@mojoween (and any other fans), Bernie Williams doing the intro for Wayne Shorter on the Kennedy Center Awards tonight. You can probably find it online somewhere.

Jon Batiste is a national treasure. Kelly Clarkson is fabulous. "One Last Time" never fails to make me tear up. And Cher - she was so into the whole evening, it was heartwarming. With all that to work with, it's too bad the show was kinda bland.

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
ebk57 replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
I just googled bitchy waiter and I think the website is thebitchywaiter.com -
I like Dogfish Head Indian Brown, Cigar City Maduro Brown, and Rogue Hazlenut Brown. I've seen recommended for those who like brown ales: Abita Turbodog and Sam Smith Nut Brown. Good luck!

I've always enjoyed yours, and in my head, I still looks forward to "InvaderNorbert's" recaps! :-) -

Agree with all of this. Thoroughly enjoyed this episode, even the silly stuff. And I love that you couldn't tell that the Google phone ad was actually an ad. I recognized the Streisand Jingle Bells immediately, being a Jewish girl who loves Christmas songs! I think my favorite sketch tonight was Westminster Daddy Show. It started the show off on a high note, and fortunately, the show didn't let up. ETA: Mr ebk said something about double stick tape, then thought perhaps it was a hot glue gun since they work so much better... Merry Christmas everyone!! And thanks for doing these recaps every week @Galileo908 - they are much appreciated!! -
He did. It's all good. Everyone can relax now... https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2018/12/12/steph-curry-says-he-was-joking-about-not-believing-moon-landing-everything-is-fine/?utm_term=.cf9fdc6ce9a5

I always think of these commercials when I'm at Shea Stadium (or now, Citi Field although I'm not sure it's the same flight path) and a plane takes off from LaGuardia and flies over the field.

Yes! And I also watched the Sports Machine! Plus the basketball show Tony did with David DuPree and other people on channel 4 during the season. Thank goodness channel 4 still does the Sunday-After-The-News sports roundup show, because the other stations ditched it a few years ago.

As a side note, Cooke managed to convince the Post Office to rename that part of Landover "Raljohn" after his kids, Ralph and John. The locals did not appreciate that. Tony Kornheiser always said it was a good thing his kids were not named Peter and Ennis. The area is again Landover.

S44.E08: Jason Momoa / Mumford & Sons
ebk57 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
I liked the open, even with De Niro having his usual issues with line readings. I loved Big Boy Appliances. And I thought Them Trumps was fabulous. WU was pretty good. I liked Che getting a segment. And the Kevin Hart short joke. Otherwise... not great. Oh yes... Mumford and Sons are great. -
I enjoyed this, on the whole. I thought Claire was good and game for anything. Loved her at Katty Kay at the end of the MJ sketch just saying anything. I also liked Anderson.Paak. I heard him on NPR last week (forgot which show) and he seems like a good guy. And did I mention how much I loved that last song? I loved it.

The Christmas Song is brilliant.

That was a lovely piece. She does look happy. It was all good until the mention of Joe running for president in 2020. Oy vey...

What New Foods Have You Tried?: Like It? Hate It? Share Here!
ebk57 replied to WendyCR72's topic in Food & Drink
I never liked sweet mixing with my fried chicken. I'd tried chicken and waffles a couple of times and...eh. However, I was in NY in August and went to Spoonfed on 51st street and...wow! I now "get" chicken and waffles. It was spectacular!! As was the rest of the food there. And the service is so welcoming. So if you're in NY for brunch, check it out. Or for any other meal - it's just that they only serve chicken and waffles for brunch. -
This! I've been trying to figure out how to word my response to the "hate watching" post (I hate-watched Smash because it so deserved it!), so thanks for doing it so nicely!! And thanks for your original post about this, too.

It's a lovely place. I was going to pay actual money to go to this thing (I'm a member of the museum), but since it's on a Wednesday and I'm incredibly lazy, I decided not to. Then sis came to the rescue! I feel ignorant, but where is the Baltimore Sports Hall of Fame? I should go there...

So tomorrow evening I'm going to the Babe Ruth Museum's reunion of the 1983 Os. Because I have nothing else going on in my life. And my sister works for one of the event sponsors, so I don't have to pay. It'll be fun... Brooks will be there. It has to be fun.

I went to see this today. It's...sweet. A life-affirming coming-of-age story with bright, poppy songs. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon, especially for movie prices (and not theatre prices...)

Late Night With Seth Meyers - General Discussion
ebk57 replied to Words's topic in Late Night With Seth Meyers
I've been enjoying this show in podcast form. They usually put up the Closer Look (or whatever the bit after the monologue is), then one of the guest interviews. After that, a staff person does an "in-depth" piece with that guest that's podcast-only material. So if I fall asleep before the actual show is on, I can listen at work. Very thoughtful of them! Also, they've sent out a few podcasts called "Midterm Cram" which consisted of a couple of staffers and an political guest trying to make sense of the senseless world we're in at the moment. I enjoyed those. -
Loved the Off-Broadway sketch! Also loved the Dem mid-term ad (even though it hits close to my feelings). Mr ebk came home from work during the fallen teacher sketch, so I missed it, and from reading here, I won't bother to go back and watch. I also thought the musical guest started out sounding reeeeally bad, so stopped paying attention to her. Overall, the show was fine. A bit better than the shows so far, but just okay.

If the Dodgers had won, would the MVP truck have been blue? That was a nice looking vehicle!
