Tonight, I went to a new venue downtown, The Anthem. The place is gorgeous and the parking situation isn't even too terrible. I may go back. Opening act was Cris Jacobs, a local guy from up the street in Baltimore. Really good. Some people around me said he plays a lot of local venues here, so I'll be on the lookout. Then, there was Sturgill Simpson. I love Sturgill. First time I've seen him live and he's unbelievable. Then, Willie Nelson. What can you say about Willie that hasn't already been said. The whole evening was spectacular!!

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

This came up in my inbox this morning, so I thought I'd share... Drive safely over this long weekend everyone! https://wtop.com/dc-transit/2018/05/in-heavy-traffic-the-preferred-way-to-merge-is-to-wait-until-late/ -
Holy shit. I'll miss those Choking Dogs...

I saw Waitress Saturday. It's the last show at the National for this season. I liked it but if I hadn't seen it, that would have been okay, too. Which brings me to my conundrum - should I renew for next season. The shows coming in are: Beetlejuice, Beautiful, Bronx Tale, Finding Neverland, School of Rock and Bat Out of Hell. I thought, wow, I've not seen any of them, so that would be fun. And then I thought the reason I haven't seen any of them (other than the 2 that haven't graced our stages in the US yet) is that I chose not to see any of them while I was in New York. And seats aren't cheap here. In fact, I could get discount tickets in NY for any of them (except Finding Neverland because it's closed) for less money that I will spend to see them here. I shouldn't renew, right? I can always get a ticket to see just how bad Bat Out of Hell is...

This was perfect. I think I cried through the last half of the show, while I was laughing. Simply beautiful. Thank NBC!!!

Lin-Manuel Miranda!! My night has been made!!!

Got home late. Mr ebk has a show. My SIL called from Australia, so that added another half hour before I could eat. So dinner was peanut butter on Triscuits and a Dogfish Head Bitch's Brew stout. It works.

Weather is, indeed, a huge peeve right now. It's been raining for a week, and will continue into next week. If I wanted to live in rain, I'd live in Seattle, WA, instead of outside Washington DC. I'm going to turn into a giant prune. And... my mother's Sunbeam stand mixer from the 50s is still going strong. The bowl hasn't even broken. I did have to replace the beaters about 35 years ago when I broke a piece of them off in some stiff brownie mix, and those beaters are still fine. They really don't make 'em like they used to. -
That's because you weren't at the ballpark :-) We were hoping we'd get to 20! And, we still made our dinner reservation on time!! Other that the weather, it was a perfect day.

S43.E20: Amy Schumer / Kacey Musgraves

This pretty much sums up the way I feel about the show. It was fine, good stuff, not-so-good stuff, until Last Call, which was great. I even like Kacey Musgraves, but thought she was kinda boring. Everything was juuuust a little off tonight (except Last Call). -
Got a present in the mail yesterday and thought a few folks here might enjoy it Then went to the Os game last night and got this one (and the Os won - they have a mini-win streak going. I'll take it) I think Star Wars day may have jumped the shark... although they are cute.

I love this! I'm way too old to be a fan of the song (although I don't dislike it - it's catchy!), but this is one of my many favorite things from Craig's show. When I saw him at Carnegie Hall, he ended the show with this. Those 2 guys traveled with him to do one number at the end of the evening. Amazing!

I've been to Cincy twice, once to Riverfront Stadium and once to Great American Ballpark (is that still the name?). I'm glad they won't be building another stadium in my lifetime. I've been to Pittsburgh a few times, once to Three Rivers and 2 or 3 times to PNC because it's my favorite "new" stadium (although I will always love Camden Yards the most). Pittsburgh is a fun town, good food and did I mention the great stadium??

Holy moly - the Caps are still playing! And not golf... That was quite an exciting game.

Just got home from seeing Mavis Staples at the Kennedy Center. She's a national treasure, a force of nature and totally amazing!!

My Amazon delivery notice said May 15th too, but it was delivered this morning. It's adorable!! I can't wait to give it to my friend's twins!

S43.E19: Donald Glover / Childish Gambino

So, just now there was an actual porn star on network TV introducing this show. We're truly in Upside Down World... -
Ah, AJ. We were at Target Field in Minneapolis and when AJ came up to bat, a guy about 10 rows behind us yelled "AJ - nobody likes you!!!!!!" Because that's as mean as people in Minneapolis get. So now, whenever anyone mentions AJ, my friend and I have to yell that at each other. And people think we're nutz. Because we probably are. I do like him on the TV. He's funny and seems to know what he's talking about. And with that, we're off to the ballpark. Yesterday it was 80. Today it will be 60 and windy. And my team, well the less said, the better. At least there's dinner to look forward to.

I have tickets for August 10th. We're also seeing Boys In The Band on the 6th. Not sure what I'm doing between Monday and Friday that week, but I have a little time to plan.

Vacations: Where To Go, What To See, Where To Eat
ebk57 replied to tribeca's topic in Everything Else
NYC - the Greatest City in the World!!! Let's see - Midtown... We like Glass House Tavern on 47th. Cafe Un Deux Trois on 44th. Virgil's BBQ on 44th. Marseilles on 44th and 9th. Junior's for dessert on Shubert Alley or the newer one on 7th (?), or is it Broadway around 50th. Esca on 43rd. Joe Allen for the theatre experience on 46th. Right next door is Orso, also fabulous. If you want to venture uptown a bit, Red Farm on Broadway at 76th is my new favorite place to eat. Also uptown is Nice Matin at 79th and Amsterdam. I can think of more places if you need them... Go to a show or twelve!! Have fun!!! -
Too bad that Os-Saux game wasn't postponed...

This so much! I actually miss the last host. Never warmed up to this woman. I'm so happy when the PBS stations in the area aren't in their endless pledge drives because I can turn to the music shows and skip 1st Look! (Not that anyone is forcing me to watch, but...inertia)

Thanks. I was a bit confused (not unusual...). And wow, those Wiki updaters work fast!

Random question - did it sound to anyone else like Darrell Hammond introduced Mulaney as "Mulvaney" at the start of the show?
-
Thoroughly enjoyed this show. I had no idea I was a fan of John Mulaney until I saw him at the Letterman Mark Twain show. He was hilarious. The show tonight was weird and funny. And there was Jack White. Doesn't get much better. I, too, was annoyed that the good nights were cut off. @jjj, if anything happened at the end, please let us know after you watch.
