I grew up in an apartment and Halloween was the best! We could wear the greatest costumes because we didn't have to go outside and bother about coats. And we got enough candy (157 units!) to last almost the whole year. It was fabulous!! Now, I take my best friend out to dinner since her birthday is Halloween. So I still win! And with a 7 game Series, we all win!!

I have to say that the only good thing about losing power and having to turn on the radio was listening to the radio and not Buck. I like the ESPN booth;.

All In With Chris Hayes - General Discussion
ebk57 replied to David T. Cole's topic in All In With Chris Hayes
Honestly, his mouth moves, but what comes out of it is gibberish. The only thing going through my mind is he's batshit crazy. -
I was listening to the game on my phone. Then the cable came back on just in time for the end! Then it went out again. It's like fate ... or something ? At least the power is back on. Oh, and I love baseball!!

This is insane. Fun, but insane And our power just went out. Dammit

Oh, I haven't looked up at my TV yet. Have they finally embraced the potato? Ah... these are the throwback unis. Or as some like to call them, the thowup unis...

I am entertained. And since I'm fine with whichever team wins, I'm hoping for 7 games. Especially since my best friend's birthday is on Halloween and I'm taking her out to dinner and I don't want to miss the last game!

Jon Batiste on Face the Nation this morning talking about his re-imagining of Battle Hymn of the Republic. It was a good interview. Now I need to watch the extended half hour version that's about halfway down the page. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/late-shows-jon-batiste-on-his-reinterpretation-of-the-battle-hymn-of-the-republic/

I think if they tried to suspend him now, the appeal could drag on past the end of the series. This way, they have an agreement in place and he's suspended without pay. I think Hinch should sit him down for a game though. Which won't happen. Shallow note - I like what Big Papi and Big Hurt are wearing tonight. I don't know why, but I do.

I've been craving Chinese food for a couple of weeks, so tonight I went to the local place we frequented in the past. And I will not be going back there again. Which is a shame...it used to be so good. I had veggie spring rolls and not-crispy-at-all crispy beef. Ah well...

Let's just say it's on my TV because I don't want to have anything on that I have to pay attention to. And let's just say that the Dolphins should have to forfeit this game...dammit. (yeah, I know, I'm overreacting)

In Memoriam: Entertainment Industry Celebrity Deaths
ebk57 replied to Kromm's topic in Everything Else TV
This brought tears. What a fabulous show Sports Night was. And what a fabulous actor Mr. Guillaume was. This gave me a chill. You're so lucky to have seen that. I saw him at the National Theatre in Guys and Dolls when I was in college... and I promptly quit school and got a job at said theatre. Okay, I quite the next year, but I did get a job at the National. And that show was probably the one that made me realize I didn't want to be in school at that moment, I just wanted to work. (I went back and got a degree later. And I worked at the National for the next 35 years. So it all worked out.) -
In Memoriam: Those We Have Lost from the Music Industry

I got this tribute album of Fats covers mostly because of Robert Plant, but the whole album is quite good. It was done to help Fats after Hurricane Katrina. It's called Goin' Home, A Tribute to Fats Domino. (Sorry the first video I posted didn't take...) -
The show is fabulous!! I laughed pretty much non-stop until Jimmy Walker's bit. And then I laughed, just not as hard. I especially liked John Mulaney, which surprised me only because I don't know him all that well, but I thought he was really funny, and sincere. I loved Steve Martin and Jimmy Kimmel and Dave's shrink. She was a little awkward getting off stage after she was done. I wonder if that makes the broadcast. When Martin Short came on to do his song, I wondered whether he and Paul would come to blows because they had to start the song again since Martin was off the beat. Paul blames Martin. Martin blamed Paul. Then Paul just apologized and said let's start over. Since I was in the second balcony, I couldn't tell if this was all in good fun, or if they were really mad at each other. If it makes the broadcast, we'll know it was a joke... And the song was only okay. I also didn't love Bill Murray's bit as much as the newspapers did. At this point, I'm blaming the second balcony seat. I was happy about Michelle Obama's video tribute, and Eddie Vetter singing Warren Zevon made me tear up. My seat was in a good place to watch Dave and family throughout the evening. So that worked out. He was funny while shouting down to the stage a few times during the evening. When Dave took the stage, he did mention Tommy Robato (sp?) who was the kid sitting next to Harry during the last Late Show. So I'm guessing that the entourage is made up of a lot of the same kids. Also, here's a link to the local radio station coverage of the red carpet (I couldn't get close enough to actually see any of the people in the hallway... poor planning on my part, I guess). Dave mentions Harry being backstage with his cousins. There are a whole bunch of interviews in the link. It was amusing to hear the reporters ask the same question from every guest. Well, amusing for the first 3 or 4 times. Then it was annoying. https://wtop.com/entertainment/2017/10/no-joke-tv-host-letterman-honored-with-mark-twain-prize/slide/1/ After the show, I walked past Senator Franken and almost stopped to offer my appreciation of everything he's doing, but chickened out. He seemed happy to talk to anyone who wanted to chat. I took a couple of pics from my seat after the show was over, but since I was so far away, I enjoy them, but you all probably wouldn't. All in all, a fine time was had by me. I can't wait to see the broadcast and I hope I'll be able to figure out what's missing. The evening ran about 2:20, so I'm sure some of it will be cut. I do apologize for the run-on paragraph and disorganized thoughts. Writing isn't one of my strengths.

Kimmel in Brooklyn week! Paul is a bit manic... and a cameo by Biff!!

Hi Mark. I think this is something that should fall in the Small (Coffee) Talk thread. Although if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will jump in to correct me. Welcome!

I'm sorry, but that home run was nothing like the Kirk Gibson home run in 1988. Nothing. And on a totally shallow note, I'm not really into Mr. Turner's hair. At all.
-
Not the only one. I can enjoy him because he's on the other side of the country playing for a team I rarely watch. So when I see him, I smile.
-
Wow. That was some really good luck at play in that game... (yay!)
-
You are not the only one. I thought maybe it was my old eyes. Now, I can tell you the number next to the Astros is 1. Yay! OMG, I'm having a Jeffrey Maier flashback nightmare...

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
ebk57 replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
The thing that makes me nutz is when the waitron tells him they don't have tater tots, he subs in nachos. That is not a side dish!! You have to sub in fries. Not nachos!! Okay, I feel better. A little.
