Honestly Ravens, you have ONE job...
  2. There's a low carb thread in the Health & Wellness forum...

If only I could like this post an infinite number of times...
  4. My favorite segment of the evening. Not a false note and I loved all the participants. All in all, an entertaining evening. I'm still not sure that a couple of the honorees should be honorees, but no one asked me. What I really want is an annotated list of audience members. Some of them were quite entertaining (and I think I saw Cal Ripken!).
  5. Meryl Streep singing along to the theme song of The Jeffersons - gold! Norman Lear is a mensch.
  6. I enjoyed the cast of On Your Feet. Also fun seeing some of the audience members bopping in their seats. I'm really only watching because it's what I do. I've found it hard to get excited over the honoree list this year.

OMG, @mojoween, I'm so very sorry. My sincerest condolences to you and your family.
  8. I love Paul Shaffer, but I'm going with A. Especially since the woman behind the counter seems so surprised, then happy that there is actually a woman in line at the end.
  9. Speaking of sweet potato and apple gratin, I've been making this since I got the magazine in 1982. The magazine has the butter at 1 stick, not 6T. Also, I've never used the chestnuts, just the potatoes and apples. (And I may have over-measured the rum part...) I use a 13x9 pyrex pan for this as I take it to the in-laws for dinner. Love the pyrex that comes with the pan top and hot/cold carrier! https://fairshares.org/recipes/rum-glazed-sweet-potato-apple-chestnut-gratin
  10. Could have been cardboard. I love your theories on how they got out there. I'm guessing someone helped them walk/slide out and then they got on the (card)board and stood there supporting each other...way more boring than flippering :-)
  11. I thought overall, the show was okay. But for some reason, I really enjoyed it. Love the Foos! Love the ice rink at the end - the skaters and Leslie and Cecily, joined by Melissa (?) standing on the board leaning on each other. Merry Happy everyone!!
  12. I love the Ghirardelli assortment bags at Costco. I really love the Lindor ball assortment bags at Costco. Really. Lindt makes fabulous stuff.
  13. We have a couple of 1 liter kettles. We travel with one, alone with a folding filter basket that will go over a coffee cup. That way, we can get coffee we like and make our own coffee in hotels since the "free" coffee in the room usually sucks. I would love some recommendations for rubber spatulas. I've found they don't actually make "rubber" spatulas anymore (I loved my Rubbermaid ones). The ones I've been using have started (or finished) falling apart. I see silicone seems to be the thing, but I want to make sure they're flexible enough to get all the stuff out of the bowls, but it's hard to tell from the Amazon descriptions. So if you have a favorite brand, I'd appreciate it.

    Just kill me now.
  15. The ET interview was great...until the part about Rosa and Gina. No. Just no.
  16. I agree with all of this except the last point. I wasn't embarrassed by his plugging the movie. I just think that's the way the business operates. And he didn't seem to have any issues with it. (And I've heard really great things about it, to the point where I actually might leave my house to go see it. Might...) I do think the opening might have been way better if a couple of the kids had been better. I felt bad for them, but maybe they needed a bit more rehearsal or something. Most of them were spot on, the the writing worked well for them.
  17. Tonight, I had almonds and Merlot. And now, for dessert, I'm having Merlot. It's been that kind of day.

And I happened to tune in a few weeks ago for the last 2 innings of my birthday game...the one we won with a walk-off Machado Grand Slam. So I now have the best part for posterity! I need to watch more carefully at some point to see if we're on camera since I sprung for good seats that night.
  19. I thought this show was delightful! While I've seen "Went With the Wind" many times, it's never not hilarious!! And I hadn't seen many of the sketches shown tonight for a long time, so I was laughing a lot. Even the current guest spots weren't as cringe-inducing as they could have been (although I do agree about Beth and Kaley - why were they there??). And it's so nice to see so many folks still around - Steve Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner and Bob Mackie!
  20. Thanks. I tried to do a little research before I posted and read that there was often a Mass attached to it, so I extrapolated... I shouldn't do that...
  21. Well, no one actually "has" to be bar/bat mitzvahed, boy or girl. When I was bat mitzvahed, back in the stone age, it was still sorta new that most girls were having one. But still - not required. However, if you do have one, it's about the religious ceremony. Not the party. So the choice of a bat mitzvah or a sweet sixteen seems like a false choice - to me anyway. She could have been bat mitzvahed without the party, then party at sixteen...if that's what she wanted. As I said, if you want to be a debutante, or have a sweet sixteen, or any of that, it's fine. Do what you want. I just don't see the comparison to the religious part.
  22. I have no opinion of debuts or sweet sixteen parties. If that's what you want, go for it. As a formerly observant Jew (now a cultural Jew, or "Jew-lite" as my sister says) I do quibble with your comparison to bar/bat mitzvahs and quinceanaras, as both of those are (allegedly) religious ceremonies. I realize that not all youngins have to have them, but that's what they are rooted in. The parties are just an incredibly ostentatious extension of the religious ceremony.
  23. It does work! Thanks for sharing that lovely picture and the story.
  24. I started on Team Bobby, but moved on to Team David. I was young and undecided. This makes me sad...
