  1. Any movie with blackface scenes would not fly today. I was watching That's Entertainment on TCM last night and one of those Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland "let's put on a show" movies had a blackface number and I could barely sit through it. Kinda glad those wouldn't fly today.
  2. I saw it Friday and really enjoyed it. Like others I wonder why we are just hearing about these women now but am glad that at least we are hearing about them now. I'm not generally a fan of TPH but I enjoyed her work here, especially the scene where she has to explain to Kevin Costner's character why she's gone from her desk 40 minutes every day a few times a day, very affecting scene. I thought Janelle Monae (sp?) did a good job as well and Octavia Spencer is always good. Every one played their parts well, I even enjoyed the soundtrack. I've always been a hugh fan of all things NASA so the movie being so NASA heavy didn't bother me one bit. I hope it does well when it opens wide.
  3. I just caught this over the weekend and really enjoyed it. I thought everyone did a good job but especially the three principles. I thought it was touching that although everyone knew she was a terrible singer and some did laugh, none of those close to her laughed in her face. So the finale in Carnegie Hall was really moving seeing the fear and shock on Florence's face when the soldiers start to laugh and jeer and then watch those that never laughed in her face rally the audience to applause and a form of respect was just great. I've never seen the Big Bang Theory so had no previous idea about Helberg's abilities but really enjoyed his performance.
  4. I saw it yesterday and really liked it! I went alone and to one of those ritzy theaters that you wouldn't think would show a Star Wars movie so I think that cut into my absolutely loving it. I did love all the easter eggs and think I caught most of them, probably because I was alone and didn't have to explain anything to anyone. I had heard about CGI Tarkin but still enjoyed him. I wasn't expecting Red and Gold Leaders and was so happy to see them there. I think I gasped when Bail Organa showed up because I wasn't expecting him. Also didn't expect all the team to die but thought it was a good choice. I admit I was getting a bit frustrated with the music and just the little hints of of the music we know so well, so you can imagine the big grin that spread across my face when I finally heard the iconic Star Wars theme at the end. I have always loved Darth Vader and this movie was no different, I felt like this was the Darth Vader we'd always heard about but had never really seen. Sure he'd killed one or two people on screen before and force choked others but the realy menace to me was always just implied. But here we see why everyone is so terrified, that is a baaad sith lord, makes his grandson look even weaker by comparison in TFA. I think I want to see it again with friends.
  5. One thing that jumped out at me was Bow saying that she'd been a mother for 16 years. How old is Zoey supposed to be? If she's graduating in June shouldn't she be at least 17? Sixteen just seems young to be a high school senior.
  6. Thank you for this! I don't watch Arrow at all so don't know who Damien Darhk or Malcolm Merlyn are and am not impressed or surprised or anything when I see them on this show. They just seem like any other random bad guys that chew a lot of scenery. I do know the actors and am glad to see them working but their characters don't mean anything to me on this show.
  7. So what was this mess? Is it supposed to be a mini-series? I'm honestly confused, they're not stopping there are they? It just seemed so rushed and like the producers said let's be sure to get in all the "big events" Anne getting Diana drunk, Marilla's missing brooch, cracking slate over Gilbert's head etc. It was like paint by numbers and I found I didn't care about anyone.
  8. I thought Parlov said that he had a lot of assistants and that he had fired that one. Such a great episode, who would have thought Rosa and Amy would make a good pairing. And I love that Rosa gets her without being mean to her the way Gina is.
  9. Love everyone's comments, my suspension of belief happened with Meet the Browns, a Tyler Perry movie starring Angela Bassett. Now I love Angela Bassett but everytime someone in the film mentioned that young mothers like her need help or are inexperienced it took me right out of the movie considering Ms. Bassett was 50 years old at the time. I know she looks good for her age but come on.
  10. I still haven't warmed up to Miguel he always seems to 'light up' whenever it appears Jack has made a mistake with Rebecca. But I wonder if Jack's death wasn't sudden but some kind of terminal illness and he asked Miguel to take care of Rebecca or let it be known that he knew about Miguel's feelings and gives his blessing for Miguel to pursue Rebecca. Curious to see how it plays out.
  11. I love this movie. But I always thought Fernand actually got the girl because she realized she was pregnant and thought Edmund was dead. Not saying he wasn't horrible, because he was, but I don't give him all the credit for that one.
  12. That's what was making me crazy seveneightnine I didn't see the recap so I thought I 'd missed another week.
  13. I thought I was doing a good job of keeping up with the episodes but this week just totally confused me. So PBS has episode 6 up. But everyone seems to still be talking about last weeks episode. So this week was the very sad break up of Dwight and Caroline and finding out who the informer was etc. So is this episode 6 or 7?
  14. Finally finished watching the entire season on Netflix and really liked this season so much better than the first. This was a great cliff hanger and am glad this show has already been renewed. I will be sad if Nyx is dead but the android was behaving as if she was dead, making no attempts to revive her or get her to medical. And was it just me or did the android look a bit angry? I'm more worried about Five being with Truffaut (?) than I am about the rest of the crew being dead, that woman can be evil. But when are people going to stop underestimating Five?
  15. I think Mandy Moore is an attractive person but not beautiful. I don't hate anyone on the show, sometimes one or two characters annoy me but I don't hate anyone...yet.
  16. Like everyone else, I really loved this episode even though I'm not a big Gina fan. But they had me at the cold open with Hitchcock's "no more alimony baby", the delivery just cracked me up.
  17. I don't watch a lot of mash-ups so I loved this one, it was a lot of fun.
  18. I totally get this, every time I saw her in her flats it seemed very realistic but it took me out of the scene for a minute. After all, she's not a twenty-something to be running around the city in heels but the aesthetic is not what we as a viewing audience are used to. It made me laugh every time I saw it.
  19. I thought at the time the issue was that the McKay character changed from who he was originally on SG-1 and the relationship Ford and Sheppard were supposed to have became the relationship between McKay and Sheppard. Ronin wasn't brought in to replace Ford, McKay did that and they just wrote out the actor. Also, it was mentioned that the actor was becoming difficult and unreliable so the desire to write the character out.
  20. Finally saw this over the weekend and absolutely loved it! Like everyone above stated the CGI was incredible. At certain points I was thinking what parent allowed their child to act with these animals, then I remembered. I haven't seen the animated Jungle Book since I was a little kid and had no real recollections of what it was all about so imagine my delight when Bare Necessities came in and I was five years old all over again. Idris Elba bought real menace to his role as did Scarlett Johansen. Great movie even through to the closing credits.
  21. Okay, I just watched this again last weekend and I did not suspect this at all. Is this more heavily implied in the book? This thought just never occurred to me.
  22. Are we sure Peri's likely earlier rape and then murder are related? I haven't seen every episode this season, but was it established that the director is connected to the circle? I agree with a poster above that I also wish TPTB had let Adrian and Evelyn go their separate ways and stay apart. I liked seeing Evelyn with the Reverend and wish there was more there than her just missing the excitement and craziness that comes with Adrian.
  23. Do people hate this movie? Or is that the "science" is just too dumb to believe? I love it! I will also watch it whenever it's on.
