  1. It depends on why he's at home. Is it due to financial reasons (divorce is expensive and he probably lost the house anyway) or had he never left home? I also don't put everything on "chemistry". I agree with the recent online dating commercial (Zoosk?) in which love doesn't come first, first there's like. Too many people get passed over in favor of imagined romance and non stop heart thumps when they don't seem to consider if they like someone or feel comfortable with them. I guess that makes me Miss Boring because I'd definitely have ended the date the minute he took to the field naked. Probably would have taken a cab home too - since he probably would have been in jail by that point.
  2. This can be tough when it comes to comic adaptations - certain things you expect to see (Clark meets Lois Lane and works at the Daily Planet, Bruce Wayne loses his parents, Peter Parker's main squeeze was Mary Jane Watson but had other girlfriends before and after meeting her) so it can be tough picking and choosing what part of the mythos to keep and which to change or update. I thought it was great they used Gwen for the second round of Spiderman films since she did exist before MJ did. I had a hunch - what's another alt-universe right? Worst idea ever? How about remaking old TV shows for the big screen? With the exception of S.W.A.T. and Get Smart, the majority of them were mondo bombs in every way! Poorly cast, horrible storylines, and uninspired cameos from original cast members (with the exception of the Lost In Space debacle - They had everyone except Billy Mumy & Jonathan Harris). Which brings me to this: 2nd Worst idea ever: Casting the majority of the surviving original cast members of Lost In Space only to NOT cast Billy Mumy as the older Will Robinson in a sequence set in the future!!
  3. Allen Kent's appearance in Princess Diaries 2. Everyone in the theatre laughed out loud when he appeared and repeated the exact line from Pretty Woman - the one in which he catches a snail that goes flying through the air in a restaurant and mentions how it, "Happens all the time!".
  4. In a way I understand why they don't necessarily use their own faces - sometimes people don't want their faces out there. Although I'm not on FB, I wouldn't use my face either if I were. As here, I'd use the default icon. Then again, I'm lazy! I certainly would never use my family members' faces for the same reason - privacy. Our office is casual and some workers did that, but policy changed when there was the potential lawsuit of someone walking on a random staple or tack.
  5. Mitchum did do a great job being the creep his character was, but when I saw it I started thinking the chase was turning into a spoof. With all the effort the kids put into ditching him, Mitchum's character just kept on popping up even when you think he couldn't possibly have found his way there. I figured his greed was stronger than anything else.
  6. May you Oom Dooby Doom your way into Heaven, Dave! I always loved doo-wop music (even though I was born long after it's initial popularity waned) and I always feel just a little bit sad to hear those original singers passing on.
  7. Gotta love HD, huh? Thanks to that and improved syndicated prints, I can see hair extensions on 60s actresses - and the hair colors don't seem to match up! I grew up watching the series and it was brilliant! I've been catching reruns on Rural-TV (aka Family Net) although I have it on DVD as well. Officially it was "Squish, squish!". Later came, "Mushie, mushie!" Jack Soo himself was a funny guy! I recently caught the tribute episode for him. It's not often you get an entire 1/2 hour dedicated to a co-star who died during production. At best you can see a 30 second tribute with a photo of them with their dates of birth and death superimposed on them. I guess that shows how much he really meant to the rest of the cast and crew.
  8. Table for two? I find that obnoxious too - plus it's the height of rudeness for the date. Wouldn't it make more sense to call or text your arrival? It's beyond trend. Schools are like this too. For the past 15 years or so, classrooms have kids split up into groups to "problem solve" together. For the peeve record, I hate it too. Too bad we can't all choose to work in soundproof rooms.
  9. This is why I like homeschooling. You leave that nonsense behind. You develop into your own person and become more individualized. I've been bullied as a kid and I remember those desperate days when your "friends" wouldn't stick up for you - because that meant they would be on the bully victim list. I'm just thankful electronic media wasn't around when I was in middle school! I just know I would have had a webpage labeled, "I hate [magicdog].com". What really peeves me is that parents raised these little monsters! Did any of them have an adult at home teaching them how to treat people? Did they have parents that taught them to bully others and treat them as pariahs if they didn't go along with them? This had to come from somewhere.
  10. I enjoy collecting vintage sewing patterns. I have far too many to count - mostly from the 50s and 60s. I even picked up a few vintage pattern catalogs too. I have often thought fashions from earlier eras are more tasteful and have more interesting details abut them than many of today's fashions. Half the fun is bringing a piece of the past to the present by using a modern fabric on an old pattern! I always try to go for looks that are timeless and could still not stick out (in a bad way) in a crowd .
  11. I read that article and the writer was soaking in serious bitters! I don't know why people act as if this is new - stories of heroes getting the girl have been told in fables and tales for centuries. Today's definition of hero changed a bit for some. To be honest, I prefer a guy who at least meets those standards (educated, working, making decent money, and is a good person) because they're increasingly hard to find! I don't blame TV so much as bridal magazines; it's a racket like none other!
  12. I'd heard that the FX for that movie caused audience members to get violently ill (apparently puking up pea soup had never been done on screen before) and induced vomiting in auditoriums. Did anything like that happen when you were there? Or in area theatres? Not long after I'd moved here, I used to enjoy going to the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino. They had their own movie theatre which was subsidized by the gambling (this was before the casinos got bigger and started installing theatres in them). Since they were independent, they showed all kinds of films (my favorite was seeing the re-release of "Spartacus" which had been restored with new footage) and best of all the snack bar was more than reasonable. Only a buck for a giant container of popcorn! Now, they're not independent anymore and most stand alone theatres disappeared with them. We still have the old drive in theatre here - and I went there for years with friends and family. To this day you get a double feature with every screen. When I first started going, they still had the original speakers from the 50s/60s! They've gone digital now, and the radio is needed to tune into your films, but the experience is still a fun one.
  13. This reminds me of a cartoon I saw in an editorial over the school uniform debate. One kid says to another "They're thinking about making us wear school uniforms." The other kid replied, "I'd hate that. Then we'd have no individuality". Then you see a group of teens all walking to class - all sporting the same look!
  14. I do remember the DeBeers ads but IIRC (and even various wedding guides/articles have mentioned this) it isn't 6 months salary - it's 3 months salary as a guideline. [trivia alert] You're right about diamond rings being pushed is relatively recent; for centuries, it was sapphires given as gifts to a lover or bride, since blue represented faithfulness and fidelity. [/trivia alert]
  15. Believe it or not, Bambi's mom's death didn't bug me as much as it was intended. Partly because my dad was an avid hunter (he went deer hunting every autumn), and partly because it didn't ring true to me. My dad told me that in NY state, one needs a special permit to hunt does, and they were few and far between. If anything, it would have been more realistic for Bambi's dad to take the bullet.
  16. I get upset with Wash's death in "Serenity". He didn't have to die! I'd read that the film was based on the outlines/initial scripts for season two of Firefly - had it occurred. I'd hate to think Wash was meant to have been killed off on the series proper as well! Come to think of it, I was also a bit miffed Mr. Universe died too - all he had in the end was his sexbot!
  17. If there's a Trader Joes in your area, they could be an option. I was able to get the best prices for jumbo eggs there. Prices did go up a bit, but still mygo to place for eggs. Dogs bark for many reasons - at strangers (defending their territory) or boredom. If the dog doesn't have any other animals at home and/or his owner is not home during prime barking hours, then it's likely the latter. That can be cured with a pet sitter/doggie daycare.
  18. The same site offers a salve for bug bites and other things that go itchy: here. There's also a page for herbal remedies for other things here. You're right, the Vinegar of the Four Thieves is more of a repellant, but a good one. I should have prefaced that. Vinegar of the Four Thieves should help repel them too.
  19. One cure that was suggested to me was this: Vinegar of the Four Thieves. To be honest, I live in a mosquito free climate so I haven't needed it, but others swear by it.
  20. Funny you should mention "Cuddly Toy". For years I dismissed it since the video segment they filmed for it on the show was this harmless song and dance between Davy and a pretty blonde girl (while the rest of the group played in the background). It wasn't until I really paid attention to the lyrics when I realized Nilsson was getting his bitch on! The song, "Dancing In The Streets" was banned by some radio stations back in the day because ( as I'd been told by those who remember when it was originally released) some execs thought "dancing" a euphemism for "riot".
  21. He was asked where would he go for heath care after it had been passed and implemented. Got that straight from the video. Now, can we get back to talking about the Fox Network?
  22. I don't recall him saying this. Do you have a link? GHScorpiosRule: If I offended you, I apologize. However, as someone who's been in the news biz (TV and print) for some time, I'm accustomed to verifiable facts, not hearsay or spurious outbursts about people on various areas of the political spectrum. Everyday I run into people who believe something is true because their cousin's sister's boyfriend's best friend's roommate said so, not because they personally witnessed it or bothered to seek out the details. If the object of the news is someone they despise (regardless of reason) then they believe it all the quicker without facts - or that only part of the story is told but the proper context is lost. I'm definitely an advocate of the "primary source" method of research and storytelling. arcadia22: YMMV. I led you to water, the rest is up to you.
  23. So sorry to hear of Lamb's death. He was a living legend and one of the last links to "Old Vegas". He seemed pretty spry in the last interviews we had with him.
  24. This made me flash back to an episode of "Laverne & Shirley" in which Laverne his having a conversation with Mrs. Babish about heartthrobs of different generations. Laverne and Shirley were throbbing over teen idol, Fabian (the episode is set circa 1959), while Babish muses how Cary Grant was the heartthrob of her generation. Laverne mentions how Grant was still a heartthrob. This leads Babish to wonder how was it she got older while Grant got cuter!
  25. I hope those texts weren't on work issued phones! Then they'll have every right to search them for inappropriate texting and you don't want to get caught up in that.
