I've been subjected to RC's work before, so believe me when I say his tenure will produce nothing but more loathsome crap. When will showrunners stop recycling the crappy writers who have for so long played a part in the continuing demise of the soap genre? -
GINA "MOTHERF'ING" TORRES! YES, Claws continues to come through for the viewers. I know she ended the episode as a mark, but I would love for the show to find a way to integrate Ms. Torres into the show on a recurring basis -- a reluctant frenemy perhaps. I know we are only four episodes in, but I didn't realize how unstable and pathological Polly is -- that can't turn out well given all that in going in the Claws world. So now Virginia's stupidity has cost an innocent man his life. She truly is incapable of thinking from step 1 to step 1A. What did she think creepy-freaky-murderous Uncle-Daddy would do when she wove that tale of hers. As Desna tried to tell her, less is more -- you can't save yourself by spinning a tale that would lead to the inevitable demise of others. Now they have to get Ken or is it Kent back from the unstable Bryce. How many deaths/maimings will be on Desna and Virginia's heads before Uncle Creepy-Freaky gets hip to their involvement in Roller's death. So Desna is being haunted by Roller. She is really struggling to hold things together. Desna and Dean's background is coming into play. They were in the foster care system and not surprisingly subject to abuse. Didn't Bryce say something about his and Roller's less that delightful childhood? I wonder if this past of unhappy childhoods served as a connection between Desna and Roller?

I love seeing the fall of Ghost, he is such a POS. I want both Ghost and Angela to get exactly what's coming to them. The only people I want left standing are Tasha, Tommy, Dre and Keisha.

Here is an article by Black Girl Nerds that looks at the character of Olivia Pope and her relationship with Fitz: http://dlvr.it/PRCdsM

Vi is the father's sister.

I agree with this assessment. As I was watching the episode and listening to what she was saying, I too thought that Isabella is gay and didn't feel that she could openly declare herself as such. I am actually liking the show more than I thought I would, so I know what that means in terms of its future. Too bad ABC is giving it next to no promotion.

I'm glad to see that people are loving claws, because I think it is great as well. The perfect summer show. I'm with those who wonder where the storynwitht the autistic brother is going because I doubt the show would cast an actor of HP character in what is essentially a throw-away role. I sort of wish they had not killed off Roller because I think his pairing with Niecey Nash was gold and could have been mined for some time. As other noted, I was surprised to find that Roller clearly considered Desna to be the woman he was with. He probably never saw an example of the proper way to treat the person you were with, especially if Uncle-Daddy was his primary role model. I dont think the actress playing Virginia is especially talented. She stands out as the weak link on a show with some really strong actors. Maybe it's just me, but I dont find her particularly believable in the role she is playing. Maybe she will improve, or the show will find her niche and it will make me change my mind, but so far, she is the most replaceable actor on the show.

Hap And Leonard - General Discussion
Happytobehere replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Hap And Leonard
Really? I didn't see any white children. I thought the boy tied to the gate was black, just light-skinned. -
I think Rosaline and Benvolio are endgam as well. I like Rosaline with Escalus, but I find the Benvolio pairing intriguing and watching them fall in love and beginning to root for them (if the show lasts long enough) as their actual alliance wrecks havoc on their respective uncles' plans could be a thing of beauty. Also, watching Escalus's head spin when he gets what he asked for -- a union of Rosaline and Benvolio. Their pairing could be the ultimate case of be careful what you wish for.

Current Plots Discussion: Actually Today's Episode

Just came back to check in after being gone for a few months,,, and I see my decision to cease watching was a wise move. Don't know when my next check-in will be. -
Let us not forget that Daddy Braxton was a preacher and MIss Wanda worked with him in the church. That is a major part of Ms. E's disdain and makes her prior comment about DB being lowdown and dirty all the more understandable. As we saw with the PV episodes, DB is quite controlling and manipulative. I wonder if part of Ms. E's bitterness is connected to things she sacrificed to his manipulations that she came to realize was connected to his deceit;, leaving her to stew in what she gave up on his behalf as he was screwing around and then dumped her once she no longer served a purpose for him. I mean the affair, the bringing that skank to her home and the remarriage 30 days after the divorce speaks volumes on both DB and Miss Wanda's characters, no matter how she is attempting to spin it now.

Rumors aside, I said it when Nia first came on and it becomes more apparent with each appearance-- Nia Long simply can't act. Nia is fine when she stays in her lane, but anything that requires her to move beyond that doesn't work. She isn't conveying what the role is supposed to be based on everybody's comments about the Guilliana character.

Umm, Isn't Marcus servicing Mellie, and wasn't he sleeping with the wife of some powerful politician, who was also white, so are they really that different when it comes to concubine status?
-
On one hand, I feel sorry for the mother and all she has clearly been through, but it is clear that on some level, she resents, if not outright hates her children and used them as a means of spreading her pain. To allow your children to be in proximity to your moleters, to be flip when one of your daughters tries to reach out to you when she is molested; to deny your treatment of your oldest daughter and pretend that she is imagining your mistreatment and neglect; to challenge your daughter who says you always treated her as if she was your competition, deny it and demand examples, then talk over her and walk away when she tries to provide the examples you asked for it too much. Some people are simply too damaged to heal even when they have clearly been living a life at rock bottom for decades, and when they are fighting their reality, nothing can be done to help them. I just hope her daughters can find some peace and begin to heal, even if that healing means they have to excise their mother from their lives o achieve that healing.

Preach! I have long felt this and this episode confirmed the above. Daddy is only there now because he wasn't going to be left out of the spot-light. He showed up unexpectedly at Toni's wedding because she was the star and his ego wouldn't allow him not to get a little of that shine. Trina, gets nothing, and Tamar saw how he do and knew she would get the Trina treatment if she did not cave. My heart broke for all three of the sisters knowing that what should have been happy and joyous moments for them, their weddings, were ruined by their delightful father. While Miss E can be a trip and nine-tenths, he is a selfish, self-serving bastard and he love himself above anyone else. So his new wife has to be on the same-level of ain't shitness as him because she actually tried to act as if she was an innocent and wounded party who had no understanding of the venom coming her way. They so clearly deserve one another.

No, you are not. How can a show with so many characters lack even one likable person?
-
When the only enjoyable thing in an episode where sociopathic killers Huck, Quinn and Charlie, your show officially needs to cease airing episodes. As for Jake and Abby, I don't care who kicks her, as long as she keeps getting kicked. I can't stand her and have felt this way since nearly the beginning of the series. Such an entitlement snowflake -- sickening.

S09.E240: Reunion Part 4
Happytobehere replied to zoeysmom's topic in The Real Housewives Of Atlanta
I don't understand the Khandi was not a good friend to Porsha claims. As has been pointed out more than once, Khandi was going through a lot in her own life during this time and there is no indication that Phaedra gave he even the slightest of thoughts. Endin a marriage to a guy you were clearly using from jump and had moved on from does not compare to Khandi's situation. Phaedra' inability to see this and be there for Khandi during her time of need just reinforces the belief that I an apparently others have that Phaedra is a sociopath. Apollo must be loving Phaedra's downfall. -
S09.E240: Reunion Part 4
Happytobehere replied to zoeysmom's topic in The Real Housewives Of Atlanta
1. This whole reunion show could have been a single episode. 2. Phaedra is a sociopath. She showed no emotion or remorse throughout and had the nerve to try and frame herself as the victim. 3. Porsha is too stupid to function in life without adult supervision. Her tears made me feel nothing for her. Live as a moron, die as a moron. 4. Khandi should definitely seek a legal recourse from Phaedra and Porsha. 5. Sheree is shady AF for comforting Porsha. She is not the victim and to comfort her over Khandi means that on some level, you enjoyed what was done to Khandi. 6. Cynthia was the only one to actually say anything of any intelligence or value. 7. Andy Cohen is a walking, talking PoS. Bravo is right their walling in the muck with him. 8. I am done with this show because they have graduated from co-signing on the questionable to co-signing on criminal behavior. While this is no major loss for me, it is a major loss to others.. -
First time I ever fell asleep during the show. It speaks volumes for what Shonda is presenting us. What happened to this show supposedly being the tale of a powerful and intelligent black woman wkith actual skills. Olivia has been diminished to prop Mellie, hell, even Poppa Pope is being lowered to prop Fitz. What would we poor black people do without Shonda representing for us like this.

Evelyn made it clear that he does not want the interaction with their father and his wife and that should be the end of it. Braxton has clearly and repeatedly chosen his wife over his children and that will not change. Based on the described state of the sisters' relationships or lack thereof with their father, I seriously question if he would be interacting with them now, were it not for the spotlight he gets from being on the show. I said it previously and I'll say it again now. Part of the other sisters fractured relationship with Traci is rooted in their feeling that she sided with the father when the parents split. Her reaction to and denial of Evelyn's comments about his multiple affairs reinforces this.

S09.E23: Reunion Part 3
Happytobehere replied to Jamie Satyr's topic in The Real Housewives Of Atlanta
The only things I really have to say after whatchng the rising action of next week's shit show is: 1) Khandi is a better person than I would be given the circumstances (I agree with the previous poster who said Khandi needs tô throat punch that talking sack of garbage; 2) Phaedra and Porsha both need to be fired; 3) If the show lets them remain, it is co-signing on their dangerous and criminal behavior (yes Phaedra is the more culpable of the too, but Porsha is a thousand pounds of stupid in a five pound bag and she will only learn from sharing the same punishment as her bestie), and if this is the path the show chooses, people need to stop watching and Khandi and Todd need to look into getting an attorney who can advise them about whether they have a case against the showrunners; 4) Phaedra should be facing disbarment and possible charges for what she has been and clearly continues to do.- 282 replies

Yes. The sad thing was as we watched a show about a teen who opted out and the clear signs that it was coming and how everyone missed it, it was clear that Alex was teetering. Heck, he even monetioned killing himself and neither we the viewers, or the other characters caught it because we were so focused on the awful of the group of kids and the coverup. Tyler (who I mistakenly kept calling Taylor) is so clearly on the edge in terms of his not taking it anymore. I agree that unlike Hannah, he will direct his anger outward. I hadnt' even considered another poster's idea that maybe the reason Tyler took Alex's picture down was because he shot Tyler. Seeing where Alex was at, i speculated in the thread for the previous episode that he was the one to try and kill himself as that scene with his father seemed off for some reason. Courtney remained Courtney throughout, even assface Marcus seemed to be in favor of coming clean. I wish Jessica had not lied about the tapes, but she was blindsided by them knowing and she clearly needed to collect herself to speak her truth to her father. I think that if she had acknowledged the existence of the tapes and been asked, she might have broken, and she wasn't ready to go there in her own right, let alone in front of her dad. I wonder how Hannah's parents ae going to react to the tapes, they need to know, but do they really want to hear what happened, and the clueless role they played, from ignoring the many signs that something was wrong with their daughter; not addressing Hannah's desire to move; not speaking to her when she was repeatedly commenting on her lack of popularity; sending her to the party that really signaled the beginning of the end, when she was clearly desperate for a reason not to go -- who volunteers to stay home and do schoolwork rather than go to a party; and so on. I actually would have liked to see Mr. Porter's reaction to his tape. His tears during his conversation with Clay spoke volumes for his own state of mind and sense of guilt regarding Hannah's death. While he wasn't the best counselor, I do feel that in some ways, Hannah did set Mr. Porter up to fail on that final day. If you know he is trying to work with you and he is telling you that absent actual information he is unable to to act on your behalf (while totally understanding why Hanna could not speak her truth), Hannah did both herself and him no favors. However, at this point, I do think she was too far gone to truly be saved, because no one could have told her exactly what she wanted and needed to hear under the circumstances. I would hope that Mr. Porter would first go to Hannah's parents, and then turn over the tapes (especially since Jessica is telling, Sheri told and it appears that Zach and Marcus told, and Alex went over the edge, thus removing any confidentiality obligation). He will likely be made te scapegoat and lose his job, but I think not doing the right thing could destroy him, just as we saw it destroy Alex. I keep seeing and hearing people say this about Clay. However, he is a kid. He loved Hannah. He knew he was on the tapes here she talked about people contributing to her death. How and why would listening to the tapes straight through be easy or expected of him. Also, people seem to be overlooking Clay's own issues. We know he was in therapy and on medication so, he clearly had emotional issues of his own that he was navigating. He was waking up with night terrors, not showering for a time -- all because he was trying to Ms today himself =under the weight of Jeff's death, Hanah's death and the tapers. People seeming to get frustrated at the pace that Clay moved in his listening really troubles me, as it seems like the big point of the show is being lost in people putting this level of pressure on his character. My issue with this and other similar thinkpieces is that far too many of those criticizing 13 Reasons Why have either not seen the show, or have not seen the show in its entirety. So when they criticizes short comings and discuss problems within the show, they are in essence a part of the very problem they are criticizing. Watch the entire show and then tell me how and in what ways the show was problematic and could be better (I am eager to listen because I wonder if the show and its intent can in fact backfire). Absent that, you are just pontificating in a quest for your own moment in the sun, so how are you truly helping those in crisis when you speak from a place of complete or partial ignorance.

I so want someone to have finally decided to take Bryce out. We know Taylor (or is it Tyler) got a gun, and was big on the if Bryce goes down, we could escape culpability. My personal feeling is that if it is a suicide attempt, it's Alex. That scene in his room with his father with ehtidying up and his reaction to the father's comments made me think something was amiss and then we get the teen with the gunshot to the head. I hope I'm wrong though, as I think Alex has really been beating himself up for the F'd up things he did to Jessica and Hannah and the chain of events that were the offshoots of his actions. I almost forgot that Justin might be at Hannah levels of desperate given what just happened and Zach's not picking up his call. He can't go to Bryce, Jeccis basically told him to drop dead. Alex isn't an option for a long-term living set-up, so he might feel that like Hannah, he has nothing and no-one left to live for. It better not be Clay, the kid, who aside from Jeff, deserves to have something good happen to him. That was the moment that Hannah officially died. Everything else were like slices into her soul, but that moment there was the equivalent of having someone tear open her chest and rip her heart out. Bryce killed Hannah, as much as Hannah killed Hannah, because even if she wasn't already being weighed down by the rest of the ish in her life, being raped by the BMOC and feeling (and not incorrectly cause, rape culture is us), that if she told, she would be made the villain of the piece and Bryce the victim could have been enough to send even a happy and well adjusted person to where Hannah went. In the thread for episode 11, I listed Courtney right behind Bryce for being the absolute worst, followed by Marcus. All three of them are awful, and while she clearly is not a Bryce, in many ways she shows herself to be the worst in the room at all times, and given the levels of suck of these characters, that's truly saying something. Like you, I find her to be monsterous levels of awful. The coming out excuse holds no water for me because she gleefully lied about Hannah being gay, outed her, added additional lying slander to the mix and continued laughing and talking about Hannah to deflect fro her ish, so , no, I feel no sympathy for the Woe is me, my life might be hard if the world found out I'm gay, even though I would still have the love and support of my gay dads. So F' Courtney she ranks right below Bryce as being a worthless, self-serving, vicious PoS.
