  1. Saw "Dave" the musical tonight at Arena Stage. A totally charming show - just like the movie. The updates to the book work really well. The staging on the tiny Kreeger stage was amazing. The cast it pitch perfect. The songs are... fine. Not bad, but not memorable. I don't think I'll be buying the cast recording. However, I would see it again in NY if there are discounts, if only to see if anything is changed. It's a very enjoyable night.
  2. Damn. I have theatre tickets tomorrow night, so I'm busy this weekend. Poor planning on someone's part...

Farewell Manny! It was a great time and I hope he has good luck out there. I wonder if he'll sign long-term or if this is truly a rental.

Oddly enough, as I was driving home from the stadium Sunday, I wondered if Manny Machado and Adam Jones had already taken pictures for next year's Os pet calendar. Adam has the best dogs. Oh, and I'm quite enjoying how charming Mike Trout is tonight
  5. I dd see Sound City - really interesting. Dave and the Foos also did a series on HBO a couple (or so) years ago called Sonic Highways. They went to 8 (I think) cities and hung out with local musicians, then wrote a song that was supposed to give you a feeling for the local music scene. It was fun.
  6. Foo Fighters ARE awesome!! I'd never seen them before and they put on a great, energetic 2 1/2 hour extravaganza. All the hits, and a few songs off the newest album. I must say I was glad I bought the $5 earplugs or I would have been completely deaf by the end of the show since my seat was right in line with one of the speaker towers. I'd definitely see them again, and there's a good chance I'll have the opportunity since Dave is from the area. Completely shallow observations - Dave's hair is looking much better. Nice and curly. And, his favorite word seems to be "motherfucker" :-) A fine time was had by all!
  7. I grew up watching Max Robinson anchoring the news here in DC (along side Gordon Peterson, and Warner Wolf doing sports). I was sad when he left the local station, but was glad he got the national gig. And then, devastated when he died. Thanks for posting this.
  8. We had a Zenith console black and white TV growing up. It had a remote - 5 buttons that corresponded to 5 channels, but my dad never bothered putting batteries in it, so it just sat in the holder on the front of the TV. When that TV died, dad bought a portable black and white (another Zenith!), and put it on top of the console, so out TV table was actually a TV. That piece of furniture, emptied of the tubes and other workings, is in the basement right now. My sister keeps claiming she wants it, but we have yet to figure out how to get it to her. Or maybe we're not really trying. I bought my first color TV at Kmart to watch Gone With the Wind when it was first broadcast. A 13 inch set that weighed a about a million pounds. It lasted a really long time, long enough to take it and set it up in my office at the theatre, then when we got a new one there, to take it upstairs so the ushers could enjoy it. Now we have TVs in the living room, the bedroom, the upstairs office and the kitchen. Mr ebk keeps threatening to put one in the bathroom, but so far hasn't actually done it. Let's keep it that way.
  9. Merriweather Post Pavilion between DC and Baltimore. I like Sheryl, too, but not as much as Mr ebk does! :-) Foo Fighters also at Merriweather. I'll post a review. Thanks for asking!
  10. I did! What a fantastic show. The fiddle player from his band, Seth Lakeman, opened the show. He's wonderful. Then we had Sheryl Crow do a set. She's...Sheryl. Then Robert and the band. Oh my. A good mix of Zep and new songs. Robert in find 'Plantation" form. He's a funny guy. And did I mention the Sensational Space Shifters are phenomenal? Because they are. Mr ebk kept saying that while driving home - "that band is phenomenal!" A fine time was had by all! Friday night, I'm going to see Foo Fighters! Looking forward to it.
  11. The less said about the team, the better. Although, they did win today, so...yay
  12. We went to our new favorite restaurant in Baltimore after the game, Marie Louise Bistro. I had the house salad, then sauteed chicken breasts with artichoke hearts and sundried tomatoes over couscous. Then a lemon meringue tart for dessert. All with a lovely rose from Provence. Next game in 2 weeks. Looking forward to dinner already!
  13. We used to stay at Little Inn by the Sea for spring training right around there. Loved that place!! (sorry this was off-topic - I'll bow out now...)

Is that the game on August 4th? I'm planning on going. And waiting to get tickets on Stubhub when they hit around $5.
  15. The best version of "Come Sail Away" ever! (I also have a soft spot for Styx and I have no idea why other than "the music of my misspent youth" or something)

My first thought was that his daughter was absolutely adorable. Then you crushed me with the caption...
  19. I can't decide if this is charming or not. However, I think I'll stick to my original plan and go to the Mets game on August 4th - for the bobblehead, of course.
  20. He is a sometime co-host of the Tony Kornheiser podcast. We, on the TK message board, often mock him for being born on third base and thinking he hit a triple. When he's not on the show, he's traveling the world so he can regale us with his stories when he's on. Oh joy... His mom is Maureen Orth. She writes/wrote for...something. And hi everyone. I lurk here all the time, but don't post since I actually never watch the show (only catch a glimpse sometimes when Mr. ebk is watching), I don't feel qualified to post. But thanks for the amusement!!
  21. Enjoy the show tonight everyone. Sorry I won't be around, but I'm seeing The Scottsboro Boys at Signature Theatre tonight and am really looking forward to it.

Worse that that, I think they're doomed because TK has now said "the era of the Choking Dogs is over." Which can't be good... ;-)

Weather-wise, I'm terrible. I'll be totally pruned by the time it stops raining. Team-wise... maybe it can keep raining for the rest of the summer. Seriously, Ellicott City is about 15 miles north of my house. It's a long way, and yet, not that far. And the second time in two years they've had the Thousand Year Flood. Ugh. Thanks for asking. I appreciate it.

Well, at least the Caps won't be swept again... ;-)
