  1. Same for me - at least based on my music preferences. Sadly, many stations (both music and talk on both AM & FM) went to either sports radio or Mexican music. How much sports radio does one need? When I first moved here, there was plenty of variety - especially Doo-Wop/50s music to enjoy. I'm too young for the original era but I love it! One of the AM stations used to replay old radio shows from the 40s and 50s ("it was from a canned feed called, "When Radio Was") which really gave me a better understanding of entertainment in the theatre of the mind (other than books of course!). There was a good oldies station that used to play lots of 50s music but now barely plays any music from the 50s at all - and skipped straight to the period between 1965 to 1975. While there's plenty to like in that era - it's repetitive. Not to mention way too much focus on The Beatles (part of their slogan brags they play mmore Beatles than anyone else - whoopee!). No one had the thought to play b-sides or "lost gold" either. I swear the playlist is on a loop because I hear the same songs in the some order on my way to work as I do coming home! I'm also a talk radio junkie but many of those stations dropped their formats (especially on weekends) to air medical talk (with "Dr. So & So'), Real Estate talk (boring!), and financial talk (even more boring!). I thank my iPod Nano for at least playing some obscure stuff that breaks up the monotony. Being a native New Yorker, I really miss the old WCBS-FM (101 FM). The one I grew up with played Doo Wop and all sorts of music up to about 1976 (this being the 1980s when I used to listen most). They had great DJs (Like Cousin Brucie, Norm N. Knight, Max Kinkle, et al), Top 40 countdown on weekends from that day and year (May 3, 1966 for example) and you'd heard not just some of the hits you knew, but more obscure tunes and songs that "bubbled under" the top 40. A lot of old rare records went into those shows! In the 90s or so (early '00s?) The station went to an automated format (sort of like "Bob") and played top 40 and listeners went nuts! I remember the news went national because the DJs weren't even notified of the change. I they got rid of "Bob" eventually, and I went to listen to it live online but the station just isn't the same anymore - the damage was done IMO.
  2. Sorry to hear about that. Have you tried coconut oil? That stuff is great for skin - moisturizing and even healing. It's one of nature's anti-virals. I use Vita Coco brand but most any brand will work as long as it's virgin (not processed, and is a white solid until it reaches 76F or higher). I myself used it on bug bites and the itch disappeared immediately! Maharincess, Lordonia, I'm sorry about your dental woes. May I also suggest this book which offers lots of advice on how to protect your teeth (in some cases, they say it's better NOT to see the dentist!) .
  3. I've seen this sort of arrogance with various skilled types - for the longest time it was common in doctors and lawyers. Some doctors feel superior because they studied medicine and supposedly have the power to cure or kill you (actually, so do pharmacists!). Lawyers feel superior since they can get you in and out of trouble due to their knowledge of the law - If they're prosecutors, they are smug about how they'll indict the proverbial ham sandwich. Defense attorneys brag how they can get you off - and you can't likely do it on your own.
  4. Don't take this lying down Petunia13! I'd report that person immediately. That attitude is unacceptable! Maybe she needs a reminder of how people with better attitudes are more likely to keep their jobs. If this is something she regularly does, there is probably a record of complaints. If not - it could be a wakeup call for her.
  5. This could be interesting if Charlie is reunited with his family. I remember the TV movie, "I Know My First Name Is Steven" about a real life case in which a boy is kidnapped at age 7 and comes back to his family nearly a decade later. The movie explored how the little boy they knew was gone and there was a lot of clashing since Steven had a loose upbringing (not to mention having been molested for most of that time) and he eventually moved out. I can see Charlie's life on the street and independence causing friction for the family.
  6. Please be careful. You don't have to like or vote for Trump, but keep in mind he is being protected by the Secret Service for the duration and a post like that can be seen as a potential threat. As for Kitty Kelly, I never took much stock in her work. I was so sorry to hear about Frank, Jr. however! Tunia, cool story! My parents remembered his infamous kidnapping case back in the 60s.
  7. So glad to be able to talk abut this show again! I watched YJ during its initial run on CN until it was unceremoniously dumped by the network and the majority of the DC Nation block scrapped. What annoyed me most was the fact it was dropped just as Darkseid was to be introduced! This could potentially be rectified. The show is currently available on Netflix and it's been reported that Netflix will consider reviving the show if there's enough interest. Here is one of several YT videos reporting on the news. If Full House can be brought back (Fuller House anyone?) this show could have a shot. Bring Back Young Justice!
  8. My guess is he was at a friend's house or part of some recreational activity when the invasion happened. They showed the kids near the Santa Monica Pier, so I don't think it's too far fetched to think he went with some friends (perhaps those who were with him in the scene) to play and got stuck.
  9. Found myself introduced to some lost gold: Maynard Ferguson - "MacArthur Park" (1974) = Someone said to me if I wanted to know good Jazz (besides Dave Brubeck) - to check this tune out. I've gained a new respect for the genre. Frankie Lane - Seven Days Of Love (1965) - I couldn't sleep one night and found myself watching GET-TV. They were airing a rerun of the Merv Griffin Show from 1965. Frankie was on that night singing this tune - but it was arranged more like L-O-V-E (by Frank Sinatra or Nat King Cole). He said it was in the top ten in So. Cal (regional hit) but was hoping it'd go national. Seems that didn't happen since 1965 was a banner year for great music and this one was another that got lost in the shuffle. Chuck Sedacca - "I Don't Wanna Know" (1962) He was a singer-songwriter (who coincidentally wrote "Seven Days of Love"). Unfortunately he and his family were tragically killed in a car accident in 1967.
  10. She was adopted by The Matthews: Her adoptive dad was a firefighter and her mom a homemaker. I don't recall their first names though. After they died in the car accident (Paige was 16 I think), her Aunt Julie and Uncle Dave raised her until she moved out on her own. We see Paige talking via telephone with her uncle in "Charmed Again". I agree we should have met her aunt and uncle since she did stay in touch with them - but the writers were infamous for forgetting the details of their own world building.
  11. Blame Frank Lloyd Wright. He pioneered the concept. He found Victorian floorplans too confining.
  12. I always thought it was a Brooklyn thing. My family was from there and "Kiddo" was my childhood nickname. Dad still used it on me up until his passing. I never thought it was used further west than NJ!
  13. I was reminded of an angry moment when re-watching the classic film, "The Women" (1939): Mary Haines is married to a man who ultimately cheats on her with a shop girl named Crystal (played by Joan Crawford, no less!) and she leaves for Reno for a divorce. Mary doesn't want to divorce her husband, but due to her man's infidelity and the scandal it caused (being they were in high society circles and it being reported in the papers) she goes anyway. The whole time she is optimistic her husband will call her back. She is scolded by Miriam (Paulette Goddard) for abandoning her husband and leaving him into the clutches of Crystal. The divorce goes through 6 weeks later (no fault divorce didn't exist at the time and a trip to Reno was the fastest option back then) and on the final day, Mary finally gets a call from her ex - to tell her he married the other woman earlier that day. It is still made to look like it's Mary's fault! She's accused of having too much pride and that's why she lost her hubby. I'm sorry but Mary IMO didn't do anything wrong (except not giving a royal beating to Crystal when they met up at a fashion show). She wasn't cheating on her husband, her husband didn't seem to care about their marriage or their daughter and married that whore who he'd known less than a year. Mary did one of two things a woman at that time could have done - sucked it up and let her husband play around on her, or leave. Then she happily takes her hubby back at the very end - but only because Crystal was cheating on him with someone else. I know some of it could be chalked up to the times, but even my traditional upbringing couldn't make sense of this.
  14. Several years ago, I had a similar incident occur. I was on my way to work (I work grave so it's about 12:30am) when I noticed on my left was the rear end of a car. My first thought was, "That's not right!" Suddenly, this car that was driving backwards passes me and gets in the lane ahead of me and positions himself sideways as if waiting for me to T-bone him. I slammed on the brakes and stopped just in time. I realized it was an NHP car (Nevada Hwy Patrol) which, promptly left the scene at the next exit. To this day I don't know if the incident was a true near accident, or if the trooper was trying to set me up somehow. It seemed very strange.
  15. If you would like to get some additional reviews of various workout DVDs may I suggest Dysfunctional Parrot. Canadian office worker and family man by day, fitness buff by night! He's reviewed honestly the best known workouts by just trying them out himself.
  16. Personally, I wouldn't go to Mexico at all - period! Too darn dangerous! Second, I wouldn't drive in Mexico - again - too dangerous. Touristas make great victims of the drug gangs and assorted banditos. If you insist on vacationing there stay in the most guarded and safest resorts and set up transportation through them.
  17. No need. Just refusing his advances is enough at this point. I get the felling however that your body is all he wants. He's all touchy feely (based on your accounts) with you when you're together and keeps trying to kiss you . It comes across to me as a bit "high school" in his demeanor. I'm with KnoxForPres on this one - any commitment talk needs to come from HIM. The guy knows when he's ready for exclusivity and will take it up with you when that time comes. Most women want to be exclusive yesterday. It's just our natures. Guys start feeling trapped when women start inquiring about "the talk". Guys will tell you they're ebola free if it means getting' some! I suggest you get some Airbourne to help fight the cold (I love it!) and I recommend this recipe to help boost immunity all year long.
  18. I don't think you have to have grown up with it to like it. I saw I it in my 20s and I loved the Looney Toons style antics when the bandits got theirs!
  19. I've always liked this Jim Croce tune. It does turn up when the stations start playing 24/7 Christmas tunes.
  20. Science isn't about consensus - it's about provable facts. It was a consensus which established the world was flat, or that the sun revolved around the Earth. They always were. I find it interesting how Trump seems to have the network by the shorthairs. The minute anyone at FNC turns on him in their coverage, they get splatted. I remember Trump was actively boycotting the network after they turned on him. Considering the attention (and ratings) he brought to F&F (phoners every Monday) and other various interviews with other FNC figures, it didn't take long for Ailes and/or Murdoch to make nice with him rather quickly.
  21. I always thought they were toys that came from corporations and turned up at Toys R Us.
  22. Early episodes of "The Avengers" (pre - Diana Rigg) tended to put me to sleep.
  23. Xmas has arrived... sort of. The one radio station that goes 24 hour Christmas music began this week - not even waiting until after Thanksgiving. Dish beat them by 2 weeks - having their holiday music channels up on the guide. At least it improves the local airplay. I love Dish's Holiday Traditions channel - Thanks to their playlist I found out about a collection of Christmas martini music!!
  24. Based on what we saw with Biff's ancestor, Mad Dog Tannen, it seems anger and violence are a family trait.
  25. I remember this film fondly. It could be interesting to bring it to weekly TV, but I hope they don't screw up the music and borrow from various genres as much as much as they borrowed from different decades of fashion and settings in the film. I thought the same but my mind went to the film, "The Covenant". Plus there turned out to be 5 witch boys. I would tweak the premise so that using their powers too much wouldn't necessarily be "addictive". "I Am Number Four" played out like a pilot TV movie so I could see that as a series as long as it builds everything up properly and leads to the ultimate climax of the alien kids defeating the bad guys who took over their planet. "Sky High" was also a likeable film and I could definitely see it done as a lighthearted weekly series. Plenty of opportunities for heroes, villians, guest stars (Lynda Carter as Principal Powers!! Bruce Campbell as gym teacher, Boomer) and of course, superpowers and living up to being a "super". "Fletch" is another film I always thought would have made a good TV series. "K-9" I think could have worked if the writing and casting of the character of Matt Dooley (Jim Belushi's character in the film) was done correctly. There was a pilot made back in the early 90s but it was a virtual remake of the big screen version and they recast Dooley with an actor who didn't fit. "Kuffs" also had potential I thought. A snarky but resourceful private cop who takes over his brother's police force and stumbles into trouble in SF. He would do quite a bit of asides to the viewer, but in the film, it was part of the charm.
