Was that a compliment to Fet or an insult to the girlfriend? It works both ways. I hate Zach. I hate Eph. They make me root against the humans. Fet and Quinlan remain my favorites along with their surrogate daddy, who they surprisingly never seem to speak of. Perhaps the only way the boys can get along is not to address their Daddy issues.

I think with all that we have seen and continue to see, it is clear that Steve doesn't give a damn about Kayla. He cares about what he gets from Kayla and having a perpetual doormat in his life, but I don't believe that Steve has ever or would ever put what's best for Kayla over what's best for Steve. I just want Kayla to walk away from Steve, but of course that won't happen as everyone in Salem would tell her how wrong she is. Hell, they would probably resurrect Bo, the one person who legitimately loved Kayla best, long enough to tell her how wrong she is and that she should kiss Steve's feet and be thankful for his presence in her life.

I liked seeing the siblings interact with one another. This is really the first time we have seen that. I find it interesting Bishop seems to Hold Jacob in disdain for know apparent reason, just as Mae holds Grace in disdain. i thought Charity's issue with Grace ran deeper than just Grace possibly preventing her from spreading her wings. Notice how Charity mentioned Faith. She was a child, but she knew that Grace left regarding a dispute centered on Faith and she stayed away until an issue regarding Faith surfaced, her death. Grace then decided to stay to avenge Faith and now that Faith has been avenged, Grace is ready to bounce again. I think Charity feels, and has expressed in different ways through the series, that she is the spare child, never included, never thought of, never taken seriously. I think Charity was hoping that now that Grace dealt with the Faith issue, she would finally be free to be a sister to her, and Grace wanting to leave was just a reminder that in the Greanleaf Family, she is less than.

Brianne is Jenn's daughter. It was mentioned in an earlier episode, 3 maybe, that her bio dad is in jail and Bryce has raised her since she was a baby. So Juanda and Uncle-Daddy have been her grandparents basically all of her life. Since Uncle-Daddy called her his granddaughter, Juanda addressed both girls as grandma, and Roller put out the Batman-signal,for both girls, I conclude that they consider Brianne family even though there is no blood link.

The show's insistence on making Virginia a thing is maddening. No way would any of the women, some of whom have clearly been friends since childhood, accept her in the click. She doesn't belong, she doesn't fit, and the "actress" continues to be the weak link on the show. Too bad we are stuck with the utter nothing that is Virginia and Juanda, a character who was infinitely more interesting and better acted is dead. Otherwise, the show and episode were awesome. I was surprised that Uncle-Daddy was more interested in getting his granddaughter back than getting revenge. I still think he should have let Roller get taken out, but I'm sure that Reva would have simply killed Baby-Boy and taken the businesses anyway. Desna is correct, Roller is a mad dog that needs to be put down. Wonder if the show will have Roller be the one to come through for Desna with the reveal that Desna's Mr. Right is Mr. Oh-So Wrong. They have too find a way to keep crazy that is their relationship going, if not, they could have kept the original Roller is dead storyline going. Dean dropped some truth bombs on Desna, too bad, or perhaps intentionally, his words were undercut by his relationship with the Skank Ho.

I too suspect that we will spend just about the entire season with Abby before getting the real scoop. This worries me because you do something like this in you final season, not when you are planning on the show continuing.

I loved this episode. Virginia remains stupid and pointless and a "stank ho" I laughed so hard at that. i agree with the poster who said that Uncle-Daddy was somehow involved in the the deaths of Bryce and Roller's parents -- Mr. Mouth almighty got a little too quiet when Bryce was talking about family loyalty and obligations. It was interesting to see Uncle-Daddy getting punked by Michael Emerson's character. I too was hoping he would be a recurring character given his marriage to the actress who plays Polly, but I guess not. Jenn jumped to kissing that guy a little too quickly, makes me wonder if she wasn't secretly tiring of Bryce and this whole Uncle-Daddy thing is the excuse she needs to cut him loose. Add me to the list of people who are dumbstruck over the fact that neither Polly nor Quiet Anne seemed to think that the cop was using Anne to get closer to Desna. I am actually glad that the show is showing how traumatic Roller being held hostage and raped repeatedly has been on him. To often shows and society as a whole treat male rape as a joke, cause what guy wouldn't love to be forced to provide sexual favors. I knew he wasn't going to kill Desna and not just because Niecy Nash is the star of the show, but because I am among the viewers who actually believed that Roller loves Desna to the best of his ability to love based on what he thinks love is. I do think he got involved with the Russians to make sure Desna got the money to get a better shop, home and life for she and Dean after he realized Uncle-Daddy was never going to come through for Desna and the treatment he got from his uncle let him know he couldn't broach the subject again. Some of his increasing jerky treatment of her is probably rooted in this (the ultimate case of the damage a lack of communication causes). I'm not saying that they should be an endgame couple, but it was always clear to me that something more than just sex and business was there. I think Desna keeping Roller from being killed shows that she too cares for him. Her awareness of that caring might not have been as close to the surface as Roller's feelings are, but they are there. As another poster noted, if Roller and Desna actually talked to each other honestly, this entire debacle could have been avoided; Desna got frustrated and angry because she felt Roller wasn't coming through and was just using her and Roller getting embittered by the pressure Desna, The Russians and Uncle-Daddy were putting on him.

I knew Dubois was a Hotep the minute I saw that Queen sign; and in true Hotep fashion, he is right at home with white supremacists. They might hate each other, but they are united in their hatred of eveyone and everything who is not them. Nova best beware of Mr. I Loves My People. I love Vi, but her pushing Nova towards Dubois has me side-eying her. I mean this is the woman who still coddles and covers for Ralph Angel, and then seems surprised when the over-gown man-child she helped create plays at being a grown-ass man, while still wanting to play the role of a pampered baby. So her views on men and what makes a good one are suspect. I love shows that surprise me in a pleasant way and even though I have issues with Darla (her throwing away Kenya because she was jealous of the doll, show she has a ways to go), I find myself liking her more and more. I liked when Darla's sponsor told RA that if he couldn't be the support Darla needs, he needs to do her the favor of walking away. I hope the marriage to Ralph Angel doesn't go through because the turmoil in his life will be what leads her back down the path to addiction. Although I do have to say that Bianca Lawson needs to eat a burger. Even with the weight the camera adds, she is practically skeletal. Remy continues to show his behind. Charley certainly has a type when it comes to men, she just might be trading in Davis to wind up with Davis the second coming. As I watch this episode, I can't get over the fact that the actors who play RA and Micah are just about the same age.
-
I knew Roller was lying about the amnesia. I wonder how long he would have played his little game had the Russians not backed him into a corner. Strangely, I think Roller does love Desna. His love is toxic and dysfunctional, but it is the love he is capable of. Even knowing he was faking, I actually felt bad for him when Doctor Cause a Coma appeared. When Roller looked as Desna and said, "Booed up already" he really did seem to be hurt that Desna found someone else. I also think that Desna cares more for Roller than she is allowing herself to admit. This is undoubtedly partly due to the nature of their relationship; he clearly wasn't faithful and the relationship likely started as some sort of business deal; and partly because of the nature of what was previouutheir last encounter and the abject terror Desna feels as a result. i'm on the fence about Desna telling the Russians she was the one who tried to kill Roller. The truthful story of Roller laying his attempted murder at their feet would have sufficed. The more people who know the truth, the more Desna people will be beholden to to remain out of jail and Uncle-Daddy's radar. Bryce has entered the slippery slope of no return and things will not end well for him. I just hope he doesn't take Jennifer and the kids down with him. Virginia remiains the absolute worst and she needs to go post haste. Forgot to add that I love the reveal that Uncle-Daddy's baby boy was betraying him

Vice Principals - General Discussion
Happytobehere replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Vice Principals
I watched the first episode of this show when it first came on and hated it. I found it racist, sexist garbage designed to pander to the egos of fragile white men, so I stopped watching it. I decided to give the show another try because I had nothing else to watch at the moment and I wanted to give the show another shot, because well, pilot episodes do not necessarily reflect the show we will ultimately get. Having seen the entire season, I can only say this was so much worse than my initial perception. Two completely horrid, mediocre men, who feel entitled to a job, who systematically destroy the home, career and sobriety of a black woman, while facing no consequences for their actions and being rewarded for their deviancy. Who can't find chuckles in that? Seeing people root for these denigrates speaks volumes. Seeing people somehow think Gamby is the better of the two because Russell so clearly a sociopath, shows how sick this show is. Russell is a sociopath who deserves to be institutionalized for the remainder of his life. Gamby however, is worse because he clearly knows right from wrong but relishes the evil he does in the name of his entitlement. The best outcome would be for the season to premiere with Gamby succumbing to his wounds and Russell being caught as he flees from the scene of the crime. Truly a piece of garbage. -
I am so here with you on this. With all the focus on RA and Charley, Nova and her pain get lost in the mix. Let's not forget that the one picture was of a pregnant True with Nova in the picture., meaning the picture could have been more about them tan Nova You mean in thirty-plus years of Nova's existence Ernest never found one thing of her worthy of memorializing? Memorials to True, Charley, RA, Micah and Blue, but nothing that really acknowledged Nova. I do like that the show is starting to give us better insight to the siblings and it used Ernest, who only appeared in the first episode to do it. Ernest really wasn't that great a guy, his treatment of; cutting out of his life and then taking adavantage of her poor situation in life to gain full ownership of the land, tells me he is being remembered a little too fondly by those he left behind. I hate the pussyfooting the show is doing around the very blatant issues of gender-bias and colorism that mark far too many black men and continue to plague the black community. Nova, unfortunely is the victim of both in this family. I think it is clear she loves her siblings, but some of the resent, nets she clearly has for them became more understandable in this episode.

Wasn't he a murderer when he killed the other people whose lives he took?

My exact thoughts. Virginia needs to be gone by season's end. I hope never to see the raping, crazy lady ever again. All things being Desna, the minute she was celebrating being free from Uncle-Daddy, I knew the walls were going to come crashing down. Desna is the definition of the "One step forward, two steps back" adage. I love Desna, but I have to admit that I would like to see a scene (I know it will go on longer than that) where Roller is just goading her. Yes, Virginia "killed" Roller, but that was only because Desna didn't know factor in Roller's auto-asphyxiation kink and that he enjoys and has conditioned himself to be unconscious for extended periods of time when deciding to choke him to death. Poor Bryce. I feel bad for what he has lost of himself in defense of his "dead brother." How is he going to cope when Roller is revealed to be alive?
-
Okay, Jaime provides a cover that protected everyone but Jackson. Based on his practically life-long friendship with Abe, once Jackson was identified, Abe and Daniela should have been exposed as well. But I guess if you were looking for a show with storylines that made sense, you wouldn't be watching Zoo.

I agree with your thoughts on Desna and Roller. HE clearly had a relationship with Dean and we saw that even Desna was surprised to found that Roller claimed her as the woman in his life to to world, and while her visions/nightmares of Roller are undoubtedly linked to the fact that she was involved in the killing of someone, I also think that what was happening reflected that she felt more for Roller than she would for a mere sex partner. You are also right in your assessment of Virginia. She has shown no remorse for that man's death, because it is not in her wheelhouse to think of others. Don't forget that she dragged Polly into her murder plot once she figured things out, suggested her as the person to plant evidence on the Coombes and then was willing to throw Polly to the wolves the first chance she got. Whether the failure of the character to come off as anything but the worst is script, director or actor based, I am unsure, but given the bunny scene no her crying for Desna to sleep in the bed with her because she was afraid, I suspect we are supposed to be starting to feel sympathy for the character. However, the actress fails to convey anything but unlikable, nasty and stupid. Just Saw that Callie Lee 29 literally had the same thought about the depth of Desna's relationship with Roller.

Add me to the list of viewers who don't find the Chronicles of Roller and Crazy Rapey lady enjoyable television. I doubt that most viewers would find it enjoyable were the roles reversed. Ass for the storyline itself, OLTL and Guiding Light did similar stories well about twenty years ago. It was cheap and crappy then and it's cheap and crappy now. I too agree that something is up both with Quiet Anne's new chick and Desna's Haitian doctor. As noted previously, if he goes miraculously turn out to be exactly who he appears to be, the return of Roller will crush Desna's chance at happy. I can't wait for the fallout of Jen putting it together that Desna set up the Coombes'. Yes they were awful, and I will still argue that they got what they deserve, but Desna's role in the more likely than not inevitable downfall of Bryce cannot be ignored or excused. Between Virginia's lies and Desna's schemes, Jen's family is facing serious issues. Speaking of Virginia, the actress remains the weakest link on the show. I guess she was hired based on her previous relationship because her talent certainly didn't gain her entry into the acting world. I stand by my belief that Virginia needs to go once this Roller storyline is over because the character is a liability; that much stupid should never be kept around. Perhaps in the hands of a more capable actress I could develop an interest in the character, but as it stands, Virginia is little more than cannon fodder. Forgot to add, I loved the show being willing to show the anti-black racism in the Asian community rather than acting as if we live in a world where unity in non white communities is a real thing.

I'm not ashamed to admit that when the scene opened on Blue having an episode, my first thought was, "What is he crying about now?" I had t stop and think that Vlue is a child and it has just been the past few episodes where we saw him crying over things, but because those episodes were back to back, it seems like more of a pattern than it might be. When I found it why he was crying, I felt bad. As for Darla'a actions, it shows that contrary to her assertion that she is, "Good," she is in actuality anything but. No stable parent throws out her child's toy because she is jealous of it, no parent who is ready to fully parent her six-year old throws out his child because she is jealous of it. Darla has a long way to go and RA's RAness is not going to help her. While I know she needs a job, I agree with the poster above who noted that being in the middle of the tensions between RA and Charley is a slippery slope that will not end well for her. I liked RA's conversation with Antoine. It shows a different side of the RA character and shows that if Blue's need for Kenya is rooted in something more than being just a security blanket as RA thinks might be the case, we know Blue will have at least one person in his life who loves him unconditionally. So few children in this world have that and even fewer gay/bi/trans children. I know people seem to like Robert and I hope he is what he seems to be, but there is something not quite right there and I can't put my finger on what it is. I hope I'm wrong, but... Either way, I hope Robert serves as a bridge to addressing my issue with Nova -- that she serves as a soapbox with character traits rather than an actual character. Still loving Vi and Hollywood and seeing their adult and loving relationship. This episode proves how little I need to see of Davis. I have zero interest in him and his potential next conquest. I would much rather the show flesh ot actual core characters than treat us to the Davis chronicles.

After side-eyeing Polly last week, I've got to admit, her willingness to slice and dice Virginia to protect Desna had me saying, "Yas, b***h, Yas!" She is hard core ride or die for her girl and proved it big time with setting up those PoS foster parents. Speaking of the set-up, it proved to me once and for all that Virginia is awful and needs to be gone by season's end. First she offers Polly's services for a criminal act, then she is willing to throw her to the wolves the first chance things looked to be headed south. Plus she is getting a little too lippy and nasty for my taste. Lippy, nasty, and unendingly stupid is too much of a liability to be allowed to remain around. Speaking of the evil foster parents, intellectually, I know framing them for a cranime they didn't commit is wrong, but it couldn't have happened to a more deserving pair. Poor Dean, being raped as a child is awful enough but being forced to remain silent for fear that your sister will be raped as well if you don't is so heartbreaking. So Roller is alive and being held prisoner by a bottom-basement Kathy Bates (I know Stephen King is a fan of the show, I hope he is amused by Claws's little play on Misery). This is not going to turn out well for Desna and Polly. Poor Jennifer is already having her world turned upside down and she has no idea that the worst is yet to come. It makes me sad thinking that this whole affair will cause a split between Jennifer and Desna, they are so close. Poor Bryce, his whole life has been ruined because he felt he had to avenge his brother's death. I hope he can hold it together when the Roller reveal comes.

I think there is some merit to your comments regarding Nova. I found Vi's (I think it was Vi) about Nova basically not being around the farm since her mother (which I took to mean the mother's death). I found that interesting because it's one thing to not be interested in the farm because it is not your thing, but not going around there at all? Not knowing the time-frame of the mother's death to RA going to jail, makes it hard for me to speak definitively, but I feel that something is there. I think you are right about my speculation about fetish in regards to RA. I put him in there because I have know idea how he and Darla were in a relationship seeing as they don't seem to know anything about each other. Based on VI's comments last season, it was clear that he and Darla were not childhood friends who just fell into a relationship. But again, absent more of a back-story, it's too early to call. I meant to mention this in my original post, but the show needs to do a better job at incorporating Nova into the family dynamic. For me, her never-ending soapboxes and her rare interactions with her family scream that Nova is a character created for the show, who is there to speak on the issues black people face. However, this does not make her an integral part of the story. She comes across as a sideline character whose relationship to the rest of the family is an afterthought. I also want to know what happened with Calvin because I feel that these white guys she is sleeping with are her ways of finding comfort for Calvin's absence in her life.
-
Aside from how Charley came into existence (has it been established that their father cheated on Nova and RA's mother and produced her), based on their comments about Charley and how she always thought she was better and the way she treats them, I always assumed that her mother is a white woman (there has always been something about her attitude that screams white woman to me). That is what I think RA was talking about -- how she and Davis never raised Micah to believe he was black (he understood it, but was raised to think he was not like "the others") and he now can't handle the reality that smacks down the illusion of better than that Charley and Davis impart in him. So underlying all of this is the fact that they may have been forced to swallow their feelings for Charley's benefit, there has to be some hostility based on her existence, how her presence impacted their mother and what she represents. It could also explain the light-bright and white fetish Nova and RA have -- they came by it naturally.

The Carmichael Show - General Discussion
Happytobehere replied to Skyfall's topic in The Carmichael Show
After watching this episode, I know that I for one will really miss seeing Loretta Devine, David Alan Grier and the actress who plays Nakisha. -
Thanks Chick2Chick. I'm saving the episodes to rewatch once the season ends to see if I can catch things I know are being laid out, but I won't get until all the pieces fall into place; so I'll check for the statement.

Still don't care what happens to Ghost. Still sick of Tariq (Tasha calling him Riq made me think of Reek from Game of Thrones - that's how through I am with his character as I never thought this previously). Still hoping Angela ends up painful dead. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I need the current Kanan storyline to wrap up quickly because 50 isn't a strong enough actor to make me get past the ugly when his character is on screen this much. Still Team Tasha, Tommy, Keisha and Dre. Kanan, Ghost, Angela and to a lesser extent, Tariq (and only because he is a child) can disappear at any time. The use of the race card was priceless as I looked at the prosecutors office and saw a clearly racist white man, a black man who could be on some Clarence Thomas BS, and three non black PoC who could be anti-black , wonder if that was intentional? Tommy running over Hispanic Common shouldn't have been funny, but it was. I like Tommy with Keisha, but I don't know where the show is going with this story. I thought the device placed under Tommy's car was. Bomb, but I didn't see anything happen to his mom (glad of this because I like the actress and think she and Tommy play off each other well), so I guess it was a tracking device. Question -- Is this the last season, because I don't know how much longer this Ghost in jail story can go on if it isn't. Although I guess it could be the season (please no) with Ghost being acquitted in the face of Angela's death and the reveal that her co-worker/supervisor is on the payroll of the drug cartel, thus sinking the case against Ghost.

That's what I thought initially, but with the whole calling him Uncle-Daddy thing and the discussion about their childhoods, I wondered if he wasn't their biological uncle who took them in once Bryce and Roller's parents died and he literally became their "Uncle-Daddy."
-
Four weeks in and I'm still unclear on how/if Uncle-Daddy is related to Bryce and Roller. I went to the TNT page and it offered no clarity as it does not have a "This is who the characters are" page. Can someone help me out?
